We are Wine Club members and regular customers, so it's disappointing to leave a review like this. This past Sunday was the **third time we've waited more than 45 minutes for our food at Cooper's Hawk**. This time, it was over an hour. After about 50 minutes, we spoke with a manager and made them aware of the situation. Our food eventually arrived more than an hour after ordering, but what was particularly disappointing was that the manager never came back to check on us, provide an update, or acknowledge the situation afterward. We weren't looking for an apology or special treatment--a simple check-in would have demonstrated some basic customer service and concern. To be fair, the manager did comp our meal, and we appreciate that gesture. However, the comp doesn't really address the bigger issue. **This has now happened three times**, and the lack of follow-up after we specifically raised the concern was frustrating. There was also an issue with my entrée. I ordered the steak salad, and while it was tasty and the steak was prepared correctly, the portion was disappointing. The steak was extremely small, and the salad itself looked more like a **side salad than an entrée-sized salad**. For an entrée, especially at Cooper's Hawk prices, I expected considerably more. We really do like Cooper's Hawk, which is why we continue to come back and maintain our Wine Club membership. But loyalty works both ways. We expect a reasonable level of consistency and customer service, and unfortunately, this visit fell short in both areas. Hopefully this feedback is taken seriously. We celebrated Mother's Day dinner at Cooper's Hawk, and it was a wonderful experience! We had reservations for around 6:00 p.m. and were seated promptly, even though the restaurant was packed because of the holiday weekend. The atmosphere was lively and made the celebration feel even more special. We ordered a nice variety of dishes, and everything we had was delicious. The service was stellar from start to finish--our server was attentive, friendly, and kept everything running smoothly despite how busy it was. Hub's got takeout from Cooper's yesterday. He got meatballs, dumplings, and egg rolls. Despite every dish (and I think they were appetizer sizes) looking good, the flavor and quality was very subpar. Any of these dishes could be found at any number of regional franchise places like TGIFriday's (if anyone remembers those), Ruby Tuesday, Apple ees, or Champy's, or any number of local sports bars. It was nice of the Hubs to give their food and honest try, I was just completely underwhelmed. Where is the innovation? Where is the unique twist on these all too familiar dishes? Overall, i really wasn't impressed. Made reservations for my mom's birthday. It was a party of 4 of us, we ordered an app, my mom had a glass of wine. We had to ask for bread, our food took an hour and 8 mins from ordering to be served. The manager came and apologized and said it was the risotto that was taking so long. Our food finally came out, and my mom only saw one scallop in the risotto, so she asked and the server said he would get her an extra order.. she found another in the risotto hidden under the risotto. The picture attached is the "extra" scallops for the dish. The parmesan crusted mahi mahi had great flavor, but it was very overcooked? Gladly it was served with lemon because it was very dry. The bettys potatoes were delicious. The pretzel crusted pork chop and the pretzel coating had a good crunch, but needed more of the broccolini to cut the sweetness of the crust, or something, it was just missing maybe some salt? It was decent, but nothing to write home about. Overall the best dish of the night was the burrata tomato bruschetta. Our waiter did keep our drinks full, but was very hit or miss with the service, It was decent loud for it to be an upscale type restaurant. Nola hostess tried to sit us at a bad table was reluctant to move us. Wasn't sure where her restaurant was located. Joe waiter dropped off water and left didn't ask if we wanted something to drink or appetizer. Food took a long time to come out and when it came it was cold mashed potatoes. I asked for cheese on the potato's and they put Parmesan cheese instead of shredded cheese. He was not attentive at all, left the appetizers on the table the whole time that we ate. Lied to the manager and said we didn't want to talk to him about the service. When the bill came he gave us a ticket still didn't bring containers or ask if we needed them, then brought a small bag for five containers so they all didn't fit. When he brought the change he purposely brought us back big bills trying to force a big tip. We left a tip but if you want the tip you think you deserve the give better service. Ryan manager: was apologetic and took care of the situation and issues. We appreciate that. If we go back I hope it's better service. I had high expectations for Cooper's Hawk - but they fell very short of those. To start: the dress code