First time at Cooper's Cave and not impressed. Ordered the steak pasta bowl special and buffalo chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The alfredo sauce was a far cry from a creamy, white alfredo. The sauce was separated and there was a pool of oil in the bottom of the bowl and the steak was chewy and a cheap cut of meat. The chicken sandwich was on a plain hamburger roll. Received a respectable amount of fries, but they were cold. The melba sauce was served in a half ounce plastic souffle cup. That is not a typo, an order of fries with 1 tablespoon of melba sauce. I asked for a second and got it quickly, then saw on the check that I was charged an extra 75 cents for a tablespoon. The nickel and diming didn't end there. Upon getting a pint glass half filled with ice, I ordered a refill only to find out upon getting my check that they charged $3 for every refill! We eat out a lot and can't think of a single establishment that doesn't serve free refills on coffee, tea, and soda. They came with a large portion of very yummy dipping sauce. We only had a taste of the "nachos" to save space for our dinner as they gave a pretty large portion. For dinner, I had fish and chips and my husband had the corned beef and cabbage. He absolutely loved his and he can be quite picky! Huge chunks of lean corned beef with ample cabbage, potatoes and carrots. I have to say I was a little disappointed with my fish. The portion was good but not huge and the batter was quite crunchy. I prefer a smooth beer battered fish but the taste was very good. The chips were seasoned fries and delicious. Great cole slaw too. We had to save room for dessert knowing they have a good ice cream selection. We got a sundae with hot fudge and raspberry sauce to share. Very good! My husband wanted to try the bread pudding so ordered one to go. It didn't make it very far once we got home... OMG! The fact that they add a warning label on the container that it is not suitable for children (contains brandy) tells you that you are in for a treat! I went with my good friend JR for lunch. We started out with the Buffalo Chicken Soup.. that was an extremely tasty soup with huge chunks of chicken in a delicious thick broth. We both ordered the fried Cod sandwich and fries. Again top notch taste and cooked to perfection. I tried their blueberry ale which was again very tasty. Our waitress was very good, wish I remembered her name. If you leave a spot for desert, there is an ice cream store attached to the cave. The restaurant was very cozy with outdoor seating available. (The Indoor ambience is tight quarters and less pleasant) 3.5/4 stars for the food: They have a wide variety of pub fare for everyone served hot and fresh at a great price. 0 stars for their beer. We have tried many different ones over the years due to a really great location with family friendly food, we keep coming back and hoping they'll do something about the terrible beer but it never gets better despite calling themselves a brewing company. I do not know anyone that can stomach their beers. They always have a chemical taste like some sort of cleaning solution mixed with mildew. If CCAC rebranded themselves as the Bikeway Eatery and focused on their good food, cocktails, sodas and ice cream this place could be a real gem. read more

I had to "cave" in for my niece and she gets what she wants. Haha I made reservations for my nieces 6th birthday. She specifically asked to come here bc she loved the soda flights. We had a party of 8. The service was great! However I was a little upset about the food. I ordered the Buffalo chicken soup which I love and it's extremely diff from the last time I visit and it was not good at all. But the cheese curds were awesome. Wasn't a fan of the boneless chicken wings (garlic parm) bc they were all butter. But again the service was great and the ambiance was great as well. After seeing the long lines at the Shirt Factory's food truck event, my very hungry (and therefore cranky) husband needed instant gratification. So, I suggested Cooper's Cave Ale Company only a few blocks away. The place was very busy. Good news, as a friend and I had attempted to dine here during the height of the pandemic and found it closed like most Glens Falls dining establishments. The hostess refused to seat the two of us at an open table that could seat four, and our only option was a high top. I dislike high tops immensely and she attempted to put us right next to the noisy kitchen whose opening and closing door would have been a constant irritation. Finally, we were seated at a high top at the far end of the restaurant near a very large table of rather loud diners. Oh well. The menu offers a wide variety of typical tavern food such as burgers, wings, sandwiches, salads and Italian entrées at reasonable prices. My Cosmopolitan (Tito's, as requested) was good ($10). Ditto my husband's local craft beers ($5 each). Their drink prices are a very good value and competitive for the area. We started with Calamari which was presented with a horseradish sauce (option, marinara was also available) - a