    When we first got in!
    Mackenzie A.

I decided to take my little dog here today so he could have a fun change of scenery and have the freedom to run around this giant area without a leash! Also, I have been wanting to come here for awhile since it is so close to my house! Although my dog has been to a dog park before, I have never personally taken him, and I was a bit nervous because he can be iffy around other dogs. My only issue with this place was actually getting there! It took me awhile to actually find it (which is totally my fault!) but the entrance was super weird - it almost looked one-way, but with only an exit, making it feel like I was entering through an exit. However, this place was essentially empty, so it was not a problem! The dog park itself is a big open area, the ground being a mix of dirt on wood chips. There are several benches throughout the whole place for people to sit. Also, there are plenty of trash cans, pooper scoopers, and doggy bags (though I did not check if they were actually stocked) - but regardless, the park did provide the means to pick up after your dog. There is a smaller enclosure inside the dog park, which I am assuming is for smaller dogs. There was only 1 other dog at the park while I was there, but my dog has pretty bad social skills, and he would growl whenever the other friendly dog would come over to say hi. Because of this, I brought him into the smaller enclosure, which was empty, so I felt more comfortable with him off the leash. I'm glad that I finally checked this place out! I can assume that it would be more crowded during the early mornings, nights, or weekends, but when I went (Thursday at 1pm), it was virtually empty, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your dog's personality. I definitely want to come back here so that my dog can learn to be friendlier around other dogs, and get some good exercise. Thanks Wrigley!

No seating in the minimal shade. No trash can.

My normal dog park was closed for the day so I thought I would give this place a try. Upon getting there I learned: 1. Street parking only. I take 4 dogs to the park. I had to wrangle them in the street where you cannot see cars coming around the curve the park is located on. 2. One metal bench in the sun in the small dog park side. One broken plastic chair. 3. No trash can in small side. 4. I don't know about the large side but the small side was mostly dirt (and not packed down but more like softness of sand) mixed with minimal wood chips. 5. No bathroom. I know not a biggie but at my normal park it is nice because we can stay hours. I am woman, what can I say, I need a bathroom. And the worst thing. 6. My dogs escaped under the fence door! There is a large gap (on the bottom of the door) in the small dog entrance by the street. On both doors. My large (tall) chihuahua got through the gap and the tag along boston was right behind him. Thankfully they were only working their way under the second door when I spotted them. Thank gosh the newest and smallest hasn't realized he could get out. Not secure place for those who like to escape or explore everywhere. I will not be back. I won't chance a burned butt and lost dog.

Sundays are great at Wrigley Heights Dog Park :)

This is the BEST dog park, in Long Beach! My dog goes NUTTY, with excitement every time that we pull up! I come here just about every morning even on the weekends!

This place is super close to home, and it's huge. I guess it's great that people keep writing bad reviews about this place, so there aren't too many dogs. I've been coming here several times a week since January and have never had any problems with other dogs or owners. The park has woodchips and I'm cool with that. Dust your dog off and it's all good. Plus it makes poop scooping way easier. My dog and I play fetch and he loves it. I've only given this park four stars because there aren't enough trash bins and the plastic poop bags keep running out -- which is probably why people aren't picking up after their dogs. That's more the dog owners' faults than the park's, right? Bring your own bags (duh)

Huge but often empty. The wood chips make it hard for the dogs to really get around comfortably.

And we do have a go-to dog park for occasions like this, but given an all-day free Saturday, I thought about checking out a new place. And that's how we found this spot. It is what most Yelpers say what it is: small. Prime (my fur baby) is more used to one of those large dirt and grass kinda areas. He enjoyed it anyway since he met new fur-friends and got to play with them for a bit. It worked out even better since my cousin met us there to bring his fur baby to a dog park for the very first time. This was a good first run for him - I figure it a good idea start him out in a small area to see how how reacts with other dogs and mostly so he doesn't get too overwhelmed. From the looks of it, it's safe to say that enjoyed his very first dog park run. Doggy bags and water fountains are provided for both pups and hoomans alike. There are also benches available. Parking is available, both private and street. It is very well maintained, but as small as it is, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Alas, as nice and clean as it is, we probably won't be back. It just isn't big enough for my pup to run around. However! If you and your pup are more into just chillin', then this is the place.

There's a large dog side (to the left upon entry) and a small dog side (to the right). Both areas are properly fenced and have benches and communal water bowls. I think there's also poop bag dispensers on each side, too. We like that the benches are dispersed throughout the area so you can sit wherever the shade is from the plentiful trees throughout the park. For the most part, the other park-goers adequately supervise and pick up after their dogs. There's plenty of room for several dogs to run around at once without feeling crowded. It's pretty close to Long Beach Blvd, so you'll hear the occasional honking or bus driving by, but overall it's pretty quiet and peaceful (other than dog barking). We also love that there's a sidewalk from the dog park and parking lot that leads east to Scherer Park and duck pond, so if your pup still has some energy after exploring off-leash, you can take them on a (leashed!) short walk up to the pond.

The added charges feel excessive, especially when availability could simply be declined if they are fully booked for boarding that day. (Like other facilities) Pickup and drop-off window times are very limited, particularly on weekends with verrry little flexibility. Communication can also be frustrating, as phone calls often go unanswered, and reminders about pickup times can feel overly aggressive. While the facility is aesthetically impressive, the overall cost and rigid policies, staff may not justify the value for many pet owners.

Original 4 Star Review: This dog park is tucked away in a neighborhood and has lots of big trees which creates awesome shade during a sunny day. There is a big dog park and small dog park separated by a fence. There is grass mixed in with dirt but it's a nice big area for dogs to run around and have fun. The water is outside the park fence so that's a bummer but not deal breaker. There is plenty of poo on the ground but it's mainly around the fence line so just watch your step. I'm pretty disgusted by the other owner that showed up to the small park (I'm in the big park). She literally dropped her dog over the fence and sat in her car for 15 mins talking on the phone. During this time her dog had pooped multiple times. She eventually went in but didn't pick it up. Filthy. Its not hard to pick up after your dog to keep places clean. I'm giving the park 4 stars and think it's a shame because if people picked up after their dogs it would be a fabulous park.
