Tucked away in the corner of a residential neighborhood, Wrigley Heights Dog Park is surprisingly big. Nevertheless, the mere dimension of a dog park doesn't make it great. There is very little shade at this park, and the ground covering is mostly mud rather than woodchips. Even worse, the far section of the park is covered by weeds that produce seeds with sharp burr. When our dog ventured into that area, all four of her paws were festooned with prickly traps, which rendered her unable to walk. We painstakingly removed the weaponized seeds, and my finger got stuck with one in the process. The entire area was like a minefield. I understand that it's hard to get rid of weeds, but having a dog park carpeted with sharp seeds that inflict pain on our shoeless friends is simply unacceptable. We left immediately and went to another dog park (McGowen Dog Park). read more

I'd driven by this park many many times before but hadn't gotten around to bringing my 2 dogs until this afternoon. I read the bad reviews before going so I was a little discouraged. Still, I wanted to let the pups run free and have a good time so we made the drive. First off, make sure you have directions before getting there. I missed the entrance, thinking it was on wardlow when I should've turned into a small street. Also, i suggest to just park on the street right outside the entrance. The "parking lot" is tiny and from the outside it seems like the entrance is an exit only, so this could throw some people off and could cause an accident. I have 2 small breed dogs and there is a closed off section for them with its own entrance from the street, but this being my first time there, I missed it. I went in through the main entrance and noticed the park was empty so I let my little dogs run around free in the bigger area. The park is pretty big, big enough for a lot of dogs to run around freely sand comfortably. The floor is covered with wood chips, so dirt won't come up in clouds! I read another yelper's concern that this couldn't be comfortable for the dogs but it honestly didn't seem to bother them at all. I really liked that there were plenty of benches for people to sit and some of them were under shady trees. Although there is no grass, which would make the park look a lot nicer, the trees give it a nice natural and fresh look. I don't know how clean it usually is here, but when i got there a landscaper was cleaning up, so everything was tidy while i was there. I saw one pooper scooper, but I think adding a couple more around the park would be helpful. The one is by the entrance and I had to keep walking long for it since my pups kept pooping far from it lol. The park provides a compartment for plastic poop baggies and it seems that people stuff it with extra bags (seems like it because there were only grocery bags in there). Next time I'm there I'll be sure to leave my own bag donation! Some yelpers have given this park a 1 or 2 star review because they've had a bad experience with aggressive and antisocial dogs. I don't think this reflects the park at all. It is a dog owner's responsibility to make sure their dogs are well behaved and have a good temperament before bringing them to socialize at a public park. It is unfair to hold the park accountable for any incidents involving aggressive pets. I will definitely be coming back with my dogs. It'll probably be their regular place of play! read more

We decided to check this park out over the weekend. Some owner here does not watch after their dogs. My puppy was attacked twice by this very aggressive dog. While the dog was very close to their owner, we didn't see the lady doing anything about it. This park is located in a odd location with only 5 parking spot. Not a fan and won't be coming back again. I decided to take my little dog here today so he could have a fun change of scenery and have the freedom to run around this giant area without a leash! Also, I have been wanting to come here for awhile since it is so close to my house! Although my dog has been to a dog park before, I have never personally taken him, and I was a bit nervous because he can be iffy around other dogs. My only issue with this place was actually getting there! It took me awhile to actually find it (which is totally my fault!) but the entrance was super weird - it almost looked one-way, but with only an exit, making it feel like I was entering through an exit. However, this place was essentially empty, so it was not a problem! The dog park itself is a big open area, the ground being a mix of dirt on wood chips. There are several benches throughout the whole place for people to sit. Also, there are plenty of trash cans, pooper scoopers, and doggy bags (though I did not check if they were actually stocked) - but regardless, the park did provide the means to pick up after your dog. There is a smaller enclosure inside the dog park, which I am assuming is for smaller dogs. There was only 1 other dog at the park while I was there, but my dog has pretty bad social skills, and he would growl whenever the other friendly dog would come over to say hi. Because of this, I brought him into the smaller enclosure, which was empty, so I felt more comfortable with him off the leash. I'm glad that I finally checked this place out! I can assume that it would be more crowded during the early mornings, nights, or weekends, but when I went (Thursday at 1pm), it was virtually empty, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your dog's personality. This is one of the worst Dog Parks I have been to: 1st, No Grass! The surface was like some type of recycle project? Wood chips, even looked like some kind of rubber chips? 2nd, I guess no one likes to pick up after their dogs. Dog mess everywhere, watch where you step. Me and my boyfriend decided to try and look for a dog park to take our puppy to. This place isn't the best as it's filled with wood chips and dirt. Our dog became super dirty, especially his mouth when we were playing fetch with him. There wasn't any seating besides lawn chairs place around and like 2-3 benches. They did have a water station for him to drink out of, but we brought our own water/water bowl. They had poop bags available, however there was leftover poop just on the floor in a lot of areas. Dirtiest dog park ever!!! I literally left with black shins and calves. It's big, but I don't want to spend time in a park where my dog and I look like we've been cleaning chimneys. I've talked to some local residents about this park, and they feel the same way. A couple I met actually lives right next to it, but they drive to the next closest park, because they can't stand the dirt. They are sad that it was rushed so badly and the materials used to make the chips is so gross. We're all hoping that after a couple good rains, the dust might settle down. My dog and I love this place! Full of nice, friendly, patient people that don't mind taking it slow with my timid rescue ! I took her into the fenced off pen and some people offered to let their calm dog in to get her used to being around big dogs by ignoring her :) thank you so much, you've made bringing her into a socialized environment so much easier! As for the actual park , its large (2ish acres), is made up of woodchips+pine needles+dirt, and has some trees around the perimeter. there are chairs here and there for you to try and find what little shade you can. but most people just walk/run around with their dogs. i like that there is a fenced off section within the park. read more

