I always look at the bargain racks and as usual they never have my size in what I want or they do and its some crazy colour or pattern. The dry-fit shirts I have, about 8 from Columbia have all lasted me 3-5 years so far. I have yet to throw one out. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

You know, the clothing…read moreitem that seemed so cute on paper, but when it came back from the Asian factory, real and three-dimensional, everyone standing around as it was taken out of the box just said, "Whoops." And then they sent it directly to the outlet mall. There are some items like that at the Columbia store. Odd colors, designs you can't picture being sold at full retail. For example, pairs of plaid shorts, in bright summery colors with matching tops, that came down to the knee in form-fitting fashion -- they were essentially hot pants. I have to ask, what were these doing at a sporting-goods store? I can't imagine them selling well to Columbia's target market. But, there are also plenty of items that fit more squarely within the Columbia brand. Such as, a white linen shirt with button-up sleeves, perfect for lightweight sun protection on the water or when camping; and a pair of nylon shorts for whitewater rafting (when they won't let you wear cotton on the river). There are plenty of "quirky" items -- normal Columbia items such as warm winter coats, in slightly odd colors that obviously didn't sell well. For instance, I got a really nice sun hat for $6 (I think the original price was like $40). Even better if it's your favorite color -- this one was purple! I did not check out the shoe selection but they do have them. All sorts of camping gear as well. Like most outlet stores, you may not find exactly what you're looking for at this one, but you will find plenty that you weren't looking for -- and sometimes that's the best part.

Yes, I could try on something that doesn't fit and have them order the right size on line. But then why have a store? Pleasant staff cannot make up for poor buyers and limited stock.

I haven't been inside, but they like nice spots to take a break. Generally, no one bothers you as you browse unless you ask for help. I've found it a bit hard to get help on the makeup counters, with some counters being unmanned. I do feel like the staff odd a bit snobbish. Not so much when I am well dressed and carrying a Chanel bag, but when I was running in to grab something quick and dressed in sweats. Just a general feeling rather than at specific counters. So I do feel somewhat self conscious shopping here. There's an unseen dress code of sorts. Overall, clean, lots of space and easy experience.

After explaining to the salesperson what I needed it for we picked out two nice ones. I left a little confused that they didn't take any measurements. No big deal I have 3 weeks. A few days later one showed up at my house. Of course fit like hot garbage. I took it back and asked it to be tailored. No problem come back in a week. I left the suit and still hadn't had any measurements taken. At this point I'm down to 2 weeks. I run over to Mark Berman and son. Tried on a couple and picked one that looked sharp. I got measured up on the spot, by their in store tailor. Came back a week later and it fit like a glove. Mike is the man you need to see. He will get you squared away and have you looking like a champ in no time.

Flash forward to today, when I'm immediately met by an angry old man in the men's department demanding to know my business, and I just replied that I'd like to look around. He snapped back that "we'd prefer if you not look around and just leave, we think you take things without paying for them, and if you don't leave now we'll call the police, and if you ever come back here we'll call the police". How dare they! I have no idea where this accusation came from, nor am I interested in finding out now. Haughty bunch of snobbish jerks, I hope they go bankrupt.
