Decent farmers market in Davis Square right behind the Starbucks/Planned Parenthood/Chipotle plaza. Don't count on finding parking since the market takes up 1/2 of a public lot. Take the T/bus/Uber if you can. This farmer's market is about the same size as the Central Sq. one. In addition to vendors selling fruit/veggies, you'll find chicken/eggs, bread, honey, flowers, fish/lobster, pasta, and ice cream. EBT/SNAP accepted. I'm not sure if this is one of the MA markets that doubles your EBT $ up to $20 total, so check with a market manager or message them on facebook if this applies to you. Consider this the "quality over quantity" update. Earlier today, I purchased a head of romaine so leafy green and immensely blossomed, I swore I'd find a baby inside. And I did. He spoke English and told me that his name was Rutherford Jameson Aurelius, and that he'd bounced around from farm to farm, spending time with the Cabbage Patch Kids and getting into "nibble play" with Hazel from Watership Down. He continued to speak, but by this point a crowd had gathered and I still had radishes to buy. So I took my massive $2.50 head of romaine, bought a plump bunch of radishes, and went on my merry way. My mom helped set this up back in the early 70s and i used to go with her pretty much twice a week in the late 80s/early 90s when i was little. It's not a huge farmer's market by any means, but the people there were always wicked friendly (one of the people that runs the market, "Oats", offered me a summer job working on his farm) and the produce is as fresh as it's gonnaa get in a city environment. Seriously, they pick the stuff that morning and drive it into Davis Sq. Yeah, it's more $$$ than going to star market or something like that, but if you're looking for REALLY fresh produce, this is the place to go. I love love love this farmers market. I rarely give out 5 stars and I know it's weird to give it to a market over some awesome restaurant, but I guess I'm weird like that! I love the farmers here. Some highlights you don't want to miss: First grab some herbs and lavender from The Herb Lyceum at Gilson's and perhaps some local honey. Then head over to the stand that sells primary asian greens and grab yourself something new for a side dish high in iron. For meat eaters, trek over to stillman meats and check out what's on special. If it's in your price range (it can be a little pricey) consider picking up some meat for a romantic dinner in. And if romance is what you want, and he's there that week, stop by the oyster vendor from some of his amazing bivalves. (A little hint: Around Thanksgiving he takes large orders at a reduced price per pound for oyster dressing). Now you're at my FAVORITE and last stop -- Kimball's (and not the massive one I hear is known for it's ice cream) stand. Run by a family, I love the dynamic of this group. They remember amazing details about their customers and will even sometimes put aside small orders for their regulars who they know will want product X. The owner is always awesome about telling me what I should buy this week and giving out a few of his wife's recipes. You must try their tomatoes, berries and cucumbers...I know, cucumbers?! But seriously, out of this world. I also love to try a different tomato each week and see how long I can go without repeating. Overall, while a small market, one not to be missed! read more

The Davis Square farmers market makes me feel human. I love it. I usually buy the things that are in season like tomatoes (YUM), blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, peaches, nectarines, corn, all the different types of lettuces they have. I also buy fresh cuts of beef (the tenderloin from the meat stand is the best steak I have ever eaten), the fish is good too, as are the fresh eggs. Oh! and last time I got a elderflower syrup that came with a recipe for elderflower syrup in a gin and tonic with cucumber. I never even liked gin before and it's now my favorite thing. I never say this so appreciate: amazeballs! I will one day also buy kale, eggplant, zucchini and beets. When I am sure that I won't let them go to waste. From time to (cough! every time), I buy the strawberry rhubarb pie from the bakery! read more

This is the only farmers market i have access to because i have no car. It's small, but has a friendly group of vendors. Would love to see a little more variety and also a change of schedule. Wednesdays from noon until dark is weak, and now that the clocks have changed, the vendors close up shop around 4:30 pm. read more

