I had a great stay at the Courtyard in Waterbury. As a single dad traveling with my daughter, I really appreciated how supportive & attentive the front desk manager, Carlin, was. She made sure our check-in was smooth & got us to our room quickly & without hassle. Her professionalism & kindness really stood out. The hotel itself was very clean, & all of the staff--including the housekeeping team--were friendly & helpful throughout our stay. The room was immaculate, & I felt comfortable & well taken care of. My only real issue was the lack of microwaves in the rooms. It was inconvenient having to go downstairs & wait in line just to heat up food. That's definitely something the hotel should reconsider. Also, I noticed Carlin often seemed to be managing the front desk alone--even during busy periods. I'm not sure why she doesn't have more staff support, but she handled everything with patience & grace, even when there were 10-15 people waiting. She deserves recognition & backup. I did notice the hotel seems to attract a mixed crowd, possibly due to the price point, but that shouldn't reflect on the hotel itself. As long as you're there to rest & relax, the experience is more than sufficient. Overall, I'd absolutely stay here again. I'm not sure why this hotel has low ratings--my experience was excellent. The location of the Courtyard Waterbury Downtown is easily its best asset. Sitting right at the intersection of Grand and S Main Street, it's super convenient to both I-84 and Route 8. Unfortunately, the rest of our stay was pretty frustrating. For starters, watch out for the parking. I was under the impression that parking in the adjacent garage was complimentary for guests, but I only found out after checking out that they charge $15 a day. To make matters worse, the elevator inside the garage was out of service, with an old sign posted that looked like it had been sitting there for months. As a Marriott Gold Elite member, I booked our room through the Bonvoy app and attempted to check in beforehand, but the system wouldn't let us. I also requested a mobile key, but those weren't available either because the hotel was apparently in the middle of a system upgrade. When we arrived, our reservation had somehow assigned us an accessible room, which temporarily locked us out of the other available options. Thankfully, the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful in getting the reservation sorted out. The lobby itself was clean and well-kept. Once we got up to our room on the ninth floor, things went downhill. The room had a terrible, musty smell. It clearly used to be a room where smokers stayed--that heavy tobacco stench had completely saturated the carpet and walls, and no amount of cleaning spray could hide it. The windows were filthy, and the entry door looked like someone had previously tried to pry it open with a crowbar. The worst part of the night was the air conditioner. It's an ancient unit that rattled and sounded like a diesel truck engine every time it kicked on. Between the smell and the noise, it kept us up for most of the night. It's a great location, but given the state of the room and the garage situation, I wouldn't stay here again. read more

Super nice staff - Front desk was amazing. This property was worn, weathered and in major need of upgrading. We were checked in into room 714 The ceiling was peeling and the couch was stained. We checked into another room after we requested a change. Room 920 had a bad smell to it - we went to house keeping for a deodorizing spray. We did the work ourselves to attempt to cover in mask the bad smell. The staff was courteous and helpful but it's time for the elevators to be updated - they use contact paper that looks like wood to give the impression that the elevators have been updated. The flooring inside the elevators needs to be seriously replaced. I'm surprised at the level of not paying attention to detail. Disappointed that this is a Marriot Bonvoy brand. read more

I got charged $150 for a room that I had booked online for $110- The person who checked me in was rude; did not issue me a receipt at check in and was very unprofessional My tv did not work; and took two hours to fix (they did fix it) The room smelled of dog and horrible musk A drawer was hanging off, and the refrigerator did not work The heating and cooling mechanism was extremely loud ands noisy, and the lack of ventilation was concerning. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash containers were empty. Nothing in them! I slept horribly. :( Just overall disappointed. A little understaffed, but overall a pleasure to stay. The place is clean, and everyone is nice. Staff members are generally working hard, but sometimes they are overwhelmed. When my mom and I checked in, we were all set, but a few items were missing: not enough bathroom supplies, and soap and conditioner were absent. There was no complimentary water during any of the nights we stayed. We will definitely stay again but I hope this feedback is considered. read more

