We took our kitty (Monkey) into Copeland as an emergency. We met Dr. Baker. Dr. Baker is a wonderful vet. Our Monkey has heart disease as well as IBD. We just lost his brother to Congestive Heart Failure and were sick that we were going to lose Monkey as well. We started out with baby steps, which did not work. Dr. Baker performed surgery and removed a lymph node which was attached to his intestines. Monkey is on a lot of medicine but is getting back to "His" normal. He plays, does not have diarrhea, has gained weight, etc. We thank Dr. Baker every day we have with our Monkey!! After many experiences, the last the most "interesting" I changed my opinion of this clinic and it would be a last resort for us (if something was available in Hawaii, we would go there first). We took an older male dog in and were concerned about a potential thyroid tumor. The vet we saw wanted to know if he had eaten that morning because he wanted to give the dog general anesthesia and clean his teeth, NO, I am not kidding. Lost 3 pets in as many years using this place because my normal vet was closed. The staff is friendly but way too concerned about how much you're willing to pay versus the the care they can provide. Two weeks ago, had to rush my 7 year old cat in due to difficult breathing. The very first thing that they wanted to do was put him down. Then he suddenly died when we told them to help him. All the while quoting prices for their services. Personally i would have paid any amount to keep my best friend, but felt like they thought we were too poor for them based on our attire. Was told the cremation would be about a week. Went back after not getting a call back and the staff acted annoyed that we would ask instead of continuing to wait. Overall bad experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had an appointment to get our dog spayed weeks in advance which ended up being rescheduled last minute for the next day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We made the arrangements and traveled an hour an and a half to be at Copelands at 7:30am per their request.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were told the procedure would be finished no later than 5:30. We waited nearly 8 hours in town just killing time before we were called and told that they were unable to start the procedure that day because other dogs arrived that needed more urgent care which is unfortunate but understandable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However the staff was not helpful and rude through the second half of the experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]when we showed back up to pick up our puppy at 3pm we were given back our dog without any explanation of why she was shaved and had a bandage on her leg.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After the appointment I called and had questions about what happened and why we she was not able to get the procedure done and why she was shaved and had bandages since we weren't informed of the procedures or when she would be able to take off the bandages.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After expressing my concerns I was told "well we didn't even charge you for giving her a catheter and boarding her all day, we didn't have to waive that fee but we did." [[HIGHLIGHT]]The fact that they had the audacity to act like they were doing us a favor by "waiving" the fee is came across as very inconsiderate to us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Needless to say we decided not to reschedule the appointment for the third time and will be taking our pup elsewhere. read more

But the staff were so nice and helpful, they took great care of our guy and monitored him all night to ensure his stomach didn't turn. they're the worst vet in town and they will go out of their way to encourage you to kill your pet through euthanasia no matter what the problem is with your pet. Mine had pneumonia and the overnight doctor that they connected me to initially tried to refuse me service because I had had a bad experience there before 20 years ago. After I called back several of the people I talk to basically were just like "well it's all about quality of life" and tried to get it me to kill my cat. I guess it's easier to make money for doing nothing than it is to do something. Overall they're the worst vet I've ever seen. Yesterday they, while I was there, admitted that they didn't do anything to my cat or give him any treatment for one solid day. No x-rays, no food, no water. They actually told me to bring in food to see if he would eat because they didn't know if he had eaten anything since I brought him in. They seemingly ignore the duty of care clause in the Hippocratic oath which states that once they agree to actually perform a procedure they have to finish with that procedure unless you refuse to pay which we did not. They did however seemingly also ignore the law in Tennessee that says that you can't estimate something and then re-estimate it and not inform the people who are being forced to pay it prior to the reestimation of price. They raised our price roughly $1,000 and then tried to threaten retribution by not letting us come back for our checkups that are legally mandated by that oath. Basically their office manager is one of the worst people I've ever had the misfortune of having to deal with. She also claimed that she had dealt with me at flat veterinary clinic and I've never seen this woman in my life until today, so I'm not really sure what she's talking about. I've never in my life had a bad experience with or at Flatt veterinary clinic so she must be very very confused much like she was earlier today clearly. Avoid this horrid place at all of costs, and the cost will probably change by about a third higher. Had the only good doctor there not noticed that they hadn't even bothered to give him an x-ray yesterday and that he was looking at the same x-ray he did on Tuesday we would have never known they didn't do an x-ray on Wednesday at all because I'm going to suspect that the doctor no longer felt like he was the doctor in charge of my cat because I told him I preferred the other doctor because he had prior knowledge of his condition. That doctor was out of town that day having an appointment of his own so the main doctor just apparently didn't care but I have no way of knowing what happened because they really basically only tell you anything once a day and don't really care to try any harder than that. On the days that my cats regular doctor was there my cat looked and acted 100% better than he did on the day that my cat was not taken care of by the same doctor. He also did not seem like he felt as good the next day and my doctor was very confused by this, as am I. they come on and try to passive aggressively act like it is my fault they (the one Dr. and some people in the back seemed to not do their job while his normal Dr was out of town). They are making all Flatt customers pay the fees of Copeland now.... and the remodel just keeps going on. Your rude office manager had really no choice but to remove the $700, as that was the violation of the state estimate law. To raise the price that much you would have had to have written a new estimate and we would have both had to sign it. You violated standards and practices of a vets office in almost every way. Don't respond to people like it is outrageous for you to follow the law and your oath. I don't exceptional expectations, I expect you to do your jobs, not make fun of us while we are there and charge the cost we are told, or don't blame us for your slip up - which it was. You make the estimates, not me. So attentive his nose was stopped up to point of his panting and mouth breathing again. He died tonight. Every pet I have ever taken their dies shortly after. NOTICE THEY HAVE ALMOST AS MANY 1 STAR REVIEWS as 5, there is a reason. They are trash. They also own two of the three vet offices in town that can perform any surgeries , making them basically a monopoly and should be forced to sell Flatts, as they can't staff one vet office well enough to not make jokes about you and your pets and then just let them die. In the office I could hear the vet techs joking, cussing like a sailor and making fun of customers. They should not have a license to preform medicine. read more

