    Western omelette with egg whites
    Michelle K.

Came to have brunch with my partner on a Sunday morning and we were greeted with quite a line outside but it moved very fast. We waited for about 15 mins before being seated. We were told to scan the QR code to check in and to see the menu. We barely got time to look at the menu when someone came by to take our order. We asked for a bit more time as we were still deciding. However, we waited for a long time before we were able to flag someone down again. We were just sitting there for a while just waiting for someone to come for our orders. We both got the Western omelette and I got mine with just egg whites. My partner asked for no butter in his eggs and the kitchen was accommodating. It was a typical breakfast dish that came with fruits, potatoes and toast (buttered or plain). I quite enjoyed my dish as I usually love breakfast/brunch dishes. The interior was also super cute with little breakfast drawings on the wall. I took off some stars for the delayed service, but otherwise a solid breakfast place.

Good for it's wide breakfast menu, but the wait time and service leave something to be desired. We came at 9:30am on a Sunday morning and we had expected it to be busy. However, there were many empty tables but perhaps they were just very short staffed that morning. The wait time for us to get seated was roughly 20 mins. The service itself was pretty sparse, our table didn't get water until after all our meals had arrived, which was about 30 mins from when we sat down. I got the maple plate and it was very hearty--definitely not the type of thing you eat on a diet. It was deliciously greasy and the fruit toast was nice to cut the oil. I probably could have done without the beans, as I'm not much of a canned bean person, but it was part of the order so what can you do? I can't confirm if there were 5 meats in the mix, as the menu had claimed--I could only find bacon, ham, and hot dog. Overall a pretty solid place to have plenty of food choices, but just not the best for service. The food is also sort of overpriced for what it is, and you're defiantly not paying for ambience, fantastic service, masterful cook, or anything of the sort either.

Wait time quoted: 40 minutes. In the meanwhile at least 6 tables remained empty. Under staffed? Perhaps. Was watching one server making her way to one section of the restaurant, only to suddenly turn around to go to another section to clear another table. Once seated, our server came several times to get our orders, which we weren't ready for. Food came in a decent time, except my eggs were rather brown from over cooked. Their potato fries were good. No one came to refill my glass of water until towards the end of my meal. Meh.

The large portion size is undeniable and even when the restaurant is full, they are still able to serve all of us. Although it did start a little slow at first in getting us seated. There were several tables vacant, but we could not get seated quite yet. Quite odd. A drop in a Yelp star because of that slow start.

Service - Super friendly, polite and professional. Did a very good job providing us with everything we needed. Food - Decent food but nothing out of the ordinary. They give quite a bit though, so it's enough to keep you full! Fruits and home style fries with almost every dish. Their sausages were quite tasty so if you're looking for sausages give them a try. Overall the food was slightly above average. Price - Above average but not overly pricy. Both dishes were roughly $15 before tax. For the amount that you get the price is pretty worth it. Atmosphere - Very family oriented decor. When you walk in, you feel like this is somewhere you could see yourself sit down with your family and have a good time. It's very warm and friendly and is also somewhere you can have a brunch date!