nice touch. This appetizer was a perfectly-sized portion of tender squid. The Eggplant Parmesan I ordered consisted of two small slices of fried eggplant with a hint of tomato sauce and a dusting of shredded cheese. A very generous portion of linguini accompanied the dish. My husband enjoyed his Taco Salad. Our server, Jasmine (?), was brand new. She was pleasant, helpful, and did a fine job. As did the other gal who worked with her (did not get her name). The main problem I have with this place is their credit card policy. When we got our bill and I presented my VISA for payment, I was advised that there would be a 3.5% service charge. What? When I questioned it, I was told that it's a state of New York policy. Uh, no it isn't. It's bad business as many people use their credit cards to pay at restaurants. We were caught unawares, and didn't have cash on us so we had no choice but to it suck up. It really ticked me off and I dropped my star rating because of this situation. We were also given some small samples of other beers they had on tap. They also have a store where you can purchase bottles, growlers or kegs! What can I say, Cooper's Cave brings back so many family memories. I had to give it 5 stars. In all the years I've been coming to the Cave I've never had a bad experience. It all started with a recommendation from a friend who went whenever she and her family were skiing in the area. Now it's our regular stop off either going to or coming back from the Adirondacks. Which we do at least 2-3 times a year both in the summer and winter. They brew their own beer which pleases the beer lovers in my family and make their own soda which pleases the kids and the kids at heart too. We usually come as a big group so in the summer we sit outside on their covered patio watching the cyclists on the bike path. In the winter we are often seated in a separate front room near the entrance. The regular dining room is shared with the bar and smallish. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. As for the food? It's delicious and the menu has something to please most. Some of my favorites over the years include; taco trios, turkey burgers infused with stout, fried cod sandwiches with cave fries and buffalo chicken soup. On our latest visit I had a taco trio special with marinated spicy cod served with chipotle sauce. The fish was flaky and seasoned well. I chose a house salad as my side with creamy balsamic dressing. My husband had another daily special, chicken and biscuits. He joined the clean plate club as evidence of how much he enjoyed it. My 14 year old son had a black and bleu burger with pasta salad. The burgers are large, juicy and cooked as requested. Others in our party had the southwest salad, a reuben sandwich, a cran walnut chicken salad wrap and for the youngest chicken fingers with cave fries. All were devoured. My brother remarked that he was surprised at the lack of cave fries at the table as we all enjoy sharing each others fries. I guess with warmer weather on the way most of us chose healthier sides. As for the beer, they have everything from lighter ales to IPAs and oatmeal stout. They offer a flight for those who want to try it all. The malty, sweet, winter warmer, Fenimore Froth was a winner on our last visit. A fully stocked bar offers wine and other libations. The soda comes in all kinds of fun flavors. I'm not normally a soda drinker anymore but sometimes enjoy one here. My favorite is the wild cream cherry. Butterbeer and sour green apple are good also and they've recently added spicy ginger beer. As if all of this isn't enough, during the summer they have an outdoor ice cream stand. The hard ice cream is homemade and delicious. The kids meals come with a small scoop and if they are too full they can get a coupon for a future visit. They have a frequent diner club as well. You can earn points toward future meals. The service is always friendly and usually prompt. This last time it was a little slow but it gave us more time to relax and enjoy so I'm not complaining. My dad loved coming here. We got a flight of beer tastings, a flight of soda tastings, a taco salad and a fried seafood platter. Everything was pretty good, but standouts were the fried clams and scallops; the birch beer and ginger ale sodas; and the bluesberry and stout beers ( beers were on the sweet/malty side overall, but these two were nice and balanced with a good grain/malt profile. Stopped in for dinner a few weeks back at Cooper's Cave. They were relatively busy, and it took a few minutes to get seated in the room near the entrance. Overall, a decent experience, but the food underdelivered. Started with the eggplant fries. While good, it was mostly breading that we ate. Served with marinara and a ranch type sauce. For entrees, we shared steak tacos and a blue cheese burger. The tacos were not enjoyable - very basic tacos and the meat left a lot to be desired. A dish that could be done easy (and better) at home. The burger was also underwhelming - ordered medium rare but came out medium well, barely any blue cheese, also added caramelized onions and those were also hard to find. Bun was bad. Overall a poor execution and the slaw was on par with store bought. No issues with the service. Our server was available most of the time, everything came out reasonably quick, and she brought us a pitcher of water after a refill or two. read more