I had a great stay, at the courtyard in Waterbury. It really is a great location to be when you have to come to Waterbury, you can walk to the courthouse, train station and even hospital. One thing that was a huge difference for me at the courtyard In Waterbury that opposed to others was the staffs personality, also the ability to handle the job when it's busy. One thing these hosts did a phenomenal job of was being able to listen to any and every customer (i watched as they answered question after question from guests In front of me). What I found most impressive was the happy welcoming attitude endurance these amazing hosts have. If you have a question about the area, food nearby, or even a personal problem. They will talk to you and give good advice I've had at least THREE hosts give me advice I needed! That's three more than times I got good advice at therapy. What I find most crazy is that they don't have to be nice to everyone or even helpful. THE HOSTS ARE JUST GREAT PEOPLE. I'd like to personally shout out Rashida . I watched her diffuse an argument in the lobby mythodically, then she gave me much needed real life advice later that night. FOR FREE. The Courtyard by Marriott has a brand new renovated space within the hotel called The Barn on Grand. Recently, I visited during their Holiday Showcase. The space is gorgeous, it has both a rustic and modern vibe. It's a great space to host a birthday dinner or office gathering. The space was gorgeously decked out with Christmas decor. They had samples of their holiday menu which was exceptional! There were so many great items from appetizers, carving station, pasta station, charcuterie, to desserts. The space even has its own bar. I also visited the Bistro Bar for a happy hour and I got their Bistro Burger and Fresh margarita, both were so good. The Bistro Burger had lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese with garlic aioli (amazing) on a toasted brioche bun and the margarita was delicious and had the perfect balance of sweet and tart. read more

Do not stay here. Wow....just wow. The room was visibly dirty. Everything is woefully outdated - from the lobby to the bathroom fixtures. Awful noise from cars driving by all night long. Only two out of three elevators were working. "Interesting" clientele. Shower gel was just a container full of water with a little residual soap at the bottom. I had to ask three times for the breakfast that was included in my rate. At check in, I asked about my Breakfast, they told me it's not included and I will have to purchase breakfast. Overnight I checked my confirmation, and it said Breakfast was in fact included. Called the front desk and they told me no unless I can prove it. I showed them the above confirmation and they said okay, charge the breakfast to your room and we'll credit it at checkout. Again at checkout the charge was on the bill. The front desk manager who I had interacted with before claimed she didn't know anything about it. I had to remind her of my confirmation again for her to go back to the hotel manager to remove the charge. I've been coming to the Waterbury are now regularly for work for 8 years and 100+ nights. The courtyard used to be a 4 star hotel but it continues to go downhill. The reality is that in The Waterbury area there are only two hotels that meet minimalist expectations. The Courtyard and The Hampton. My take on the current Courtyard. - The rooms are clean but very minimalist. - The location is downtown between the hospital and police department. Ask for a high floor room to minimize the noise - they keep taking away amenities. There used to be free popcorn and newspapers. Gone - parking is in an unattached garage and used to be free but is now a daily charge. - as a Marriott gold/platinum member I occasionally am acknowledged but rarely given the benefits associated with the loyalty program. - free coffee is gone. The bistro that replaced the onsite restaurant is ok but impersonal. I think the food quality has deteriorated. - the attached Italian restaurant is very good but pricey. If you stay you need to go...it's an iconic part of old Waterbury. If you have to stay in Waterbury. There are only two options. If you have a choice....stay in a different city. read more

I've stayed at this Marriott a couple of times (and probably many more since my company has an office here) but it's just a remarkably average Marriott. The rooms are old, smell old, and have old room problems. One room I stayed in had an obnoxiously loud AC unit which took 3 days to fix. All of the bathrooms have poor lighting and either the toilet seat is loose, or there is slight mold/blackening on the caulking around the shower. Everything is in working order for the most part so it's not a terrible stay, but I'm surprised they've made no attempt to update their rooms (now having stayed on 3 separate occasions in 3 separate rooms). The TVs are old and small, the desks don't provide a lot of room to work, and some of the rooms have really awkward layouts. The service (outside of the delay to get the AC fixed) was overall pretty good. The Marriott market has a lot of stuff to choose from if you want a late night snack or drink. Having access to food/drinks from the hotel restaurant is a nice option too, even if it is overpriced.. ($14.95 for an Old Fashion with 1 shot of Makers Mark.. yikes) It's not bad enough that I won't stay here again, but they are in desperate need of renovation to make this hotel up to the standard I've come to expect from most Marriott's I've stayed at (I typically spend over 100 nights a year in Marriott Bonvoy locations). Overall, if the price is right it's not a bad place to stay. read more