One of the better farmer's markets in the area - several vendors with large selections of vegetables, plus locally made cheese, meat and baked goods. There's often a decent amount of variety between the produce vendors - some specialize in greens; others have more fruit. Last fall there was an oyster guy - I'm hoping he turns up again this year! The downsides - it's crowded, even at mid-afternoon. There's often canvassers there, and they're extremely annoying, even if they are generally collecting for good causes. On the smaller side of farmer's markets, but prices, quality and variety are good. This is the ONLY farmer's market in Boston that I have been able to find english peas (aka sugar snap peas) at - which is the main thing I go in search of at Farmer's Markets. Maybe I have just been incredibly unlucky every other time I have looked for them elsewhere, but to me, it was worth noting they DID have them here. I wish they had longer hours and/or additional days. But for location, parking availability, and proximately to the T without being in the middle of the square - it is pretty great! read more

The selection is determined by locality. I know that comes as a shock to those of you who like you fresh strawberries in December. Hence you are driven by the seasons and the climate, so what you have now is some rocking blueberries, spinach, and corn so sweet you can eat it raw off the cob. And local food is the best food (for you and the environment), don't obsess on "organic" (its basically a soil classification regulation that was passed by USDA to protect dirty old hippies from competition). The goat cheese dude has great stuff as well. The chocolate stand is worth a visit as well. Plus my dogs get petted a lot at the farmers market. If they like it, who am I to say otherwise. ps- Beware of the baby stoller traffic jams. For God's sake people learn to use rubbers. read more

I've been going to this Farmer's Market all season and I love it. Every Wednesday from Noon to 6pm the parking lot behind CVS is turned into a shopping experience. Local vendors include Enterprise and Kimball Farms which have organic vegetables and fruits. Taza Chocolate made here in Somerville, local cheese makers, Hi Rise Bakery from Cambridge, and lamb and beef from area farms. It was so much fun bringing our new born for the first time only 22 days old to the market the other day . I have been to bigger farmer's markets before but this one is pretty decent. I wish they had more variety, I've been to Farmer's Markets in other states that had pickles, jams, mustards, spices, and musicians and artists as well. Perhaps in future years our market will grow with us. With a farmer's market each day of the week in the Boston area, make sure you visit others, but don't miss this one either. read more

Too small for my food loving taste buds. I guess Davis Square is small though, I was just so excited and then there were only a few tables to be had...and a lot of those tables had a lot of the same produce options and their prices were not as great as I thought they would be... BUT I got some corn there that was some of the best corn I've ever had. I know, corn is something kind of strange to get excited about, but there is nothing quite like fresh corn on the cob, and the corn I bought here was so much cheaper than in stores and it tasted so so good! That being said I wish it lasted later in the day, but for being this close to my house, it is a decent farmers market, I just wish for a little more produce diversity once it starts up again! read more

The free samples are tasty. This is always important. Produce and other foodstuffs and merchandise are a bit on the pricier end, but the vibe of the market is great. Everyone walks around with their canvas bags as they peruse and purchase the farmers' foods and merchants' wares. We love the fact that there is a farmer's market within walking distance to us (about 25 min). I find that they have decent choices and I have never been disappointed by any of our purchases. We walk there with our dog and it's always packed! We have purchased cheese, bread, fruit,and veggies, and meat. read more