My normal dog park was closed for the day so I thought I would give this place a try. Upon getting there I learned: 1. Street parking only. I take 4 dogs to the park. I had to wrangle them in the street where you cannot see cars coming around the curve the park is located on. 2. One metal bench in the sun in the small dog park side. One broken plastic chair. 3. No trash can in small side. 4. I don't know about the large side but the small side was mostly dirt (and not packed down but more like softness of sand) mixed with minimal wood chips. 5. No bathroom. I know not a biggie but at my normal park it is nice because we can stay hours. I am woman, what can I say, I need a bathroom. And the worst thing. 6. My dogs escaped under the fence door! There is a large gap (on the bottom of the door) in the small dog entrance by the street. On both doors. My large (tall) chihuahua got through the gap and the tag along boston was right behind him. Thankfully they were only working their way under the second door when I spotted them. Thank gosh the newest and smallest hasn't realized he could get out. Not secure place for those who like to escape or explore everywhere. I will not be back. I won't chance a burned butt and lost dog. read more

I was in the area to deliver something and had brought my dog with me. I knew there had to be a dog park around here somewhere, so I break out my trusty Yelp app. After searching Yelp, I brought him here to let him run around and pee on everything, of course. This is a very large space, which is awesome. However it's all dirt and wood chips, no grass at all. Yes it's very low maintenance, but it's also very dirty. My dogs paws were covered top and bottom with dirt, as were my shoes. In fact I had to take my shoes off to empty the dirt before getting in my car. This was very reminiscent of a trip to the beach and having to empty the sand out of your shoes. We there there over 45 minutes and by that time my pupster was empty. Meaning when he lifted his leg, nothing came out. When that happens, I know it's time to go. :-) read more

