I worked at Ashland Jail and the inmates have better living conditions than the dog cages they have back there. The entire back area of that place looks dirty. And speaking of dirt, when I picked my dog up he had some dirt on him and he smelled like urine and feces. He was peeking over the jail-cell like blinds on his kennel door, and I could tell he was shaking in fear. The room had no outside view, no TV, no radio, and was cold. Most boarding places I've used will give him a bath, trim his nails, and put a cute bandana on him. None of that is true with Cajun Canine. I kind of believe they just tossed him in the cage and forgot about him. He ate like a wild beast when I finally got him home, and he downed almost 4 cups of water. That's also unlike him. They also tried to rush me to pick him up because they have really weird hours. I was in Lafayette when I got a call asking me to pick him up at 1pm instead of the agreed upon 4pm because they had a bunch of cancellations today. I was trying to work with the woman and we ended up agreeing to 3pm. Which means we had to cut our plans short. Well Lafayette traffic is insane and I ended up being 30 minutes late. I was in Gibson at 3pm when the girl called and said she was there waiting for me and wasn't going to be there much longer. Her reason was that she had plans and she was very adamant in saying she wasn't going to be there much longer. So what am I supposed to do? Pay for another night because your day was slow? You have a business and it provides a service. I paid for that service and I expect you to render it. You having personal plans is none of my concern and it shouldn't affect anything. Finally, she mentioned that she doesn't think he'd be accepted back there anymore because he was too scared and didn't want to interact with anyone. Which is really unlike my dog because he loves everyone and is a playful, happy, and social puppy. That was just her way of trying to get back at me for ruining her Thursday night plans by 30 minutes. Heaven forbid. But... you know the saying. If my dog doesn't like you - neither do I. One star.

These people have dedicated their careers to the New Orleans homeless animal population. They are…read morestretched beyond belief and they all have thankless jobs. I admire each of them. I have been impressed with every Humane Law officer I have had to deal with. They are always professionals do respectful. And discrete when needed to be. I don't know how they do their jobs every day. The vet staff have assisted with my pets many times, it's affordable but the wait is insane. I don't know that they can do anything about that. The LASPCA work with a variety if rescues and TNR programs. They have a beautiful new facility and have done so much for the city's stray animal population. The LASPCA also has a few educational programs for youth, I hope to see more in the future.

I have been with them for over 17 years (throughout my first fur baby's 16-year-old life), and we now have 2 rescues. The staff is super helpful ... and I know if I have any kind of issue with my dogs, they are more than happy to help (ask the VET), and they call me back promptly. The 'VET' that tops my list at Ridgefield is Dr. Robicheaux. She is caring and patient, and CALM. She answers all of my questions and calms me with her expertise and disposition.
