Given how close this is to home, it's a nice deai spread for weekend afternoon buffet. I'll expand more when I can & what makes this so flavorful; plus the staff here is friendly. For starters, definitely plan on chicken availabilty multiple ways, this is such a strange Indian non veg boredom phenemomon; if there wasn't seafood or mutton on the menu, I wouldn't be here, but I digress. But it's more than that because the rasam, sambhar, & dal fry's here are money. I'll admit the outside looked very sketchy and I thought it was going to be a place with horrible food. But the looks do deceive. We ordered a few items and all were beyond expectations. We ordered the cut mirchi, paneer 65, garlic masala naan, butter paneer masala, chickpea masala vijayawada chicken biriyani and a few drinks. Out of all the restaurants we went to throughout this trip to Chicago (we come from Dallas) This is the BEST restaurants we ever went to, through here and Dallas! READ BELOW I am a uber eats driver and received an order from this place for 3.5 miles for $2 (base pay). I took the order because many people tip in person. When I got to the customer, she told me "sorry, I can't afford to tip, I hope the $7 delivery fee covers me". I told her that I only received $2. That's when I asked her if she placed the order through uber eats or the restaurant. She stated she ordered through the phone directly to the restaurant and they asked for her card info to have the food paid for and delivery. That's when I realized we both got scammed. She paid $7 (two dollars per mile) for delivery thinking the restaurants private delivery driver was delivering the food but instead they kept the $5 extra and subcontracted the delivery to uber eats. The food here is absolutely delicious! This spot may be a bit unassuming, but the flavors are incredible. While it does take some time for the food to be prepared (all good things are worth the wait!), it's served as soon as each dish is ready, ensuring everything is fresh. The chicken lollipop was a standout--perfectly seasoned and cooked. From the mango Lassi to the mutton biryani, butter chicken, dosa, and idli were all exceptional as well. The portion sizes are very generous--no skimping on the butter chicken, which was overflowing with tender pieces of chicken. Service can vary, but we had a good experience. It's a rare find for us! It has authentic flavors and a great service. We have enjoyed a proper Tandoori, Chicken 555, chicken chetinad, and goat biryanni. They don't understand English well as the server didn't understand questions that were asked. The place was empty and water was served in a clear bottle while no glasses were given until asked for. We ordered Masala Dosas and Chicken Pakoras. The chutneys tasted bad and the sambar was warmed up in a microwave while certain pieces were still cold. What bothered me the most was that half the Dosa was soft while only a small portion was thin and crispy. The chicken pakoras tasted like oil and were very greasy. Place was pretty busy when we got in for a lunch buffet. They also had one server managing at least a dozen tables. Maybe they were just short-staffed that day. The food spread for the lunch buffet was decent. They had 2 types of biryani rice: vegetable and chicken. This was along the normal white rice which provided good variety. They had big spiced chicken legs, which is the first I've seen around here. The butter chicken was spicier than I've tasted as well. The other dishes were similar to other places in the area. Overall, i think this place is decent and pretty average compared to the places around the area. read more

I cannot wrap my head around the negative reviews for Cool Mirchi, because I just returned home after having dinner there tonight and I'm rushing to write this review before I slip into a food coma. There was no one else in the restaurant when we got there at a little after 6pm Friday evening. But while we were going over the menu, another couple walked in. Shortly after that, there were quite a few take out orders. The service throughout our evening was excellent, and the lady serving us was not only ear to ear smiles, but she even offered to cut up my daughter's tandoori, how thoughtful is that?!? In addition to the tandoori chicken, we had the chicken chettinad, butter chicken, and 3 kinds of naan (garlic, butter, onion). The reasons for my 5-star reviews are: 1. The amazing service, 2. The taste of every single item, 3. The speed that it was delivered, 4. The quality and freshness of all items, and 5. The portions. (Seriously, the full order of tandoori chicken had 12 pieces, and both curry dishes were loaded with tender morsels of chicken.) There WILL be another visit in my near future. P.S. As we were leaving, our server mentioned that they have a massive lunch buffet on the weekends that includes pretty much all the menu all-stars. read more