is casual. A lot of people were in jeans, leggings, and sweatshirts. I expected more fancy so we were dressed business casual. The ambiance is VERY dark (as reflected through the photos) and VERY, VERY, loud. Even our server commented on that when trying to take our order. There was a screaming kid at another table too so that was a little off-putting - though not the restaurants fault. The best part of the experience was the Strawberry-Elderflower Vivant. We were offered house wine and given the tour, but I don't drink so we got the sparkling Vivant instead and it was absolutely amazing. We ended up buying 2 bottles on the way out (although the price up front was cheaper than it was on the menu). Our appetizer was the sausage and burrata flatbread. This tasted really good - could have had more burrata but the flavor was amazing. We both got the Surf & Turf with different options. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was way overcooked. I also got the soy glazed salmon, wasabi mashed potatoes, and roasted vegetables. My husband got Chimichuri flank steak, grouper, regular mashed potatoes, and roasted vegetables. The star of both dishes was the vegetables. Nothing was seasoned and everything was bland - and I mean I added so much table salt. The plating was subpar as well. The wasabi mashed potatoes I ordered were the same mashed potatoes as the regular, with just a glob of horseradish (not wasabi) cream on top. We were celebrating our anniversary so they gave us 2 truffles to end our meal. The review was a 2 until we got these - they were very good. Overall, really disappointed in the food. The wine and truffles were amazing, and the ambiance was just so-so. Definitely a good place to enjoy wine, do a tasting, and maybe have an appetizer but I wouldn't spend money on an entree. I never thought I would drive almost two hours to have brunch, but I did. Our little wine group decided to make a little trip to Madison to try this new restaurant. We went there a month after they opened. First off it's a beautiful building. The inside was beautifully decorated. The vibe in there was so awesome. I highly suggest making reservation reservations. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty busy. Our waiter was Tyler C and he was incredible. He had told us he had worked at different locations and that he had just moved to Alabama recently. His knowledge of the menu was impressive. All four of us told him what kind of wines we liked and he each brought us samples. I ended up going with the sweet Red. Even though it was brunch time, I was feeling like lunchtime. I had the spaghetti and meatballs. It had some ricotta on top that really just sealed the deal for me. It was so delicious and it was a lunch portion, which was perfect. I did pair that with the sweet red wine. Since this is my first time coming here, I of course, had been looking at the menu for several days. Anything salted caramel I want and they had a salted caramel crème brûlée it was euphoric. Probably the best crème brûlée I've ever had. And I must say the bathrooms were very clean and I visited it about twice. This will definitely be on my list to come visit again. I hope we get one in Birmingham soon. read more

This restaurant has only been open for a month and such a great addition to Madison. When you first enter the restaurant, you see the wine tasting bar and gift shop area. There are so many wines to choose from for the tasting. You can select red, white or international tastings. The samples they serve you are larger than most and you try 8 different wines. Great price too... $14 for 8 glasses. We actually came in for brunch and just want to say that the service was above and beyond. Tyler took time to get to know his customer's likes and brought us out a few glasses of wine that he thought we may like. We all enjoyed the selections he chose for each of us. Now the food... Everything was scratch made and absolutely fantastic. The steak and eggs with shrimp Oscar was superb. Scrambled eggs were light, the potatoes were cooked just right and the steak was delicious, not dried out. We had nothing but positive reviews for this brunch. The service and ambiance was excellent when going. I have gone twice and each time have been overly impressed with how easy and welcoming the experience has been. The first time I had a reservation and was seated within 5 minutes, this was the weekend after opening weekend. Our server was knowledgeable and had many great recommendations, which led us to the egg rolls ! HIGHLY worth !!! The second time was an impromptu girls night on a Saturday around 7:30. We were quoted a 35 minute wait, and only waited maybe 10 minutes max. The food has been flavorful each and every time, and everyone has been so attentive and helpful. We saw construction on this restaurant go up pretty quickly, but was happy to finally try it out. Luckily the restaurant takes reservations because on a Friday afternoon, it was pretty packed. The