I showed up to Copper Boar with a group of friends, and showing up I found an amazing looking location both inside and out, especially for a restaurant in Iowa. The service was phenomenal, everyone from the owners to the customers were friendly and made the experience extremely great. The appetizers were also really good, ranging from the bone IN wings to some delicious loaded fries. The Pub Burger with fries was amazing, it's like the sauce and the meat made out inside my mouth. We spent our Tuesday night at Copper Boar for our anniversary. The restaurant is absolutely stunning. They have lovely wallpaper, beautiful bronze door accents, and lots of small decor touches that make the restaurant unique and special. There aren't many places in the greater Iowa City area that feel like an interior designer has curated the space but there is a lovely atmosphere in Copper Boar. The menu is creative. Some special offerings include the pizza burger, Nashville hot fish & chips, mozz en carrozo, and the burrata caesar. All of these items were appealing to me because I haven't seen them elsewhere. We ordered the Nashville hot fish & chips and the mozz en carrozo. The dill pickle fries that came with the Nashville hot fish were the bomb.com. My one complaint about the food was that it was incredibly greasy. From the fries to our sandwiches, everything felt very fried. For this reason, I'm not sure that we would return. read more

We had delivery from CHOMP. The "onion" soup was more like potato stew. Too many potatoes, too few onions, too thick. The Fish & Chips were too spicy for us to eat. We popped in with a big group on busy Friday night and had a fantastic experience! The atmosphere is bad ass - inside and out. We were seated indoors which was perfect for our group but the outdoor patio is so inviting with multiple fireplaces, heat lamps and plenty of space - this will be my next target. What a hidden gem. Stopped in a snow storm. This was close by while we were waiting for our room. I had the Sunday Supper: spinach salad with Granny Smith apples bacon candied pecans and a Dijon dressing. Yum. Not even my thing. Followed by chicken pot pie. Overpriced and the food was cold (eggs, pancake). I ordered ala carte scrambled eggs and was served eggs with chives (another menu item). The breakfast potatoes tasted ok but had cut outs, bruises or holes in them. The service was awful. We didn't see our server again until she brought the check. When I left, my clothes reeked of the place. Their exhaust system is poor, if they have one. I am not a fan of smelling like a restaurant when I leave. I would never go again. Head on down the road to Reds Ale or Tin Roost. You'll have better food and service and it won't cost you and arm and a leg. read more

The fries are great, the pork belly was more like pulled pork than rendered sliced pork belly. The sauce (rather than gravy al la poutine) was sweet sour, and really needed spice (heat)...In fact in general the menu could use some spicy additions. Fresh jalapeños for example on the fries would have really elevated this appetizer which with slices of porkbelcy could easily have been an entree. Go early if you want a quiet place to eat and later if you want lots of people and entertainment. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Great place for a dinner with friends! The pita and hummus appetizer came with plenty of delicious hummus. I would certainly order that again! I had the BBQ Korean Steak Bowl. This has plenty of flavor and even some heat. I'd recommend. Others at my table had the Nashville Fish and Chips, Burrata Salad, and the Prime Rib Dip and everyone raved about their own meal! My partner and I have heard great things about copper boar so we decided to try it for ourselves. We went on a sunday at around 11:30am. The restaurant wasnt full but there quite a few people. As we were sat down, we looked at the menu and decided to order sesame chicken salad, wings for appetizer and the steak and egg. We received the food an hour later, with the wings coming in first. We finished eating the wings and about 20mins later we received the salad and the steak/eggs. The gravy on the steak was clumpy which led me to touch the steak with my finger (if the steak is hot, the gravy is usually sleek and more liquidy) and to our surprise it was cold. The whole plate was cold, we called our waitress over to share our finding and she returned it to the kitchen. She came back no more than 3 minutes later with a steak (i think we have all cooked steaks before to know it does not take 3mins), when I asked her if it was a new steak she responded yes, i told our waitress theres no way, it looks microwaved. She then wasnt sure anymore and said she would ask the kitchen. We returned the steak alltogether. We had the sesame chicken salad, it was good, a bit on the sweeter side but good overall. Manager came to apologize for having served a microwaved steak and offered a dessert on the house, but we had lost our appetite by then. read more

Amazing food and great service! Definitely a place to go to if you are visiting north liberty. We have gone four times now, and every item on the menu is a pretty safe bet to order. Most notably, the pork roast and mushroom burger. If you're coming for breakfast, then the biscuits and gravy are a great pick. Even though the food can get pricey, it's worth it. Went on Saturday at 2pm. Nice atmosphere but the service was horrible. Our appetizer came out before our drinks. The artichoke spinach dip was $13.95 and extremely small. Not impressed. My husband ordered the breaded chicken sandwich . The batter fell off and the side of fries were skimpy . The music playing went from easy listening lounge to hard rock . Made no sense. Pricey for what they offer. Won't be back. They need to work on many things to improve and be at that price point. read more

Just okay. This place is yet another gastropub with all of the fairly cliche things you'd expect to see on the menu. The French fries were good and so was the mac and cheese, but everything else we tried skewed really salty and greasy. We ordered the Brussels sprouts thinking they might be on the healthier side but they were literally smothered in overly sweet, overly salty sweet chili sauce.