Like to keep it honest hence the 3 stars. First of all place needs to be clean and can`t have flies flying around in the dinning area. South Indian food was okay but lacked the authentic flavors. We also ordered Punjabi food but I am sorry to say was terrible. We actually ended up not eating any of it. Now the only reason this gets a 3 star is because of the staff that is great. They are courteous and ready to rectify any mistakes or short comings to the extend they can. This was our first time ordering from Cool Mirchi. It's tucked away in a corner strip mall near a bowling alley. My order was a pickup but the restaurant had plenty of seating and seemed comfortable and clean. We ordered Butter Chicken, Aloo Gobi and Paneer Masala. They were very nice and the food was ready when they said it would be. The portions were generous. I'm not sure I'm qualified to truly judge the authenticity of indian food but this was delicious. The Aloo Gobi was a bit spicy for some, so if you don't like that, mention it and I'm sure they can make milder. The butter chicken was wonderful. They included plenty of rice too. Everything cost about $34 and we had plenty of leftovers for a few more meals. I liked it. I'll go back. read more

This is was one of my worst experiences at cool mirchi. We ordered Manchurian and chili baby corn. The gobi manchurian was bland and the chili baby corn was stale. The server brought our naan was cold and the server tried to tell us that the naan was made before our curry so it became freezing cold. It was probably frozen and they forgot to microwave it. Stay away!! We went there after seeing Yelp reviews and thought would try it. We ordered chicken lollipops and chicken 65 in appetizer which looked decent. Chicken 65 didn't taste like actual chicken 65 and barely had any spices or even salt! I took a bite of the chicken lollipop and felt it smelled funky. Looked at the lollipop only to find it wasn't cooked entirely and was raw! The bone was red and had blood on it! Totally appalled we called the server and showed him the lollipop! Guess what he said - "oh you wanted well done, you should have said that earlier!!" Which place anywhere in US serves raw chicken or which place while ordering chicken you say you want it well done! We had already placed main course order, the butter chicken was super stale and the mutton friend biryani was just rice mixed with mutton total flavorless and was served cold!! They didn't bother to serve us any better, service was super slow (or was slow for us since the other customers who came in much after us were served before us), saw them packing leftovers for others just got us the boxes to pack ourselves. We trashed the entire food because we had forgotten to specify to make the food was "well done" so didn't know if it was all cooked or raw! Not reviewing restaurant but the staff. My grandma is in a nursing facility next door to this restaurant. I drove from city to bring her lunch and while in a rush forgot raita/yogurt at home. Needless to say I googled Indian restaurant and luckily found one right next door. I walked into a fully packed restaurant and was a bit embarrassed to just ask for yogurt. Well I walked up and explained my situation; knowing most Indian restaurant wouldn't lose an opportunity to make quick $5 for a small container of yogurt. But the staff here happily offered my one missing ingredient for grannies lunch. I insisted they take some money but he refused. Keep up the good work! My girl M. and I were on our way to a comedy show in the suburbs, and we had time to kill. So we figured we'd get Indian food before going to the club. I picked out this place from Yelp because it had the best reviews in the area. Fast forward to a few hours later as I'm writing this review in my head while waiting for the comedy club waitress to bring us overpriced burgers and nachos... because at Cool Mirchi WE NEVER EVEN MADE IT TO THE F'ING MEAL. When we get there, things look good. Easy parking. The place smells great. Semi-crowded with Indian families, and it's always a good sign for a restaurant when people who are native to that cuisine choose to dine there. So, we get seated, handed menus and water, and we're psyched. A few minutes later the waiter comes to take our order, and we already know what we want. No problem, order placed. We've now been here 5 minutes, maybe less. Now the place is getting a little busier... in fact, soon it's nearly packed. It's been about 10 minutes now. We start noticing little things: the pictures on the wall are all slightly crooked. The table and fixtures are smeared with grease. A bunch of loose wires sticking out of the wall, wrapped in masking tape, and painted over. A random paint can is just sitting against a wall in the dining room. The whole place is just... dingy. But, no big deal, we're hungry enough to not care. Another 10 minutes go by. The waiter passes our table, bringing appetizers to people that arrived after us. We give him an inquiring look, and he says "two minutes." M. is slightly annoyed that another table is getting food, but I reason that we didn't order appetizers so it's not a problem. Two more minutes. We're so hungry! Can't wait. Ten more minutes go by. It dawns on us that there is only one waiter. On a Saturday night. In a packed restaurant. Although it's not his fault, this is just poor planning. So, M. gets up and walks to the front counter to politely ask what's up. "Two minutes," she's told simply. She sits down. It's been half an hour, we're starving, and at this point we're assessing how much time we can spend on the actual meal in order to to get to the show on time. At any other spot we'd be halfway through our Chana Masala by now. Five minutes later, dude walks by again. "Two minutes," he says, bringing appetizers to yet another table. Clearly time operates differently in this strange, dingy