restaurant itself is very pretty and decorated nicely. It is a nice size with decent lighting and has a welcoming atmosphere. It also has outside seating. When you first walk in, we noticed a large crowd doing wine tastings and later found out through our lovely waitress Jamie, that they offer wine tastings and a wine club that you could join. There are different levels and each level has a different price. As far as food, they have a good sized menu so I am sure everyone will be able to find something they like. For appetizers, we ordered the chicken potstickers and the Italian sausage flatbread with whipped burrata. Both dishes were served hot and were seasoned pretty good. For dinner, we ordered crab, shrimp, & lobster bisque, which was really delicious and had nice sized chunks of meat. In addition, we ordered the baked Parmesan shrimp scampi and Dana's Parmesan crusted chicken with green beans. Both dishes were delicious and well proportioned. We were so stuffed from the appetizers and our dinner that we didn't have any room left to try their desserts. So definitely will have to try that out next time along with their wine tastings. Lastly, it appears that they do have a decent happy hour menu with discounted food and drinks so will definitely have to come back and try that as well. We had a reservation but the check-in experience really set the tone in a bad way. We waited almost 10 minutes just to check in, with only one party ahead of us, while 6-8 people stood behind the hostess stand. No greeting, no acknowledgment. When we finally checked in, we were told it would still be 15-20 minutes after our reservation time. When we were seated, I asked for a corner booth and the hostess visibly rolled her eyes -- not a great look. On the positive side, once we sat down our server came over within a minute or two and was genuinely great. Friendly, attentive, and professional. Unfortunately, the food side was mixed. I ordered the braised beef short ribs, literally the reason I came and about 5-10 minutes after ordering, we were told they had run out earlier at lunch. That was a big disappointment. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, but it's pretty loud, and the entire place had a very strong fish odor. We were told it was from marinating calamari, but it was noticeable throughout the dining room. Food-wise: * Chimichurri rubbed steak was underwhelming and lacked flavor * Rigatoni was actually quite good * Kids chicken strips didn't come out until we were already leaving To their credit, the manager came over, apologized for the kids meal delay, and removed it from the bill, which was appreciated. Overall, service was good everywhere except the hostess stand, and our server really did a great job. With better front-of-house management and more consistency from the kitchen, this place could be much better but as it stands, it was a mixed experience. Restaurant manager was very pleasant, welcoming and nice. I believe she set the tone for all service of staff and that alone drives appreciation from the community bringing longtime business. I really liked it! My wife weren't super hungry, so we decided on 2 appetizers and a main dish between the 2 of us. App 1: drunken shrimp, 3.5/5. It's good, the sauce and guac is good, but not mind blowing. Portion is a bit small. App 2: egg rolls, 4.5/5. We really liked these, and all the sauces they came with. Very filling too for an appetizer. A little bit thinner and crispier batter and it would be a 5/5. Main: surf n turf Parmesan crusted pork chop and seared ahi tuna with Mary's potatoes and fingerling potatoes. Pork chop: best I've ever had, 5/5. Mary's potatoes: solid 4.5/5. Fingerling potatoes were nice 4/5. Ahi tuna, good flavor seasoned well but overcooked for my taste, 3.5/5. The wine prices aren't pretentious either, we enjoyed a whole bottle of wine with our meal and joined the wine club, a really neat perk that I've never seen at a higher end type place like this. We had dinner here last night and overall had a fantastic experience. We did have a reservation for 3:30 pm but weren't seated until around 5:00, which is a pretty long wait. That said, the wine tasting while we waited was great. The manager, Michael, was especially wonderful, he took the time to walk us through the wines, helped us choose ones we were excited to try, and was incredibly kind and attentive. When we mentioned we were still waiting for a table, he immediately stepped in and got us seated. Our server, I believe his name was Tyler, was also great!! He was friendly, helpful, and fun, which really added to the experience. Michael continued to check in on us throughout the evening, which made us feel very well taken care of. Honestly, the entire experience ended up being worth the wait. The wine was delicious, the food was outstanding, and I still had a great evening with my girlfriend. Our server seemed disengaged and uninterested, as if they were simply going through the motions rather than