Stanley Steemer - Vent with debris, dust and trash

Stanley Steemer

UPDATE: their team came back out and finished the job to our complete satisfaction…read more Total scam. Our professional moving company hired them to clean our leather couch while managing our move across town in October of 2022. They sent a pleasant cleaning guy who like to talk and he took about 3-4 hours to clean two counter chairs and the couch. All seemed okay, at least until I moved into my new place the very next day and l looked closely at the couch. See Couch photos attached. Dirt, grime, dog hair and dead bugs remained in every crevice of the couch. It was totally disgusting and appalling. I had already paid our moving company so Stanley Steemer received payment through them. Frustrated, I called Stanley Steemer and asked them to return and finish the job. A manager (?) came to my house and inspected the couch, and he apologized and agreed that my couch was not cleaned properly and needed to be re-cleaned. We agreed he would send out the cleaner on the following Monday but no one ever showed up, and when we never received a phone call we realized Stanley Steemer is a dishonest company and we gave up. Fast-forward to now, and our HVAC vents in our 1950s home needed cleaning. After living in our home for 17 years our home is finishing up major renovations we started a year ago. The vents were visibly dusty, cobwebby and contained toys and debris --due in part to our son who has autism and liked to use the vents as a hiding place. My husband called around for estimates for vent cleaning and without remembering our previous experience with Stanley Steemer (I was the primary contact for them last year) he invited Stanley Steemer to provide an estimate. Stanley Steemer's sales representative came to our home, looked at the vents, and gave us a quote. My husband clearly communicated to him my serious misgivings with having them return to our home given our completely unsatisfactory experiences with them cleaning our couch last year. They assured my husband that they were sorry, and that they would look into what happened last year and would make sure they made up for it with an extra-good job on the vents. So we went with Stanley Steemer, gave them a second chance, and today they came to clean our vents -- and they failed miserably. My husband greeted them on their arrival and at my request stayed to supervise. After about 1.5 hours my husband had to unexpectedly leave but let the Stanley Steemer guys know he would return shortly. He returned 45 minutes later to an empty house as the two guys were gone -- and guess what? They left at least two vents untouched (photos below) and at least one other that had cobwebs in it. My husband took the below photos and texted them to Stanley Steemer with the message that their work was incomplete and unsatisfactory. We have already disputed the $540 they charged to our credit card, and we will never welcome these fraudsters back into our home.

The sad part!! how many people has he done this to. that were too frightened to report him. now…read morelive in their home scared to death of having the next carpet cleaner, handyman, or any service person in their home out of fear. Edwards Heating And Cooling

We called Edwards on a Monday. They said someone would be out Tuesday between 9am and 1pm. BY 2:30…read moreno one had shown up or called. Around 4:30 we contacted them only to find out they got held up on another job and someone will be here on Wednesday between 9am and 11am. After setting there all day the day before the second TECH shows up on time, walks in and askes the problem. Our unit needs three things but the main one is the blower will not restart unless I am there to spin it and get it going. He looks at the heater, takes a picture of the door with the make and serial number on it and says I will have to check on parts and get back with you. That was 2 WEEKS AND THREE DAYS AGO! To this day I still haven't heard back from them, and my blower runs 24 hours a day because if it goes off there will be no heat. The other parts I would have been fine waiting on but how hard is it to come up with a blower, really? Thats the business they are in. Maybe it wasn't a big enough job to waste their time. I do not recommend them.

In early 2013, one of our HVAC units was not working well. We paid someone to 'diagnose' it, and…read morethey said, "This thing is over 20 years old. Here's a quote for a new one." The prospect of spending $5000 reminded us that we had a home warranty that came with the house. Warranty company sent Edwards out. They removed excessive refrigerant, as someone else had overfilled it. A few months later they also replaced a control board. After those two inexpensive repairs, the unit ran perfectly despite never having been serviced at all until the fall of 2017 (almost 5 full years after company #1 told us the unit wasn't worth fixing). When the unit stopped working again this fall we unfortunately could not remember "Edwards." We called 2 other companies in the fall. Both charged us heavily for diagnostics and ended up telling us that the problems were too significant to bother fixing the unit and instead of clear diagnostics gave us quotes for brand new systems. (These were both companies with great online reputations.) The two companies gave us two very different diagnoses, neither of which made sense to me from a common sense perspective, and I had the feeling they either didn't know what they were doing or were just trying to upsell us. We used a space heater all winter. I tripped the breaker who knows how many times by turning on a hair dryer while running a space heater in the bathroom. Last week I was going through some old stuff and found a receipt from 2013 when Edwards came out. I called. Less than 2 business days later, the unit is running perfectly after Adam Evans found 3 leaky valves and put refrigerant in it! I can't thank you all enough for your honest business practices. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks to Courtney for all the calls. Thank you Adam Evans! You are clearly very good at what you do. For everyone - If you have an older unit that is not working, and you call someone and they are not able to give you a price for a repair, they did not successfully diagnose your problem. When Edwards comes, they say, "This is what's wrong and this is what it will cost to fix it." If Edwards recommends a new unit, I will trust it's time. Adam told us today that despite it's age, the unit has apparently not been run hard and should still have some life in it. That makes sense. It's a full size heat pump that services approximately 300 square feet. Yet another senseless upsell that someone fell for when they put the addition on our house! And that's another thing. Both of the companies we called in the fall told me "no, there's not a more economical way to heat this area." Made zero sense to me. A $40 space heater worked fine on the coldest nights this winter. Only downside was not being able to leave it on when we weren't home and coming home to that super cold room and bathroom. When Adam from Edwards was at our house today, before he knew what was wrong with the unit, he said if we needed to replace it, he would recommend a smaller system. I am truly shocked by how poor HVAC service in this area other than Edwards has been for us. Amazed. And sadly, people will never know this if they just go along with the recommendations to replace a perfectly decent unit. We would not have thought to question the shady process used on us 3 times if not for the initial realization that we had a home warranty after we almost bought a new unit to replace a perfectly fine one. Please use Edwards. They are honest people, perhaps the only ones in our area from what we can tell, and if they wanted to, they could do just as well, or perhaps even better, by upselling everyone they can. We need them.
