We had an amazing experience with the front desk staff. We arrived cold and frazzled and they welcomed us and put us at ease. Our room was huge and had a beautiful view of the lake. It snowed and they had someone out in the parking lot scraping cars! We would have been stuck without that nice touch. We decided to celebrate our anniversary at The Otesaga, and we certainly made a great decision. From the moment we entered the grand resort until we checked out, everything was amazing. Our room was ready when we arrived and it was spectacular with a beautiful view of the lake and the golf course. We took advantage of the complimentary historic tour and enjoyed it, Sarah was our guide and she was wonderful. We played a round of bingo and won a bottle of wine. We also enjoyed the complimentary wine tasting in the lobby with some other guests. We ate at the Hawkeye Grill on the first night of our stay and at 1909 on the second night. Both dining experiences exceeded our expectations. The staff go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. Our waiter at 1909, Clayton, was super professional and provided top-notch service. Brian, the manager was also fantastic. Dawn, the concierge was super friendly and had a knack of making you feel like a life-long buddy. Every staff member we met was amazing and we can't wait to visit this magical resort again soon. read more

I had a 2 night stay in the Grand Lake Suite. I have been to Cooperstown several times, the 1st being 50 years ago in 1974 with my father. I always wanted to stay in the resort where the Hall Of Fame ballplayers stayed during Induction Weekend, but never did until now. This is an older, magnificent building. I was able to check in early and the front desk people couldn't have been nicer. I was given a brief intro to the hotel features and then it was off to my suite. Better than the pictures I had seen. The suite was bigger than a couple of Manhattan apartments I lived in back in the day. It was very spacious, with amazing views of Otsego Lake. The King Bed was very comfortable, as was the Otesaga bathrobe hanging in the closet for my use. It was a great stay. I only hope someone like Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle stayed in the same suite when they were inducted. And that's the beauty of this resort hotel. Even when you're a senior citizen like me, it still has the ability to turn you back into the 9 year old boy who fell in love with Baseball. read more

Beautiful hotel , terrible welcome. The receptionist Hazel was awful!! Very rude , full of attitude, didn't explain the amenities, just handed us the key to the room. When we asked about their restaurant she looked us up & down and remarked that it was fine dining and it was not for us. I guess our appearance judge us unworthy. She made the hotel most unappealing despite the views. When we sent a complaint no one responded. They must desperately need help to put up with such an employee . Shame on you Hazel! read more

So I would like to start off by saying this hotel isn't a 5 star hotel, the room was small, you could hear through the thin walls, the pool was a bit of a walk to get to, the parking lot was a hike to get to, the elevators were slow. But I would book this hotel in a heart beat again. The porch is the single greatest porch on the east coast. We went to the local liquor store and bought bottles of wine to drink on this porch all day and night at every change we can get. They did have service on the porch, but we figured we could save money. We also want to say the activities that the hotel had while we were there that weekend, was A++. And my wife the woman that she is wanted to make sure we took advantage of everything, first the managers celebration on the porch, felt like a wedding, drink, pass arounds, cheese table, shrimp table, open bar. Fantastic. But the single greatest highlight of this trip and something so simple, was Bingo night. First Marco and Matte were amazing! They made this such a memorable weekend. The laughs we shared on that night of bingo were special. Overall all the service from the hotel was spot on. I think a valet would really benefit the hotel, I would also suggest find a route from getting from the hotel to the pool without this huge walk around. don't look anywhere else, book this hotel. It's a nice place and in good shape for a 115 year old building. I wish our $800 per night room had a comfortable chair. The Hobbit couch was too small for my 5'11" body, and not particularly comfortable for my 5'5" wife. Plenty of floor space for more chairs. Needs new carpets too. The view is spectacular and the food is pretty good. And oh yeah, the creepy way every worker had to interrupt us to say "hello!" was just weird. This is not the 1950s. read more

Stayed here for a couple of nights for a socially distanced meeting with vaccinated colleagues. The staff was outstanding ensuring safety measures were followed. The conference rooms were perfect for our small gathering. Internet access and speed met our group needs. The view from the deck is gorgeous- so serene and peaceful. The golf course looks pristine and what a view! The rooms were clean and comfortable- could use some updating but it was fine. I hope they recover from the pandemic- the place was pretty empty but we didn't mind at all! I would definitely stay here again and next time I'll bring my golf clubs! read more

