Aside from my affinity for independently owned local businesses there's nothing I love more than a black business, that is necessary and also near home. I cannot recommend Oakland Copy and print enough. The owner has been there for years and is such a familiar and welcoming face. You can get anything printed here from posters to business cards, and homework. He has computers to use to print out your documents and he charges 10 cents a page for copies. There's faxing and a little parking lot in back as well. If you're anything like me and always fail to refill your printer ink (and don't have fax machine at home/ wanna fax outside the office), this is the place for you! read more

I go to La Farine for my glutinous cravings and never noticed this shop until I needed to print documents. Ok granted that we are in the electronic savvy world there are still demands for printed hard copies. I used to milk my work's printer when I was in the office. I'm such a minimalist that I refuse to buy a printer given that we would probably printer perhaps once a year. Well a year floats by and I'm still working from home. So glad I found this place and it's small business! Imagine an old Kinko's but a tenth of the size. The shop has all the essential printer and copy needs. Also since the libraries have been closed, this is also a great option for computer use needs. The service at this shop is TERRIBLE! The guy snapped at me that I needed a mask when I walked in and I happened to have one on me and put it on no problem and just went to the copy machine to help myself. To his credit he did actually get up out of his chair and come over to direct me to the right machine to print from my USB. But immediately following that, a older couple came in with a request that should be VERY easy for his business to deliver on -- they were trying to get obituaries printed for a service more than 24 hours later and it was a simple scan and print operation as they had already prepared all of the photo collages and they were quite obviously grieving. This jerk them SUCH a hard time and these poor folks were practically begging him and he was lecturing them about how they should have brought it to him sooner and they apologized and he lectured them more and they apologized and this went on for about 5 minutes with him acting very inconvenienced but seemingly considering taking on this EXTREMELY SIMPLE AND EASY job -- mind you the place was COMPLETELY empty and he wad very clearly just relaxing at his computer when I came in. I couldn't take his inhumanity anymore with this poor grieving couple and stood up for them. He was then EXTREMELY rude to me and asked me 3 times how many pages I printed after I had answered each time. This guy is clearly unprofessional and incompetent. I wanted to just throw my papers that I printed on the floor and walk out but took the high road and paid for them. After all of that, he turned down the grieving party's business and I consoled them outside and gave them my number to make sure they got the help they needed. I then went back in and told the guy he should be ashamed of himself and he of course waved me off and told me to get the hell out. As I was walking out, saying he should be ashamed of himself, an elderly woman heard me and stopped to ask what happened and I quickly told her. She had clearly lived in the neighborhood a ling time because she shared that the neighborhood had invited the business but really regretted it because this guy was such a jerk to people. I really try to support black-owned businesses but there's a line and anyone who have recently lost a loved one can quickly understand how upsetting it would be to see someone treating others with such a lack of compassion. I really hope this guy got the message and cleans up his act. read more

Unbelievably poor service that went from bad to worse. Another reviewer mentioned that "if something doesn't come out right, [the owner] will start again." That was absolutely not my experience. I came in on a slow Thursday afternoon, and the owner was rude and unhelpful from the moment I walked in. Because he was unwilling to assist me, the first copy I printed was not sent to the correct printer (additional configurations were needed, but I wasn't told which printer to select of the 7+ options in the print window). The owner then tried to charge me for the botched copy anyway - his exact words were, "So I'm supposed to take the loss for this?" then "You have to pay, it wasn't my mistake." After frequenting multiple print shops in the Bay, I know this is NOT standard business practice. After being rudely talked over for a couple of minutes, I gave a defeated smile and said I'd take my business elsewhere. And then he threatened to call the cops on me. Really, sir? For what exactly? I really hope this isn't how you treat all your customers. I'm a neighbor, a fellow Black entrepreneur, and a former patron of this establishment. I try to support neighborhood businesses whenever possible, but there is absolutely no excuse for the service I received. I'll make the extra trip and go to Pro Copy downtown from now on. read more

