Visited for lunch and very much enjoyed the experience. As Brits we're always rather focused on authenticity and although Lone Goat is not your classic example of an old English pub, the downstairs pub section has most of the hallmarks we look for. Most importantly, their drafting of Old Speckled Hen, Smithwicks and Guinness is spot on. Do note that if, like us, you're not a fan of chilled glasses be sure to request accordingly. On top of the excellent beers we sampled, we indulged in the Bangers & Mash and Shepherd's Pie. The bangers were great and the Shepherd's Pie (beef and lamb) likewise - not the usual Cottage Pie substitute we commonly encounter. Service was top notch too. read more

We stopped in to The Lone Goat right after the Pistons game and it was super busy and loud, very crowded! Luckily we got a spot at the bar. Zach was super helpful and very patient when we were trying to figure out what drinks we wanted. He made us a black and tan that was delicious. I really wish we were hungry, because the fish and chips sounded great. I would definitely come back to this English style pub for food and more drinks. Service was very slow. This bar is a hotel bar, which means it's not operating like a typical restaurant. There doesn't appear to be servers and you order everything from the bar. The food was okay but again it's a hotel bar so didn't expect too much. Likely wouldn't come here again. read more

Been here 4 times now. Every single time there is about 2 bartenders for 50 people. They take will always serve attractive women first, and often spend 20+ min talking to them while the rest of the bar waits. If you want a beer, don't come here. My son and I were visiting downtown for a concert at Ford Field and I wanted to grab a quick pre-concert beer. This place filled the bill just fine. The bartender was clearly busy but friendly and smiling. The beer choices were sufficiently varied that my son and I were both able to make a decision. I don't remember the name of the beer, only that it was a lighter stout and that it was very tasty. The seating was comfortable, and they certainly accomplished their goal of making the place feel like a British pub. I would love to come back here sometime soon! read more

Stopped here for a drink. Very cozy pub style, very comfortable seating. Surprisingly more spacious than I originally thought. Friendly staff, however when we were there only the bar part was open, no servers, so I'm not quite sure what their service hours are. I loved the different beer selection and that everything is on theme. The food menu looked fantastic so I would like to go back to try it. Really nice English Pub. Great tap with some favorites from the British Isles, would be better if they added Bass Ale to the tapper. We had the Bangers and Mash and it was very, very good and comes in an English sized portion (for reference when I was in England I went for breakfast, the menu had an English breakfast, 1 egg, beans, tomato sausage. The American breakfast was the exact same except all portions were doubled). We sat at the bar so service was great but here is a warning, as in English Pubs throughout Britain, no matter where you sit, you go to the bar to order drinks or food and to settle your tab. read more

Stop just on a whim for a bite to eat and a drink. Bartender was very short seemed annoyed we were there it was six people in there total including me and my wife. Shout to we need to place order at bar after we sat there 20 minutes. So I walk to bar placed order including a beer while waiting for beer bartender turns and I will bring it to table. Young running food and bussing table did way more than bartender. She brought a new ketchup because the top of bottle was broken off and the bottle is glass. Burger was pretty good but fries were a little chill. Did not want to walk to bar just to try and get hot fries. Bartender never ask if food was fine because she never came to table only once to drop that beer. Like rustic feel of bar TV's were loud. Went the bar to cash out bartender yell total bill with handing me itemized receipt. After giving me the check still tip her 18% but she didn't earn I tip the food runner 20% she tried to look out us. This crappy service gives people complaining about tipping culture fuel. read more