What a lovely hotel! The structure and the exterior are in really nice shape. The interior is spacious, in good shape, and has outstanding draperies, carpeting, and interior decoration, like moldings and paint. I'm ruined, in a good way. I LOOOOOVED it here! So close to the lovely Otsego Lake, for nice walks in the morning, and nice views from the porch. Plenty of parking! Restaurants on site. Can get breakfast as an option added to your room. COVID protocols were top flight. Sneeze guards at the desk. They took our temp when we checked in. I guess they figure it's a closed environment, so they don't check every day or when you go in and out. They also do not have housekeeping service until you check out, so no bed making or room cleaning the duration of your stay. A bit of a walk into town, but I'm spoiled (I've stayed just off Main Street in the past lol). We got a special for Fenimore Art Museum access (it was very good). Driving distance to Fenimore or Farmers Museum. I didn't use the good course. We ate breakfast on site every day. Though I live in the city and don't like indoor dining yet, I felt safe in this place. Also, they have a set up for coffee to go...which used to be self-service but is not anymore! (Evidenced by the picture haha) One tip I'd like to make to the Otesaga: I'd love to see list of Hall of Famers and the rooms they've stayed in. That would be so interesting! No fridge in the room. But they do have disposable ice buckets, and I brought bottled water and booze (!!) and kept it on ice. Comfy beds! I stayed in a king. Whenever I visit Cooperstown, I get sad because I never know the next time I'll be able to go. I do know the next time, I'll be staying here! read more

This is the elite hotel in Cooperstown, NY. The only time I've visited Cooperstown prior to my most recent stay is National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction weekend in which the hotel is reserved for the HOF and not available. In 2021, I was able to visit and stay and wow, I see why it's elite. This is a vintage, historic hotel and resort. Classic amenities and services of the early 20th century if not earlier. Classic large common spaces, vintage rooms, historic dining, antique furniture, art-decorated walls, the whole bit. The price is steep I'm not going to lie. $500 or more a night for the privilege which may vary depending upon the season. That includes a fully outfitted smash breakfast buffet (see my review for Glimmerglass). Of course, with the price, comes luxurious rooms, World Class customer service, easy and plentiful parking, and a wonderful outside area to sit near the Otsego Lake (yes, a different spelling than the hotel), including a pier for swimming and other water sports. What I leveraged this for was location. On Blackbird Bay at the south end of Otsego Lake, what a great place to relax on the porch in the mild weather. There were several private events outside in the mild summer evenings, or during the day, with baseball being the theme of the town, games of catch or makeshift baseball games among the youngest residents. Of course, it is just a few blocks from Main Street where all the attractions (shops, restaurants, and of course the Baseball Hall of Fame) where walking distance was key. I parked my car from the airport and had no need to move it. They do have lots of ability for private functions, in the bar and restaurants, outside space between the hotel and lake, all of it. I should mention there is a golf course near the grounds, while I don't play golf myself it might be of attraction to some if not many visitors. The queen bedroom was well outfitted, and certainly a little small but not cramped. More than met the need with fine linens and all amenities one would need. If this sort of hotel is what you're looking for, I would highly recommend. If you are interested in something more budget or practical, this might not be the price point your looking for. read more

Bad Business: As a frequent flyer for both business and pleasure, I am used to cancellation policies and making sure that you provide the hotel with enough time to adjust. However, this supposed high end resort property which to me should also come with high end customer service, is unwilling to allow me to change my reservation when there is a snowstorm due with over a foot of snow due to my home area and I cannot travel. I wasn't trying to cancel my reservation which is a week out, just move my "pre-paid" date of arrival to another date where the bad weather may not be an issue. This is an "act of God" and out of my control yet they are firm in their "use it or lose it" mentality. Guess they do not need nor care about my business..... read more

We got to stay here for a wedding last month and it's a wonderful hotel! The service was great and the room was very nice. The bed was comfortable, the shower water pressure was good, and it's in a great location in town. The breakfast buffet was also fantastic and they had everything you could want. The dinner for the wedding was also very good and it's just a lovely place overall. I lived for a year in Coop and it's the nicest hotel overall in town. Enjoy staying here! read more