It was brunch on New Year's day and our server's enthusiasm, her "spirit" and her jovial attitude made my year! It was 11:39AM when we arrived on New Year's Day and were told to line up to be seated... the wait to be seated, because there were several empty tables still seemed a little longer than what was desirable but staffs were friendly and the wait was pleasant. In fact, the group of 3, for "John", who was behind my party of 2, was quite upset at the wait while I was simply happy to be next. IT WAS INSTANT, being greeted, getting iced waters, and being asked what we would like to drink. She made eye contact when she spoke which is very important to me. That means the person is facing me. As an individual who is hearing impaired and losing my hearing still, it means that I can read lips and understand facial cues better than just listening alone. (I am 35 years old, it is impossible to tell I wear hearing aids and some days; especially in noisy restaurants, I usually don't) She never introduced herself, though. I wish she did that. In fact, I wish that all servers would make eye contact, introduce their names AND their pronouns. "Hi, my name is Chris, I will be your server today. I use the pronouns she/her (he/him; they/them; etc...)" I only got her name because I asked for it between the ice waters and coffees arriving; also then, we had a chance to look at the menu. Right before she left us though, she started, "We also have this dish that's like a poutine, but it's home fries with what we call, 'the works', which has sautéed onions, mushrooms and cheese..." While on the way to Cora's to come eat, I already knew that I wanted some potato dish and breakfast. THIS WAS IT!! I was determined to find the ultimate breakfast to have in addition to ordering, this dish also known as, 'The Works'. After a glance at the menu, I knew I wanted Jo's Construction (3 eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, toast with (fruit or) tomatoes. My friend, on the other hand, was not ready but he knew he wanted something sweet. Upon hearing that, Chris' immediate answer was nothing short of a Godsend. Instantly, she knew which pages to turn to to show off the pictures of what she was suggesting, not only suggesting foods alone, but what can be substituted, what can be added, the price difference, and being incredibly responsive to my friend's answers and reactions. "Oh, if you like that, you can also substitute for pancakes and you just add, "$xoxo". You can also order it on the side.." DONE! My friend and I ended with two plates each! We each ordered a breakfast plate and then ordered another item more! Mine was savoury, The Works; his was sweet, this chocolate chip pancake-cake.... When the foods started to arrive, it was DELECTABLE! The very VERY first thing I do, at brunch when my food arrives, is use my hand to pick up a slice of bacon and feel it's crunch.... I ALWAYS order bacon and it ALWAYS has to be EXTRA CRISPY.... EXTRA!! It was and I was so glad. What made lunch even more enjoyable, when I have my moments of being a coffee fein is that I had for the better part while eating off my main plate, developed a system with 2 mugs for coffee and as one went empty, Chris brought back was that was piping hot, and ready for me to dress up and drink. I was very surprised, even as I sat next to the door on New Years Day brunch with doors opening and closing and opening and being held open, not ONCE was I sipping on cold coffee. This was a good system. Ideally, if it were like Perkins (in Ottawa) then everyone would have their own pot of coffee at the table! Maybe in the future, perhaps? The food came quite plentifully and timely, textures cooked well and everything tasted great. It was tempting not to just sit and chat after our meal as we had the bottomless coffee. We started feeling bad for taking so long and Chris with her humour and flare she made us feel right at home, and told us we were welcomed to stay as long as we wished as the crowds formed by door. This must have been one of the BEST brunches, I have ever had in many, MANY months! I think the only thing that can make over all brunch at Cora's an even better and more regular thing is if there was a loyalty program, even a card to stamp?

    Egg Benedict

A must must must try. Every time I visit Scarborough, I have to come here for brunch. Their egg Benedict is scrumptious.

    Reciept

Literally the worst eggs Benedict I've ever had! Asked for poached medium, poached hard. The smallest peameal bacon and over cooked. No hollandaise sauce, despite paying extra for extra hollandaise sauce. Never ever ordering from this restaurant again!

The problem with this Cora's is how poorly managed it is. They are incredibly busy all the time, yet they have no clue how to seat customers. People will finish their meal and leave their table and the staff will either: a) ignore the abandoned table that needs to be bussed for far too long or b) they'll buss the table and let the clean empty table just sit there empty while ignoring people waiting to be sat because they prefer to seat in the order you arrive. Let me break that down for you: if you are 10th on the list and you are a party of 4 and there are 9 party of 2's ahead of you and there is an empty table for 4, they will leave that empty table for 4 and let you wait 20 minutes while they seat the 9 parties of 2 ahead of you. At tables for 2. While that table for 4 remains empty--lonely even. They could have sat you instantly but they for some reason they don't. Occasionally, they'll seat two people at a 4 top and then a 2 top will open and they can't seat you. I've never seen a restaurant do this and they've done this for years. Only this location. It's dumb. And they are losing business because of it. That said, the food is always good, the portions are ginormous, and once you actually get seated the waitstaff is helpful and sweet. I usually get the oatmeal (made with water) with strawberries and cinnamon. There's an option for Cora's "Ode to Oatmeal" which is topped with granola, berries, maple syrup and English cream--a little too heavy for my tastes. My companions get the glutenous stuff. Strawberry Waffles are usually a hit (PRO-TIP: with Nutella swapped for the custard) as well as the Gargantuan Feast which is just that: 2 eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, Canadian peameal bacon, blueberry pancake and roasted potatoes. All served with your choice of toast. (By the way, toast comes with jellies, jams and peanut butter!) It's convenient and the food is good, which is why we keep coming back, but the long lines and dreadful seating management take it down a star and crush your soul.

