Great beach with nice soft sand and great atmosphere ....a little too pricy $50 cash $52 for credit.

This man's opinion: I live in Southampton and I can tell you from years of experience that the Cooper's Beach that I and my family have come to love, JUST AIN'T THE SAME ANY MORE. They used to have a rubberized walkway that led from the parking lot area to the beach. This was great for the handy capped and older people who have trouble walking long distances on sand. Well, it's gone. So are the clean bathrooms that we've always taken for granted. The main killer and what will doom this beach for us is the transition in owner/operator of the "snack bar." This used to be an upscale place that we would go to, even when not going to the beach. Thick meatie burgers burgers have been replaced with hockey pucks that make a McDee burger look great. Gone are the lobster rolls, replaced with fish tacos that have one scrawny piece of fish and a little mayo wrapped in a clod taco skin. The once fabulous French fries which were dipped in a coating that made them THE BEST have been replaced by soggy FFs that make the steamed ones that I got in grade school seem like a delicacy. By the way, a tray with about 2 ounces of these FFs will run you $4.00. The excuse for a hamburger is now $7.50 A sandwich with a sliver of chicken, a slice of bacon, one thin slice of tomato a leaf of lettuce is now $10.50. The town put the concession up for bid and the one who offered the most money for the rights won. Shame that we, the users have lost. Amazing beach. Top 10 in the world. $40 to park, but the beach is clean and the water is blue! The sand is nice, clean, soft, and not shelly. You can walk for miles.... It doesn't get crowded much... and you lay out and enjoy the sun. I took a nice fall in the ocean... and recovered lol. The waves were moderate and the water temp was about 70. MUST SEE! read more

Pros: -The parking fee means controlled crowds -Clean and well maintained -Beautiful sand -On beach chair & umbrella rental Cons: -The non-resident parking fee is $40. Yes, that is per day. -There is nothing to do or walk to around here other than the beach. They have a small concession area, but it gets mobbed and really doesn't have much variety. Suggestions: Get here with the early crowd and come armed with food and drink. Leave before the PM dinner rush and you'll be westward bound before the traffic crunch. read more

Really nice white sand beach. Mild undertow, at least the the day we were there, so good for small kids. Concessions available, including burgers, fish and chips, salads, etc. Clean bathrooms. $40 for a permit/parking seems really excessive. I'll never complain again about $20 parking at Venice Beach. (Who am I kidding? I'll still bitch about it, but $40?) Be sure to check out the nice estates on the way in/out. Did I mention it's $40 to park? Noticed some cars parked along the highway when we were leaving, assuming they were seasoned Coopers Beach visitors. read more

The Sweet old Hamptons! Rockefeller's playground! Even though, I am poor as can be, I wanted to experience the luxurious Hamptons. I came here with my cousin and we were very impressed with this beach. Sorry to break it to you, but it cost $50 to enter the beach for a day pass. Welcome to the Hamptons. What do you expect? However, it was quite worth it. I did not like that they charged tax because I used my credit card to pay for the $50 fee. So instead of being $50, they charged me $52.10. Not the biggest deal in the world, but I would of preferred if someone told me before I used my credit card. The beach was very clean and well maintained. They had a Beach Cafe which was nice and had a tons of options for food. The staff was very nice and I appreciated that. The crowd was very classy and there was no chaos there. No radios, no hookahs, no alcohol, no loud people & no trash on the floor. Just peace and serenity. It is not a party beach at all. It's a beach to unplug from the world and just breathe in the sea breeze. They had wifi at the Beach Cafe which came in handy because service was spotty there. Not sure if it's because of my cell phone carrier or it was the location of the beach. This is beach is nice but to be completely honest, it is a little hyped up. It is a nice beach but I wouldn't say the best beach in America as the sign says when you enter the beach. I had a nice experience and would recommend to people who want to unplug from the world. read more

Real deal. Beautiful 'granulated sugar' sand, big waves, (relatively) small crowds, and no cig butts to be found anywhere. One star off for the $40 parking, the nasty parking attendant, and residue on the windshield left from the parking sticker. The beach house is nice with decent food options. Wish they had indoor showers, but the outdoor versions work fine. A little scary to swim in the big surf, but once beyond the waves, the water is pristine - just like the beach. Easy to spend 5hrs here, which somewhat negates the parking. Wooden beach chairs available for rent as are umbrellas. Should be free give the parking, but this is the Hamptons, and not Carson beach in Southie. read more

Came to Southampton for a weekend in late July and Cooper's Beach was the closest beach to our house. We came on a Saturday around 1pm and it was already really crowded. There was a parking fee of $40 per car but the parking lot was full so we had to park in the overflow grass lot across the street. A few friends came on Friday afternoon and didn't have to pay so the fee might be a weekend thing. The beach has a small house with food and restrooms. There are a few rinse stations as well. By the time we got in, the beach chairs and umbrellas were sold out. There is also no signal on the west side of the beach. The sand is really clean quite grainy rather than fine..reminded me of sea salt. The water was very cold but the sun was great! The beach itself is pretty nice but would've been better if it was less crowded and didn't have such an expensive parking cost (probably related). I also saw a sign advertising drive-In movies on Monday night, which sounds fun. read more

