I am giving this review from decades ago. I ate at Betty's several times a week when working at the airport. Betty's burger was known as a $100 hamburger, as pilots would fly in to try it. They knew about the burger because Betty's was in a $100 hamburger book. Again, I am reviewing the legendary memory of this staple. Happy times. You had the option to put gravy on everything. Bettys has some great food. The burgers are delicious, as are all the different things I have there. Reasonable priced and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. Dining room has always been clean and parking has never been a problem. If you're looking for a good ol hamburger, Bettys is a good choice. read more

We have always enjoyed Betty's Burger Hut. This evening we ordered a banana split. When we got home and opened it the spilt was very pretty. I was splitting it 3 ways. I noticed there were no bananas in it. We called them and the young lady was so nice, she apologized and said I'm so sorry please come back and we will make you another split. My grandson went to pick it up. The man there refused to make another banana split and handed my grandson a peeled banana in a baggie. It would not have been such a problem but the lady said I'm sorry and please come back and we will make another so basically we were lied to. Guess they lost a long term customer over such a simple fix. We like trading local but this is wrong. It was their mistake and they should have fixed it. This seems like a good old boys hang out. I wasn't sure what to expect or what order and the lady working the counter did a great job of explaining their menu to me. She told me what the locals like and walked me through the specials. I'm not a big fan of gravy so I told her to hold the gravy but she insisted that I put it on the side and I'm so glad she did. If you are looking for some local East Tennessee flair and hospitality be sure to stop here. read more

If we were rating this place for friendliness and quality of service it would get 5-stars. Unfortunately, the food doesn't match the personalities. Betty's Burger Hut is a local Waffle House type of a spot where locals rule. The folks working here couldn't be nicer. Meanwhile, the food is clearly below average. However, a stop here shows you good Americans do still exist. The cashiers (there's no sit down service) call men "baby" and "sweetie" and they yell "Order up" and have you walk over to the counter to pick up your meal on a tray. We walked in before a fishing trip on the Watauga and while we were ordering a man filed in line behind us seemingly in a hurry. The cashier could tell, handed him his order (he called it in) and told him he could pay later in the week. It's great to see these things still happen. Locals love this place an if you enjoy the Huddle or Waffle House, you'll become a regular. We came for breakfast and I'm still in awe of the prices. I haven't seen prices this cheap in a few decades. Three of us ate breakfast (with drinks) for $15. That's incredible! If you're going fishing and want a quick bite you can expect the order to be up within a few minutes. The quality is poor, but the price makes most overlook that. Hash browns are like McDonald's frozen patties (I didn't eat them, that's what the cashier told us). The bacon tastes like microwave bacon and the bread is low grade white bread, but everything goes down easy and fills one up for pennies! Plus, you get to mingle with the locals. read more

So driven by this place a couple times thought I'd try the place is a mom n pop lady tacking order friendly so of course got the 1/2 pound cheese burger with fries the burger was overcooked lack salt just no flavor the veggie were fresh the bun good the cheese was just thrown on not melted my thoughts are the burger is not homemade but bought in bulk like there fries crinkle cut frozen again not homemade plus I got the bottom of what looked like everybody's leftovers I think if you're place has burger in your name you have to do a lot better disappointed read more

HUGE FAN.5 stars because you get what you expect and you get it for less than $3! HOT plate of double biscuits and gravy - I am talking old school milk gravy just like my grandma on Stoney Creek would make. So 5 STARS. Staff and management keep this place running like a clock, clean and efficient. Hamburgers are also wonderful, they use that soft big bun that makes it a truly tasty sandwich. Think deep fat fryer and grill and you will get the picture. The prices are incredible; I mean a fried baloney sandwich for $2.50. That is love. You aren't getting healthy eating here, but you are getting happy and nostalgic. Great stop every time. read more

I ordered from Betty's Burger Hut via DoorDash tonight. I ordered a hamburger steak with fries, mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese. The sides were subpar at best. The hamburger steak was great after I had to toss off the soggy gravy coated fries from the top! Not appetizing in the slightest. Most likely not going to give Betty's Burger Hut my business again. read more

Stopped here after hiking to Laurel Falls on our way back to our cabin. Ordered two bacon cheeseburgers, tater tots and onion rings. Fairly reasonably priced and even though it was busy, food was ready fairly quickly. The thickness of the burgers was slightly disappointing, especially since my tomato was thicker than the burger. Serving size of tater tots and onion rings were decent. Restaurant could have been a little cleaner but it looked like the staff was all busy in the kitchen. Overall, wow. Don't know how there's not more of these. Everything I ate was gas. Burgers, fat. Fries, excellent. Blasts, amazing. Everything was so cheap profit margin must be paper thin. The service was probably the best service I've ever had at a fast food restaurant in al my years. I kid you not I had to go up three times to order more food because it was just that extraordinary. Not a bad little spot, if you like burgers at least. I've found their hamburgers to be pretty tasty at a low price that's hard to resist. Sadly they fall short on many side items though. The cheese tots, cheese fries, and cheese sticks have all been disappointing. They have many items I have yet to try and with such a pretty view outside and the low prices, I'm sure to continue coming back for more. read more

We were driving through Elizabethton on our way to Watauga Lake when we saw this place and decided to try. My son and my husband ordered the half pounder with fries and onion rings. I tried the hamburger steak that came with 2 sides and texas toast. We all enjoyed our burgers. They were juicy and well cooked and seasoned. The sides were all good. Friendly service too. Burger Hut has been around far longer than I have. They have consistently good comfort food. Hamburgers hot dogs, Philly cheese steak sandwiches one of my favorites. They have good hamburger steak dinners too. Their breakfast biscuits are big and the biscuits and gravy are cat head size. Most always get good food sometimes they're busy though. read more