I want to add to the conversation , the person with the tazer who approached the Pitbull owner was completely wrong to do that, and so no it's not you, it's him that has the problem. No matter what that guys' thought process is , this is 100% unacceptable behavior not only in a dog park but any public place. But first I want to point out , the signage which explains the Dog Park Rules are on the fence/gate of all LB dog parks and it does state you cannot bring aggressive dogs into the park. It also states you cannot bring females in heat , and that is another thing I have gone through with irresponsible dog owners in other parks. TBH, I have not been to Wrigley DP yet. I am hear reading reviews to make a decision on going. I am completely confused though b/c I have seen some reviewers say there are not separate sides for small and large dogs. But some reviewers say there are 2 sides BUT you have to bring your small dogs through the large dog side to get to the small side ???? That is crazy ! I don't know if it's true but why would they set it up that way ? But back to the point, the very first time I ever went to a dog park in LBC, I read the rules before entering. I feel like I am the ONLY person who ever did that though. I want to say LOL, but it's not funny really. I do not want to be the dog park police and inform people they are breaking the rules but at times I have to, for the safety of my dogs and when a problem dog (or owner) is preventing everyone else's dogs from playing. The 2 star rating is not because of my having a bad experience here with an aggressive dog or an inattentive owner. I am giving this dog park 2 stars because it is, well so far at least, the worst dog park I have ever been to. My friend and I decided to come here with our dogs after we had taken them for a walk over at Hilltop Park. We noticed that they kept running and trying to wrestle with each other while they were on the leash. So we figured we might as well take them to a dog park and let them run and wrestle without the constraint of being on a leash. We Yelped for dog parks and this park was one of the results. I totally get why people gave this park such a low rating. There's no grass here, it's all dirt or wood chips. I hate that there's no grass but I mean I can deal with it. The Brea dog park does not have any grass but the wood chips just kill it. I know the wood chips help deal with the dust storms therefore making it less dusty but I felt like the wood chips just made everything look dirty. They probably were not that nice on my dogs paws, not that she cared. She had a little Shiba Inu friend to play with and run after. It is in a really odd location, kind of hard to find and I had no idea they had a parking lot. I ended up parking on the street and walking over to the park. Some good things about the park: double entry, separated big and little dog section, decent size, free poop bags, and water station. Now on to the bad things, like I mentioned before no grass and all wood chips and dirt. There were fly colonies everywhere! I had to watch where I walked because I was scared I was going to walk into a colony of gnats. So gross! There was hardly any seating, barely any benches for the humans and luckily we went on a cloudy day but I did not see much opportunity for shade if it were sunny. They did have separated big and little dog section but the poor small dogs. Their section sucks, it's literally a gated off portion within the big dog section. The water station fountain was clogged up and not draining. I was scared to have my dog drink the water because who knows how long it had been sitting there and what's floating in the water. I just was not a fan of this dog park. My dog seemed to like it but then again I think it was because of my friends dog being there that she had fun. THE PARK: Clean. quiet, pretty big - big enough for my OEB to run and burn off a shit load of energy! Very safe* Benches throughout, water fountain for both 4 legged and 2 legged visitors and a great big gated off area for smaller dogs or if you'd like to keep your dog separated from others**. CLOSED Mondays per the posted signs***. Having said all of that- it would've gotten 5 but on our very first visit to this park, this is what happened (observe the * ** ***) ***Sign says closed Mondays, however today is Friday and the sign says closed -at the far end the gates were locked, but another visitor & I noticed the gate open at the other end. Thats how we got in. BTW the sign there said closed as well. **The other visitor had 2 little dogs and got into the park first and let his dogs run in the bigger part of the park. Due to my dog being a Bully breed that kinda looks like a Pit Bull and is not fixed, AAAAAND this is first time at a dog park, i didnt mind going into the sectioned off area as I was not sure of how my dog will react. He is not aggressive but very HYPER! It was a very big area as well. Besides, the other visitor wasnt sure how his dogs would react to mine either. So as a courtesy I opted for the gated off section for my pup. *AND THIS IS THE REASON I'VE NEVER BROUGHT MY DOG TO A DOG PARK: We were chatting for awhile and our dogs played through the fence When a large IN TACT stray dog just strolled on over toward us out of nowhere. No collar, looked and moved like an older dog, he was a large mixed, short haired breed. Looked like an American bully-Shepherd maybe. IDK Anyway, it was calm and ok at first on the other side of the fence with the little dogs. They were yapping at him, sniffing like dogs do and even jumped on him. He was slow moving & calm. We were still cautious though, you never know. Meanwhile, still wondering how this dog got into the park. There didn't seem to be any holes in the perimeter fence, but like I said it's a pretty big park. Anyway, not sure if my dog sensed something wrong, but he kept barking at it. And my dog rarely barks, it's his breed. They only bark if they sense a threat. This dog kept pacing the fence of the section we were in. I remember saying out loud and the other guy agreed, "Oh, please don't jump the fence." The fence is decoratively designed with a scalloped edge, so some places are lower than others. All of a sudden the stray dog climbed the fence into our enclosure and headed straight toward us. My dog met it head to head and they tangoed for a bit with Auden jerks and growls, I was trying to stay calm and call my dog over. But he only half listened to me by giving me the look. But not leaving the stand off dance with this dog. Trying to keep my fear in check so the dogs won't pick up on it, I slowly made my way toward them where it was getting increasingly aggressive, they were on hind legs, full teeth and biting, growling etc. I was scared SHITLESS!! I took the opportunity when the other dog did a turn to bump it away with my hip and grab my dogs harness so that I could leash him up and get him the hell out. The stray followed us on my heel but I threw my poo bag at it. It stopped and looked then just turned and slowly strolled the other way. Meanwhile I'm huffing and puffing and pulling my dog outta there. UNFORTUNATELY we will not return EVER! read more