Worst experience ever ! Got married to the love of my life on Sept 3rd at Aria. Where we were referred to this Marriot for our friends from out of town, as well as our rehearsal dinner. We had 30 or so people for our dinner on the 2nd we chose the clock tower dinner package. Steak was dry like cardboard and flavorless. On the night of our wedding we a block of approx 30 rooms bought an paid for which were all supposed to be on the same floor (the 11th) that didn't happen. My friends and family were spread out on every floor. We had been had scheduled for an after party to be held in the bar after our wedding to chat and catch up with everyone we didn't get a chance to see at the reception as things get busy with photographers and what not. We were assured via email that the Bar/Starbucks would stay open until 1 am. We had confirmed this multiple times and put it on our wedding invitations. When we arrived back to the hotel after our ceremony at approx 10:45 there was a line at the bar of two couples. I was third in line, I was about to order a drink with my best man and relax the server walked away and turned off the light and said sorry were closed. Meanwhile more of my guests were arriving and filling the lobby area, and seating areas. They have a large living room lobby with quite comfortable couches and lounge chairs. I went up to the front desk and spoke to Landon, he said there was nothing he could do about it and he couldn't authorize overtime. I explained to him that we had a contract with the event coordinator highlighting the bars hours were going to be extended to 1am. I had about 60-80 people here ready to spend good money & tips on drinks & food. He then began referring to us as "you people". Despite feeling insulted I asked if I could purchase all of the drinks in Lobby's snack shop fridge, so at least I could hand out something to my guests while they were hanging out. He than yelled out that he was not selling any of you people anything. I think it was the moment that they threatened to call the police on their guests instead of speaking to them with respect is the moment my beautiful bride broke down in tears apologizing to everyone for how the this hotel had screwed up the most important night of our lives. The next morning we did not spend a dollar on break fast instead we got door-dash. Carlin the manager who was familiar with our planned event apologized profusely. She was great and assured us that Jay (the event coordinator) was on his way in. When he arrived he approached us in a calm and cool manor and apologized as well and assured us that this never should of happen. He would talk to his higher-ups and comp us a portion of the $2500-3000 rehearsal dinner or our $500 + a night room. We got a got a call the next day saying his higher up was going to be out for a while so he didnt have a resolution yet. We ended up getting a $30 credit off one of our rooms an offer of a free stay in the future. Ha I only stay at Marriott hotels and am a proud longtime bonvoy member, but will never step foot in this hotel again. Marriott should be embarrassed ! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE I wanted to give this place no stars I booked a room for 2 weeks and I was double charged and if that's not enough I was forced to check out five days early they charge me once more in total three times when I try to dispute this matter I ask the front desk to speak to a supervisor or a manager I was told they not available at the moment with this being said I told them at this point i am calling the police now a manager is available but won't come and speak to me face to face, In total Marriott robbed me for $1500 plus another charge of $538 they put the $538 back right away and told me the rest of the money $1500 was returned and I won't see it yet because is in the grey area " who and what is a grey are" never hear This before . My bank confirmed to the Marriott they have a hold of the money and nothing is reflecting on my account. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE A SOLO FEMALE. They are running a disgrace of a business with their customer service. I am a female who was staying there July 15 solo for a work conference. Was followed in to the building by a man without bags and who did not appear to be staying there. Huge wedding event going on and no control of who walks in to the building. Front desk does not have view of the main entrance. This man attempted to get on an elevator alone with me. I turned around once I saw he was standing behind me and walked to the lobby. He preceded to linger and then walk out the other exit. Later in the night and probably a separate incident, someone attempted to open my door. The automatic lock did not work and if I had not had the dead bolt on someone would have been in my room. I spoke to the front office In the morning and they said they would have a manager follow up with me. NOTHING. Have called 4x and they have said a manager is not available and they will call back. NOTHING. Absolute trash customer service and they do not care about the safety of their customers. read more

