Banana given to us that was left out of our banana split instead of making a new banana split as promised !

We have always enjoyed Betty's Burger Hut. This evening we ordered a banana split. When we got home and opened it the spilt was very pretty. I was splitting it 3 ways. I noticed there were no bananas in it. We called them and the young lady was so nice, she apologized and said I'm so sorry please come back and we will make you another split. My grandson went to pick it up. The man there refused to make another banana split and handed my grandson a peeled banana in a baggie. It would not have been such a problem but the lady said I'm sorry and please come back and we will make another so basically we were lied to. Guess they lost a long term customer over such a simple fix. We like trading local but this is wrong. It was their mistake and they should have fixed it. I'm not angry just disappointed after we have enjoyed them for a long time !

This seems like a good old boys hang out. I wasn't sure what to expect or what order and the lady working the counter did a great job of explaining their menu to me. She told me what the locals like and walked me through the specials. I'm not a big fan of gravy so I told her to hold the gravy but she insisted that I put it on the side and I'm so glad she did. If you are looking for some local East Tennessee flair and hospitality be sure to stop here.

If we were rating this place for friendliness and quality of service it would get 5-stars. Unfortunately, the food doesn't match the personalities. Betty's Burger Hut is a local Waffle House type of a spot where locals rule. The folks working here couldn't be nicer. Meanwhile, the food is clearly below average. However, a stop here shows you good Americans do still exist. The cashiers (there's no sit down service) call men "baby" and "sweetie" and they yell "Order up" and have you walk over to the counter to pick up your meal on a tray. We walked in before a fishing trip on the Watauga and while we were ordering a man filed in line behind us seemingly in a hurry. The cashier could tell, handed him his order (he called it in) and told him he could pay later in the week. It's great to see these things still happen. Locals love this place an if you enjoy the Huddle or Waffle House, you'll become a regular. We came for breakfast and I'm still in awe of the prices. I haven't seen prices this cheap in a few decades. Three of us ate breakfast (with drinks) for $15. That's incredible! If you're going fishing and want a quick bite you can expect the order to be up within a few minutes. The quality is poor, but the price makes most overlook that. Hash browns are like McDonald's frozen patties (I didn't eat them, that's what the cashier told us). The bacon tastes like microwave bacon and the bread is low grade white bread, but everything goes down easy and fills one up for pennies! Plus, you get to mingle with the locals.

    Gravy on my fries????

I was amazed at how fast the line moved and although the seating is limited to a few tables inside and a few more under an awning in front of the restaurant we were able to find a seat even though we ordered our food for take out thinking we'd be eating in the park but we got lucky. You order at the counter and they give you a number placard and find you when your made to order food is ready. Being this was our first time here we were clueless of the protocol but the staff is ready to help with any questions you have. We ordered burgers and shared an order of crinkle fries and both of us got a self-serve fountain drink. This is definitely a local's favorite and boy did they pack this place at noon, only to be out done by their take out orders, this kitchen can put out lots of food so the wait time is very manageable. The burgers were fresh and well put together and delicious, we only realized you have to ask for pickles whether or not you order the burgers all the way after we placed our order so they brought out a small cup full and they definitely are a must. The crinkle fries were crispy and delicious and perfect with a few sprinkles of their signature "dust". The staff and food definitely exceeded our expectations and I'd eat here again just to try a few more of their offering - this is a wonderful small town locally owned business...

The outside area has TV's, lots do covered areas for shade, and even heaters for the cold months. Just a great vibe. The service was fantastic! Our server was amazing. Can't remember his name, but he has the Joker tattoo on his arm with lots of HA HA on it too! He was a gem and super friendly. He constantly checked on us and was such a nice guy. We ordered the grilled peach margarita (get this) and the top shelf marg which was also good (so good that we ordered 2 more). They also have a peanut butter jelly beer that we tried that was delicious. Well done drinks! We only ordered an app to snack on. Let me be clear about this... ORDER THIS!!! It was the Firecracker Pork Belly. Listen to me... this is dream worthy. This is magic. This is insanely good. Absolutely not enough words to describe how amazing this is and how much you have to get it. The pork belly itself is crunchy on the outside while also melting in your mouth. Then, the General Tso sauce served with it is perfection. There are scallions and a creamy sauce in the plate as well. You will question if it's okay to lick the plate. This place is great! The once-thriving area of downtown Elizabethton occupied by the Sycamore has fallen to pieces in recent years, but the classic restaurant remains. The former walk-up counter has been closed in with a few tables added, though the main business is take-out orders from locals on their lunch break or looking for an affordable dinner. The menu is general "burger joint" fare with a pretty large selection ranging from bologna sandwiches to chicken tenders, with sides including fries and mozzarella sticks. But the absolute stars of the menu are the burgers. Sycamore's patties are almost literally melt-in-your-mouth fare, juicy but not especially greasy. I like mine plain but ask about some of their specialty "off-menu" offerings to see how creative this hometown eatery can get with an American classic. One thing I have noticed about the food is that it is rarely too salty, likely owing to their attention to the needs of their clientele, many of whom are older folks who have been eating there for decades. That's a welcome change from normal fast-food fare. And speaking of fast food, Sycamore's prices easily beat similar fare in town. A regular cheeseburger will run you just $3.25, with a huge double cheeseburger coming in at $4.25. You can easily feed a family of four here for under $20.00 and be full. Don't let the old-timey exterior and the seemingly out-of-place location deter you: Sycamore Drive-In is truly a local gem in Elizabethton.
