Connecticut Magazine named Belden House a best new restaurant. They've had a lot of buzz on social…read moremedia. My wife and I made reservations for our recent Litchfield area overnight. The restaurant is part of a hotel operated on an updated estate. The restaurant is located in a beautiful classic white house. The bar has stunning emerald wall coloring adjacent to a glass window. The main dining room is lovely. Top grades for atmosphere. They even have a Michelin Star for the Hotel. Other than our server having a temporary memory lapse about the flavor profile of sorrel , service was pretty much perfect. Friendly. Helpful. Efficient. For example, our server was able, at our request, to serve Belden House's famous chocolate chip cookies even though they weren't on the dinner menu. They were delicious. The food ranged from good to very good. My wife and I split (1) sourdough focaccia and cultured butter; (2) shrimp with fennel in a sorrel sauce, (3) pappardelle with pork shoulder; (4) green garlic linguine with clams, preserved lemon and sake; and (5) Short Rib with persimmons and sunchokes. The bread was very good. The shrimp had good texture and that dish was cool visually. I was a fan of both pasta dishes. They both had a nice acidity, which you don't always see with pasta dishes. The shredded pork was tasty. The short rib wasn't a highlight for me, but it was good. It had a firmer texture than I'm used to. The persimmons brought a cool shape and color, but I didn't love the flavor with the short rib. We had a great experience. I recommend Belden House for an upscale night. 4.5 Stars

LOCATION: The house is within walking distance from the town Green. CONCEPT: Belden House and Mews offers luxurious accommodations as well as spa and dining amenities to both overnight guests and local community. DINING EXPERIENCE: If you haven't visited the Belden House dining room yet, lunch is a good first introduction. The lunch menu offers familiar classics, but with surprising twists in ingredients and/or preparation that elevates each dish. Servers are well-informed and will enthusiastically outline what makes any dish special. It is apparent that the chef, Tyler Heckman, devotes much thought and care into the creation of these dishes and has high level of culinary knowledge and skill. Case in point the clam chowder with kombu.... Cream is steeped with seaweed blades to impart unique flavor, and slivers of celery are blanched and placed on the base of the serving bowl, allowing preservation of the vegetable's crisp texture. Lunch is served in the dining room every day to both overnight guests and the public (age twelve and up) between 11 and 5. In December 2025 a tea service will be an additional lunch time option, with a variety of loose leaf teas, such as floral White Peony and smoky Lapsang Souchong, paired with flavorful pastries and small sandwiches.

The location was beautiful with lush green spaces and large vegetable gardens, unique cottages (for overnight stays) we started by taking a quick walk around - glad we showed up 45 minutes fly for our reservation. We then sat in the tavern and had two well made drinks, my wife loves a good French Martini and they made an excellent one. They the called us to the upstairs dinning room and sat us by the window overlooking the path down through the open space towards the Spa. The sun was setting at the tree tops. We decided to try the 4 course dinner instead of the 3 because all the dishes sounded so good we didn't want to skip any. Anthony took care of us but there were also others making sure we had everything we needed. I added pictures for each. The bread was fresh and tasty, shrimp cocktail and a whole radish with a nice dip, the salad was great with watermelon and plums, the game bird (can't remember the name) was perfectly cooked with fresh figs, the pasta starters were fantastic one with red sauce and sausage the other with a pesto sauce with pine nuts -yum. The main was a filet mignon perfectly cooked medium rare with creamy mashed potatoes and a delicious sauce. Finally the desserts were great, 1 chocolate mousse and one cheese plate. We splurged for our 31st wedding anniversary. It's that kind of place. What a special night.

The rooms were extremely clean and spacious, each having their own full bath. The owners, Bob and Maggie, made the wedding and our stay that much more enjoyable. I stumbled along this place online and we were so happy I did! The innkeeper was very gracious and gave great recommendations on local restaurants and activities. It was September/October so we decided we wanted to take a "leaf peeping" drive and so we followed a map and some road signs for magnificent views of the New England fall foliage. We even went over a few covered bridges, that was a first for us! We did wine tastings at local nearby wineries, including Hopkins, which was our favorite. We bought some souvenir wine glasses and a bottle (or three) of wine and enjoyed it at Lake Waramaug -- the most beautiful autumn setting -- not far from home base at Constitution Oak. Bunnell Farm was nearby and they have a great corn maze. You can also stop for fresh produce, pickles and preserves at Freund Farm along the Leaf Peeping route. This B&B is in a great area with lots of local attractions nearby, including historic Litchfield. We stayed in a room upstairs and it was huge! There were 3 beds so we both had our own bed and then some. The bathroom was in the hallway but we were the only guests so it didn't matter. There was a nice dining room with pastries and coffee waiting for us in the morning and a cozy sitting room to unwind.

Have been staying here several times a year for the past 17 years since my in laws live in Kent. The owner is so accommodating and always makes sure she gives us our favorite room.
