We got one order of lemon pepper and one order of buffalo wings with fries, and a slice of Smith Island cake. Our order was ready in no time and we were off to our room to indulge. The wings were fried perfectly, with us giving the edge to the lemon pepper. The fries were hot and fresh, just the way we like them. The cake was moist with the perfect amount of chocolate frosting sandwiched between those thin yellow cake layers. This is bait and switch at the sauce level, and I want a refund on my trust. We got 10 hot and 5 lemon pepper. The hot wings tasted like someone opened a bottle of Frank's RedHot, showed it to the chicken from across the room, and called it seasoning. The breading itself was thick but not offensively so -- more "linebacker" than "Michelin man." Heat level: medium, despite being billed as hot, and the wings had a slight greasiness that wasn't a dealbreaker, just an unwelcome plus-one. The seasoned fries showed up allegedly seasoned. The seasoning was salt. Just salt. Salt doing its one job and getting all the credit for a team effort it didn't put in. The lemon pepper wings were fine -- perfectly respectable, solidly "okay," the culinary equivalent of a shrug. We've had better lemon pepper at random beach shacks that don't even have a website. Final verdict: 3/5 wings. The lemon pepper seasoning did show up and hydrate the breading nicely -- genuine bright spot. Everything else was a wing that looked better in its headshot than in person.

Not kidding. The venue offers a welcoming outdoor area and a semi-private indoor space perfect for events. I've booked Taphouse for both corporate and personal gatherings, and it's the easiest, most reliable spot in the County for hosting by far. Beyond the food and drink, Taphouse, and especially Sunny (the owner) are one of the most community engaged businesses in Southern Maryland. They have put on countless events supporting all types of local organizations, and always work with nonprofits when they need anything. Taphouse and Sunny himself really serve as one of the best ambassadors of St. Mary's County, especially since a large portion of the customers are transient.
