We went on a Sunday night and I think we were seated in the kids room, because there were a lot of them, with iPad noise and screaming. But I didn't let that get in the way of a very good meal Service was top notch thanks to Max S. He was attentive and took great care of us. Copper Canyon is your standard "Americana" pseudo-upper-end chain style (per their website it appears to be a Maryland chain) restaurant in Silver Spring. The menu is what one would expect from this type of a restaurant: steaks, grilled meats, sandwiches, etc. We were referred to this restaurant by a hotel worker where we were staying nearby, who described the restaurant is rather expensive. I actually found the restaurant's prices reasonable by today's standard. The restaurant was busy and we didn't have a reservation, but were able to get a seat outside. Our server was nice, but sort of pushy - didn't really give us time to look at the menu after we sat down. We ordered drinks, and she then came back a few moments later without our drinks and asked if we were ready, so we ordered. I ordered their signature roasted chicken, which was decent, but nothing original nor outstanding, while my partner had the prime rib. A few moments later she appeared with the drinks, and sort of apologized I think for not bringing when she came to take our order for the main courses. The main courses came out suspiciously quickly, too quickly - and the youth food-runner worker who brought the food slammed the plates down so hard that it spilled my partner's au jus sauce all over his plate. I complained to our waitress who was apologetic, but did nothing to remedy the situation. I also have to point out that my partner's club soda glass was dirty on the inside. Long story short, the food was OK, nothing special, but generous portions, like I said very "Americana." We hosted a work-related dinner for 11 here and had a wonderful experience! We were seated in an area that would've comfortably seated 12 and was isolated from the rest of the restaurant. Katie was our server and she was awesome! We had corn bread and spinach artichoke dip as appetizers, then for dinner I had the steak special with bacon Mac and cheese and spinach. I wouldn't order the spinach again (it was bland), but the steak was cooked to order and the bacon Mac n cheese is delicious. Everyone was pleased with their food, the service and ambiance. I was deceived. I had high expectations for this place...until I realized, obviously too late, that this was another run of the mill American chain restaurant. I perused their website and menu and it all read and looked awesome. Even walking into this establishment was intriguing, the wait staff were all sharp and tailored, the bar and atmosphere were giving Old classic elegant hickory vibes. The place was beautiful. I should've known better when we asked for sparkling waters and were given 4 glasses of water, with no sparkle and no bottle, we were just told it was Perrier and billed for it! (Hmmmmm) Drinks: watermelon margarita was a miss, way too much tequila in the drink. Blood orange margarita was a hit. Appetizers: Fried calamari was good and crispy. Iron skillet cornbread, which by the way was very very good. They should open up a drive through and just sell the skillet cornbread. Lunch: Two orders of shore style crab cakes with fries. The crab cakes were good, plenty of crab meat but they just didn't have that crispy top or bottom. Two orders of Crispy Chicken sandwiches with fries. This, this right here was the worst chicken sandwich ever of all evers. We were served an oily slab of chicken with oil soaked breadcrumbs, with a glob of mayo and smothered with what they call cole slaw. This was like eating their day old chicken parm...repurposed. (See pics) Popeyes chicken is crispier and 10x better than what we were served. What also had me feeling sure it was yesterday's leftovers was that for us arriving shortly after opening hour, the food came out quicker than quick.....Like Speedy Gonzalez couldn't have served us any faster. This was my second time patronizing this property. It was as good this time, as it was the first time. Ambiance is great. Service, exceptional, food delicious. I had the Steak Frites, with a salad. The decor was that of an upscale steakhouse, modern decor, comfortable booths and tables. We ordered the calamari and spinach dip for appetizer. The calamari was really good, better than I expected. The spinach dip was fantastic, just didn't understand the sides of sour cream and salsa. Also wish it came with some more chips. For dinner we had the filet with Gorgonzola, the prime rib, the chicken pot pie and a crispy chicken salad. All items came out well cooked, and hot! It was my son's first time having a chicken pot pie and he loved it! The food was great as was our server, only comment is that the food seemed rushed. Met up with friends here yesterday, Friday