dimension. M. says, "let's give them 10 more minutes," figuring we can leave at that point and grab a slice of pizza somewhere before the show. Ten more minutes go by. Then 11, 12, 13... The dude is nowhere to be found, a baby is crying, and we are considering mauling the other tables for their appetizers like it's 28 Days Later. Finally we get up and walk out. No attempt is made to stop us, or apologize, or even acknowledge that we were there for 48 minutes without being given so much as a pice of nan to gnaw on. I know that things happen. Maybe a waiter called in sick. Maybe they had a new cook and that was his first day. Maybe there was an unforeseen chutney shortage and the owner had to run to Jewel-Osco to get some. Even if all of those things were true, we should have been treated like the paying customers we were. We should have been given some kind of explanation, apology, free drink, some bread, ANYTHING more than just some idiotic "two minutes" mantra meaninglessly repeated to us. Instead, we lost about an hour of our lives (including the 10 minutes it's taken to write this silly review) with nothing to show for it. I'll never go back to this place and I urge anyone reading this to avoid trying it as well- unless you are the ONLY customers, in which case you may be able to order, be served, eat, and leave before you notice the looming crapiness around you. And oh yeah, those comedy club nachos were so, so, so, good. read more

After a two year gap returned for their Sunday Buffett ($14.99, Kids $7.99 + taxes). Arrive early, before 12:30pm for sure to get a prompt seating and an access to the first batch of food. I am a non-veg Foodie, and was very clear on my buffet strategy. No fillers like Vada, Pau Bhaji, Dosa, Veg pakoda etc. Headed straight for Fish Grill, Malai Kebab and Tandoori. Fish was spicy (good) but Malai Kebab wins hands down. Next serving included Ankapur Mutton, Andhra Chicken some great chutney, Salad and Naan/Poori (both is short supply). How can you miss the biryani... Natukodi and regular (had lil of both), white rice and some fish curry (okish) and Mutton again ( can't help it was the best dish). Lastly had double ka meetha (best dessert), a gulabjamun, and a bite of a ghee sweet( too heavy). My mouth was all sweet by now and had to resort to a last spoon of Mutton to get the spin back. Of all the Indian joints in my area Cool Mirchi has the highest average review, so I decided to start there first with some carry out. We (me and Tonia) really liked our food. We ordered a few items. The Mutter paneer, which was awesome. The spinach DAL was good and the Nan was very tasty. I was a little surprised that the entres do not come with rice, so be ready to order some (not a big deal, just saying). One thing to note is that this place is a dump on the inside. I don't think I could eat in there and I'm a dude. This place is strictly carry out. Also, the food is super spicy, so you may want to have them tone it down. We have been here mostly for the lunch buffets over the weekends and occasionally we have done carry out during weekdays. The buffet has a good variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The only criticism I have is the desserts are overly sweet for my liking. If they could tone it down a bit that would be awesome. The food is tasty which makes me want to go back almost every other weekend. For takeout our fav is the chicken chettinad with naan. Authentic Kerala taste. So all the malayalees craving for a good chicken curry plz try it out. Cool Mirchi is back, kicking ass and taking names! We went back there today for lunch and were so happy to see the newly remodeled kitchen and updated decor. They've always had 5 star food, but a few months ago, our lunch experience was anything but 5 stars. The quality of their food is back to what it was when it first opened and that is a good thing. Now I know why the Daily Herald gave them such a phenomenal review years ago. Cool Mirchi's waitstaff and managers are exceptional as well, as they definitely add to the wonderful Indian dining experience. I knew that Cool Mirchi would make a comeback and I'm so glad that they did! I never lost faith that the owners of Cool Mirchi would perhaps read my previous review or listen to some of their other loyal customers and make a change for the better. Knowing that Cool Mirchi decided to listen to their customers' concerns deserves much more than the 5 stars I've given today! I'm so tired of Indian food that is mild and bland, fortunately at Cool Mirchi that is one problem I wont have! Turn up the heat and enjoy the spice in all its glory. If you think Jalapenos on your nachos are "too hot" then you better find another establishment. I went on a weekday for the Mini Buffet, although the choices were few all were top notch, some mango ice cream and ice cubes in the water would have made this the perfect mini lunch. So the wife and I checked it out after numerous recommendations. A few thoughts. Horrible service I dont blame the guy but its only one guy, apparently they dont know a naan from a Kulcha either. if you are going to link to a website on Yelp please keep it up to date, yelp said no alcohol website says they serve beers disapointing. Wife wanted Dosa as per the website, no dosa at the restaurant. We didnt want Punjabi we wanted Hyderabadi curries, only one or two on menu for veg, rest was sub par punjabi.
