Suya Chicken Wings (6pcs)
Jimmie P.

I was looking for something a little different today from the normal. Although this spot seems small you will not be disappointed with the food. The suya wing and beef suya with the jollof rice, chef's kiss. Everything was full of flavor and fresh.

Great when you are looking for a local African spot that has fufu and agusi for your teenager. My daughter loves fufu. So I am glad we found this spot and she had a food experience. They accept call in ordered. Very friendly and the inside is larger than I expected.

I love the African food from here. The food is fresh and flavorful. I love the egusi stew with fufu.

The food was not well seasoned. I ordered stewed chicken and jollof rice. Both were bland -- the chicken was white ! My husband ordered the whole grilled fish. It was dry and unseasoned. While sitting in the store we heard and could see a woman using a microwave to warm food. We ate in but had to use plastic forks and eat out of the to-go plates.

Egusi (Melon) Soup with Goat & Fufu!! I wish it had a little more sauce with the goat. But it is my fav dish there.

I absolutely love Choba's!! Now I have not been inside but have definitely had via delivery service and they never disappoint. The food is always hot and delicious. I have been a few times and this was the very first pics of the first visit. It just gives me Nigerian vibes!!! A little pricey, but worth it. I could eat it more if I could afford it lol.

I was so excited to try Choba's especially because they are the only restaurant offering African cuisine in the area. I ordered the grilled fish with jollof rice and a side of spinach. The fish was dry, it definitely was not cooked fresh. I couldn't even eat it. The spinach wasn't very tasteful to me either. My boyfriend got the chicken with jollof rice and plantain. The chicken wasn't good and the plantain was dried out and inedible. I'm guaranteed that the food was cooked hours before we even ordered. The only thing that was decent was the jollof rice. So there ya go, we spent $40 on food to only eat the rice. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I also don't like spending my money on food that should have never even been served. If you plan on gaining repeat customers, you need to ensure you are taking pride in the food you are selling. We will never return.

There are several places in Waldorf Maryland that I have yet to review. Well I knocked one of those places off the list!! I've heard, and read some positive things about the spot. Let's see what they're hittin on. Where am I: @chobasafricankitchenandbakery . Location Reviewed: 3240 Crain Hwy., Waldorf M.D. . Menu Includes: Chicken, Grilled fish, Stewed beef, Stewed goat meat, plantains, Jollof rice, peanut stew, Egusi & Stew, FuFu, rice & beans, seafood okra, & Puff Puff's (warm donut holes). . What I reviewed/rating; Their Chicken entree' (with, stew, Jollof rice, & mixed vegetables $10). STAMP the chicken & rice!! Affordable, savory, not overly spiced, with the meat falling off the bone!! The mixed vegetables were DECENT. I needed some more flavor with that. Their Stewed Beef (with white rice & stew, & mixed vegetables $12). DELICIOUS!! Again, savory meat, with the mild spiced stew...winning!! The FuFu ($3) & spinach stew ($6) was DEFINITELY DELICIOUS as well. This spot doesn't overdo any of their meals. In their case...simplicity makes for tasty food!! Lastly was their Sorrel. A hibiscus tea like drink, with ginger...$3.50. STAMP!! Refreshing, chilled, & palate cleansing!! . Customer Service: EXCELLENT!! Warm, & welcoming as if you were home!! . Online Navigation: Easy, but...there were pics of food missing, and I didn't see anything from their bakery on the menu. . Parking: Strip Mall parking, readily available. . Recommendations: Get the chicken, Jollof, and spinach...it the best deal at $10. =STAMP =DELICIOUS =DECENT =PASS =NAH #Bigschlimsreviews

Jollof Rice Plate with Chicken Plate

Service is great here! We ordered takeout and they were super friendly taking our order and explaining things we had questions about. And they packaged everything perfectly! No spills or issues at all! We ordered a few things off their menu: Egusi with beef, pounded yam, plantains, Jollof Rice, peanuts stew with chicken, goat meat pepper soup, and these donut holes/hush puppies. Out of the group of us who tried the food, the Crowd pleaser are their donut holes/hush puppies kind of thing that I can't remember what they're actually called! We also liked the goat meat per soup and peanut stew. The egusi was something that was a hit or a miss within the group. I thoroughly liked it and thought it was pretty good, but the one other person who tried it thoroughly disliked it. I will say that I am more adventurous in different flavors than the rest of this group, so it was a big step for them to try something out of their comfort zone flavor profile wise. But common ground was the rice, plantains, yam, goat meat soup, peanut stew, and favorite were the donut holes. For those trying it for the first time, keep in mind that the way the yam and plantains are prepared is not sweet. So if you're looking for a hint of sweetness, I think they have some desserts available too! I would absolutely order from here again, especially the goat meat pepper soup and the peanut stew.

Finally stopped by CHOBAS today ! How exciting; I went ahead with traditional Egusi with goat meat and pounded yams. Ambiance and customer service: Pretty chilled environment and cozy. I called to place my takeout order ahead of time. The gentlemen that took my order was super nice and told me my ordered would be ready in 10mins. Food: It was my first time trying the Egusi and pounded yams. It was very yummy and not salty. I really liked the goat meat! Very well seasoned and although the pounded yams flavor was mild, there's just something about combining them all together that made it for such a great and unique experience. Originally I wasn't thinking about purchasing anything from their bakery but my oh my, the desserts looked amazing. No way was I going to walk out without a bakery item; purchased a confetti cake with cheesecake. By the way the cake , looked delicious! Location: Parking was ample and CHOBAS is very easy to find in the plaza across from chipotle. Overall, great food! I'll def come back. #supportlocal

Chicken wings, pounded yam, and goat stew

I think i just had real Nigerian food for the first time from Choba's in Waldorf, MD and it was AMAZING! I had Nigerian's chicken wings and jollof rice before from my Nigerian sister of almost 30 years but she NEVER COOKED me anything like this! I have to rethink this relationship! The flavors were like nothing i ever had, the wings are super flavorful, tender, crispy, spicy in the back of the throat, it dissipated quickly but not before it cleared out my sinuses. The goat stew with spinach and pounded yam were super DELICIOUS, the goat was tender but not fall off the bones the spinach is super fresh not overly cooked. I'm not entirely sure if it was American spinach, the yam had no flavor but it didn't need it. I will definitely go back to Choba's!

Amazing food we had the egusi soup. Different palette profile, but gave it a 2nd taste and liked it.

First, a fair warning to visitors - if you do not know Spanish you will likely feel a bit lost and…read moreout of place. A lot of the signage was in Spanish and so was the language people spoke. I know enough Spanish to speak to a 4 year old, so I was way out of my league! I noticed upon arrival that they have some baked good, grocery goods, and apparently hot dishes given there were a few tables where people were actively eating. I just kind of strolled around for a minute looking lost. There is no one readily available to help people like me with the deer-in-headlights look. I had hoped to try an empanadas but it seemed intimidating so I strolled over to the shelves where there were various breads, pastries and cookies. I was still a bit lost because I first saw people with trays and grabbing breads but I thought they might be employees. But after wandering in another circle I noticed a lady grabbing a tray and tongs. I then saw the little sign that said to use the trays and tongs for the baked goods. I then followed the lady and managed to grab a few items. I had hoped for some cupcakes or donuts but saw neither. I did however get a cheese danish, a couple of cookies and a couple of breads. The items I got were pretty good and the bread was fairly soft. I certainly wasn't disappointed in any of the items I grabbed, I only wished there were a few other sweet items and a better system to better understand how best to navigate the store. But all things considered, the baked goods were good enough that I may very well be back to sample other items.