providing attentive service. The Brussels sprouts were very good; however, both of our entrées were disappointing. We each ordered surf and turf options -- my husband chose the pork chop and grouper, and I selected the churrasco and grouper. Both plates arrived with the meat and fish heavily covered in sauces and placed together on the same plate alongside mashed potatoes and vegetables. The presentation was unappetizing (I wish I had taken a photo). I ultimately asked to have my meal boxed to go. Despite it being a full entrée, it was packed into a small container where the vegetables were mixed into the mashed potatoes and the steak and fish were buried underneath. I asked to speak with the manager and showed her the issue. She said she would take care of it; however, the only change made was transferring the same mixed meal into a larger container. By that point, the fish was soggy and the steak was covered in mashed potatoes. Overall, it was not worth the price, especially for a chain restaurant. I walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night (the restaurant hasn't even been open a full month yet). The host was able to answer all my questions and even called me over asking if I would like a table that was going to be a no-show. I was able to grab a reservation on Open Table and I was seated quickly. Our server was incredibly attentive to our needs, was extremely patient and was helpful with selecting food items as well as wine. My friend and I stayed until close (four hours) and we never felt rushed. There was a gentleman at the tasting counter that offered to ring me up for my bottle of wine. Great Kitchen, Consistently Terrible Front-of-House Experience I hate to leave a negative review because the food at Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant is truly exceptional--but the service has now been consistently disappointing across multiple visits. Most recently on 15 April 2026, myself and a friend arrived at 7:15pm. My friend was seated promptly in the center section of the high top tables within the bar at 7:18pm, and I arrived at 7:20pm, with four high-top tables on either side of us as well as a total of seven booths along the wall in front of us while the bar was to our backs. From that point on, we were essentially invisible. A staff member named Gabby walked past our table at least 20 times without ever acknowledging us--no greeting, no offer to get our server, not even water or bread. Meanwhile, Gabby brought tasting wines, bread, water, took orders, etc to the individuals in the first four booths as well as took the order of the individuals seated at the high top table to our left. With the exception of one booth couple, all these individuals were seated after us, yet were quickly served with drinks and appetizers. Not once did Gabby attempt to even stop by our table to simply acknowledge our server would be with us or that we existed- just consistently walking by and between the high top tables on either side of us ignoring us. After waiting nearly 30 minutes with no service, we informed the manager, Asia, at 7:45pm that no one had stopped by our table. Our waiter, Greg, didn't come over until 7:55pm--40 minutes after we were seated--just to take our order. I will say, our server Greg ended up being the saving grace of an otherwise horrendous experience. Once he became aware of the situation, he was attentive, took the time to explain the menu, and profusely apologized for the complete lack of recognition we experienced as patrons. Unfortunately, the issues didn't stop there. At 8:07pm, when we asked the bartender, Christine, for ice, we were met with noticeable attitude, which only added to the frustration. What makes this even more disappointing is that this wasn't my first poor experience here. On March 28, 2026, I came in specifically for happy hour and sat at the bar at 3:30pm. Despite there being only three other people seated at the bar and no one else in the bar area, I waited 20 minutes before anyone on the bar staff of three, a woman and two men one with brown hair and the other with dark brown hair, acknowledged me or offered service. They did not offer their names as most do when approaching to offer service at a bar/restaurant. When I was finally approached, the gentleman with the dark brown hair, handed the regular menus and left. After asking the gentleman with brown hair for the happy hour menu, he first stopped to look at his watch before handing it over--which was odd, considering I arrived right at 3:30pm specifically for happy hour and although I waited what seemed like an eternity, it was no where near the close to the 5:30pm end of Happy Hour. It's incredibly disheartening to be treated so poorly, especially when the kitchen is clearly doing such an outstanding job. The quality of the food deserves a much better front-of-house experience. Unfortunately, the repeated lack of service and professionalism has overshadowed what could have been great visits. read more