My family came to Cooperstown during spring break at the end of March 2021. Truthfully, Cooperstown is kind of "dead" during this time period, which is fine by me, because the Hall of Fame was open, and a few spots in town were open too. The hotel had a fantastic rate for two nights and I felt like they treated us very, very well from the moment we checked in, until leaving. At first, I didn't think anybody else was staying at the hotel. It seemed like we had the place to ourselves the first night. I was expecting to see Jack Nicholson come around the corner and say "here's Johnny" and maybe those twin girls in one of the empty hallways, but I'm exaggerating. Our room was on the second floor, not really the greatest view, but that doesn't bug me. I don't go to hotels to stare out the windows, I got to have a place to sleep & relax. The room was huge, super high ceilings, big bathroom, big walk-in closet, and nice comfortable beds. No fridge in the room, but plenty of ice & buckets available. The grounds are immaculate and its so nice being right on the lake and next to the golf course. The back of the hotel has a huge seating area that you can just sit down in a rocking chair and enjoy the view. The lobby area of the hotel is also very cavernous and it's a great place to relax with a cup of coffee or tea. Breakfast was included with our rate, and I must say, they did a darn good job with the breakfast offerings. My kids loved the pancakes & waffles, and my wife and I enjoyed the other standard breakfast staples, but it's also nice to be able to get fruit, like grapefruit, to enjoy with breakfast. The coffee was also flowing nicely and it tasted great. I can imagine that this is the go to place for anybody coming to either visit or being inducted into the hall of fame and deservedly so. I would certainly recommend this hotel as the top spot, by far, in Cooperstown to bring yourself and a family. read more

We stayed one night for my nephew's reception. Old school hospitality. Rooms are older but still have some of the modern upgrades you expect when paying premium prices. This place is set on the lake in Cooperstown. Very easy to get to the hall of fame. We were there for a brunch reception. Coffee was hot and plentiful. The staff is old-school set up: hostess, porter, bus, waitress. Dressed in those positions as well. I currently walk with assistance of canes. It was a buffet. My wife has been fixing my plate and then getting back in line for herself. Today, Jordan was her helper and mine! Jordan fixed my plate, as well as salt and peppering. Then, he took my plate over to my table and made sure we had everything. Thank you, Jordan, as its been a few months since my wife could eat with me because I could carry something. read more

The building was nice and the suite was very comfortable but we came here for our mini-moon and the front desk staff/concierge failed to mention the spa renovations or help facilitate booking a massage. We also unfortunately did not receive the champagne we ordered and the staff did not offer to comp us anything to make up for this, just to rectify the bill and gave us 2 free mugs. We would not recommend staying here and caution others to carefully review their invoice... read more

Brought my boyfriend and son to the resort hotel with beautiful views of the lake to experience the town and tour the National baseball hall of fame. The boyfriend stated he's been waiting 58 years to visit Cooperstown and tour the hall. As a 30 year season ticket holder for the Cincinnati Reds franchise and a lifelong fan I wasn't surprised that this trip was high on his to do list. We were notified via text that our two rooms were ready and we had no problems getting checked in. They follow all Covid protocols including taking everyone in our groups temperature upon arrival. We had rooms on the second floor. They were all sealed and we found them to be lovely on the inside. Since I travel a lot comfortable beds are a must and these didn't disappoint us. We loved our rooms, cute bathrooms with plush towels, and the views from our windows. I would stay here again and I would want to check out more of their amenities such as sitting on the back porch looking at the river and dining at one of their restaurants. Unfortunately, it was too cold in early April to enjoy sitting in a rocking chair. read more

Look, it's a beautiful, old, historically significant edifice that sits on the very edge of a beautiful lake AND golf course in the rolling mountains of upstate New York! What could go wrong with that? Absurd pricing and semi-surly staff, that's what. First of all, we were put into a handicap room without being told or asked if that was OK. It was late in the day when we checked in so I decided not to ask for another room and to have to move our stuff. Secondly, the room is $700 per night with no view to either the lake or the golf course. And lastly, the in-room coffee maker only had two pods of coffee so after drinking those I went down to the lobby to get more with our own insulated cups (yea, I guess that could be considered a bit anal) and discovered no coffee station. I asked the bellman if there was one he replied "You have to pay, sir." And pointed to a little coffee shop. So I had to stand in a 5 deep line while people ordered lattes and espressos and wait for one of those surly staffers I mentioned to pour the coffee into my cups. She really didn't want to be there. In sum, over priced and under serviced. But these are hard times to find good help and I really do understand that but I also understand that they can be trained to be friendly, even if it's a ruse. read more

