So many people believe our taxes pay for this service but the post office is completely self funded by the sale of their services . Yep , they get all their revenue to pay for everything from postage and other services . The USPS is so very important to each one of us is so many ways . This is a review for the DMV location at University Center on Ingra Street…read more I had to renew my Driver's License, and decided I'd go all fancy and get a Real ID, so I checked their website to see what documents I'd need, and that's where I discovered you could make an appointment. I didn't know if having an appointment would get me seen any faster, and the next available appointment was 3 days from when I booked, but that's ok, as my license doesn't expire until end of March. The emailed instructions said to check in at the information desk, or one of the kiosks. I put in my phone number as instructed in the email, and it printed out a ticket number. I rolled my eyes aggressively at it, thinking "I could have just gotten a ticket number from the regular machine" HOWEVER, the actual second the ticket was printing out, my number was actually being called at the booth. And I also got a text message too. I go to the desk, and Shiela/Sheila was super helpful. I had an eye test, I had to answer a couple of questions, provide some documents as proof of where I live, and my Legal Permanent Resident card, and that's about all she needed, despite the fact that their website told me I'd need to bring Birth Certificate, proof of name changes etc. I in fact had a big fat envelope full of stuff, "just in case" I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I paid my $40 and got a receipt, I think that's pretty good for Real ID. I was then directed to desk number 1 for a picture. The lady at desk number 1 was also very helpful and sweet, and she had an awesome sleeve. She checked my receipt, took my picture, even told me it was an awesome picture (I appreciate the kindness) and printed my temporary license telling me my full license card would be mailed and I'd have it in 2-3 weeks. All in all a painless experience, compared to previous visits where I've waited a very long time. Even this office seems a lot cleaner, airier, just more pleasant all round. I think back when I passed my drivers test, I took it over at the old location by Spenard. Anyway, so yeah, in and out in 15 minutes, I don't think you could beat that, so I recommend making an appointment for sure.

This is a small museum collocated in the Administration Building and in front of the fire station…read more It does not have a designated parking area, but there is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance. The museum is locked, but all you have to do is press the button at the door during normal business hours and someone will come down and let you in. The museum has old memorabilia such as ladders, water bombs, toys, helmets, radios pictures and decorative hydrants. They also have an old pole that was removed from one of their fire houses. It is not operational, but still cool to see. The woman working there during my visit was very nice and helpful. She answered any question that I had. It is free to visit and for me, it broke up visiting the same old stuff. There is merchandise such as t-shirts, hats, and patches that you can purchase there. There is no apparatus on display, but I was told that if they were not bust that I may be able to see the apparatus in the real firehouse behind the museum. This is not a big time consumer, but is neat to see and could be coupled with visits to the firefighters memorial, the Alaska Law Enforcement Museum, and other nearby attractions