Have been bringing our Jack Russell, Lucy, to Copeland ever since we moved here to Cookeville 6 years ago. Our Vet Dr Barker moved away and we saw several other Vets at the Clinic . Our experience with Copeland has been always good . The front end staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The Techs are all very nice and knowledgeable. As most people we have a favorite Vet . Dr Kelsey Wright is an exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable Veterinarian with awesome bedside manners. She loves the animals she cares for and never gets annoyed with any of the multiple stupid questions we ask as overly worried doggy parents . She takes the time to explain her findings and test results and always puts our mind at ease. She is a fantastic doctor and Lucy loves her dearly. Thank you Dr Wright for all you do for your furry patients ! ********** Another day took our little Jack Russell, Lucy, to Copeland for a quick check of her pale gums . Our Vet Dr Kelsey Wright was not available but her Technician Allison was. She took care of Lucy as if she was her own dog. I could tell Lucy was very comfortable with her. She stopped shaking immediately. Allison checked Lucy out and was able to put our mind at ease once again. Allison is a great Technician, very knowledgeable, answered all my questions. Have been treated very poorly there. My dog was bitten up by other dogs. I rushed him into the ER clinic there in the evening. I was told to leave him there and he would be taken care of. Checked back at 0800 the next morning and found that he had not been cared for or cleaned up. He smelled like rotting flesh with the stench of infection. I took him home and cleaned him up. There were several other unfavorable interactions. I asked for a rabies shot without mercury in it. They refused to order the healthier option of vaccine, so I went to another clinic where they provided it. When the vet at COPELAND's found out, he was extremely rude to me. This vet did everything he could to make me feel bad. I will never go back. A very big ego problem. I will pray for him as it is apparent he is not happy. read more

They refused to see Jax because he was not an established customer. We were regular customers of Flatt's Veterinary Clinic who are owned by Copelands and they still refused. Best Friends Veterinary Hospital in Crossville agreed to see Jax but he died on the way. Thanks to Best Friends for trying and stay away from Copelands. read more

I recently adopted a 12 year old Basset Hound from the local animal shelter. I found out that the shelter Works closely with this Veterinary Hospital , so I decided to continue using their services once I adopted my pet. I had no idea if I had to make an appointment or what the hours were so on the way home, I stopped by to check in and happened to ask the receptionist if I did need an appointment and what their hours were and what I needed. She said they were available to do it at that time, so I went to the car and got my dog. The young doctor, Dr. Seth Baker, was prompt to come into the exam room and look my dog over. He gave me his opinions on what ailments the Aging dog had, what he suggested be done, and he gave me the upper and lower estimate prices of services to be done. He didn't push me or try to sell me on unneeded services. He was very kind and professional. Because of that, I decided to make an appointment the following week and come in and do everything he suggested. I dropped off my dog about 8:30 in the morning and I was able to pick her up by 5:30 at night. By then the medication had worn off and she had time to rest. And to my relief, not all services had to be performed, so the doctor saved me some money. I took those savings and bought the flea and tick medicine for a six month period. All in all, everything went smoothly and very well. Communication was great. The clarity of the ticket and charges was great. And the professionalism and personal Touch given by each employee was wonderful. Kudos to this business. read more