This is my first time at Cora's and I can definitely say that I'll be back very soon. They serve breakfast until 3pm so it was pretty busy being a Sunday afternoon. The wait time to get a table was probably around 10 minutes and the wait time for our food was about 10 minutes as well. The food was DELICIOUS! And I was very impressed by the variety of options there was to choose from, made it so hard to narrow down to once choice. Even looking around at other tables, everything looked delicious and the presentation was beautiful. I ordered a burrito that was filled with eggs, beans, veggies that came with sour cream and salsa, as well as a side of roasted potatoes. YUM! It was actually an item off the Teen menu so I was a bit scared the portions were going to be tiny bit I couldn't even finish my meal. My sister had the Cora's special which she enjoyed and couldn't finish either. With most of the meals I saw there was a side of fruit as well. And as a side note, the prices are decently priced. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary there FYI, while checking into Cora's on my Yelp app, I received a coupon for the cocktail of the day with any purchase of a meal over $7 (which most meals are anyways) for free! I got my smoothie on the spot for free = me a happy camper. So it totally pays to check-in ;) As I said before, I would definitely come back to Cora's and will recommend them to everyone!

    The food was amazing!

The food was amazing, but the service was not so great. The server didn't take my order so I had to ask him to come back and then when the food came out we were missing a place and it took a while for the last plate to come out (which I assume our server missed the order) But overall the food was yummy!

The setting feels intimate and unpretentious, more like a traditional neighborhood French spot than a polished fine dining restaurant. We started with the cream of leek soup, which was surprisingly well balanced. It had a smooth, comforting texture without the sharpness you might expect from leeks. Paired with bread, it worked particularly well. The house salad was simple but fresh, with a nicely balanced dressing that made it a pleasant starter. The grilled veal liver may not be for everyone -- there's a slight natural intensity to it -- but with the shallot-based sauce, it became more approachable. The texture was firm rather than overly soft. The escargots were well executed and one of the more memorable dishes. Fresh, tender, and clean in presentation. Overall, a solid and honest meal. With wine, it came to around $80 per person, which felt reasonable for the experience. One thing to note -- reservations are still handled the traditional way by phone, and the restaurant keeps a fairly low online presence. I ordered their salade de lyonnaise, lamb sirloin and chocolate torte. All were good. Though my friend couldn't have any alcohol and the lamb had a red wine sauce, instead they gave her some kind of reduction or au jus sauce with her lamb and it was absolutely delicious, way better than the actual sauce that came with our lamb and beef mains. The desserts are probably the highlight of my meal. I love the chocolate torte I had at the end and also tasted the apple tarte which was also great. For appetizers, the mussels were HUGE and very fresh. For entrees, duck breast was our favorite - meat was very tender, perfectly cooked, and went well with the carrot puree. In addition, the sauce is very flavorful which really elevates the dish! Overall rating for our experience was a solid 4.5-star, and I ended up giving them a 4 (on the Yelp scale) probably related to the desserts. For the entrees, we had the "Magret de Canard" and "Coq au Vin". Both were excellent - perfectly cooked, and great accompaniments; but the red wine sauce with the chicken was the standout. For dessert we shared the "Clafoutis aux Poires", pears baked in thin layers of pastry with vanilla ice cream. It was freshly baked, and not too sweet - so a great end to the dinner. We came to celebrate a friend birthday. It's nice to dress up and go out and enjoy a wonderful dining experience. The service is just impeccable. They are so attentive and really provide that white glove service. We shared the bread with hummus and I got the Romaine Hearts to start as well. I'm so disappointed that I didn't capture a picture of them. The bread was fresh and warm and paired nicely with the hummus. I really enjoyed the deconstructed Romaine Hearts - Caesar dressing, chopped egg(I removed the chopped egg), Parmesan, & toasted bread crumbs. I really enjoyed the presentation and the toasted bread crumbs. For my main my friend and I order the Halibut and my other friend got the gnocchi. Both were just delish! The gnocchi were just pillowy and soft with Maitake mushrooms, wild garlic leaves, peas, porcini cream sauce, and Parmesan crumble. The halibut was cooked to perfection. I really loved the flavour and the bacon added that saltiness you wanted to balance out the rich fish beurre fondue, sherry vinegar and veal jus reduction. I really wanted to order the coconut cream pie which they are famous for but we brought in a cake for her birthday. There is a cake cutting fee, but they did nicely cut and plated the dessert which was a nice touch. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and I will not be waiting another 20 years to return!

