Cool dive bar that was probably the S**t back when Tiger Stadium was right there. Fun people, and cheap drinks will bring ya back for more.

We came in sat at the bar and got our drinks in an instant. Our server was quick and got the job done. I ordered a whiskey and Coke 10/10 because Maker's Mark and Coke don't miss. Also ordered macaroni and cheese 6/10 pretty good for a bar. I proceeded to lose miserably in pool because I am a beginner. I will definitely return for pool lessons

Very disappointing first experience…read more My companion and I visited McShane's in Corktown for the first time and sat down at the bar. We waited approximately 3-4 minutes while the bartender talked with other staff and lingered nearby. During that time, he never acknowledged us, never made eye contact, never said "I'll be right with you," and never asked if we wanted anything to drink. He was close enough to know we were there, and we were clearly new customers sitting at the bar with no drinks in front of us. After waiting without even a simple greeting, we decided to leave and try the outdoor bar instead. I asked the bartender outside if he was the bartender, and he said yes. He remained seated, continued talking with a group of women, and again made no effort to ask what we wanted or explain how service worked. I even mentioned that we were new there, but that didn't change anything. At that point, we decided to leave altogether. As we were leaving, instead of trying to help or understand why we were walking away, the interaction became dismissive and argumentative. I don't expect instant service, especially if a bar is busy. I do expect the basic courtesy of being acknowledged. A simple "I'll be with you in a minute" would have been enough. Instead, we were left feeling unwelcome and ignored by two different bartenders. We took our business elsewhere, and unfortunately, our first impression of McShane's was that new customers simply weren't a priority.

I want to like Temple Bar because the location is perfect right next to the Masonic Temple. It's…read moreone of those spots you naturally end up at before or after a show, and it has that classic dive bar vibe that could be so good. But if you know crowds are coming when shows let out... you've gotta be ready for it. Two bartenders for a packed bar just wasn't cutting it. I waited about 20 minutes for a drink and eventually just gave up, which is frustrating when you're trying to enjoy a night out. And the one drink I did get earlier honestly looked like a sample cup. The place felt kinda dirty and weirdly quiet (before the rush)? Like super dark (which I get, dive bar) but no music or energy to balance it out. It just felt off. I've been here a few times now hoping it would hit different, but it hasn't yet. If you're the owner reading this, I'd just say plan for those post-show rushes. Even one more bartender and a little boost in atmosphere would go a long way. I'll probably still swing back because of the location, but man... I'd love to actually enjoy it next time.

Be warned! Kinda shady!…read more The friendly dive bar appearance ends when they automatically add a their own 15%+ tip to your credit card tab. Do they verbally tell you this? NO. Is it printed in small type on the credit card slip? YES. But wait....it gets worse. upon looking more closely At the charges....my drink tab was $98 and the second "tip" charge was $30 Had I been drinking and maybe not looked carefully enough at my Bill? YES. Do I feel this is wrong? DEFINITELY My advice is to pay cash and control this foolishness. Outside of being swindled, the staff was friendly and we had a good time.

I thought the saloon-type entry doors were a fun touch. I liked the atmosphere, too. The menu is wide-ranging, from breakfast any time to burgers, salads and sandwiches. I don't drink alcohol often, but I noticed they had a good selection of hard cider. I decided to get the one that was on the top of the menu -- something with pineapple. It was sweet but very good. My sister had the Honest John's hard cider that was on draft. It wasn't as sweet, but it was good as well. I had the grilled johnny john sandwich -- chicken, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce on grilled pita. It was very filling; I only ate half! My sister had the chicken Caesar wrap, with the same result. We ordered some plain fries to share. Those weren't anything special. All in all, I liked the restaurant and would go back.

It's lively, welcoming, and has that perfect mix of neighborhood bar and downtown cool. The kind of place where you can show up for brunch, dinner, or just drinks and know you're going to have a good time. I ordered the pattie melt, and let me tell you -- it did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and loaded with flavor, with that golden grilled bread and melty goodness that makes every bite better than the last. It's comfort food done right. And the frozen mimosa? So good. Refreshing, smooth, and dangerously easy to sip. It's the kind of drink that makes you want to stay for "just one more." Between the food, the drinks, and the fun atmosphere, Honest John's is a whole vibe. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to -- and bringing friends with me next time.
