Very confused. I asked one of the ladies at the counter if she would be the person to talk to about sourcing, and she looked at me like I was speaking a different language. Said everything was from Walnut Creek (which she called a different name) After I asked for clarification, someone else was able to inform me that the chicken comes from GFS. She told me she usually tells people the chicken comes from "Jurassic Park." I didn't think it was funny. In today's age when there's so much wrong with our food chain, it would help if the employees at a "locally sourced market" with take their job seriously enough to speak intelligently on their products. Each time I've been there, it is white glove clean, wonderful displays, friendly and helpful employees. We should have more businesses lke this one. I went around 3pm on a Saturday and it was pretty packed! The staff were all working quickly and efficiently. Everyone was really friendly. You sort of get in line on the left as soon as you walk in. They have selections of butter, cheeses, eggs, broths, etc. The frozen section on the far wall had everything from meat to veggies to jalapeño poppers. The meat was all very clearly marked. Chicken, pork, beef, bones, bratwursts and sausages. The section toward the right had various processed meats like bologna as well as an ample selection of ham hocks. This place is the epitome of shopping small. They had a decent selection of sauces, jams, pickles, relish, and other canned goods. Will definitely be going back! read more

Copey's Canceled my Christmas Order without Notifying Me They accepted my order for 8 flank steaks via telephone on November 17th with a pickup date of December 15. When I didn't hear from them on the 15th I called the next day and was told no they cannot fill that order because it's too close to Christmas to get that many. I asked, then why did they take the order in the first place? The lady said she didn't know. Then I asked how many steaks were they able to save? None because they gave them to customers who were "waiting longer than me." Huh? That makes no sense!!! The only other thing she said was "I'm sorry" before hanging up. I've been alternating between disappointed and livid for the last week especially due to the apparent insincerity of the apology. Fortunately, a phone call to another well-known butcher south of Dayton solved the problem and I had steaks in hand in time for Christmas. The drive was longer but that business is evidently more upfront and reliable. read more

I liked the market even with the exorbitant prices until I asked if the gave a military discount. They said yes and it was 10 percent up 10 dollars and then it was a WHOLE DOLLAR. They were going to give me a dollar off a rib roast that was close to 200 dollars. I told them to keep it and they had the arrogance to state they support the military. It was a slap in the face. Have not been here for 20 years and yet nothing has changed. Still high quality meats and baked goods. You cannot beat their Strawberry Pie. Service here is down home friendly and very helpful with product or recipe questions. It is also just as busy as it was before and that shows they have a loyal following. Had them butcher a cow.. it was weeks late, but staff were sick which is out of their control. The real issue, is that I explicitly asked for the bones of the cow, and almost none were included in the processed cow (4 small soup bones). They also discarded the cow's stomach, which I specifically asked for as well. Not good at following directions. I bought a whole cow, I wanted a whole cow! They have good selection of meat. The downside about going there or even calling on the phone it's a hit or miss on what kind of service you get. I had one girl get smart with me about me calling pork belly, pork belly she's like that's bacon. You call on the phone and sometimes depending on who answers really don't want to be bothered with your question. read more

This is a unpretentious old place, embedded in the community where I grew up. It is neither flashy nor trendy. It's crammed into a rather small place where you get a big gray plastic tub and you walk around in a small circle eyeballing good stuff. Every few feet or so, there's something that just has to get purchased. I might budget a trip at $15 and seek to only pick up a couple steaks for dinner, and then I'll get carried away and throw in some chuck and then some jalapeno sausage, and by the time I get to the register I'm spending triple. The pricing and quality of the product makes it very, very easy to go overboard! But, then I have stuff for six meals and I'm loving every last bit of it. read more

had some hogs butchered there the only thing I wish they would do is put your sausage in a flat pack so you can freeze flat in the freezer instead of in a round tube and I like the way they cut some of the hams into ham steaks you could freeze flat and don't just give you a bunch of big hams to take up all the freezer room. I moved to Medway in September of 2022 and discovered Copey's. I've been here a few times and absolutely love the selection, the atmosphere and the kind employees. I have always been a bit of, what some would call, a "germaphobe". The problem I have is with the employees, who are wearing gloves, do not change their gloves when going from handling raw meat to cooked meat. I watched the employee package raw chicken while the juices ran down her fingers. She then continued to the cooked deli meats, picked up a hunk of pastrami, sliced and packaged it. So, the raw chicken juices on her gloves were also transfered onto the cooked deli pastrami, the whole chunk and every slice she touched. I do not support the dangerous cross contamination that I witnessed here. It may be a minimal amount but I've seen many elderly customers here and it is enough to be deadly for those with weaker immune systems. read more

