We were treated well and the vet took his time with us to answer our questions and explain options that were financially pragmatic. Additionally, unnecessary tests were not even discussed; whereas, the last vet we went to would automatically need to do cultures and blood panels at the cost of hundreds of dollars. Instead, based on observation via the exam and the symptoms and behavior we described, we were given a prescription to try. This did the trick and the concerns have not only resolved; but it seems our dog is feeling better and is on the mend. The only cause of concern was aseptic techniques were not observed but when questioned the vet was quick to acknowledge and left the room to wash up and resolve the issue. Both my husband and I have medical backgrounds so we tend to be more concerned about blood borne pathogens than the average person so this may have been something most people would not be concerned with or have noticed. Nevertheless, we still highly recommend this practice as affordable, knowledgeable and more importantly as one that does not view the owners as just a way to charge more for tests than is necessary. Being given options with informed information to make decisions from a financial perspective that is in line with our budget without being made to feel uncomfortable was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. I have been bring my pets to Flatts for a couple of years now. My 16 year old terrier mix had stopped eating and was lethargic. Figured he was dying from age. Was tested and labs show end stage renal failure. Recommendation was for a medication and appetite stimulant and to see how he did. 1 week later he was outside chasing a squirrel in the back yard. Now 60 days in and he acts like he did 5 years ago, running and eating and happy. I cannot say enough about how they have taken care of my 2 old dogs. Their quality of life has vastly improved and if I loose either one anytime soon I know they were treated as best as possible and given quality time in their remaining days thanks to the staff and veterinarians who have treated them! read more

I have been using dr flatt for 12 yrs for all my needs on my three cats and my chocolate lab Clifford and could not be happier. They consistently go above and beyond to treat my animals with care and kindness. I read the other review on here and believe she may be confused with someone else because I have never in 12 yrs heard anyone say the first thing negative about their experience. Just FYI I have used them 30-40 times in 12 yrs, have recommended them to several of my neighbors, and every one of them still uses this vet and tells me the same thing. I needed to have my dog Karmen euthanized and when I called the vet in Sparta where I had taken her previously, I was informed that the drug was in short supply (they had none) and their order was on indefinite hold. I called a another vet in Sparta and they had some of the drug for their clients. I called a vet in Crossville and left a message as no one evidently answers the phone there. Then I checked for Cookeville and found reviews. One vet had a great review but an awful one for coming to the home for a euthanasia. Then I got to the Flatt Veterinary Clinic - I called and got a nice person who talked to me and then talked to the vet. She told me to come at 4:45 PM and they would work me in. I arrived at 4:15 prepared to wait, but they got my info and moved me into a room immediately. Dr Wilton and the tech were both extremely sweet and sat on the floor with Karmen as she passed. I was in tears that she was gone, but also that they had handled everything so kindly. When I get a new best friend (and I will!), my dog will be going to the Flatt Veterinary Clinic on S Willow St in Cookeville TN. Thanks so much. read more

We had recently moved to the area from Michigan and had yet to find a vet. My dog, who has bad allergies, developed an infected hot spot on his belly. I called several vets in the area who informed me they were not able to see him until the following week. Flatt Vet was able to get me in the same day, just a few hours after my call. The clinic was very clean. The staff was kind. We saw the female Dr. who was very gentle and compassionate with our little guy. My only con is it seemed very pricey compared to what I am used to paying, but have heard the cost was similar to other vets in the area, and worth it to ensure our little guy was taken care of. Dr, Flatt's clinic ,currently staffed by two great doctors, Dr. Wilton and Dr. Bejaber, is topnotch. The best in the area and with 3 to 4 dogs and 2 cats, we spend alot of time in doctors offices in the area. What do we like about the docs at this clinic? Both are excellent clinicians (my husband commented after Dr. Wilton examined one of our cats- that is the best exam anyone has ever given to one of our cats). Both are kind and compassionate to us and our animals. They take the time to make the right diagnosis and give the best care to our animals AND to explain everything to us with all the options and predicted outcomes. They never act rushed (we know they are because they try very hard to work you into the schedule based on YOUR animals' needs). The staff from the front desk and throughout the clinic reflect the competency and caring of the docs. The vet was rude and disrespectful to my cat. He was rough with my cat and he hurt him during the exam. After roughly grabbing my cat several times causing him to meow in pain and finally hissing at the vet, the vet accused my pet of been aggressive. My cat is 11 years old and is the farthest thing from aggressive. The other staff was kind and helpful. But we will not be returning to Flatt Veterinary Clinic. read more

Have been to see Dr. Flatt and his staff several times with our dogs. VERY impressed with the thoroughness of the exams and the skill of the staff in diagnosis and treatment. Even the kindness of the staff toward the animals is exemplary. The previous vet we went to put ALL dogs in muzzles (totally unnecessary for our animals) and did not allow owners to be with them during procedures (even minor blood draws). Then, when the previous vet did not even examine our very sick dog, the previous vet said "Oh, I could not get near him IN THE MUZZLE". You can't have it both ways-either you muzzle them so you can get near them or you don't use the muzzle as a feeble excuse for being negligent. You can imagine my delight when I took our older dog in for a physical (a test for the new vet) and Dr. Flatt examined her head to toe. I expressed delight and he looked surprised because he ALWAYS examines the dogs that thoroughly. If he only knew what some of his colleagues were doing. I highly recommend this clinic. EVEN the front desk folks are very nice. They set the tone for good interaction among clients in the waiting area so we have even had fun with other folks and their pooches waiting for care. Getting GOOD (better than GOOD care) puts dog parents in a great mood, I guess. read more
