I live in San Diego CA and adopted a dog from the local animal shelter. He needed to be boarded for one night at Coombs until he could be picked up and brought to San Diego because the shelter cannot keep them there. Not only was Coombs so easy to set up an account with and have everything arranged, but they sent me the sweetest message about my new pup (who I had not yet met) and photos of him being adorable and playing with friends. After the hard little life he's had so far, he was given above and beyond care for his night of boarding and it looked like he had the best day. If I lived nearby, I would certainly recommend them as a boarding/daycare facility! read more

I picked up my dog today after a 10 day stay over the holidays. She has gone to combs kennel before as a day care dog and seemed happy. The girls I picked her up from in the front office said she had gone in heat. Illy had been fixed months ago. I replied if she's bleeding something is wrong. When she came out her rectum was so big I immediately called my vet to get an appointment while I was still checking out. They said she had diarrhea which I will say is common for dogs in a kennel. They get stressed. I paid and left. The owner called me explaining she thought the dog was in heat and in their records it shows she had not been fixed. She explained she had diarrhea but it was actually better. I can say it is not better. My biggest question was why did you not call me. I called them at the beginning of her stay to check and see how my dog was doing. Obviously I care. She said we don't bother the owners. Seriously, these dogs are our kids. If your baby was bleeding out their rectum I think every parent would be concerned. So I took her to the vet got some meds for her diarrhea. I noticed she had been itching her ears a lot so I had the Dr. check her ears he said that both ears had blood in then from ruptured blood vessels. Long story short don't take your dog to this kennel. The dog I picked up is not the same dog I dropped off. My dog was confident, talkative and bossy this scared little dog sitting on my lap is scared of her own best friend a chocolate lab. I don't care if you have been a vet tech for 15 years or ran a kennel for 20. My pup was sick when I picked her up from Coombs Kennel A simple call to me or to the vet on file would have been nice. Please bother me while I'm on vacation if my dog is sick. read more

If you love you furry family member and want the best for the fuzz ball when you have to board him or her while you are away....come here! I almost never have to board my dogs but a couple time I have in the past years and I would say Coombs is one of the best. I felt my little dogs would (and WERE!) looked after and CARED for in the way i would if in more home. The only thing I wish Coombs had was a grassy area for the pooches to run away on and not just on gravel. My dogs's foot pad really were used to being on rough gravel but then, they are spoiled a little being inside dogs. With taht said, everything else was great. Clean, efficient staff, a lot of fresh air during the day on their play time in the "yard" and warm and safe at night. Come check out Coombs. It is (I think still is) a family owned business but they don't treat the "guest" as just dogs but as family. read more

I love Coombs Kennels and their staff. Our dog, Tilly is a rambunctious dog who loves to play. She has attended playtime, stayed for vacations and generally has done everything there that they offer. Every experience has been professional, first class and loving. They are exceptionally responsive, clean and thoughtful in their care of our dog. She is our "baby" and we don't worry a moment when they have her in charge. We travel a fair amount and on one occassion, a larger dog attacked ours and serious damage was done, but death avoided as the care watcher was carefully paying attention to the dogs in playtime and saw everything in time to step in. They got her to our vet, notified us and worked with the other owner to handle cost of care (The other owner was terrific) and followed up on her care throughout. The other dog is no longer allowed to attend playtime, which is sad, but they put dog safety first. We are so happy to have this as "our" kennel! They are terrific! Oh, and Tilly loves to go there!!!!! And, they just built a big new play area!! read more

Very friendly. My dogs love it here for boarding and getting groomed. They can usually get us in on short notice I just really wish you could pick up on Sundays. It is frustrating to have to wait and pay for another night. Plus, it makes Monday that much more difficult. The facility is nice and the dogs have a lot of room outside. read more

I thought this was going to be my go to place when we have to travel, which is quite often. The employees seemed very nice and they actually seemed to cared about the animals. My dog never actually stayed here because after doing the tour and learning about the schedules, something dawned on me, so I called to ask. They said their last play time ends at 5pm and then it is feeding time. That's fine. HOWEVER, after this 5pm playtime, the dogs are not let out again until 7-7:30am the NEXT day. How can they possibly expect animals to go 14-15 hours without being let outside to at the very least go to the bathroom, and perhaps run around and stretch their legs. This is absolutely terrible to me, and I suspect many people don't know that is the practice at Coombs, which is why I feel compelled to write this. If they could just employ someone to stay until 9pm or so it would be doable, but its not humane and I'm sure most people traveling do not want their beloved pets trapped in a crate unable to go to the bathroom for 14+ hours. I have since ended up using personal sitters through Rover where my dog is treated like one of their own, and I receive pictures and videos. I hope this information helps pet lovers out there. read more

Am not connected in ANY way with this kennel, the owners or the employees. We've now come back from taking our dog to Coombs Kennels for his 3rd stay. Please understand that the stays Have been for longer periods of time and this last time was for over a month. We do not take our dog there for any daily sessions only because we don't have time to with our schedules. But if 1 star is inadequate and 3 is barely adequate and 5 stars is as good as it gets, here is our rating: professionalism = 15 stars, knowledge = 15 stars, treatment of the dogs = 15 stars, treatment of the dog's owners = 20 stars, price = 15 stars. For the month stay we were out of the country on a trip that was scheduled for over a year. They kept us abreast of Jack by internet. When we told them we would be returning late by 24 hours due to problems country-wide getting out of Costa Rica, they said to not worry about our dog because he is part of their family and to just worry about ourselves, they would keep our dog as long as they had to until we could get out of the country. We have been told by others as well how well their dog is treated and handled and the return comments have always been "excellent". That's why we took our dog there in the first place. Honest to God, If we needed any more family (I know, I know, most people want MORE family....but THAT'S NOT us), Coombs Kennels owners and employees would be our first choice. read more