Copey's is the real deal butcher shop! Our dog loves the smoked dog bones. We humans love everything else. They have a great jalapeño bratwurst, a maple breakfast sausage that is out of this world. Try the ham loaf that can be found in the freezer along with twice baked potatoes, great to have on hand for a night when you don't want to cook. Great selection of FRESH meats! This is a family run shop and they support the 4-H kids in the community too. The pies and desserts from the bakery are just the icing on the cake. read more

I always buy the homemade dog treats and smoked bones for my dogs when I make my weekly visit for meat. I remember coming here quite often with my Dad as a little girl as well as Copeys being my little leauge baseball team sponsor just down the road at the baseball fields. I have been purchasing meat from Copey's for over thirty years. They have fresh local beef that is tender and has less antibiotics, steroids, and is grass fed as well as tasteful. Sadly, I have to give this butcher shop only 1 star. Maybe it's because I am a snob, and I have higher expectations from living in the city, but I am using my taste buds to judge this butcher shop, as well as expectations in quality for fresh meats. Copey's is located in Medway, about 8 miles off of Yellow Springs. Supposedly, I was told that people flock here from miles around to buy their meats. It has it's own private lot, and during the summer, they have an open grill outside where you can buy their fresh grilled sausages to munch on while you wait. Once inside, you feel like you are in a weird meat-ateria. The place is small, and the line goes around an aisle of chips, and condiments. On the left of you are floor to ceilings freezers stocked full of frozen appetizers like onion rings, french fries, calamari, etc. They don't offer you baskets or carts to carry your food, instead you just get big gray dishwashing tubs to haul your meat in. Kinda nasty I thought, and very heavy. We purchased their porkchops, and several kinds of handmade sausages. They call all of their assorted sausages" brats" , not sure why. My mother in law bragged about how good their sausages were so we had bought several packages to take home with us, and also to dine on while we were visiting. We bought their salt and pepper brats, their jalepeno brats, and their italian brats. We also bought some of their pork chops for the grill. My husband went through his usual routine of boiling the brats in beer with onions and cinnamon, and all of us were anticipating the best sausages ever. We were really totally disappointed with their sausages. Definitely not grill friendly at all. It was devoid of any fat...so the meat tasted dry and flavorless. The pork chops had been completely trimmed of any fat, so they too were a bit flavorless. We were stuck with 6 packages of meat to take home. The other day, my husband decided to use the meat for a fritata. He noticed the ingredient package states that the sausage is made out of pork, water and 35% corn syrup solids, and 6% MSG!!!! We were both totally floored and disgusted as this was supposed to be home made sausage. We didn't anticipate that it was made up of fillers or that it was so unhealthy! Grrr! You live and you learn....from now on, we'll taste before we buy alot, and we'll pay attention to the packaging! read more

Copey's is a small family run shop that kind of takes me back to the old butcher shops of my youth. I usually buy boneless pork chops and cubed steak here; both are wonderful. The seasoned chicken breast is good as well. This week, the pie case was full. A coconut cream (my fave) was right in front, begging me to take it home, but as I am the only fan in my house, I declined. I did purchase a small peanut butter pie, which is a steal at $2.75. It feeds 4 people easily. They also do deer processing here and so are super busy during hunting season. I love copeys. We go every saturday and get filets. They are very nice and the meat is WONDERFUL. I feel that they also use local beef and their meet is less loaded up with sterioids, antibiotics, etc - but that's just my opinion from speaking with the locals. One note - we don't even use steak knives on the meat - it's so tender we can cut it with our forks. read more

I have to rate this butcher shop very low for several reasons. We moved to this area recently from Iowa (my husband) and Chicago, Illinois (myself). We have experienced good food in both places. We frequently grill meats (steak, sausage, ribs) and roast (pork, beef). In both locations (Chicago and central Iowa) we were able to purchase good meat. We went to Copey's on recommendations from natives to this region. We were disappointed with 95% of the experience and the food we purchased. The place is small and cramped. The staff was rude. The pork roast was too fatty and much more expensive than it should have been. Honestly, I have bought better meat out of Walmart. We will not be returning. My grandparents live in the Medway area, and whenever we visit we stock up on Copey's products. Their meat is delicious and always fresh. Today we called looking for a cut called tri tip, and though they didn't have it already made, they offered to cut it for us. Customer service through the roof. Also, not only is their meat to die for but their frozen foods are fantastic, especially their cinnamon rolls. I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

Just pick-up the deer meat that I had COPEY'S process for me. And was very disappointed in the way it was process. I have been hunting and processing my deer for over forty years. The amount of meat I got was less than I should have gotten. And I order steaks, roasts, and burger with nothing added. The order form they show me was not the one I placed and the signature was not mine. I will not recommend COPEY`s to anyone I know. Feel like they just took advantage of a 64 year old hunter. VERY DISAPPOINTED NEVER WILL SHOP THERE OR USED DEER PROCESSING SERVICE AGAIN. read more
