Very helpful with information on the area and extremely accommodating. It's a bed and breakfast but unfortunately with nonstop baseball going on, we never had the opportunity to eat breakfast. Searching the internet I found Cobblescote on the Lake. It was just what I was looking for. An old school kind of place with character that represented the area. During our week's vacation we had stayed in a few modern chain hotels and were super pleased to find a place such as this that was the total opposite. Right on Lake Otsego in a picturesque setting among the woods. As we drove up both of us were blown away. This place was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting he did for the Saturday Evening Post back in the day. Pure Americana from a time that relects our grandparents era of when vacationing upstate and in the Catskills was a big thing. The building itself and the rustic decor reminds me of a hunting and fishing lodge. American flags, wood everywhere, log furniture, hunting/fishing instruments on the walls, checkers game on the table, all types of outdoorsy articles and sporting things placed around, an amazing view overlooking the lake, and the most wonderful outdoor deck to enjoy it on. We were greeted by the owner, Peter, and he gave us a quick tour of the place. There are spacious grounds with gas grills and picnic tables, a beach area for swimming, fishing, boating or just relaxing right on the lake. They also will provide fishing gear for guests. I saw a canoe, pedal boat and kayaks that can be used free of charge. You can even get boat tours and fishing charters here. There is a free laundry room on site which is great if you're there with kids and cleaning some clothes is a must. Also some foosball, pinball and other games to occupy some time. Every morning a full complimentary breakfast is provided to all guests. All the rooms are newly refurbished with private baths and Adirondack décor. Cable TV in all rooms and free wifi throughout. AC units in the rooms too, but it can actually get cool enough at night so that you don't need it. Plus, they are located just 4 miles from Cooperstown, 4 miles from the Glimmerglass Festival, and 9 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park so everything is a quick drive. Reasonable room rates for all this make it a terrific deal. I have to say the rooms are well kept, clean, and very cozy. Peter is a very attentive and affable resort owner who cares about his guests and makes sure they have everything needed for a great stay. One of the highlights for me was just getting up early each morning to have a hot cup of coffee on the deck while watching the sunrise over the lake. So relaxing and peaceful. At night we sat out there under a blanket and drank wine. Another was the option of a home cooked meal here on a Saturday night on the deck prepared by Peter and his friendly staff. Shrimp cocktail, crab and corn chowder, char broiled delmonico steak, and dessert. Delicious meal. (Extra charge for this but so worth the price.) Oh, can't forget that yummy breakfast quiche and fresh fruits the next day before we had to sadly head home. Overall, just a wonderful place and one of the best spots we stayed at during our vacation. Great memories. If you're looking for a more simpler place to rest your head at that brings you back to a time when upstate resort vacations were big then you should experience Cobblescote. Rooms clean, well-appointed and we were lucky enough to get one with a view :) Genevieve offered a wonderful breakfast each morning and the view from the open-air deck could not be beat! Great way to start each day. Plenty of amenities offered for couples or families: games, kayaks, paddle boat, bbq, fridge, microwave, laundry facility, to name just a few. First, this place is breathtaking, the lake itself is just amazing to look at with its blue-green color. There are acres of trails to walk, and because of the time of year it's so nice to be in nature. Secondly, the cabins are made of cedar, so they keep an okay amount of isolation in the cold, but these are not heated cabins so bundle up when you go to bed. The cabins are really nice on the outside as well as the inside; you do have to bring your own bedding for them considering this is a campground after all. Thirdly, there is a section here for RV's if you don't prefer pitching a tent or using the cabins. Also, they have a bunch of nice rooms in the hotel sections, which are neat, and spacious. Living in Atlanta definitely has a lot to do with the gap in visiting, but in modern times, that's no real excuse. The reason for my latest visit was the death of my Mom. Her wishes were to be buried nearby in Utica, and that all of our family was to have a celebration of her life at The Chalet. Well, as anyone that deals with family knows, that often things go awry that make circumstances like a "funeral party" tough. The owners Mike and Christine went the extra ten miles to make sure our Mom's party went off without a hitch. There are no words of thanks enough to cover what they did for us in such a short amount of time. The property is spotless, well-thought-out and quaint, but perfect for a small outing with perfect backdrop. The lake is picturesque, and the camping spots are shaded with a very family-oriented feel to the overall property which make the perfect setting for our visit this go'round. Yeah, they can't control the weather, but whomever made the call to the man upstairs, made one helluva perfect scene for my Mother's life celebration. I'm sure that my only visits to Lake Chalet will involve visiting my Mom's burial site in Utica in the future, but it's nice to know that places like this exist. With people like Mike and Christine around, it's safe to say that anyone that visits here will be well taken care of in the best way possible. 10/10.