I use to swear by this office always talked highly of it but never again will I entrust my fur babies with such negligent people. The male doctors are absolutely amazing. But the female doctor will over charge you for everything. Normally the staff are inviting and empathetic of your situation. No not today I took my deaf dog to have a simple ear hematoma removed which costed me $700. I sent my son to pick her up since it's his dog and she is most comfortable with him. He gets her home I check her out and she had an IV left in her right paw. I called and I was told it was no big deal and mistakes are made. Excuse me mistakes are made??? My dog is not a pet she is family and I would be just as mad if this was my child. I explained this to Kenzie and she said I can do it MYSELF because again this is not a big deal. I expect when I pay $700 for a $400 surgery to not have to load my deaf dog up in a vehicle that she is petrified of drive for 45 mins to go back to the office meanwhile why she cries the entire way there have it removed and drive 45 more mins home while she cries is not a big deal!!! To me it's a huge deal!!! If Kenzie is working don't take your dog here she could careless what your animal goes through. Extremely awful customer service! read more

We recently moved to the Cookeville area and were in need of a new vet for our 5 year old black lab/great dane mix & 3 year old plot hound mix. After asking around Copeland was the most recommended so we gave it a try. Thankfully (knock on wood) we haven't had any emergencies, but for the two check ups/visits we have had Copeland is wonderful. The staff is very friendly and always greet both us and our pets. The veterinarians were very transparent and forward with what they were doing, why they were doing it, best practices for at home care, and any recommendations for care/treatments. We will certainly continue to seek care from Copeland and I will continue to recommend them to friends. read more

I brought in my cat who was having distressed breathing and nothing was done to help him they couldn't tell me what was wrong it was a bunch of "I think" and "maybes". I left paying over $200 for getting nothing. When I was leaving my cat started meowing and breathing out the mouth I looked at the lady and told her that I have never seen him do that before and she just looked at me handed me my receipt and told me to have a good day. They don't care about your animals. All they want is money. And that's exactly what they got from me. My cat passed away later that day. I am new to the area and was recommended this vet for boarding. Keyword "VET" I LEFT MY 7 year old shitzue and 7 year pitbull for 3 days (Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon) at this location for boarding. When I pick up my dogs both of them were very lethargic, now keep in mind keep word in house vet my shitzue was pooping blood not once did she get treated or seen by the VET . Staff did not communicate this to Vet. Paud $150 dollars for boarding at a vet . I did not know she was pooping blood until I took her home and woke up to blood all over the hallway. Extremely unsatisfied with the level of service provide at this location will nor have my dogs ever boarded here. After spending more than 225 for medication, really wonder what kind of boarding is provide if they actually care about their customers family members. Copeland Veterinary Hospital deserves nothing but 5 star ratings; they are excellent beyond words. My dog is aggressive and particular, so he must be treated with caution. He loves Kristen and Josh, two of the vet techs at Copeland Vet, as well as Dr. Baker. We have been going here for several years, even though I moved to a different town. I drive all the way to this veterinary clinic because they are that caring, knowledgeable, and pleasant. In fact, all of the staff are wonderful. Donna at the front desk is an angel as well. Also, it's noteworthy that Dr. Baker has performed three surgeries on my dog (CCL) and 5 years later, he is still doing what he can to help the arthritis my dog has developed. The staff here are all very friendly and efficient, but Dr. Cottrell does not seem to know much about small animals. I brought my rabbit in for a checkup and she seemed clueless about what rabbits are supposed to eat, and was not gentle with my very timid rabbit, even after I explained how timid he is. She was slightly rude with me when she was trying to remove my scared rabbit from his carrier, as well. I just didn't think she handled the entire process with care. I've been to rabbit vets who were far more gentle and knowledgeable about small animals than she seems to be. The nail-cutting staff, however, are GREAT! They handled my rabbit with care, got his nails trimmed quickly and well, and knew exactly what to do and how to hold my bunny. I will always use them for my nail-cutting needs. But I will take my bunny to a different vet when it comes time for an exam. read more

We had to take our little Shih tzu to the vet Sunday - emergency visit. She's been having ongoing skin issues and treated for them for a year and a half, - she woke Sunday with shortness of breath. The vet on call even though not her regular vet was familiar with her and had seen her a couple times when the vet that usually sees her was out took an xray and said she has congestive heart failure and with the ongoing skin issue we should put her down - we declined and went to her Nashville visit today with a group we already had Scheduled regarding the skin issue but because of the Sunday diagnosis requested she see an internal medicine vet as well. Well she does NOT have congestive heart failure! !! And a skin scrape analysis resulted in 1 pill that they said will have her skin back to normal in about a month. A far cry from the 7 that was pushing to put her down Sunday! read more

I woke this morning to find my fifty pound dog had an aural hematoma, her left ear was swollen to the size of a grown man's fist. I panicked and took her to the closest vet from my house, Copeland. The staff hired to run the front counter all feigned concern for my obviously suffering dog while they turned me down for a "vet credit card" and refused to accept a down payment and bill me for what I could not afford to pay off immediately. If you love your pet, I recommend VCA Ragland and Riley Animal Hospital. Their top priority is your pet's health, not money. read more
