Kay is a marvelous cook, and with Don's beehive out back, her breakfasts were hearty and fresh. Plenty of gourmet teas (brewed in your own individual teapot!) and a variety of sweet and savory made the morning meal stand out. We drove around Litchfield and surrounding areas. Hiking is plentiful, and can also recommend the Hickory Stick Bookshop in Washington. We had a late lunch at the Market Place Tavern (built in an old jail!) and loved their selection of drinks, apps, and entrees. Back at the Inn, enjoyed restful sleep both nights. Everything is clean, and decorated beautifully. Highly recommended!!

Over the weekend, we finally redeemed our certificate and had the best time! This is definitely my new favorite spot for an afternoon tea experience. The portions were hearty and I actually left full, unlike other tea experiences I've been to in the past. The owner, Kay, goes above and beyond to take care of your group, and everything is made from scratch by her. The sandwiches feature ingredients grown right in their garden (the cucumber sandwich on rye with her homemade dill spread is delicious!), and the angel biscuits were so fluffy. She prepares everything day of or minutes before, so you're getting it all as fresh as possible, and you can taste the difference! The list of teas is extensive. Kay was nice enough to even give us a tour of the inn, and we will absolutely be recommending them to our friends and family traveling in from out of town. I'll be keeping Plume House in mind as a spot to have a shower as well!

We stayed in the Stafford Suite circa 1778, which was an entire suite. (King bed, kitchen with all necessities, bathroom, cozy livingroom filled with games and so on...). I was in the area visiting UConn for the weekend so this was perfect; about 25 mins away. I had two issues with this stay and I will advise if you have ASTHMA or are an extreme ALLERGENIC person this may not be the right place for you. I struggled!!! 1) there's no heat in any rooms. There's individuals small Honeywell heaters in the bedroom and livingroom which take a lifetime to heat up the rooms. The bathroom does have its own heater. I tried leaving the heater on on low during the day while I left so when I came back I could be comfortable but it was turned off when I came back, I'm assuming the owner went there during the day. Since it's the room is technically under the room floors it's colder plus it's October fall in New England, it's generally cold here. 2) the mildew smell in there is very intense. We had to come home and wash everything. The smell was even trapped in my hair, it stunk badly. In order for them to mask the smell, everything is perfumed heavily. The sheets in the bed are heavily scented with whatever it is they use. If you are an ASTHMATIC or just a Plain ALLERGEN individual this May be a major issue for you. I know it was for me. After laying down for a few minutes, i started coughing, my chest hurt, and then shortly after I went into a full blown asthma attack. We then switched pillows from the couch to the bed and I also threw the blanket that was on the couch of the sheets on the bed and that's how I was able to sleep for the days we were there. Thankfully the couch items were not scented. Please be ware! Don't want anyone to suffer the same. Otherwise the place is beautiful, cozy, romantic if your if your looking for that setting and quiet. Can't speak in regards to food ( I ate out).

My family (two adults and two kids,…read moreaged 5 and 2) stayed in the Stafford Suite, which is an absolutely GORGEOUS one bedroom suite with a living area, kitchen with island, and a spacious bathroom. The fixtures were beautiful, the towels were so soft, and there were lots of lovely extras in all of the rooms (white noise machine! lavender bath salts!) The rooms were immaculate and the beds were incredibly comfortable (we typically stay at high-end hotels, and I expect to be a little disappointed in beds when staying at smaller places - not the case here!). I say beds because Danele pulled out the sofa for my son, and I wound up sleeping on it for part of the night - remarkably comfortable! The kitchen had everything we needed if we wanted to cook (we didn't!), including freshly ground (that day!) coffee, and Danele's breakfasts were delicious. When we had a splinter emergency with my youngest, Danele was able to help out with first aid supplies and kid-friendly band-aids. She saved the day! I can't say enough good things about this place. It exceeded my expectations in every way. We are looking forward to coming back again.

LOCATION: I stayed one Friday night this fall as a splurge ($229 /night) with intention to become familiar with the inn and its namesake town and surrounding communities. The site is steps away from a river and town center, making the Old Riverton Inn an ideal destination for those looking to explore the charming town or fly fish. AMENITIES: The inn preserves the availability of food and drink through a ground floor tavern. Lunch and dinner are offered at the Royal Coachman Tavern (check its Yelp page), but breakfast, conventionally provided to inn guests, is limited to an unattended counter with baked goods, single serve coffee maker, and dry cereal. While this might be ideal for early rising visiting fly fishers, it is not aligned with a conventional inn experience of hot breakfast. ACCOMMODATIONS: There are ten rooms located on the second and third floor of the inn. Guests may select specific rooms through the inn's website. Decor can be described as "shabby chic", with evidence of time reflected in the scattering of scuffs on vintage furniture, peeling print block wallpaper, and chipped paint on trim. Portable heaters in the closets and AC units in the windows are provided so that guests can modify room temperature. PARKING: To my surprise on site parking is not guaranteed to anticipated inn guests upon arrival. I arrived at 5 PM and found lot full, with six cars already parked along the emergency shoulder of State Route 20. While checking in an employee directed me to park in the emergency shoulder (safe/legal?) and assured me that I would be able to get a parking spot by time tavern closed at 9 PM. I appreciate that the current owner, Sherice Levan-Bennett, solicits guest feedback. I suggested dedicated parking for the anticipated overnight guests to facilitate easy unloading and a safe and relaxing experience. TIPS: Check out is early (10 AM). The third floor is quieter than second floor when the Royal Coachman Tavern is open for business.