Wow, I will never go anywhere else again in the Bay Area for copies. This was my second time in. I had called and gotten a reasonable quote for 55 copies of my workshop flier. I needed digital color printing with special paper. I went in and talked to the owner who suggested a better bond weight for my project. He gave me a LOWER quote than the one on the phone. Because of that, I decided to go ahead and get more copies (70) while I was at it. Then, when he totaled the order, he actually gave me an even LOWER amount!!! Amazing. Also, he was meticulous about the count. He was about to stand there and count out each copy to make sure it came to 70, but I split the job with him so it went faster. He's also friendly and kind. I've never had the urge to review businesses here but I would be remiss not to warn people about this place. I came in on an early Wednesday afternoon hoping to get some quick prints from a thumbdrive I brought with me. Walked in and saw this guy slouched on a chair, looking extremely uninterested in helping. When I told him I only needed 4 prints he insisted that rent out a desktop to plug in my drive which would not have been a problem had he been a little more professional. When I asked him, "can't I just plug in my thumbrive directly to the printer?", he gave an extremely rude and condescending remark that had me stop him and said, "okay, I was just asking you if that and was an option and yet you are being very rude and unprofessional". He got up and puffed his chest, thinking he was going to intimidate me. He walked over and wanted to grab me and I immediately told him "don't even think about touching me." Still in need of a printer, I walked out and left, but not till I took a photo of his signage. As I was about 15 feet away, this man started shouting "you are a coward!" repeatedly, because he knew he was about to be trashed on yelp. I walked back towards him and faced off with him and told him to stop. He continued mumbling walking away then I saw from the corner of my eye that there was a young woman on the corner printing, looking really worried. That's all I needed to convince myself this man wasn't worth it. I should mention that I have been a Krav Maga practioner and grappler for years and it took all of me to not to teach this man some manners, specially when he approached me with an aggressive manner. I needed some papers cut in a very specific way and he made sure they came out exactly as I wished. I went here to get a hard copy scanned into a pdf and loaded onto my flash drive. The man in the shop was rude, unhelpful and unprofessional. He frowned at me the entire time I was in the store. He loaded the pdf into the wrong location, not on my flash drive. He then ordered me to sit down and do the loading myself and walked away. When I got home and inserted the flash drive into my desktop, I found that the shop's computer had infected the flash drive with a worm. Fortunately, my computer security software discovered the worm and removed it. This shop will get no more of my money. read more

Came here at 9:30am today. The little clock says they'll open at 10:00am okay! I go run a few errands thinking I'll go back at 10. So instead of waiting and going back I decide to just walk down the street to The Mailbox and make copies. Glad I did. As I walk back to my car the little clock has been changed to 10:30am. I went to OLU(the owner) to get my fingerprints taken. He does not know what he is doing because he entered the information in the computer incorrectly a total of 4 times and delayed my background check for a total of 2 months. I was very furious and your probably wondering why I kept going to him to get them done well I spoke to Certifix and they told me I had to go to him to get my fingerprints corrected. I then asked OLU(the owner)to call technical support because he's doing something wrong he called and no one answered and told me I had to wait a few hours until they called him back. I had to call technical support myself and they answered within 5 minutes. It was obvious he wasn't trying to be helpful! After calling tech support he still did the fingerprints incorrectly therefore I had to call Certifix again to escalate the problem and they finally fixed the issue. I had to call the agency to fix the problem and had to have my fingerprints taken 4 TIMES. Don't go to Copy USA to get your Live scan done ! He doesn't know what he's doing ! read more

I had to get some copies made and found my neighborhood had a copy place. I have been back several times for various things and I have to say that I really like this place. The owner is a really cool guy and his son was even in there helping once. Kola, the owner, is from another country and culture, which to those with little to no experience with other cultures may feel he is "not so friendly", but once you talk with him you realize that's not the case at all. Wonderful customer service! I had a file which needed to be made into a spiral notebook. I had no clue what I was doing. I happen to call this place and explain my dilemma. The owner, Kola, requested I email him the file and he would call me back with a price. In 10 minutes, I had a price. Once I arrived, Kola informed me that I could pick and choose which pages to add to the notebook, by doing this, I was able to cut the price in half. What a great and honest place to patronize.