This is a difficult place to rate. The layout is excellent. The pub is great with indoor and outdoor seating. The beer is horrible. No taste to it! The blueberry beer smelled great but no flavor. The flight of sodas was great and a nice addition for non beer drinkers. They have housemade ice cream which they sell in a separate shop but you can't bring in the pub (???). This was a short (15 minutes each way) walk from the Queensbury hotel where we were staying and had a cool display in the lobby so we decided to go for dinner. It's in a great location with plenty of parking and has a restaurant, ice cream section (which is now closed for the season, alas) and beer section. They brew all of their own beers on site and make all of their ice creams on site too. We decided to sit on the deck and had a very nice waiter who was constantly checking on us and helping us out. He was from Massachusetts fairly close to where we are from so it was cool to find a kindred spirit out in New York. The menu is huge. It has some smaller plate choice and plenty of entrees. We went with a pitcher (serves 8 drinks - wow) of their Sagamore Stout and it was very mild and tasty. I'm not usually a huge beer drinker but I enjoyed it. I wanted to try the cream soda but our waiter thought I meant a cocktail and must have thought we were drunks, haha. I guess you couldn't serve that much alcohol at once which is fine with me but I never got to try the soda and it sounded good (they also make their own sodas on site). For meals, I went with the pot roast. Amazing. Delicious. Huge. Great fresh veggies and then just a pile of pot roast with a scrumptious gravy. Ate every bite. No regrets. My dining partner got the pecan and maple mustard encrusted salmon. He loved the maple and pecan flavor but found the salmon otherwise a bit too dry and boring. He also ate all of it so it wasn't too boring to eat, of course. His came with the same veggies and he also enjoyed them. For dessert, we went with Patty's cake which is named after the owner. It was good - vanilla and chocolate cake with chocolate in the middle. For the price, it was an amazing and tasty value. We went back the next night to try the ice cream. That line was long and incredibly slow moving. They had one window open for a line of at least 12 people. I don't think I'd wait in line again for that ice cream. While I was waiting in line, my partner went over and got a blueberry beer and a blueberry cocktail (I forget the name) for me. He also bought a bag of their (what else!) on site made pretzels which we are still eating and loving. The ice cream was only so so. They had a huge list of soft serve flavors but you have to wait til you get to the window to see the list as it's on paper and with social distancing in place you can't just wander up and stand there to look. For hard ice cream, that's posted and had some interesting flavors. I went with pumpkin (hard) since they were out of my first choice. It was really not good. For soft serve, I tried blueberry muffin and it was tasty. Overpriced though for what we got. We did enjoy sitting outside with the drinks and ice cream and just relaxing. The husband and I stopped in for lunch recently. We were seated on the patio, and greeted promptly. We ordered a couple of beers and perused the menu. My husband got a lobster club and I got a Sagamore Street with grilled chicken. My husband's sandwich was good, nothing exceptional but tasty but my sandwich was outstanding. The beer, however was quite disappointing. For a brewery, the beer was underwhelming. I ordered the tavern ale and it had an odd underlying flavor. I would definitely go back for food, but probably pass on the beer. Next time I would be sure to try the ice cream. read more

While I'm not an expert on beer, I have been to Coopers Cave several times and have tried a few of their hand crafted beers -they are all delicious. I especially liked the Raspberry Wheat and Bluesberry Ale.A friend of mine (a self proclaimed beer expert) really liked the darker beers, so as a gift I bought him an assortment at the store next door to the restaurant. Regarding the food - everything that I have tasted has been fresh and delicious. They have healthy options and my first meal there was a wonderful salad. They also make homemade soda (sweet and delicious - kids love the "butter beer") AND ice cream! I tried the pumpkin spice ice cream last week and it's absolutely delicious. The owner is a quirky, outspoken funny lady. The service is always friendly, helpful and attentive. I also noticed that it's EXTREMELY clean...which is always a bonus. :) read more