I am a well traveled person, having stayed in 100's of hotels in my life.. from Motel 6's to Hiltons along with Suites and Villas on AirBnB and Vrbo. Never in my life have I had such a horrible experience with a hotel. After at the underwhelming property for one night I was charged for Smoking in the room... I don't smoke. After 3 MONTHS of trying to dispute this false charge with my credit card and on site hotel management I was finally told today after being on the phone for 45 minutes with my credit card company by Hotel manager "Jesse" that oh sorry it wasn't for smoking it was for damages... another BS tale. I didn't smoke in the room and certainly did not cause can damages! With my Card rep on hold with me I was then told, oh sorry the damages were to another room and you got charged by mistake. a big $575 mistake! This was stated with my rep on the phone. and then we were put on hold to the point my rep wanted to end the call. After insisting we call him back she finally got ahold and again we asked for a letter confirming a refund was in order and I asked that the letter also include the details of this fraudulent charge. I believe it was because I had complained about the lack of handicapped parking and the fact I was also falsely charged for parking at the hotel when Expedia only stated there was a charge for VALET parking, I did not Valet and the closest not attached parking was over 100yards away with stairs and icy conditions in February. This place is a rip off... management ineffective if not larcenous and should have the Marriott name removed as it is not a property I would consider worthy of the brand name I usually enjoy. ---update- 3 months later I got my refund after hours on the phone- asking for proof they could not provide - they told me after all that it was a mistake - not smoking but damages to the room - but not my room! This Courtyard is a pretty decent one and what you would come to expect from a Courtyard by Marriott. The front desk staff were quick to check me in and get me on my way. The parking garage is not attached so there is a short walk across the street to arrive at the entrance. Everything is well marked though so not a big deal. My room was clean, well maintained and there's really nothing to complain about here. I had dinner at the cafe and had an exceptional server named Destiny that really made the stay more welcoming. This hotel used to be good. They fixed up the rooms since my last stay but it has become a party spot. When we checked in, there was a guy exposing himself in the lobby. The next night there was several fights all night long into the early morning hours outside the front door. Elevators stunk like weed. Hallways smelled like cigarettes. There was a party on our floor and it got really loud. The Starbucks in the hotel isn't a true Starbucks. It's fun by the hotel staff. Stay away if you're traveling with kids. read more

We were in town to attend my cousin's wedding and this hotel was provided as a preferred location for all guests travelling from out of town. We pulled into the circular temporary parking up front around 1pm and I went in to see if our room was available. Check-in is at 4pm, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to at least see if a room was available. Upon arrival, the hotel staff were nice. Lucky for us, a room was available and we were able to go right up to our room. We reserved a king bed room. The room was clean and neat. After staying in AirBnB's, I forgot how minimalist hotel rooms can be. There was a comfortable king size bed, a stylish couch with an ottoman, and an all-in-one dresser/TV stand/desk. The decor was nice. The bathroom, however, was very bland. It's not a 5-star hotel, so I was not expecting much. Now for my gripes: Our room overlooked I-84. It's a hotel in the middle of Dowtown Waterbury, so there's probably not going to be much of a view no matter where your room is located. Parking is $7 a night. You would think parking would be included, but nope, you have to pay even if you're staying at the hotel. The lot is open to the public, but it should be waived for hotel guests in my opinion. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to check out the pool and the fitness center, so I can't speak on it. Overall, the hotel is nice and if needed, I would stay here again. read more

