There's "quaint," and there's "old." This was more the latter. Wallpaper peeling off the switch in the bathroom, trim in need of paint. Wires seemingly everywhere. Outside needs a paint job (we visited in June, so winter weather was no excuse.). Business office in the kitchen was a mess. Open storage spaces/closets fiilled with old stuff. Great food can make or break a B&B, and it was so disappointing (cold, stale pancakes, cold sausage, unripe fruit) that we went elsewhere for breakfast the second day. People were nice, location was good, but we thought it was overpriced for the quality. read more

Cute B&B, Ed is so nice!! Its fine for a couple of nights. Not fancy, you feel like you are at your grannies house. We stayed in the cottage, our room you entered through the bathroom which we found funny. Bed was comfy. My husband had breakfast and he said it was very tasty! Parking is a little tight but fine. Great location, everything is within walking distance which is a plus. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed for a night in February. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They even helped with a last minute reservation change without any trouble. The Inn has a ton of character. Our room was clean and comfortable. My boyfriend and I are tall and we did hit our heads on the slanted ceiling several times but that wouldn't keep from staying there again! The Inn is in a great location. It's a short walk to shops, restaurants and the hall of fame. Breakfast was delicious and coffee and tea are available all day. We had booked last minute to stay in cooperstown and had really wanted to stay at the hotel by the lake but it was already full. We then tried a couple other bed and breakfast that were booked, one of those recommended The White House Inn. When we arrived I was skeptical, we weren't staying in the house but around the block in another house, which turned out to be perfect!!! It was an upstairs apartment with a kitchen living room, bedroom and private bathroom. There was a coffee stain in the bedroom but the lady who brought us in immediately pointed it out and apologized and said the carpet cleaners hadn't been in yet, I can live with that!! The rest of the apartment was clean and the bathroom was updated for the age of the house! We only stayed one night but the bed was very comfortable and when we came back from a long day of walking and sightseeing, coming into the apartment at night with the lamps lit, it was very charming!! Oh and bonus, out front there is a sign in the yard that said watch for deer and fawn crossing, we thought it was a joke, but sure enough there was a deer standing in the front yard when we came back that evening!! read more

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our stay at the White House Inn, and if we are ever back, we will definitely be staying here again. The Inn is charming inside and out with several staircases, winding hallways, nooks, and crannies. Our room, "the green room" was perfect with high end furnishings that you would see in a five star hotel and a little fireplace. The entire staff make you feel at home as soon as you step into the inn. They treat you as if you are family finally making time to visit. The breakfast was also outstanding! If White House Inn was a restaurant, I would be eating there every weekend. Over the three days, we had a first course of baked apples and fresh pineapple, both a real treat. We were then served mini muffins: cherry, cinnamon, and orange cranberry. Our main course ranged from eggs benedict to lemon pancakes with triple berry sauce to baked French toast depending on the day Juice and coffee flowed freely, and everyone sitting around the breakfast table had wonderful conversation between bites of delicious food. The Inn is located within a short walking distance from downtown Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame. You can also walk to the lake from downtown and enjoy the picturesque view. Because my boyfriend loves baseball, we will surely be visiting Cooperstown again. And, we will be staying at the White House Inn. Note - If you do stay here, be sure to check out the Inn's Hall of Fame located on wall next to the first floor staircase. I stayed here back in October the night before an interview. Cooperstown was extremely beautiful/pleasant this time of year with the fall foliage and harvest related events. I was extremely impressed when I first arrived at the inn. To be honest I don't have many experiences with bed and breakfast inns but I was immediately charmed by this place. I was welcomed by a very pleasant young lady who was the inn-keep that evening. I believe I stayed in the "red room." The room was beautiful with a very large king size bed. Everything very clean. There was a small maybe 32' flatscreen T.V. w basic cable provided as well. The room is decorated with old books which gave it a cool feel - although none of the books looked like very interesting reads. The private bathroom was 5 star hotel quality, cleanly kept, with soft towels and all of the basic toiletries provided. Although you have an entirely private room and bathroom, there is also a shared common area with the adjacent room on the 2nd level - however I did not use this space during my stay. A standard American breakfast was provided downstairs with fruits, scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, English muffins, and I believe I also had a slice of pound cake. This was all cooked and served by a pleasant gentleman at about 7am although he may have been cooking earlier before I got down there. The very few negatives about this place were: floor creaked a lot when walking on it -- to be expected for an older structure, but also adds to the antiquated charm of the inn. The bed frame squeaked a lot even with very subtle movements and I found this a little bit annoying as I fell asleep. I would definitely recommend to others especially couples of any age group looking to enjoy a charming night and morning within a quiet but fun little town in upstate New York. If I return to Cooperstown I am highly likely to stay at this place again. read more