Sorry this place didn't hit for me. I was pretty excited and I've been planning making the trip downtown to The Loan Goat. The day we picked was boxing Day the day after Christmas beautiful British celebration Day, and was excited to see The Lone Goat had a boxing Day special a Saugatuck draft beer and fish and chips for 15 bucks, Yes please that sounds good. Shortly after arriving the excitement faded, stepping in the place looked good but finding a good table proved to be a little tricky there's no service at the tables seat yourself and go to the bar and order your food and drinks. The layout inside kind of made it hard to find a table but we found one upstairs by the dart board it was kind of cold and I wouldn't say that the atmosphere was the best. But that's okay I'll head down to the bar for beer then order the fish and chips special and the saugatuck, as I wait at the bar for what seems a long time, jonesing for that beer l get service that wasn't that friendly, ordered a beer tried to get a smithwicks they were out of then got rushed to order another beer and picked something I didn't like. That's okay maybe next time it'll work out better. Drink my beer step back up to the bar, get snuffed again, ask about ordering the special, female bartender says she has no idea what I'm talking about they don't run specials. Stand there confused and then another bartender steps up informs her of the special, she comes back over and seems mad now, so I asked for the saugatuck but they don't have the saugatuck tells me it never came in and to pick something else, at this point the beer choices were not my favorite and I ended up with something else I'm not even sure what I got. As far as the food goes I did get the fish and chips and the wife got the Welsh Rarebit (one of the few vegetarian items) I would say neither dish was that good, the fish was pretty snotty, small pieces the batter was okay but kind of soggy and overall a fail in comparison to true British fish. The biggest fail was the Welsh rarebit bread was almost totally burnt what little bit of cheese stuff they put on top was dried up and disintegrated the wife did not enjoy. The food came out to our table that was okay and the place looked good but overall I didn't like the atmosphere. The food was a fail and the beer struck out. Trust me British is who I am. We were downtown celebrating and were excited to check this new spot out. This is an English style pub. Having never been to England I couldn't really say if it was close to authentic, but my date assured me it was. We absolutely loved the atmosphere! I didn't go upstairs but I really should have. I wish they had more tvs because this would be an ideal spot for watching some Futbol! The service was fast and polite and the cocktails were delicious and unique. I saw this online and I thought it would be a great pregame kind of place to grab a drink and something to eat. What a big mistake. The place is set up very awkwardly without any direction. We finally found a table we sat down it took forever for a waitress to come over and speak with us, we ordered right away so we could get our food and move on to our party, 45 minutes later our single hamburger and fish and chips finally arrived. Came in. Music is chill. There's 12 people here and lots of staff without things to do. Opened two weeks ago. Still trying to get their kitchen open and approved with the city of Detroit. The manger didn't greet me. However, I was served right away. I ordered a dirty martini, the glasses were all dirty, so I waited, the drink is good. Not filled all the way and my glass was soaked when handed to me. I was offered nuts in a plastic glass. The bartender is very sweet and kept his eye on me. I did come alone so I appreciated this. No outside space. There is an upstairs. Full bar, some craft beer and cocktail menu offered. Four more people walked in. So I hope this turns into a happening spot! It's right next to Sid's and across from The Brakeman. No parking. Street parking or lot. No reservation I think needed here. At least until the kitchen opens. Come with friends. It's pretty low key. Not a dive bar at all. More upscale. The manager seems to only talk to one girl. He's on his phone and picked up some glasses. He's been cleaning. Inside is pretty cool. Old photos of boats and stuff. The bar is pretty. I laughed at the old boat comment. But it's true. Old clippers. I've been here for maybe 10 minutes and more people have come in. Mix of old and young. The vibe is pretty cool. Check it out. I wouldn't rate my experience a five by any means. I really wanted to love my experience at The Lone Goat. I'd been to London a few times and wanted a taste of that experience. The bartenders were nice and engaging. Loved that. We ended up ordering cocktails and they were very good! Disappointing that a British style pub did not have cask ale on hand. That's pretty much a standard for any British pub. The food was just so-so. Fish and Chips were like you'd get anywhere. The curried roasted cauliflower was really bad. I think the cook forgot the oil or butter. It was literally cauliflower with dry powdered curry on top. Simply awful. Sadly, I will not be making another appearance at the goat. read more

I really wanted to be excited about this place, especially since I'm staying at the attached hotel for a few weeks, but today just wasn't it. I ordered a wedge salad from the bar and it took about 25-30 minutes, with no check-in or acknowledgment of the wait, even though there were no more than six people in the restaurant. When I finally asked about it, the woman who took my order had a bit of an edge and told me everything is "made to order"... which, yes, I'm aware, it's a restaurant. That still doesn't really explain the delay or the lack of communication, and there was no apology. I'm not asking for much, but for a simple wedge salad with nothing hot or complicated, the wait plus the attitude just didn't land well. A quick "sorry for the delay" would've gone a long way, but instead it felt dismissive. I'll probably think twice before ordering from here again. he next time I want to order from here. read more

Bar tender was rude and attempted to charge a 'large party' fee for 3 drinks that I ordered. When I asked about the charge he answered it was the usual large party fee for parties of 4 and more. We were 4 but I ordered 3 drinks. When I asked that wanted to speak with the manager, he said he was the bar tender I charge. About an hour before we had ordered 4 drinks and he did not charge the large party fee. When I questioned him why he did not charge it before he said he wanted to 'give me a break' (a person that I have never met and will never see again, giving me a break...). And he said if he called the manager he would questioned him why he did not charge it before. Large parties are considered 6 parties or more. The place is nice but the experience was low due to the service. Will not go again and will not recommend it. read more

Remember this: Terra makes the best drink. It's absolutely delicious. It's called the Wibble, but it should really be called TERRA because it matches her hair color. Unfortunately we did not have a four star experience either. Stopped in before a concert at Ford Field. Really like the concept. Order everything at the bar and have a seat. Ordered a beer, a cocktail and an appetizer. Grabbed a small table in the corner of the bar and waited for our app. Pub cheese and crackers mind you. After 40 minutes we left. Never received the food while all the tables around us received their full meals. I guess now I know why they have you pay for everything in advance. If you get fed up and leave, they have your food to give to someone else and they can also charge someone else for it. read more

Unfortunately I did not have the same experience as the 4 star ratings. The Fish and Chips were at one point frozen. And not even good quality product frozen. Fries were limp, fish was nicely battered but one bite and I knew it was not fresh. Service could have been better. Much better in fact. Nice selection of beer, I'll give them that. The fish and chips were crisp, tasty, and plenty of fish versus being mostly breading.They also have a weekday burger special for lunch and happy hour drinks M-F from 4-6pm.