Wrigley's Dog Park is a good place to have your dog run around and be crazy! My dogs are always happy when we bring them here and your dogs will be happy too! It is a huge park that is gated, which contains a smaller gated park within the park if you want to keep your baby dog(s) away from other/big dogs! Seeing that my dogs are super happy and running around playing tag, it makes me forget about the dirtiness and occasional poo poo on the ground. It can get crowded in the morning during weekends, which may be a problem for you and your dog(s). I suggest you bring them here later on in the day to avoid having trouble with other dog owners if you don't want any problems D: If you plan on coming here, it's best you take your dog(s) here if you have plans on bathing your pet. Me and my family always bring our dogs here on the day we plan on washing them. It works out fine because our dogs can have fun and get messy, without us worrying about how dirty the place is. The first time I ever came here with my dogs, I saw the happiness in their eyes that I have never seen before. They just kept running around until they could not run anymore! I wish every new dog owner can bring their dog here and experience this because it can be one of the best feelings ever. read more

This park pretty much does it all right. There's a section for smaller dogs and huge area for larger dogs. Seating in both sections and parking for both sections. A fountain for small and large dogs. There isn't much to dislike about this. However, if I were to nit pick, there's one that stand out to me personally. The dirt and wood chips and no grass. THE SUNSET LOOKS GREAT FROM HERE!! Very wide, open. Trees are located around the edges of the confinement. Metal benches & plastic chairs for leisure. Many varieties of dogs, usually only friendly people. It does not get crowded. Due to it's location, it is somewhat hidden, yet exposed to Wardlow. Exiting from the side is a little tricky. There are two entryways on the side. The larger one is locked. The other is accessible through the poop area. To access the gate, and avoid the poop area, boldly hop the fence. read more

First off, let me remind everyone: this is a PUBLIC park. It's not going to be well manicured as a golf course. This is a large park and also has a small dog area. There is water for dogs and the humans. I count 8 benches, 3 trash cans, 2 poop bag dispensers (with bags) and 2 ports-potties. There is a small parking lot but ample street parking. This park has plenty of room for the dogs to run around and enjoy. It's not designed for human relaxation. This place is awful. I took my bull terrier over here today. He is very sociable and loves to play. Upon arriving my dog started playing with a pit bull. All was going well until he went to play with three yorkie type dogs. One of them was very anti social and kept trying to bite and hurt my dog. After a short time the yorkie had scratched the pit bulls nose drawing blood. The pit bull owner and I ended up leaving. It is ridiculous that we had to leave because of another aggressive dog. This place is nice and big, pretty well maintained from what I could see. Came here about 10 a.m. on a weekday, it was pretty dead so it gave my puppy a whole lot of room to run around. I met a few regulars with their dogs, and everyone was super friendly. The only gripe I would have to put down for this park is that there is a large black stray that I was informed about that tends to hop the fence. Didn't think i'd run into him considering it was my first time at the park, however it did happen and it leaves me worried. I have heard that he can be aggressive, something I did not see for myself, however the fact that this stray is quite large and not neutered is definitely of concern to me. Today, Saturday, my wife, daughter and I take our 1 year lab/pit mix to this park. Place is empty when we get there. A little stark, but mostly cool vibe. My dog loves it and she starts exploring. After ten minutes a woman shows up with what looks like a German Shepard mix. Eventually my dog notices and heads over. As she approaches both dogs are wagging tails and all looks good. Then this woman grabs her dog by the collar and then her dog snaps at my dog. By the time I get there, her dog has snapped twice at my dog and my dog hasn't even bared her teeth, she's still trying to play. As get within earshot she says, "My dog is not friendly and does not like to play". Now a few choice words pop into my head (like why the he'll bring an unfriendly dog to a dog park) but in the interest of being friendly I grab my dog and start to walk away. Then she says. "Yeah, he doesn't like aggressive dogs.". Moron. Whatever. She eventually leaves as another car comes in. She's clearly talking to these new people. I come to find out she told them not to come into the park, our dog is agressive. She also told these new people that we are not from here. I live a mile and a half away. As another reviewer said, there is at least one person bringing antisocial dogs to this park and letting them off the leash. It's so close and convenient I might try again at some point but not with my kids around. read more

This place is just around the corner from my house and my doggy loves it!! He starts crying of excitement when he knows we are going!! The park is big and there is two different sections for small and big dogs!! Really glad they put this up. Good place to bring your dogs!! :) read more