This is a nice beach, but overall, I don't think its worth the $40 non-resident fee. There are a number of other beaches in the area that are just as nice, less crowded and half the cost. We went on a busy holiday weekend, but sort of later in the day, and were pleasantly surprised when we did not encounter any lines or traffic at the entrance. Oddly, one of the kids working came over to our window and said "we're sold out of parking passes." I pointed out that there were at least 20 empty spots within eyesight, and she just repeated that they were sold out. We ultimately wound up hanging out for a few minutes and then re-entering and paying someone else without any issues, but I just thought the whole interaction was really strange. Like I said, the beach is really beautiful for a Long Island beach, and there is a huge snack stand. But the lines were crazy... especially for the women's bathroom. And the bathroom was nasty, no toilet paper and trash everywhere. I can imagine this beach is better during the weekdays when its less crowded. read more

This beach was rated as the second best beach in the US. I was told the beach would be extremely crowded but that was not the case. May be because it was still chilly in April. There were only a handful of people in the beach. We walked along the shore and enjoyed that we had the beach to ourselves. Also the parking was free since it was off-season. read more

The stars are for location location location. It's a beautiful beach. The cost to spend the day not worth it. Plenty of other beaches to go to. So spend the $50 to park and bring your own food and beverages. Prices are outrageous-hamptons or not. It's absolutely ridiculous to spend $20 for a grilled cheese and nasty fries and a lousy soft drink. Or park in the village and take the free ride. Save the $50 from parking to buy their nasty food. The beach is one of the ten best beaches in the continental USA. Clean, fine sand on a beach that seems to stretch out for ever. The only thing I'll warn yo about is the snack bar. In 2016, the village awarded the food service contract to a new vendor. The food has changed for the worse in my opinion. The burgers have shrunk and now make a regular Mc Dee burger look big. Gone are the coated french fries. Instead of offering complete plates with a meal, fires and drink, everything is now a-la-carte. With portions smaller and food quality not the same, I now bring my own food. read more

Now im a caribbean beach girl that loves to swim in beautiful clear green blue water. However this was suprisingly a beautiful beach in New York. We had a great sunny day with no clouds and decided to take a trip to Coopers. We were recommended to go here by quite a few people in town. The parking is a bit on the pricey side at $40 but it was worth it. We entered without waiting long in line and parking was available without searching. There is a large rubber mat that runs closer to the beach area. The sand is a small grain beautiful white paradise. Most people carried there chairs and umbrellas or blankets. I saw 2 life guards on duty and a good amount of people in the water. The water was a bit cold but ok when you stay in for awhile. They have food and soft drinks for sale. The bathrooms were ok as far as cleanliness. Overall, friendly people and staff and a beautiful relaxing beach.i would definitely go back ! read more

After reading the illustrious reviews about the beach, we were expecting so much more. It is not the French Riviera or Santorini. It's a very nice beach with a large price tag for admission. I agree with the reviewers who wrote the umbrellas are worth the $15. This is true. Tip: Stop off at a market and bring your own food. We picked up salads and sandwiches on the way there. No complaints but nothing to write home about. read more

I came here earlier today and now I feel like I have been to heaven. Wow. This beach is stunning! Best beach I have ever been to near NYC. The great reviews on Yelp are spot-on. Very clean beach area with light sand that is smooth and free of rocks and seaweed, and water that is clean and clear. This beach is more crowded than Little Plains Beach but still, coming from NYC, this isn't really crowded at all. We had a parking permit so we didn't have to pay the $40 upon entering but if you don't already have one, you will have to. We also brought our own umbrella but they have umbrellas for rent in case you don't bring one. The crowd seemed calm and nice too. I really didn't want to leave - we had a great time. I hadn't been to The Hamptons in very long. While visiting family in the east coast, I decided to go spend a day at the beach. My friend mentioned how I've always loved south Hampton so that's exactly where I went. I parked in their parking lot ($40) for the day, a bit pricey but the beach is so beautiful and well kept that it was worth it. They rent umbrellas for $15 and chairs for $10. The bathrooms are pretty clean compared to other beach bathrooms. This beach is a great place to visit. The sand is very clean! read more

Not worth it. Went here because it was given such high ratings on trip advisor, but definitely was a waste of time. First off to park is $40!!! Umm I live in southern Cali where them the beaches are amazing and we don't even charge$40! But since it was given high ratings we paid... Big mistake! It was super crowded. Nothing special really... The beach itself is nice with big waves and plenty of room. There is a beach shack serving food as well. My issue is the parking. $40 seems pretty exorbitant, especially if you only want to spend an hour here. They should have meters in which you can pay by the hour which I did not notice they offered. I brought my own umbrella (there is no shade on the beach.) I noticed blue umbrella beach rentals which I believe are around $15. I understand charging a nominal fee for maintenance but $40 for parking is high in my opinion. If you are spending the whole afternoon, then perhaps it is worth it but if you coming with a large family with several carloads- expect that your day can get a bit pricey. read more

