On a very cold and windy weekend afternoon we joined the long line up around the corner. The cold windstorm and long lineup should have been two red flags. Instead we insisted on braving the elements. During the hour long wait outside on the sidewalk the outdoor patio umbrella began waving precariously to and fro in the strong windstorm. It nearly knocked over one very tall patron who was reading his phone and oblivious to the swaying patio umbrella. Grey clouds were rolling in. No one seemed to be bothered by the potential storm. We kept telling ourselves the food would be worth the wait. A table became available for our group and we hurried inside to warm up our frostbitten faces. Our pleasant server quickly took our orders, exchanged some pleasant banter and immediately brought our drinks to the table. Although the inside space was tight our seat neighbors were very friendly. They were in town for a while visiting family and the family decided to have brunch together before touring the city. Our food arrived promptly. It was prepared quickly. The ambiance was convivial. A good time was had by all. We bought several pastries and bread to take home before leaving. It was worth the wait. read more

Situated on Queen St. East, it gets quite busy over the weekend. I like how they have a to-go window for those who only want to pick up a pastry and coffee and another line along the side street for dine in. I went a couple of times on a weekend morning, I was able to secure a table within 15 minutes for 2. I like how my quiche is served with a side salad and bread with butter. I especially like their latte that's served in a bowl. Their food is great, coffee is good. Space for a group of eight at 11:30 on a Saturday? You betcha! We were surprised and elated to get a table within ten minutes of arriving, and boy did we ever luck out! The outdoor patio is perfect, even on a winter's cold morning. The plants, French ambiance, and large space with plenty of light is lovely. The menu was perfect for me, and even for everyone else in the group who had many more dietary restrictions than I. Our server, Nathan, was an absolute ICON. We are all outgoing and tend to be loud and sassy, and he matched us so well. Thanks, Nathan, for a truly wonderful few hours with you. All I saw were the long lines on multiple weekend mornings my wife and I would pass by this place, so always wanted to try it. We were walking along Queen one early Saturday afternoon and saw there was only a 2 person lineup to dine in and got excited - this was finally our chance to try this popular place! And... I don't get it. We got the brekkie (really bland for something that sounded so good), French onion soup (broth was ok, though there wasn't enough cheese and onions to my liking), chocolate croissant (hardly any chocolate), and all of them were disappointing. The only standouts were the hot apple cider (really good, with the natural apple taste coming strongly through) and service (unfortunately didn't get the name of our server, who was friendly and just had a very light and pleasant way about him). Baked French Toast This was very similar to a traditional style French toast, however we found the "toast" more like a banana bread texture and thickness. Smoked Salmon with Scrambled Eggs Exactly as described, this dish was paired with shredded potato roti and a baguette. We found the smoked salmon portion a bit small as it was only 1 piece rolled up. And was also very curt and not personable, which didn't really add to the Sunday Funday vibe (maybe she was hungover) Food wise, we had: Smoked salmon eggs benedict: I really enjoyed this; I thought the croissant was fluffy and flakey salmon was good sized and the egg was runny with just the right amount of hollandaise sauce Croque madam: I think the bread was too thick and dense to be layered together like that, there was also a thin layer of cheese between the bread which you couldn't really taste, the ham slices were also paper thin. I didn't like this one even though I've enjoyed them in the past Fig tart: it had fig, caramelized onion and blue cheese, and it was delicious! The blue cheese wasn't over powering and the pastry part was warm and flakey! I would definitely come back for just this for takeout, but it could do without the rest of the bread and salad tbh. On every plate they also had salad and buttered toast, which would make the meals very carb heavy. We didn't touch any of the additional breads which was a bit wasteful. I agree with what others say about this place. My food was just mediocre. I was still hungry after and I have a small appetite at 100lb weight class. It felt very European portion sizing. My butter was not warm or melted and came with an untoasted baguette that was not the softest. However felt very euro tasting. I got a the salmon rosti scrambled