There is a nice, cool, pool that the kids absolutely loved playing in. The campground is also pet friendly as long as you are in an RV or at a campsite. They don't allow pets in the cabin. That wasn't an issue for us this time, but it's something to consider if you are planning on traveling with pets. The cabins themselves are fine. Nothing extraordinary and nothing to nitpick about the structure. We only had a few issues. The first was with the AC. It was set to the lowest temperature, and it still couldn't keep the room cool. Granted, we came during a heat wave, so it's probably not so bad when it's just in the 80s or lower and the humidity isn't so high. The other issue was the mattresses on the bed. They were like prison mats. So uncomfortable, and even a two inch mattress topper didn't help. If you're a young person, then it probably isn't such a major problem, but if you are over 40 or have back pain, then you definitely want to avoid these cabins or plan to bring something that may help to make it more comfortable. The last issue is the cost. We stayed for two nights, and it cost over $300. My wife booked the cabin without my knowledge, so we were stuck with it, but for that price we could have stayed in a really nice hotel with amenities and towels and all of the things that are typically provided. In these cabins, there is toilet paper, a bath mat, and a couple of trash bags. You have to bring all of your own linens and towels. You also need to bring all of your own toiletries. And if you want coffee in the morning, either plan to bring a small machine and your own coffee, or you can take a 10-15 minute trip into one of the nearby towns. So, for the price and all things considered, I would not recommend booking a cabin here. The RV and campsites seem fine, and our in-laws paid a little less than half of what we paid for their RV site, so I would recommend it for that purpose.

I stayed in the Zzz room for a night. The hosts, Paul and Bette, are wonderful. Their two cats are very cute as well. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed was very comfortable---I had a great night's sleep. The outside is very picturesque--the porch has a fantastic view of trees and flowers (in the spring). The breakfast, prepared by Paul, was plentiful and fantastic. Paul served rye bread and scone baked by him. The house is more than 300 years old and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The stay was very reasonably priced. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and would gladly stay there if I go back that way.

Just finished a long- awaited family reunion at Cave Hill Resort and everything was fantastic!…read more This is such a great place to have a special event. The grounds are beautiful with lots of covered areas where we could gather when a few drops of rain came down. The pool is great for kids and adults alike. The pond looks great to kayak and canoe but we were all talking too much to have time to do those things! Some of the family hiked up into the woods to the cave where the famous "Moodus noises" emanate from. This is a family run resort and I was lucky enough to work with Joanne who went out of her way to make us feel so welcome and she made sure that every detail was taken care of. All of the 75 family members in attendance thought this was the perfect place for our reunion and we are already planning another one in five years to be held again at Cave Hill Resort.

It's a little hard to find via GPS, but off-the-beaten-path is why we chose to stay here. We opened the door into a beautiful open floor plan flanked by barnboard and stucco. Posts and beams support the clapboard ceiling and heartily contribute to the abode's country charm. We were greeted with a welcome note detailing the lodging's offerings with instructions should we have had any issues. There is a beautiful tree overlooking Firefly Pond, which really should have a rope swing on it, but we're hoping they add one in the near future. If you're looking for delightful accommodations in Coventry, this is the place for you.

Gosh, where to begin? We were going to pass through CT to…read moremake it to PA to spend the night when our diesel truck started having serious problems. I quickly looked for a campground hoping they could take us, and that the truck could make it there. As we came limping in, Josh met us to help us quickly park. It soon became apparent, we were going to need a place to stay for several days. Doug, the owner, worked with us in every way, to ensure we were welcomed and would continue to have a place to stay while our truck was being taken for repairs. What a beautiful place to spend an unexpected week. The lake, hiking and amenities are amazing, but the best thing about Wilderness are the people! Saturday night Doug and his wife, Holly, hosted a gathering. We immediately felt right at home with so many friendly people, it was like a family gathering. We even won a gift card to a local restaurant!! We stayed for a week, and now we have a new favorite to add to our destinations!