This is my favorite beach on the North East Coast for sunning . . . for surfing though, I would go to Montauk, particularly Ditch Plains which is a point break. I've been to Long Island beaches where they do the Quicksilver surfing competition every year and the wind conditions are just not ideal for sunbathing, though great for surfing and wind-surfing, and the surf town there feel a bit . . . provincial like much of Long Island. Montauk feels too much like a fishing village and so really just go for the surfing and lighthouse. Sunset beach on Shelter Island has too many distracting yachts and it is too much a party scene. Jones Beach is too ghetto and crowded. You go any further North like say to Newport, water is too cold to do anything. But Cooper's Beach is just perfect. Beautiful sand, not too many rocks, ideal wind conditions for sunbathing, nice crowd, quiet, not too crowded, great clean amenities, all with a cool beach town (Southampton) nearby. It is expensive to park here if you don't know any better (and try to park in their parking lot instead saying going a couple blocks away and parking for free as the friendly parking attendant so kindly informed us) or you can take the Hamptons Jitney, which I would recommend over the LIRR given the much higher frequency with which it runs and the key stops at which it . . . ports, shall we say since I'm feeling nautical. If you are not planning on hopping on a plane and are going to beach on the North East Coast, try to do it right and Cooper's Beach would be my #1 recommendation. read more

The cafe at Coopers is exactly what you want for your day at the beach. Yummy food, great options and reasonable prices (particularly for the spot!). The tacos are fantastic, especially the fish and carnitas! Love the fresh salads, the burger and the Cubano sandwich as well. It's a big beach so this place gets busy, so make sure you get in early. This review is for the beach only, and not the concession stand (which is nothing to write home about). Clean, combed, beautiful sand, with no garbage anywhere in sight. The lifeguard staff is a bunch of wonderful people that keep a good eye on what's going on in the water. The water is clean and you generally will not see a lot, if any seaweed, as I think they scoop it up daily. (Clean ocean as it is, it's always a bit too cold for me) A bit pricey yes, at $40.00 for a day pass, but I think it's worth it. No riff raff, no loud radios or empty beer bottles, etc. Finally, please don't swim after 5pm. Lifeguards leave at five. The rough surf and undertow will surely drown your ass. read more

I agree with some of the other posts, this is a reg beach with overpriced parking. Nothing really special....it's a beach with beach food that is run by teenagers. It would be nice to see an adult running the food services because that operation is a mess and most likely has some food violations. read more

Cooper beach is a great place to hang out with friends or by yourself. The place is very calming and relaxing. The drive in is amazing with the massive homes and the layout of the land. Check it out if you have time. read more

This beach is pretty much the same as all the beaches in the hamptons except that it's more crowded. Most people don't like crowded beaches, but I actually do, I think it's more fun with people watching. I came on a Friday, so I'm assuming Saturday is even more crowded. One thing I can't believe is that you pay $40 and the bathrooms are kept in terrible shape with either no toilet paper or a mess with toilet paper all over the floor. So, 1 star off for that. Really? They keep the beaches much cleaner at Belmar, give me a break this is the hamptons. You can go to Sagg Beach or Mecox beach and the beach looks exactly the same, but it will be a little cheaper and there will be less people. Also, it is ridiculous that this beach is ranked #1 in the USA. I mean, hello? Hawaii?? I can count 3 beaches I've been to in Hawaii that I'd rather go to and I've only been to Ohaou (spelling? lol) on Hawaii so I'm sure there are many others that are great in Hawaii, prob. Florida, Cali, etc etc. Also they say that the reason this beach is ranked so high is the view of the houses, but I thought the houses on the other beaches I mentioned were pretty much the same. read more

Great beach in the Village of Southampton. Always packed during the summer months, so as a local I go early in the season, wait for the crowds to leave and the after Labor Day. I do however get my enjoyment at 6:00am...Nobody there. After 6:00pm rocks as well. Beautiful white sand and crystal clear water makes this one of the finest! read more

Cooper's Beach is a Long Island treasure! Gorgeous, clean, sandy beach with beautiful waves. The Seaside Cafe has a fantastic, upscale menu and everything you could need for a fun day at the beach (toys, sunscreen, t shirts, snacks and ice cream). Recommended for couples as well as families. Not impressed, the beach is nice and clean, parking lot was supposed to be 40 bucks but as was Wednesday nobody was paying bc was a week day. No umbrella for rent or beach chairs so bring your own. No alcohol was serve in the restaurant and no other place to get it. I would suggest to go this other places with bars and beach. If you like a place just to laid and take sun is ok....as some other reviews said is one of the best beaches of America I was expecting the place to Wow me but it didn't happen read more

Who knew New York had such beautiful beaches? I absolutely love this place. It is quiet, serene, and the waves are so much fun to play in. You can't swim unless you're hard core and not scared of a wicked undertow. But you can play in the water and that is good enough. What a lovely setting. I can't wait to go back. read more