eggs. The small wobbling table and the cramped interior does give this place a certain "European" charm. I was a little unlucky because they were all out of baguette!! As a family of three we attended Brunch this morning. There was a line up, which we waited 20mins and upon getting in the environment was elegant and sweet. The staff were very thorough, quick, and helpful. The drinks and food arrived quickly, I have to say the French toast was amazing! The true winner of the day was the Bon Jour Bennie- hollandaise eggs on salmon and croissant!! Wow! It was soo good! We will definitely be back. J'aime ca. Came here for the first time today. I have been meaning to try this place for a long time but was sort of turned off by the stories of its infamous long lines on weekends. My DC and I arrived a bit after 10AM and we just had one group ahead of us, and waited 5 minutes. Not bad at all. Although, during our brunch we watched as the line grew longer and longer (by the time we left, it was almost curling around the block). The service is prompt. I think everyone is aware of the line, so the wait staff are very quick at taking orders and clearing dishes immediately. When we sat down, we were asked right away whether we'd like some coffee and croissants to start. I just had a tall glass of freshly squeezed OJ. I ended up deciding on the quiche de jour, which had spinach and feta. They also have a lorraine available every day. The quiche came in a generous portion. The crust was buttery and flaky and the filling with delicious (the eggs were fluffy and light, not too dense). It came with a pretty standard side of mixed greens with a basil-y vinaigrette dressing, and their lovely baguette served warm with butter. The DC had the Croque Madame, which looked like the perfect hearty hangover brunch. Mid-way through our brunch, the owner very apologetically asked if we could move tables to accommodate a large group. It was no problem (we just had to slide over one table), and she gave us each a croissant of our choice for free as a 'thank you'. I opted for the chocolate croissant, which I enjoyed later this afternoon. It was just perfect -- soft, flaky, fresh, without too much filling. Other notes: - Tables are very close together and some groups of 3 were sharing just a tiny table meant for 2. - The side patio looks nice. - Cappuccinos come in those huge bowls. - Clock on the wall is 7 minutes fast. - According to my DC, this place is a "gay hipster mecca". I came just to try the tarte tatin. Took it to go and when I opened the box i was amazed to see the serving size i got for $6. I put my fork beside the tarte to show the size comparison. It came with a side of mixed greens. But we still waited 15 mins for food, and considering it was all prepared foods, it should have been a lot faster. I thought the portions were reasonable but my friends felt they were a bit small. For dessert, we ended up sharing a brioche (really meh, flavourless and unfilled), chocolate croissant (not enough chocolate) and raspberry almost tart (pretty delicious, not too sweet). Service was friendly but really disorganized in terms of getting people seated and getting food and drinks out. I would not dine in again because of how unfair their setup is for seating service. (especially the guy named FELIX? the guy with tattoo on arms, caucasian, with blondish brown hair) Same to the other customer review, the four of us have been waiting for 45 mins outside because we have been told to. Few mins later, some people went ahead of us and waited inside. The Host didn't notice that we were there first and I try to reason with the servers there. That's what went down next ... 1. Felix - the guy told us that we will be served next, told us 20 mins later that he is not the one who take care of the line and told us not to ask him anything again. 2. After we tried to tell the other staffs about people who went ahead of us, they thought we were causing too much trouble. So, they try to mess with us by seating people after us to all the EMPTIED table we saw outside at the patio. We found out Felix had been seating the 10 people who were waiting AFTER us FIRST SECRETLY to the patio. We found out afterwards and asked him what was that. We saw there were empty tables and all the 10 people that were waiting after us were got seated. and All Felix got to say was "Well, it LOOKS PRETTY FULL TO ME now". We were pissed obviously but we still try to talk to the owner calmly after and ask for a reason for that kind of service. 3. The owner pretend that she doesn't understand anything we said. And all she said was like "So, are you next?". We have been here for an hour. and everyone else got seated except us. Even the 10 people after us. And all she left to say was " What do you want me to do then?" 4. Rude owner. Rude Staff. Place is dirty. And yes, mouse traps. 