There's a large dog side (to the left upon entry) and a small dog side (to the right). Both areas are properly fenced and have benches and communal water bowls. I think there's also poop bag dispensers on each side, too. We like that the benches are dispersed throughout the area so you can sit wherever the shade is from the plentiful trees throughout the park. For the most part, the other park-goers adequately supervise and pick up after their dogs. There's plenty of room for several dogs to run around at once without feeling crowded. It's pretty close to Long Beach Blvd, so you'll hear the occasional honking or bus driving by, but overall it's pretty quiet and peaceful (other than dog barking). We also love that there's a sidewalk from the dog park and parking lot that leads east to Scherer Park and duck pond, so if your pup still has some energy after exploring off-leash, you can take them on a (leashed!) short walk up to the pond.

And we do have a go-to dog park for occasions like this, but given an all-day free Saturday, I thought about checking out a new place. And that's how we found this spot. It is what most Yelpers say what it is: small. Prime (my fur baby) is more used to one of those large dirt and grass kinda areas. He enjoyed it anyway since he met new fur-friends and got to play with them for a bit. It worked out even better since my cousin met us there to bring his fur baby to a dog park for the very first time. This was a good first run for him - I figure it a good idea start him out in a small area to see how how reacts with other dogs and mostly so he doesn't get too overwhelmed. From the looks of it, it's safe to say that enjoyed his very first dog park run. Doggy bags and water fountains are provided for both pups and hoomans alike. There are also benches available. Parking is available, both private and street. It is very well maintained, but as small as it is, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Alas, as nice and clean as it is, we probably won't be back. It just isn't big enough for my pup to run around. However! If you and your pup are more into just chillin', then this is the place.

This is a new, very small dog park hidden in a cute north LB neighborhood. I've only brought my…read moredogs here twice, but neither times have there been other dogs around for them to socialize with. There isn't much to it, but its a clean open space for them to sniff around that's not our backyard. The park has been well stocked with poop bags, and there is a clean water fountain for humas and dogs right outside the gate. There is absolutely no shade, which is a bummer, and there is only one bench to sit on. If you come on a sunny day, prepare to be attacked by sunrays! There are also no divisions to separate between play areas for bigger and smaller dogs. So, beware if your dogs are afraid of, or aggressive toward certain sizes. Because the park is close to home, I'll continue bringing my dogs, but I HOPE that someday soon they will find other dogs to keep them interested in coming back!

Aside from the nap factor there is a baseball field, basketball court, playground and a spot to play horseshoes. The drawback of being next to the freeway is you can hear the traffic whizzing by. But that's nothing that a little music can't fix.

Scherer Park is a nice neighborhood spot in Long Beach. The park has big shady trees, plenty of grass to hang out on, walking paths, and a playground. There are also courts if you're into tennis or basketball. It's a solid place to relax, walk the dog, or just watch the ducks waddle around.