This was a cute B&B in the middle of nowhere. I'm not 100% sure of the set up, we had a private room ("Blue"), a full bedroom and only shower in the bathroom (no tub) in our room. The breakfast is served "family style," you sit at the large table with a group you may or may not know. AS an introvert, that's usually a nightmare for me. But we met some really nice people. Most of them were visiting the Hall of Fame (short walk) and the Ommegang Brewery, a short drive away. We got a nice rate for the winter time - literally next to nothing is open during the winter. Except for the Brewery, HOF and small shops. We ate at some of the same places because several places were closed. Anyway, the owner was a nice gentleman who regaled us with stories of housing HOF players' families. Also several guests, including ballplayers, have signed the front hallway. I'd definitely stay here again, I'd just come in between the winter and induction ceremony time. When there are lots of people there! read more

Stayed here at the tail end of a road trip, wished I stayed longer. Me and my wife stayed in the Carriage house its was spacious and very comfortable. Walking distance from main st, shops. HOF. Quick drive to Erie Canal cruises which I highly reccomend. Breakfast was great, along with the company. yes, I made it to the White House - ahead of schedule, under budget, and with HIGH ENERGY. we've got the best references, don't we, folks? my first time staying at a B&B was a total blast. the White House is well-maintained, and owner Ed and his staff are so friendly, outgoing, respectful and helpful. learned a lot about the history of Cooperstown from Ed, and the breakfast and coffee were delicious both mornings. good thing I did a lot of walking during my trip! I'm an extrovert so I enjoyed having breakfast with total strangers and talking to them, but I also enjoyed being able to head to my room at night and get some reading done in peace and quiet. I stayed in the Blue Room, upstairs in the main house. large, comfortable bed, a shower/bathroom, reading chairs, a desk, a TV, and even a really good wifi connection. toiletries were provided, as well as towels of every size and even robes. yes, there was plenty of snow outside but the house was always warm and cozy. I actually popped open my window at one point to cool the room down a bit. the White House Inn is walking distance to plenty of restaurants, shopping, and of course the Baseball Hall of Fame. the pricing was pretty fair, I felt, for the convenience and location and of course being able to say that I was in the White House. My wife and I came here this week on our honeymoon. The White House Inn was better than imagined. Cozy, comfortable, and quiet set back off the street here in Cooperstown. The Inn is walking distance from the Hall of Fame which made for great walking trips throughout the day. I'd recommend staying in the Carriage House behind the main inn if you're looking for extra privacy and serenity. Family style breakfasts each morning prepared by the warm and caring staff was top notch and a nice touch, especially if you're looking to save money by not eating out every meal. Overall, this was one of the best little inns/b&b's I've been to and I cannot recommend this place enough. We will definitely come back! read more

What a pleasant surprise! We were apprehensive about the whole B&B experience but we loved our room (Red) and the breakfast was fantastic each morning of our stay. I don't typically eat waffles or pancakes and thoroughly enjoyed both! We meant to ask what coffee they serve because it was to die for! I have been making an annual trip to Cooperstown (5 years thus far) and have been staying at the White House Inn. The Innkeepers (Ed and Margie) along with the staff (Patty, Mary and Nicole) are very friendly and accomodating. Very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Ed's pumpkin pancakes with natural maple syrup are very special. Location is great, walking distance to the entire downtown area. There is a sign on the door "Enter as strangers, Leave as friends". That sign tells it all. The Inn is very clean and comfy. There is no other place to stay. I always stay in the Red Room above the kitchen. The White House Inn of Cooperstown NY is warm and cozy. From the moment you walk through the door you are met with sweet smells of home baked goodies, and if you are lucky enough to be there in the winter, the fireplace in the common area is beautifully lit and begging for you to come and relax in front of the fire. Our room, on the second floor has a king size bed that my husband and I melted into. If the ambiance and the abundant scrumptious breakfast is not enough to entice you to book a room immediately, your hosts at the White House Inn will win you over. This trip was a surprise for my husband, who had no idea where he was flying for his birthday until the morning of the flight, nor did he know his brother was going to surprise him in Cooperstown. All of the planning was so secretive that I requested many things of our hosts...my husband was not to know a thing. Not only were they on board with the whole surprise thing, they made sure the staff knew not to say a word about his brother showing up. Champagne glasses were waiting for a toast; wine I requested was in my room, along with chocolate covered strawberries (an added treat from the hosts). The look on my husband's face when his brother and sister-in-law arrived, priceless. I won't stay anywhere else when visiting Cooperstown, and if you are smart...you won't either. read more