evening - we hadn't seen each other in years, so we were excited to reconnect. The food was fine, ambience was nice, and the location is convenient. We caught the end of happy hour at the bar, where I paid our tab with a credit card (swiped right in front of me), and then moved to the dining area for dinner. I paid my dinner tab with my bank card and left around 8:30 PM to head to our event. As I was arriving home from the event around 11 PM, I got a purchase alert: a $1,077.89 charge at Walmart. I had only used that specific card once all day - at Copper Canyon. The next day (today), I called and spoke to the manager named Melissa to let them know so they would be aware in case someone on staff is skimming card numbers. I wasn't expecting much, and I got about what I expected - she said she'd never heard of this happening before and floated the idea that it might've been a "Walmart hack." That logic didn't hold - my Walmart account shows no transactions, and the card was on my person at the time of the charge. She took my name and said she'd "look into it." Bottom line: if you come here, maybe consider using cash. The experience was otherwise fine, but I was left with a serious concern - and not much reassurance. read more

The food is really good. It reminds you of a home cooked meal. The service is amazing. The Bartender remembers your name and remembers your drink and that is something that I really enjoy. The ambience is very comfortable. You can sit in a booth near the window or you can sit at the bar and engage with other people and I've always had a great experience And don't forget to check out the old-fashioned. If I didn't know it was the same restaurant that my family has enjoyed and patronized for more than a decade, you could have fooled me. Everything has declined, from the kitchen to the front desk. I made a reservation online and followed up with a phone call a) to let them know we were coming to celebrate a 30th birthday, and b) to request a booth for 3 people, as far from the kitchen and the bar as possible. The host showed us to the only booth that sits in direct, constant view of the noisy kitchen and the servers coming in and out of it. My food was absolutely awful: a wilted Caesar salad drowning in so much dressing that the lettuce was unrecognizable as Romaine; a $10 no-proof beverage called Pom something that claimed to have peach, honey and ginger beer, ingredients no one at the table could taste. I sent it back and ordered an Arnold Palmer, which came without a single ice cube. The chicken pot pie was barely warm, and the crispy crust I used to love was squishy; the formerly delicious calamarI was like unchewable rubber hidden in batter. Finally, when I asked for an espressso with a twist of lemon peel, the server asked, "Do you want espresso or coffee?" When I pointed out that espresso IS coffee, he said, "But we have two different machines in the back." The espresso was served with a chunk of lemon peel, too thick to twist. I enjoyed Copper Canyon for years, enjoying their predictably well-prepared, reasonably priced dishes and attentive service. Which bring me to the end of our (probably final) visit. Remember I mentioned telling at least 3 different staff members -- one on the phone, the host, and our server -- that we were celebrating a birthday? Well, when a woman at the table next to us was served a slice of cake with a lit candle, while we were ignored, the decision was made for me. Next time, I'll spring for the money and go west of Rock Creek Park, or stick to Silver Spring Thai, which does a better job with delivery -- always fast, piping hot, politely delivered -- than Copper Canyon did in person. I've been wanting to try this spot ever since I moved into the area. Decided to dip my toe in by doing take out. A burger Ahi tuna salad fiesta egg rolls and bread pudding was on the order. All were sizable portions. While my burger was overdone to my request of medium everything was tasty and the portion sizes were ample. The shoe string fries were the only thing I will do differently but I'm sure coming straight from the kitchen would make them enjoyable. I'm looking forward to going there in person. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. It had been a while since I've come to the Silver Spring Location. (The Glenarden location is my usual go to) Atmosphere: very sexy! Low lights. We sat at the bar and we didn't want to leave. 10/10 Customer service: it was amazing. All of the bartenders were very attentive, anticipating our needs, checking on us frequently. We did find a piece of hair in the pasta (which can happen anywhere). The staff handled it perfectly. The manager came over to make sure we were well accommodated. They offered a cornbread while we waited for the pasta to be remade. The pasta also did not show up on the bill. 10/10! Food: Rattlesnake pasta no meat sub spinach. My friend is a vegetarian and this is her go to order every time she comes. 