We seem to have been visiting a number of places in Glens Falls recently and my wife had a craving. Unfortunately, as we parked right in front of her chosen place we became suspicious about the proximity of such an excellent parking space. The hours on the front door confirmed our suspicion by indicating that the restaurant was closed on Sundays. A nearby place that we hadn't been to in a number of years was our next thought. Cooper's Cave brews their own beer and the reason we hadn't been there in such a number of years is because our recollection of the experience was simply average or even below. But with the growth in the number of craft brewers over those years, we decided it was only fair to see if our opinion would change. We were early enough that we had our choice of sitting indoors or on the covered patio. The weather outside was too inviting this day to ignore it. We were further delighted upon seeing twelve different house made brews being offered. The menu also offered the option of a flight of six 5 oz. samples for $10. My quick mathematical mind divided 12 brews by 2 thirsty people and realized that it was a whole number equal to the number of thirsty people. So be it! We ordered two flights covering one of each brew. As we started into sharing the flights we questioned if this had been a good idea. Isn't 12 samples X 5 oz. equal to 60 oz. (or four ounces short of a half-gallon)? Who is driving? At any rate, this is certainly a good value. To accompany the beverage part of our repast my wife chose the Falafel Tacos ($12.99) while I went with a Turkey Burger ($11.99) since they said they made their on burgers in-house. While my wife would have preferred the tacos to have been made with corn tortillas instead of wheat, we both agreed that the falafel was really good - both texture and flavor wise. My Turkey burger was good also. The turkey had been infused with their Sagamore Stout and cranberries; it was then topped with cheddar and maple-mustard aioli. The bun was described as a Le Bus bakery roll which meant nothing to me so I Googled it. Turns out Le Bus bakery is a popular bakery in Philadelphia. Who knew? As Utah Phillips would have said, "it was good though!" By now you might be wondering how we made out with all that beer. Well, that was actually the low point of our experience again. For our tastes, and I emphasize that phrase, we found the beers to be lacking in the hoped for flavors and body that we expected from each style of brewing. Remember the old Ballantine beer logo with the 3-ring sign - purity - body - flavor? Well even Meat Loaf required Two Out Of Three to be Ain't Bad. Only one of the two IPAs and the Stout were just passable. Their Kolsch would be good for the Bud Light drinkers. But let's not leave Cooper's Cave on a low note. We had a really great server, Lizzie 2, who was happy to be engaged in conversation with us, and who steered us to the fact that Cooper's Cave also makes their own ice cream. And this would be worth coming back for. You don't even have to come into the restaurant if that's all you want. There is a walk-up window outside near the patio. I counted 26 flavors on the menu. I had a scoop of the Mocha Cookie Crunch along with a scoop of their Rum Raisin ($4). Both were excellent. My wife went along with Lizzie's recommendation of a slice of one of their ice cream cakes - The Mexican ($5), a layer each of chocolate and vanilla, with crushed Oreos, hot fudge, and peanut butter. They even add real frosting to the outer edges of the ice cream cake. It's the ice cream that earned that extra half-star rating. How about instituting ice cream flights? I wasn't expecting much from this place, I just assumed the food would be average but I was very pleasantly surprised! I ordered the Sagamore street which was chicken breast on a bun with roasted red peppers, feta and garlic aioli and a side of fries. It was absolutely delicious! My husband built his own burger also which he thoroughly enjoyed. We also ordered boneless chicken wings and the soft pretzels as an appetizer. These portions were generous and very much shareable, and super tasty as well. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try the beer so I can't comment on that. We visited recently during COVID and the staff seemed to be taking proper precautions to make sure everything remained clean, and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. After dinner, we walked to the window next door and tried the ice cream. They have over 50 flavors of soft serve! I tried the black raspberry and toasted coconut and it was to die for! I wasn't sure what to expect when selecting multiple flavors - I thought they would layer or swirl it..but they must've been combined? I'm not sure really - but definitely something I wish I had known prior and am glad I know now, because my flavor selections may differ due to that. We had a yummy lunch at Coopers. There were 6 of us and we all loved our food, which consisted of various wraps, salads, and a burger. The only thing we weren't big fans of was their soda. We ordered various flavors but felt they were either tasteless (diet root beer) or medicinal tasting (diet orange). The service was amazing, as was the food, thus a solid 4 star rating.