5. I politely asked FELIX for his name. Came at noon on the friday before Christmas eve and there was a bit of a wait. (About 3-4 parties in front of us). So, we opted to sit the covered patio area, which had heat lamps. It was fine, but would have preferred to sit inside. Probably the most canadian thing to do is to have the patio open in December. The food was decent, but not amazing. I had the smoked salmon with eggs. The eggs were great, and you get one small slice of salmon. For the price, it was decent value. They gave a piece of bread on the side with cold butter, which I thought was very odd. The bread wasn't very good. The bread was cold and since the butter was a cold as well, and I couldn't spread the butter. The croissants were good. Very buttery and flakey. The almond croissant is not like other almond croissants I've had. It was tasty, but not what I would expect. We got them as they were still warm. Overall, this place is decent, but no worth waiting in the cold for. Their servers are pleasant/nice, though a little rough around the edges. I am not usually in the Queen East area often but a friend of mine suggested Bonjour Brioche and so I decided to go on an adventure for great food! The cafe is at a corner of the intersection which made it easy to find. We arrived around 11:45 on a Sunday, which is brunch prime time. We waited in lime for about 20-25 minutes and got a nice corner table im their small patio (be warned there is no AC inside). The waiter arrived and took our drink orders right away and mentioned the specials. I got the Bonjour Benny with smoked salmon. It was very delicious! The salad that came with the dish was well seasoned and very fresh which complimented the eggs benny. It also came with a baguette and a cube of butter. My friend ordered the Croque Madam which she also enjoyed! She did agree that the eggs benny was better though. "The granola bowl that rocked our world." By the time we visited Toronto, we'd already become jaded with Chicago brunch spots from Bongo Room, Jane's, Sweets & Savories to Orange, Overeasy, Jane's, Dodo, ad nausea. Hence when she wanted to order a simple bowl of granola bowl, I almost chewed her out for being not "serious" enough about our meals in Canada. A couple friends and I were on our way to Lady Marmalade for brunch, but after finding out it would be a 45 mins wait we backtracked to Bonjour Brioche. I'm really glad we ended up here because this place smells like freshly baked bread and all things fried in butter. So much butter. Also, a very small lineup. We were seated right away. It's a very small space and the patio is quite packed in, especially for Saturday brunch. After reviewing the specials I decided to go with the Grilled cheese with egg, prosciutto and tomato on olive bread. It was delicious and filling. However, the real star of the show was the salad dressing on the side salad that accompanied my sandwich. It was perfectly dressed and really well seasoned. They sell it at the front if you're looking to pick it up. You should also give the freshly made fruit juices a try - the one with mango is quite good. At the end of our meal, the server came over to us with a tray of delicious tarts and cakes and asked us if we were ready for dessert. This is very clever and very cruel. How could we say no?! We each picked a tart to go, they come to $5 each. Definitely worth it. After getting our treats we ended up standing in line for some more baked goodies because we couldn't leave without trying their freshly baked croissants, and baguettes. I think we picked up about half a dozen items for less than $10! So to summarize, fantastic place for brunch. I don't think you can go wrong with any item off their menu/specials. This is a fantastic brunch spot and bakery. We love the brunch although seating can be a challenge if you are not here early enough. There is a small patio for summertime (good weather use). We often stop just to buy baked goods. The mixed berry Clafouti is absolutely outstanding and the perfect accompaniment to my boeuf bourguignon. Along with their homemade baguette (also outstanding). You can't go wrong. The quiche here is always wonderful -- no matter what flavor and I love the homemade oil and vinegar dressing they use on their greens. I took the Queen streetcar and almost missed the place but knew I wasn't far off when the heady scent of fresh bread hit me. One look at the specials on the chalk board and I knew what I'd be having: the grilled chicken sandwich on focaccia with guacamole, bacon and Havarti cheese. This sandwich was ridiculously indulgent - the focaccia was not unlike a crispy pillow of heaven sprinkled with kosher salt and the chicken packed a flavor punch. And those responsible for the addition of guacamole and Havarti should be commended on this stellar combination.
