I go to this farmer's market because it is near me. It is not as large as some, but it has some good stuff. And the prices are better than the stores for some things and comparable or slightly more for others...but you are not going to beat the flavor of the fresh fruit and veg straight from the farm. There are several produce stands with wonderful heirloom tomatoes, sweet corn, beets, cabbage and whatever else is fresh from the garden. Also, for the same price as a tiny package of herbs you can get at the grocery store you can get a gigantic bunch of basil, parsley, or cilantro that is 10 times more aromatic than the stuff in the grocery store. Clear Flour Bakery has a stand selling fresh bread. There is a table selling local beef steaks. I bought some lavender for cooking from one of the stands, selling honey, which also sold lavender lemonade to quench your shopping thirst. If you live nearby, you must check it out. Too bad it was hotter than the blazes. 94 degrees and huuumid! While buying picked over fruits and vegetables that have been sitting out in the sun for hours is a less than ideal situation, I wanted the experience of strolling the Coolidge Corner Farmers Market despite being on a more than busy Thursday day. Luckily, it was a pleasant retreat and did not disappoint. First stop, was a wonderful photography stand by Mimi Katz. I must have spent the majority of my time there, admiring her photographs and buying a few of my most favorite. Definitely worth a look! Of course there are plenty of opportunities to buy your typical garden fare, but I passed with the exception of a pint of raspberries (that were smooshed and made into warm jam by the time I brought them home. Oh well.) Next stop, I knew I was in trouble when I saw Clear Flour Bakery. Too good to be true, but instead opted for the carbs offered at the Cook's Farm stand. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie callin' my name! Got a Zucchini Bread, too. Delicious! Went over and picked up a fresh jar of Black Raspberry Jam from the Warren Farm & Sugarhouse stand, and a package of Maple Molly's Peanut Butter 'N Maple Dog Cookies! Sounds good enough even for me to eat! This is all I dared to venture this Thursday, but I'm sure the other stands had plenty to offer as well. And yes, there are meat and eggs and fish to be had at other stands, but who feels like carrying around uncooked meat in that kind of weather!? Cheese wheels, too. When I was there, I didn't see the lavender lemonade, but there was an ice cream truck doling out the scoops. Worth a trip, but can't beat Trader Joe's, if you wanna beat the heat. read more

To my mind, this is the best farmers' market in the greater Boston area. Copley may have flowers and chocolate syrup, but this market has MEAT! And recently, FISH! And cheese and eggs! In addition to the 10 or so vegetable stands with plentiful seasonal produce from beets to berries, tomatoes to potatoes, squash to... well, you get the idea. These eggs cost less than at the supermarket, and when you're done getting produce, you can pick up a fresh loaf from the Clear Flour bakery stand and have some amazing ice cream from a popular trailer. I have a passport in case I ever get invited out of the country but until then...when I'm at a farmer's market like this I imagine I'm someplace far far away. You know how on vacation everything seems better ? Well....everything here does taste and look and smell better..................perhaps because you get to meet the people that grow or bake or create whatever they are selling. The produce,flowers,small farm made cheeses and baked goods are top quality and sooooo fresh. Like all vacations it must end until next Thursday afternoon. My first yelp review and its of a place that will only be available for one more week... As a whole the farmer's market is well priced, has friendly vendors, and is easy to walk around and browse. What puts this in 5 star category for me, though, is Cyndi the fish lady. Go early, as she tends to run out well before the rest of the stands close down. Alternatively, you can email her before Thursday to make sure she brings what you want. The fish is always very fresh and very well priced. Cyndi is very friendly and would talk in detail about your cooking plans if it weren't for the line that is ever present at her booth. The other stand I never miss is the Clear Flour Bakery tent. One piece of advice, buy two of whatever you get because I haven't made it home yet without eating at least half of one. As for the rest of the stuff, it seems like a decent seasonal variety at reasonable prices. I have yet to try anything from the beef or poultry vendors but if its half as good as the fish I'm in for a very delicious dinner. I've only lived in the area a month and a half, but a Thursday farmer's market dinner is quickly going to become a weekly tradition. read more

Cute and charming...much like Coolidge Corner itself. It's pretty small but there are certainly quite a few choices. There are stands with vegetables/fruits, meat, bread, herbs and plants, and cheese and eggs. Everything does look fresh and lovely out in the summer sun and the vegetables generally look and feel healthier and fresher then in the store. As far as price comparison goes, the prices aren't super competitive in comparison to the big chains, if anything only slightly lower or equal to the regular produce. They are however, definitely cheaper then the organic products at the store so really this is like getting organic produce for cheaper. Nice. I've really been meaning to try the farm-fresh eggs which are supposedly much better in taste then the store bought ones but alas they are always sold out!. Which brings me to my huge peeve about this place. It's on a weekday number one and though yes it closes around 6-7PM all the good stuff is so gone by the time I get there! It's really frustrating! I may end up taking a day off from work just so I can get the freshest and best selection. Make sure to bring cash as well. I think that's pretty much all they take as payment. read more

Behind the movie theater is a teeny oasis of goodies. Fresh veggies a plenty. Today I got tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, and basil - perfect selection right before going home to make dinner. The prices are totally reasonable, and I really enjoy the idea of buying local rather than giving my money to shaws, or TJs (no matter how much I adore TJs) it just feels right to hand money to the person who grew the stuff. I used to live out in Central Mass, so a lot of the farms were familiar to me, I'm sure I had met some of the people too, just hard to jog the memory. Capri Westfield Farm sells AMAZING goat cheese, and you can walk right over to Clear Flour's stand and get some breads to go with it. I got my veggies from Kimballs today - though the tomatoes looked too good to be organic, I went with them anyways. I was surprised and excited to see they were selling Beef and Turkey and Fish - though on a hot day like today I wouldn't buy any off a truck, but that could just be me. All in all, I fell into a trance, I just wanted one of everything by the time we were leaving. I suggest going earlier, cause the selection seems to fall quickly - it was packed this afternoon too. read more

Not quite as good as the Copley market, and not very working-world friendly (once a week until the sun goes down, and by the time I get there at like 5:30, a lot of the good stuff is already gone), but I still look forward to its return each year. People are friendly and are passionate about their stuff, and there's a good variety of items, from ice cream to baked goods to fruits and veggies to meats and beyond. I'm all about supporting local food producers and organic/natural living when I can be, and this market makes it easy to live this way. Kudos, Coolidge Farmers Market. read more

I do all my shopping here in the summer. I think the only thing I can't get at the market is OJ. The diversity is amazing. There are vendors for everything: beef, fish, cheese, eggs, and all the fruits and veges you can imagine. They are good at labeling what's organic and what's been sprayed. And one of the regular farms is certified organic. The diversity of greens they grow is out of this world! read more
