The beer, some from an attached brewery, was great, with a nice range of styles. Not everything on tap was another IPA. In terms of food, I'm not their target audience, but they do seem to have made at least some effort to have something without meat on the menu. In terms of food, I ordered the house salad with a smoked vegetable topping. It was great. The smoked vegetables were a really nice way to get a little bit of barbecue into a vegetarian dish. They also added lots of flavor to the salad. I was afraid the salad might not be very substantial, so I also ordered some pickle fries. Those were interesting, but substantially more food than I needed. The salad is already plenty for a meal. I've been traveling this week, and I think this place is the best restaurant I've checked out during my trip. Highly recommended.

As we were seated we had the privilege of meeting our waitress Sophia . Undecided on what to get besides the tater tots I picked her brain . Settled on loaded tater tots , coleslaw sweet potato's , brisket , turkey and a meat of her choice (ended up with pork belly . The loaded tater tots had jalapeño queso and pulled pork absolutely amazing tots . Coleslaw was nice crisp and a good mild flavor . While the sweet potato's were full of flavor and had a granola type stuff on to . Brisket was the perfect amount fat and meat . Turkey was thin sliced , great full flavor and slightly moist . The pork belly had lots of meat , mixed with the jalapeño queso the pork belly had a mind blowing flavor . The pork belly and the added queso should be the number one selling item on the menu . Full 5* from the perfect service and for the food

Our server--I believe his name was Joe--was incredibly attentive and accommodating. Food arrived VERY quickly. We had multiple people check on us throughout our dinner, all very polite. We ordered the fried chicken skins, buffalo frog legs, and bone marrow as appetizers. The chicken skins were HUGE and deliciously crunchy. The buffalo frog legs were very tender. The bone marrow paired very nicely with the bread it's served with. All were very tasty. For the main dishes, we got the 48 oz Tomahawk ribeye (topped with bone marrow butter and a side of fries), as well as the wood grilled lamb. We asked that the tomahawk be rare, specifying charred on the outside and still mooing on the inside, and they absolutely nailed it. The outside, especially the fat, was seared beautifully--it was absolutely delicious. The fries were very fresh and flavorful as well. We'd never had lamb before, so we asked our server to have them cook it the way he suggested. It was cooked phenomenally, and the flavors with the blackberry reduction were amazing. The goat cheese grits weren't overpowering, they were the best cheese grits I've had. The cornbread went very well with the steak. For dessert, we got the blackberry and blueberry cobbler, and the goat cheese cheesecake. They were both mouthwateringly delicious. I'm still thinking about that cobbler... Overall, there was not a single thing to complain about during our visit--besides it having to come to an end, lol. The food was absolutely phenomenal, and we'd never had a dining experience quite like this one. I absolutely recommend The Appalachian, it's well worth the money.

To make matters worse, this overpriced restaurant also adds a credit card processing fee. Unbelievable. Because of this, I've lowered my rating by one star and would strongly recommend saving your money and dining elsewhere.

There was so much that looked good on the menu that we sampled a lot of it: pork lumpia, oil pickled shrimp, hot peppered sweetbreads, whole hog noodles, striped bass laing, and corned beef guisado. The noodles, sweetbreads, and guisado were the standouts. We tried some cocktails, and they were okay. I wouldn't recommend coming here for drinks, but definitely visit for an outstanding meal.

I snagged a spot for Wednesday at 5:15pm for the bar. If you cancel your reservation late, you will be charged $30 per person (you can reserve up to max 4 in your party). Although I had made a reservation for 2 people, due to circumstances out of our control, my cousin couldn't make it in time so I ended up going to dinner by myself. I arrived promptly af 5:15 and explained the situation to them and they were very kind and assured me that everything would be okay. They sat me at the bar, where I was immediately greeted by the bartender and given a menu to review. The food menu is small but mighty! There is a variety of food options, and the dishes are explained thoroughly to you before you order. I wanted to try everything! But, ultimately decided on the following: Oysters ($16) - these were served as a pair and came with a raw quail egg and small string of sea grapes on each half shell. The oysters tasted fresh, the yolk from the quail egg tempered down the saltiness and gave it more body, and the sea grapes brought a light salty crunch back at the end. Tuna Kinilaw ($29) - 8 thick pieces of raw tuna that were served carpaccio style; the flavor reminded us of Bò Tái Chanh! Spring Onion and Zucchini Noodles ($38) - a heaping mound of egg noodles served with julienned carrots, green onions, and zucchini powder (I think). It also included a cooked egg on top that was cut into two. Duck Adobo ($45) - Pan seared duck breast cooked medium rare, served over a sticky omelet (it reminded me of boiled rice and potatoes that got blended into a glutinous, sticky consistency), and brown sauce with a side of pickled garlic. This dish came with white rice. For drinks, I got the Adobo Martini ($14), Pandan Daqiuri ($14), and Burnt Rice Martinez ($15). All three cocktails were unique and tasted wonderful! I finished off the night with the infamous cheese ice cream. It was a lactose intolerant person's worst nightmare (but I regret nothing!!!!). Grated cheddar cheese atop a scoop of vanilla/cheese ice cream. The concept may sound off putting, but the salty/savory/sweet blend of the ice cream and cheese was delicious! I couldn't stop smiling the whole time I was there. The open kitchen concept reminded me of when I used to help my parents out at their restaurant, the food felt like home because it was Asian comfort food, and everyone was so friendly! I was able to box up my leftovers and share with my cousin when she finally got in. Overall, an amazing dinner. I would stop here again if I ever come back to Asheville!

We remembered the garlic knots being some of the best that we had ever had and a slice of banana split cake that was extraordinary, so we started with two orders of the garlic knots for the four of us to start, to one of which we added pepperoni. Sure enough, these things are extraordinary! They didn't need the pepperoni, though. We all prefered the regular knots. The restaurant is pretty big on the inside and there were only two other tables of patrons on a Friday night, but Savannah had great energy and we enjoyed ourselves. -Point One daughter got a pizza, and the other got a salad, and my wife and I shared lasagna. All of these main dishes were just so-so (The pizza was better when we reheated it at home the next day in a cast iron skillet, actually.) They did not have the banana split cake this time around, so we opted for a slice of cheesecake and a chocolate suicide cake. The cheesecake was good, but the chocolate suicide cake was moist and delicious! If we find ourselves in the area again and decide to eat here, I think we might just get garlic knots and cake! And maybe a to-go pizza to reheat at home