This place is amazing! I was here on a solo overnight trip to check out the Hall of Fame, and I was able to snag a cute room in here. For no reason at all, they upgraded me to a lake view room -- BOOM. Their breakfast spread is to die for. I kept eating and wanting to try everything far after I was already full. If the weather permits, it's only a five minute walk to Main Street. The entire hotel is immaculate and very clean, and the staff was attentive and respectful. I can't recommend this place enough, and I definitely would like to come back here on a future trip through Cooperstown. read more

Shakedown in Cooperstown The hotel is nicely located,well appointed...but difficult in all respects. My 5th floor room required me to take elevator to 4th floor and then walk 15 steps into the attic to reach the room. We booked two rooms under the same last name. With breakfast included in the $400 rate - we were treated like we were stealing breakfast every morning - as the host was terribly confused each day even though it was clear on his listing two different rooms. With a great fire pit for 20 or so folks - regardless of the guests enjoyment - it's lights out , everyone go home! Greed seems to abound at this hotel. Prior to arriving for a 3 night stay we called to shift the reservations forward one day arrival and departure. Confusion again, and they demanded we pay an early departure fee of 150% of daily rate = 564$..... No manager was willing to speak and we dealt with Michelle the front desk person. Any attempt to explain was simply laughed off. Knowing we had flights to catch she would go behind the curtain and then reappear with greedy responses...but no manager was there? I would never stay at this hotel if I were you. read more

We arrive at the Hotel and we're greeted by the Bellman. As we checked in for our two night stay we were informed that all of the "'on sight " dinning options would be closed during our stay. No prior notice was given. Our room 224 was directly out of the elevator and we got to hear each and ever guest come and go as elevator bell rang each time. The staff was less than helpful and poorly informed. This just happens to be the only show in town and you can tell there is no competition for the guests dollars. If I could give this place NEGATIVE stars, I would. I am not one to leave reviews but this deserves to be heard. Had booked a two night stay at this "resort", if you can even call it that. Was going for my husband's birthday with our one year old daughter, ordered the dessert add-ons and all to make it extra special. On the FIVE hour drive up to this nightmare from New York City after work, on a Friday, in rush hour traffic, our car started to overheat, pulled over on the side of the road, right before the Lincoln Tunnel, finally after waiting almost an hour we turned the car on and decided we cannot drive this far with our car in this condition, we called the "resort" -- no refunds "nothing we can do." (I'm sure your hotel was overflowing with people trying to book a room on a random Friday night). Saturday afternoon, we arrive at the hotel, front desk receptionist RUDE and uninviting, get to the room - all of the add-on desserts look like they have been sitting out since the day before (which I'm sure they have) not to mention the LOUD creaky floors and doors, and cracks in the walls. Then come to Sunday morning, the bill, An EXTRA $120.00 charge ADDED ON to the $500.00 Friday night we were unable to make it. If you are ever thinking of staying here, DON'T. read more

What a great spot!!! The hotel is a beautiful grand hotel sitting directly on the lake. Our room (2B) was actually a two bedroom suite which was absolutely great. Clean, comfortable beds and excellent air conditioning (not always the case in older hotels). The grounds are impeccably maintained and the valet/bell staff are the best I've encountered anywhere!!!! Very nice resort. It was more of an old vibe inside and out. We stayed 4th of July but they did not have fireworks. You could however see the fireworks across the lake. The lake was beautiful. The pool was a bit cold but nice. The service was wonderful. They squeezed us in at the restaurant for dinner. Everyone was so nice. On the 4th they had free drinks and apps for people staying at the resort. I've never seen this before. And the drinks were any drink you wanted. Also we got free breakfast and this was no continental breakfast. They had omelet station, fresh juice, waffles, pancakes cooked right there. The food was amazing. Location is very close to the hall of fame which is nice. The only down fall was we found someone else's shoes under the bed and deodorant in the bathroom. read more