The service is impeccable and attentive. From our arrival at the valet parking to the service during dining and back to retrieve our vehicle. I highly recommend making reservations. It was busy even on a Monday. The restaurant is located on the lower floor of a condominium building accessed by an elevator or a staircase. The complimentary coat check is at the entry of the upper stairs. This restaurant definitely qualifies for a date night or special occasions.

This place deserves more hype and more guests than what they are getting right now, it was an excellent meal. Starting off we were a little eh about being squeezed in the middle near the windows but that twinge quickly disappeared once our drinks arrived. I had a super interesting and woody flavor - so delicious. For food we had marinated mussels, oysters, beef tartar, scallops, mussels & cabbage, asparagus, and strawberry & rhubarb for dessert. Simply delicious and not a bad one in the bunch (I liked the scallop one the most). The service was great and very attentive. Paired with everything about the atmosphere, simply great is all aspects.

The Steak Tartare was also a very nice starter, light, fresh, and smooth, served with bread and a pasteurized egg. I also enjoyed their signature G&T, which was refreshing with a slightly sweeter twist than a classic gin and tonic. The ambience was warm, elegant, and full of charm, while the service was attentive and polished without feeling too formal. Overall, Chantecler made a wonderful first French dining experience in Toronto.

Shawn still uses a reservation book and personally handles all reservations from booking to walking them out the door at the end of the night. We made our reservation 1 week in advance for Friday night, and there were still a few prime time seating's to be booked. We arrived, excited for a night of beautiful wine, interesting cocktails, and mouth-watering food. All of that happened along with great service and wonderful conversation. We each started with a scallop and some delicious homemade sourdough bread! Any restaurant of this caliber nails the opening bread, and I never feel confident enough to ask for me - next time I will because FK's was fantastic. We then shared the oxtail fagottini and enjoyed the rich filling and deep savory broth it came with. I had the Ontario Lamb Rack & Loin, which was actually lamb 4 ways, including a lamb head croquette. My husband had the striploin and frites. Both meals were spectacular and cooked to our temperature preferences, but mine takes the cake for presentation! For dessert, I had a wonderful key lime dessert with a coconut cake, and savored every last crumb. Our server paired my lamb with a beautiful glass of red wine, and was extremely personable. We would absolutely return again, for all the reasons above. FK deserves all the accolades they've won and then some!

It's the kind of place that makes you want to settle in, order slowly, and really enjoy the evening. We started with a few appetizers, and the beef tartare was one of my favorite dishes of the night.. beautifully balanced, well seasoned, and rich without feeling too heavy. The foie gras was also very nicely done, smooth and delicate, especially with the toasted bread and the sweetness from the preserve on the side. The risotto was creamy and comforting, with a deep savory flavor that felt very French in the most satisfying way. For the main, the duck dish was especially memorable.. rich, hearty, and full of depth, with the beans and sauce bringing everything together in a way that felt rustic but still refined. What I appreciated most was that nothing felt overly trendy or overcomplicated. The food felt grounded in classic bistro cooking, and that confidence came through in the experience. Overall, this is the kind of restaurant I'd come back to when I want a slower, more intimate dinner in the city. Warm atmosphere, thoughtful food, and the kind of place that leaves a very lasting impression.