I've been coming here weekly since 2001 and I love this market. Almost all the vendors are both really friendly and really helpful. Most of the produce is great, and it's generally literally been picked fresh that very morning (e.g., the last time they had corn this past autumn, the husks still had frost on them from that morning's frost when I bought them). I've been shaping my growing-season meals around what I find each week here since 2001, and this market hasn't let me down yet. I think it helps a lot to come regularly, as one learns what place has the best of each type of produce (or perhaps more accurately, the one each person personally likes the best) and gets to know the vendors a bit. Vendors have always answered my questions about produce, from what the difference is between different types of apples to how to cook a fresh chestnut to what to do with an uncommon-in-Boston-markets Asian green I've not used before. Also, please try to remember that though the prices may be roughly what you'd buy in a national chain for some items, that covers the cost of staff (not just for the farm but for staffing the stalls) and many other things, and buying direct from a vendor (here or anywhere else) always, always means that more money will go directly to them and their business than if you buy the item from a store. It's true that if the vendors don't have much of something that week (or ever, depending on the item), it does tend to sell out pretty quickly, sometimes even by 1 p.m., as many people stop here on their lunch breaks. So if you can get here pretty quickly, it's wise to do so. Please note that despite the hours stated at the top of the page and in the first review, they are only open until 6 p.m. until Daylight Savings Time ends. After that (for most or all of November, depending on the date DST ends), they close at 5 p.m. The last day is always the day before Thanksgiving, a date which also varies depending on when Thanksgiving falls (though there usually aren't too many vendors coming by that date; mid-June through October always have more vendors than the beginning and end of the market). [Related sidenote: I am in Enterprise's winter CSA (the winter one runs December through May; they also have a summer one, or you can sign up to receive a box year-round); they are one of the summertime vendors here, as Jared O., another CSA member, noted. This is my second year in it (and is its second year as well) and I love it. I'd highly recommend it to anyone else looking for ethically sourced, mostly-organic (sometimes all, but more often all but one or two items) produce. The year before it started, I used Boston Organics. I know many people that love them, and back at the time I used it, I even recommended it to others, some of whom still use it. The difference is that Boston Organics is a wholesale organic supplier, so for example, the avocados I got in my Boston Organics box came from Mexico, and I have no idea what size the farm was, just that they were organically grown. Enterprise sources their produce from other small East Coast farms. I still get avocados in my box sometimes, and they are still organically grown, but now they are from Florida instead of Mexico, from a grower who'd lost his MA market after NAFTA flooded the US market with cheap (and mostly non-organic) Mexican Haas avocados, and who's thrilled to be shipping avocados to MA again.] read more

Ok so the goat cheese with tomato and basil is quite delicious and the heirloom tomatoes are pricey, yet worth it. I like the Davis Square Farmers Market vibe - everyone seems happy and bustles around with their canvas/Shaws/recyclable grocery bags. The produce is more expensive than I'd like, but buying fresh, local produce almost makes up for it. I look forward to going every week even if I sometimes wish it were a little big bigger and a little bit rowdier. read more

While there's some overlap between the vendors at the Davis Square Farmers' Market and the more-convenient-to-me ones in Central and Charles Squares, I end up making the trek out here on Wednesdays when I can. My top reason? Goat cheese. Not just any goat cheese, but chevre flavored with things like crystalized ginger or crushed black pepper or lemon and lavender. Or goat cheese marinated in oil with "mediterranean" flavors (delicious). Or goat cheese truffles, which I've yet to try, but have been eying. Mmmm. Besides tangy goaty goodness though, there's an array of other goodies including a great selection of veggie stands (better than most of the other area markets) currently selling lettuces, radishes, strawberries, herbs and plants, stands from Hi-Rise and Breadsong bakeries, Taza chocolate, a local, natural beef vendor, mozzarella, homemade soaps, a stand selling herbal teas and herbed honeys, another selling herb plants themselves, and probably more that I'm forgetting. They conveniently list all the products currently available on a board at the entrance, so you can know what to look for. For the best selection, as with any farmers market, go early, but I still tend to find a decent amount left at 5pm. read more

Being about a block from my house, I don't mind the small size. The bread and goat cheese I got this past week were quite good. The only real issue is that it's on Wednesdays, starting at noon and going to about 6pm (I think). This makes it hard to get to if you work during the days. read more

I love the vendors here. Everyone that runs a stand is unfailingly polite and helpful. They answer my questions (thanks for being patient with a long time vegetarian River Rock Farms), give our free samples (mmmmm, cheese) and just generally make it a pleasant experience. One of the vendors even has fresh eggs, if you can get there early. It may be smallish, but I always grab good stuff. Sure, sometimes I have something specific in mind, but the whole point is to grab what's in season, so that's what I do. I'm lucky because I work close by and can head there around the time they open to get my weekly dose of fruit and vegetables, but it does close a bit early for those of you looking to stop by after work. Oh, and I don't know what happened to the goat cheese guy, but I want him back. That local goat cheese was great (You can still pick it up at Pemberton Farms). read more