Stayed here for one-night and overall, my stay was pretty good. The hotel is located in downtown Waterbury, which isn't much of a downtown. Many of the shops were vacant or low-rent type stores. Parking for the hotel is located in a parking garage (free parking), but you will have a short uncovered walk to the front entrance of the hotel. The lobby looks like it was recently renovated. Check-in process was quick and friendly, and they even had some free popcorn and cookies available. The room itself was pretty typical of Courtyard hotels and you'll find the usual amenities inside. What you won't find though is an in-room safe or a mini-fridge. Wireless was free and for the most part performed OK. I did try and stream an HBO show on my iPad and I got through the hour show with about 5 or 6 pauses. The room looked to be a bit on the older side. For the most part it was clean except for one hair I found in the bathtub. The work area had plenty of lighting and outlets and seating was pretty comfortable. You can easily rotate the TV around to watch TV while you are working. The hotel was DirecTV and when I first turned it on, it said searching for satellite signal. I called the front desk and they said it was because of the storm and that it would be resolved shortly. It was lightly raining outside, but whatever. In about 15-20 minutes, the TV did come back on. The bathroom had plenty of counter top space for your toiletry items. The bathtub had a curved shower curtain rod making it feel a bit more spacious in the tub. This is pretty typical of most hotels I've stayed in recently. There are also 2 small closets just outside the bathroom. The bed was comfortable and there are two end tables on either side of the bed with one outlet available at each end table. In my particular room, only the one outlet was working. There is a restaurant on-site, which we went down to in the morning for breakfast. It was buffet style and there were eggs, egg sandwiches, bacon, potatoes, oatmeal, fruit, cereals, breads, and you could make your own belgian waffles. The buffet was about $11/pp. All in all, not a bad hotel. There was a fitness center, but didn't get a chance to use it. There is also a Dunkin Donuts within walking distance from the hotel. We walked into downtown for dinner, and as I mentioned, there isn't much going on in downtown Waterbury! Wouldn't object to staying here again next time I'm in the area. read more

I booked two rooms on 9/11/20. My room had no shower wash in it. I called the front desk to get more, they said someone would be rite up. No one came. I go downstairs after a few hours just to be dismissed by the front desk host and told nothing could be done. That same night I go outside with my family to take some air in and a big fight is going on outside and in the main lobby. Drunk people was scattered all over the property. I go to the front desk again to let them know about the situation and that my family feels unsafe. I was immediately yelled at by two employees located at the front desk. Told once again nothing could be done. This was the worst experience ever while traveling and I've been doing this three times a year for 25 years. I have recently attempted a stay at this location. The bed had trash in in and rather than changing the sheets they just made the bed. This is bad but it got worse; the toilet was also clogged. A room swap was never offered by the hotel staff! This is the kicker.... I contacted the hotel and Marriott customer service. Everything needed to go trough "Justin." Okay, well I get a long email back from him saying sorry the stay was not up to expectations. However, I never stayed!! I left at about 8 p.m. because of the level of service I did not get. I made several more attempts to contact him but he could never "hear me." With a bit of luck he can hear me now. I want my money back at this point. If I wanted to stay in a shit hole, I'm sure Waterbury has a room I could have stayed at!!! read more

Great rooms and secure parking garage. The rooms here are very pricey especially being in Waterbury. I thought that this hotel would be a lot cheaper because of the location but it's not. They do however have a great gift shop with hygiene essentials, drinks, and snacks. read more

I must admit...after reading the other reviews on yelp I was nervous to stay here. My husband and I stayed here for one night in June. We had a king suite on the 7th floor. The room was very comfortable and the bed was strategically placed across the room from the large floor to ceiling windows. This allowed us to enjoy a beautiful sunrise in the morning while feeling like we were sleeping on the clouds. However, the most memorable part of our stay was our breakfast at the cafe. The food is delicious and I would recommend the lemon and blueberry pancakes any day! The staff at the cafe are AMAZING. They go above and beyond and deserve recognition. The cafe staff went out of their way to entertain us and make us feel like we were home. They were unbelievably friendly. Please don't hesitate to stop by here for breakfast or to book a stay. read more

I travel frequently for work, and generally stay in Marriott properties. This facility's service model truly stands out to me...the staff is just delightful. Don't expect fancy rooms, but if you're like me, you'll enjoy being treated like you are a welcome guest in their home. On a side note, the restaurant that is attached to the hotel (Diorio) is outstanding. My understanding is that they aren't affiliated with Marriott, but it's a super-convenient option as you don't have to leave the premises to access it. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to my fellow weary work travelers! read more

I stayed because there was a restaurant in the building and I wouldn't have to leave. However the restaurant is closed though the website says it's open. Parking is across the street in the parking garage. They charge $12 yet the garage is open for the general public. ( gates are open) The market prices are ridiculous.