10/10. Cornbread (complimentary): nice flavor, but a little crumbly for my liking. It had little pieces of jalapeños within. I prefer a slightly more cakey cornbread. 7.5/10 Lamb chop lollipops (Social hour): two lamb chops for $14. Served on top of some greens and a chimichurri sauce. They came out medium, which is my personal preference. They were slightly tangy for me but they were cooked very well. 7.5/10 French fries with blue cheese sauce: i added the blue cheese sauce that is served with the chips (social hour) to my fries. I will usually order French fries everywhere i go. And there's no exception here. Their fries are especially good. They're shoestring fries. Delish. 10/10 Social hour: there were a lot of drunk selections from cocktails to different wine selections and cocktails. There weren't many food options, and even less for someone who is vegetarian. It was nice that there is social hour. I plan to go back to this location later this week! read more

Had a business lunch here and we're team Amber all the way! Her energy and passion was a vibe! We ordered corn bread, fiesta rolls, harvest salad with blackened chicken, and another chicken salad with dressing on the side. The portions were HUGE! I really appreciated her reading my reservation notes that I was bringing in one of my pro-football players whom I sponsor and we were celebrating a successful undefeated season. One of the best comfort food restaurants in Silver Spring is Copper Canyon. My wife and I wanted a place just to lay back and relax from a long night out working, and Copper Canyon was that place. I love it when a waiter can read what we need and offer the right items for us to eat. It was great portions, so we split our meals with the rack of ribs, had cocktails, and a dessert. My favorite dessert is the bread pudding, and this one was large enough for 2 people. Overall, it was a great night out. The only minor thing that I can comment on is that I wish when requesting to split a meal that they offer to do that at the kitchen and not for me to do it at the table. read more

I came here tonight with my husband for "date night". We ordered the ribs and pork shank meals, and a caesar salad. Both the ribs and shank were tender and flavorful. The sides were also good. The server/bartender was informative and attentive. The drinks were also good and strong. The ambiance was intimate and nice (dim lights, fireplace, wine bottles) which was perfect for a date night. BL: Party of 6 - we paid $244 before tip which included entrees for all 6, a couple apps to share and a few beers and sodas. For a special occasion dinner ON A BUSY SATURDAY NIGHT at a higher end downtown SS restaurant, higher end menu items and with the excellent service we had, nice interior decor, lighting, seating and ambiance, it was well worth what we paid. Let me list what I was looking for when I was searching for a dinner spot for our celebration: * High preference for a place right there in SS - anyone visiting from out of town and staying in downtown SS, this place is walkable - a major plus * Accepts reservations - that was a MUST especially for our larger party on a busy Sat night - BINGO - Open Table! * Multi purpose menu - had to have something for everyone including lots of fish / seafood lovers (and red meat not-so-lovers) in our party * Great online reviews - yes, I read them - most recent first - I discount ofc bashing about online ordering / deliveries or one-off negative incidents * Review of pics shows an interior that is conducive to a nice group dinner - roomy comfy seating, cozy atmosphere, nice lighting * Not a loud, rambunctious bar and grill - but also not a boutique-y trendy (read: pricey without deserving of being pricey) place With all the above criteria, there are honestly few IF ANY (!!) places that fit the bill right there in downtown SS. Surprising but true. So - I'd say we hit the jackpot with our choice of CC Grill. RESERVATIONS ARE KEY. Don't go there especially on a Fri or Sat night without one! We breezed right in on time (715PM reservs) and still had to wait 20 minutes for our table (it was worth that short additional wait and I wasn't put off by it (for reasons you'll read below) - but it wouldn't be worth a 45 min wait as a walk in with no reservations). So - I always ask: if you CAN make a reservation,WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU NOT amiright?! :) The interior of the restaurant is....curiously laid out. It's not a huge place but when you walk in, literally half the place is the bar area. The bar area has a huge racetrack-shaped bar running the length of the entire restaurant with seating pretty much all around it. There are smaller parties having their meal and drinks up at the bar. Pretty cool vibe and atmosphere. In a Saturday night, the place was definitely hopping and lively but not raucous