Based on that experience, I was leery when my family member went to Copper Ridge, but there is no comparison.

At 97, mom was suffering from bouts of dementia, but with rotating caretakers, was still able to live at home. It was decided to move mom to Marquis for "comfort care" as she displayed all the signs of nearing the end and I just wanted to make sure she didn't suffer. (All the paperwork and details were sorted in an expedient and organized fashion, so I didn't have to worry about any of that and could focus on my mother). She wasn't happy being in the hospital and wasn't all that jazzed about being moved to Marquis for rehab... However, it didn't take long for the staff to earn her trust. Her primary nurse, Robin (I hope I got that spelling right), was outstanding. She knew I was in from out of town and that I needed all of the information I could get and she ALWAYS made herself available if I had any questions. When she wasn't there, the other nurses did a wonderful job with mom. My mother was an extremely independent and proud person and did not like to allow anyone to do anything FOR her - but she let down her guard with the staff at Marquis and trusted them enough that her last week was as peaceful as could be expected. I am sincerely grateful for the care provided to my mother by the staff at Marquis - especially the personal attention they paid to mom - rather than just treating her like another body. Mike Ray

This place is an absolute joke. Are you ready for this???…read more We were in a process of applying for our dad, who has dementia, to be placed at Marquis Shasta because they take his insurance and seemed like a reputable facility. We could no longer pay for Willow Springs, which is private pay, and a place that did such an excellent job caring for our father during his time there. He was well-loved, regarded by staff as "one of our all-stars" and was even featured in their April 2024 newsletter for his warm smile and reputation as their "resident chocolate lover." During the application process with Marquis, Willow Springs sent over a standard referral and care plan. Upon looking at the documents, there was an obscure note written by a staff member from Willow Springs that said "Sexual Behavior" without any description or context given. When Lori, the nursing director at Marquis, saw the note, she was rightly concerned and needed to find out more. I called Willow Springs and their nurse reached out to Marquis to explain that the note was in reference to a staff member who was showering our father when he made some sort of sexual comment. The nurse at Willow Springs affirmed that there was no aggressive or threatening behavior, only a few comments like that here and there, which she said was very common for people with dementia. Obviously, sexual jokes or comments are inappropriate in the workplace by those of us who are blessed enough to have full control of our mental faculties. But for an 80-year-old stroke victim with dementia to be declined admission to Marquis for occasional inappropriate comments because his mind is half gone is shocking, unconscionable and discriminatory. Our dad is not a threat to anyone, is not aggressive, and could not be aggressive even if he wanted to be since he moves so slowly and delicately. In fact, he was already a previous patient at Marquis in 2018 when recovering from his stroke and had no negative incidents whatsoever during his short-term recovery care in their facility. Unless Marquis can prove that no other dementia patient has ever been declined or removed from their facility for similar comments, this denial is clearly discriminatory and I will be filing a complaint with the Medical Board of California. To be told that our father is "not a fit" for this facility is insulting and inhumane, to say the least, and they will be held accountable. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! Find somewhere else for your loved one. They are obviously incompetent to handle real-world circumstances when dealing with memory care patients who pose zero risk to anyone at their facility.

Very professional and clean - yeah, I know that's to be expected at a hospital, but you know there's a big difference between levels of 'professional' and 'clean', and I'd say this hospital definitely ranks best out of the 6-10 I've been encountered in my life. My surgeon said he can't do as many surgeries in a day at this hospital compared to the other one in town. At the other one, patients are pushed through a lot faster -which he likes - but he understood that from the patient's perspective it's probably better not to be ran through as quickly. Personally, I LIKE to know I'm not on a conveyor belt for surgery, but being cared for in the best way. I'd choose them again. Kudos to everyone who is patient facing at Mercy Medical!

When I asked if I could get a pillow for my wife and I, I was literally told to go look for it myself. None of the staff takes any initiative and the only way we have made progress through our visit is by us asking the staff to do things. For example we were told that we needed to wait for an ultrasound review. After waiting for 2.5 hours, we asked if they knew anything and they were like... oh yeah we've known for a bit, everything looks fine. Seriously? You didn't think it would be important to tell us that? It's the only emergency room around, but that's no excuse for the absolutely horrendous service/care we've received. There was one male nurse who was very helpful, but he's the only positive part of this experience.
