This was by far some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I will not be returning to this shop again unless there are some serious changes made. This experience left a terrible taste in my mouth, and unfortunately, it's not just a one-time issue. I've given this place chance after chance, and it seems like every single visit, the customer service is still terrible with zero regard for the customer. All I asked for was a simple sandwich this morning, and not only did they get my order wrong, but the employee made it seem like it was somehow my fault. Then suddenly, they were "out" of what I originally wanted. At this point, I will never come back, and I definitely won't be recommending this place to anyone else. I had their steak and cheese. Easily one of my top 3 steak and cheeses. I can't wait to come back to try the Chicken Salad that was out.

We went for the MD Stuffed Ham. You can order the sandwich but we ordered a pound because 1 Sammie wasn't going to be enough. It is excellent and we've had this local specialty from several places in Charles & St Mary's Counties. This is in the top 3 places. We also got a 2 piece fried chicken basket with wedge potatoes. DELISH, fried chicken. We should have ordered more of that also, will next time. We also got a piece of Smith Island cake, another Southern MD, Fav treat. They have flavors I've never seen before. I'll come here in the future to get my Smith Island cake fix in the future, also DELISH. There is raw meat, a limited amount for sale also and we bought a pound of hot sausage to try later. Take cash or a plastic credit card. There is no ApplePay or similar, no tap to pay. There are no public restrooms, so plan ahead. After all, it's an old style country store. Visiting from out of town and wanted to get a good Maryland crab cake. After all, it's Maryland. They brag about their crabs, and we love to eat blue crabs when in season so when in Maryland, we do crabs in some form or fashion. This visit we didn't have time to go down to the water for the full-on crab feast, so a good crab cake was our goal. The relatives said to head over to Cooksey's Store if we wanted the biggest, best tasting crab cake in the area. Pulling up, the initial impression was a bit sketchy. The old-time country store is a relic for sure and been around for a while. But typically that's usually a good sign, because the bad places don't usually get the longevity. The interior is small. The staff; not the most personable, but I wasn't here for a stroke of the self esteem. I wanted crab. I was not led astray. Giant crab cake on a hamburger bun. You can add anything else you want when you get home but I prefers to taste crab, so this big ball of crabby goodness with nothing else was just the ticket. Large amount of crab meat with small amount of filler. Deep fried to perfection. Excellent value with good flavor. Hand cut potatoes on the side makes the meal complete. Worth a trip for sure. read more

Just left Cooksey after purchasing 4 of their infamous crab cake dinners and a side order of hush puppies. The employee who prepared our meal was hungry and decided to eat a few wedges while he was preparing our meals. There's no problem with grabbing a bite, however, when you use the same gloves that you just ate with and that touched your lips, to then continue to prepare meals without changing your gloves, that's a problem. My husband nicely asked him to change gloves and he caught an attitude. The food here is good, however, we will no longer patronize this establishment while the staff serving food is non-chalant and careless about food safety. read more

This is a must stop every time we are in the area. Home made salsas, pickles, cider vinegar, jarred fruits. We always purchase loaves of banana nut and lemon bread. Sandwiches, chicken by the bucket. Crafts & art from local artisans. Everyone spaced & in masks even though it's a modest country store. All my shy six year old wanted was gummy bears. They were kind enough to pull some out when the peg containing them ran out. Super friendly, hold the door for you when your hands are full. Go for a drive, bring your outgrown shoes/clothes, collection dumpsters out front. Gorgeous patch of sunflowers across the street from the side entrance. read more

Food is good, service is iffy. I like it because it's convienet and the chicken wings are great but like the other person said, ask for all one type of wing and they give you attitude. Went there on a slow morning, ordered two breakfast platters ... THE LADY WROTE EVERYTHING DOWN AND STILL GOT IT ALL WRONG. I mean ALL wrong. 2 crab cake specials, 2 chicken breast and a 12 piece wing dings was ordered and paid for. I was told it'll be 20 minutes on the chicken breast and I was okay with that. 20 minutes later, the rude slim female employee wearing gray colored scrubs named Norma, told me they had a crowd of people come in and the breast were now being dropped, it'll be another 20 min. I then just wanted the the crab cake and wing dings. We're out of the wings; but I paid for them and they were here when I purchased them. Another customer asked a question and she said WHAT, I said that's very rude! If you didn't hear him say I excuse me Sir. That's unacceptable and I hope the owners look at these reviews. Customer service will make or break you! The service is great. The people working are so upbeat and friendly. The food is delicious. The crab cake is so good and the pork chops are too. Don't forget about all the delicious deserts. The 10 layer cake is so good and fresh. I highly recommend this place. read more

This is a country store and the people who gave it bad reviews are probably expecting a restaurant. It's not. This place has great food at a reasonable price for the quality. They get very busy and you might have to wait but I have never gotten bad food or service. The people are very helpful. It is surprising how many things you can get here as it has some groceries too. I would rather eat here than some chain any day. PS. This is So Md and if you think you're real important you should go elsewhere. read more

Best crab cake sandwiches I believe I have ever eaten!!!! I live in Tampa Fl and was visiting family in VA and my sister bought one for me and my husband to share. It was the BEST! We talked about that crab cake for weeks. On a recent trip back home, I had my sister (who lives near Cooksey's) purchase me 2 crab cakes to take back to Florida. I didn't tell my husband, as I wanted to surprise him. Within 10 minutes of him picking me up, he asked if I had brought home some of those crab cakes. I told him "Yes" and he was a happy soul. Sorry to say, but Tampa does not have good crab cakes, or I haven't found the right place yet after living here for 7 years. When I do, they will be compared to Cooksey's crab cakes for sure. read more

We came to Cooksey's today because my husband loves their crab cake sandwich. That was great, but we had a problem. Wanting a drink, we looked at their soda machine. They had the prices of each size, plus the price if you just wanted ice. Like some stores, they want you to pay for the ice and/or cup, and we thought 20oz for $0.50 was an okay price. After waiting a lot longer than the expected 8 minutes, we went to pay for our food. I told the lady at the register that the cups were just ice water. She said it didn't matter, that it cost $2-something per cup. I argued with her, stating that the sign said the ice was just $0.50. She said, yes, the ice. Not the water. Are you kidding me? She then explained that they're a business and they need to make money. They don't make the ice, they have to buy it. I told her that I was happy to pay for the ice. I decided to just dump out the water and buy a bottle water instead, and the lady was shocked that I would waste their water! If they were going to charge for ice water, then they shouldn't have had ice prices listed. I don't know if she was just confused, or if this is seriously their policy. It almost seemed as though she though I took a bottled water out of the cooler and poured it into the cup. Whatever, I was upset, and my husband just decided to pay for it and get out. I wish it ended there. The potato wedges were very greasy, and the potato salad I got was sweet and bland. I took one bite and put it away. Maybe I can rescue it with some seasonings when I get home. They just lost another customer because they don't seem to care about they people that come in. read more

Poor customer service. they forgot to put some of my food in the bag, I paid 50.00 for everything and when I called there they told me in a nasty way, sorry what you want me to do it about it. Rude Business Owners. I entered today to purchase lottery tickets. After standing in line and waiting for two people in front of me, I was informed that the machine would not accept the ticket request form. The cashier handed it back and I reviewed and found everything to be filled out correctly, I questioned, "what could be wrong"? The owner told me to move out of the way to allow another customer thru. I looked at him, and said, "I thought I was a customer" and left. I have experienced this rude service many times before from these owners and will never spend another dime in this store. read more