and out-of-control. The other half of the restaurant is table seating. Booths along the perimeter of the half side and more booths and some tables with chairs. But not a ton of table seating. So.....if you're a larger party (ie 5 or more), you're going to wait. It's just a given. And because this is a place to "see and be seen," linger and enjoy a leisurely special meal, diners arent hustling to eat and run - they're there (as were we) to savor the evening, enjoy the great service, eat a delicious meal and enjoy good company. (Hence the importance of making reservations!!!) Everything we ordered was delicious and recommended: * Skillet Cornbread app * Calamari app * Grilled Rainbow Trout Plate * Chicken Pot Pie (in a cast iron skillet!) * Crab Cake Sandwich - if you're not ravenous, get the sando instead of the Platter for half the price and one cake (sando) vs 2 (platter) * Specialty Wood-fired Rotisserie Chicken Plate For me, this is a special occasion restaurant vs a place I would come to regularly for a meal. A low lit richly accented eatery with tones of dark wood and steeped in opulence. From the second you walk in the service is exceptional. Almost a hand held experience. Our server was at the top of her game and we lacked for nothing. The bar is a huge peninsula of dark wood loaded with stools and libation concoction posabilities. Unfortunately I gave up drinking so I passed on these options... but the rest of my party partook and enjoyed the bar tenders skill. The food selections are elevated comfort food... meatloaf, rotisserie chicken, steak, etc... For my entree I ordered the rotisserie chicken. Unfortunately it had rotisseried a bit too long. The flavor was outstanding but the meat itself was a bit dry... it had just missed the mark. For my side I had the bacon Mac n cheese. It is an easily shareable side that is over flowing with rich cheesy goodness accentuated with decadent bacon. It could have been a meal all by it's self. Every bite was an ver the top flavor explosion of burr rich delight. The prices are high, the service was outstanding, the portions are huge, add over all the experience was on par. We had dinner on the patio at 630pm on a Friday night. The service was slow, but the staff was very friendly. The beer I ordered off the menu wasn't available, so it took me quite a while to get my drink. I ordered an ahi tuna salad, which was very tasty overall. I was really surprised, though, that the avocado was gray and rotten. We were in a bit of a rush by the time we got our meal because it at taken a while and we had a movie to catch, but my spouse did call it out when the server finally came back around and they took $2 off the bill. I am surprised that their kitchen saw a totally gray avocado and thought that it was okay to serve. I wasn't too disappointed overall, but don't think I'll go back. read more

We visited on a Friday night around 6:30 and though they had a lot of diners, we were able to get a table without a reservation. I ordered a peartini and the coconut shrimp special appetizer, and my husband got a chicken pot pie. I feel like we also ordered another appetizer but a quick glance at the menu two weeks later didn't trigger any memory of what it was. I didn't get an entree, as I also had some snacks at our previous happy hour stop. Everything was good. Hubby only got through half his pot pie, brought the rest home. I definitely got through all my coconut shrimp, channeling my inner Eleanor. We saw a server bring a dessert by that looked huge - definitely a sharable (by multiple people) portion, but we skipped dessert on this visit. Ambience is a little upscale, but not too much. Prices are also a little on the upscale side. But, it's a little bit of variety for date night that will probably make it into the rotation when we're in the mood for American food. read more

The Wayne Ave garage parking is conveniently located to the restaurant (especially when the weather is nasty). The cream of chicken noodle soup was tasty. My friend and I shared a cornbread. It was good. My crab cake was oddly watery. I can't explain it, but it was not that it was moist; it was watery. I did not order dessert, but everything my group ordered - keylime pie and bread pudding looked amazing. The front desk staff members were very nice. Our server, unfortunately, was a bit terse, and maybe just a little overwhelmed by the size of our party. Also, the food runners had no idea which diner ordered what. I always thought that would be discussed before delivering the food. It was awkward to have our conversations interrupted several times. Fries were excellent: thin, crispy and hot (I am amazed at the many restaurants that cannot figure out how to cook and serve proper french fries). The cornbread skillet appetizer was tasty and hot (not too sweet, with a tiny bit of spice). My dining companions had burgers which were cooked as requested.
