I've been going to this location since I was kid, so about 25 years or so... I love it and hope they never go away! They keep making changes/upgrading the theatres and so it keeps getting better and better. They offer movies outside (drive in style), have a few different options as far as theatre and seat style, and all the yummy treats and drinks you could want. This place and its owner understand better than most that Washington County--especially its western reaches--can be incredibly difficult for cinema operators. Yes, Portland has a thriving community of independent movie theaters. Yes, closer in, there's support for places like the Joy and even the mall-based Cinemark in Beaverton. But as those concentric circles widen, you reach areas where the locals pride themselves on not going to movies and using multiplex parking lots for driving lessons. The owners of the Cornelius 9 also owned the Forest in Forest Grove and did their best to draw people into what should've been an ideal theater location. It was blocks away from a college campus, it was surrounded by bars and restaurants and it, briefly, had a brewery partner built right into the business plan. But no: As I learned by making "helpful" suggestions to the beleaguered owners years ago (so sorry, by the way), all of the creativity in the world can't save you from a surrounding pool of ingrates. They tried everything: Foreign films, ski films for the outdoor folks, partnerships with the university film department... then the parade of superhero films. None of it worked. So they consolidated their efforts here... in Cornelius. And it works. What they knew, and that the Forest Theater missed, is that you have to not only have a willing audience, but an enthusiastic one. The Cornelius 9 partners with Helvetia Cider, Ridgewalker Brewing, Retro Game Trader and other local businesses for cosplay nights, theme beers and ciders, and surrounding events. They book blockbusters, indie films, Too $hort horror anthologies, UFC fights, music documentaries, and anime. And every night in this rainbox we call Oregon, they show a drive-in movie for anyone who wants to pay a $10 per person premium not to drive down to Newberg. So while the Regals on Evergreen and TVH die their slow deaths despite being surrounded by apartment complexes and seemingly bottomless disposable tech income, this multiplex has figured out its surrounding communities and gives them what they love at a reasonable price. It's a weird stretch of MMA meatheads, anime geeks, cinephiles, and working families, but one that'll actually go out to the movies if you give them a reason to do so. Cheers to the owners for picking the right building, the right town, and the right mix of offerings. They saw space to get creative and come in a bit cheaper than the corporate competitors, and they're being rewarded for it. Management was negligent and dismissive and the owner is horrible. We had a terrible experience with broken equipment where we had to beg for a refund, and then the manager lied about the situation to the owner. The owner is doubling down, and providing false information (presented very elegantly). Do not go here go out of your way to go anywhere else. This place is terrible please listen to me let's do everything we can to shut them down. ETA: I have tried multiple times reaching out to the owner of this business in order to come to any sort of resolution and instead he comes here and presents... Well... He put a lot of effort into saying many things that aren't actually true. Asking to have the owner of a business contact you, and having him neglect to do so is very different from demanding and owner's personal information. I think there's a pretty clear distinction, the owner seems to think they're equivalent. I've emailed him to try to correct his misconceptions and he ignores me. Really, what kind of person reacts this way? The regal over on TV highway has updated a lot of their seats and is clean and kind and accommodating. After a long absence from seeing movies at the theater, I went here. It's a smaller theater and given the times, it was nice to catch an early show with only a few other people. This theater has reserved seating, which is nice. I bought at the window because I really don't like to pay the fees for online. The guy a the window assigned me a seat, versus getting to pick my own. Not sure if that's standard, but it would have been nice. All the seats in the theater I was in are recliners. It's a nice way to see a movie. The seat bottom in my seat seemed a bit worn down, but was otherwise comfortable. Overall a pretty good experience and it was great to see a movie on the big screen again. read more

This is my go to for movies! they are usually easy to get into, no lines. the staff is great! very friendly! The independent owner has done an outstanding job keeping the prices reasonable for entry and snacks. The earlier you go the cheaper it is! the Popcorn is so good, I have actually stopped by and bought popcorn to take home, without see a movie!!! yea, it's that good! they let you put butter on and seasonings at the "popcorn" station! I'm in love! They routinely have first run movies, and have a TX theatre as well. You feel like your getting so much more here, as they run 3-5 previews for every movie, giving you good looks at future movies. I can almost always get my favorite seats! Had a great experience at this theater! Went on a date there with my husband and it was nice. I didn't come here for it but I noticed they have an outside theatre! Pretty cool! The food court is nice, seats were comfortable and everything was normal for a movie theater. Bathrooms are nice and clean (although my husband said there was a sideways sink in the male bathroom) * I don't know what is up with that but different to say the least! Fun night out place if you need an idea! *Which I have now learned is to meet ADA requirements so that a wheelchair can roll up to and under the counter and the customer can reach the controls! How cool is that! Coming from a girl who has a brother in a wheel chair and shared in his hardships of life in a chair, I think this is AMAZING! A friend had some free tickets. I lived in Forest Grove, in my early childhood years when I first moved to OR from HI. I forgot what this theater looked like inside. The outside, plenty of parking space, right behind a car wash lot. It's all teenage kids who work here. The manager- had an interesting attire on - Cargo shorts. The theater is definitely out dated. But it does the job. For a cheap movie, barely anyone in the theaters. We saw Deadpool 2 There were maybe 15 other people besides us in the theater. This is a review of 3D movie theater systems. The short version is that the Cornelius 9 has the best 3D system in the area at this time. Five stars. If I find out another local theater has equivalent, I'll review them! 3D cinema was developed to lift movie theaters out of the doldrums, and to continue the relentless home TV-cinema screen upgrade cycle. Both applications have done just fine without 3D. Movie theaters have thrived by creating upmarket food and drink experiences. They have also thrived on beefy film marketing budgets, with action figure, theme park, merchandise and gaming tie-ins as well as more savvy international showings even while challenged by low tech piracy abroad. The movie theaters have also benefitted from better multi-channel sound mixing. You are not going to install a 13.1 sound system at home and Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Hulu and the like are not going to send you 13.1 sounds; Blu Ray will not support it either. There are 3 families of 3D theater systems today: polarized systems, shutter glasses systems and 6P - six color primary systems. The 6P systems have the brightest image and least blurring. Polarized systems are often branded in the theater under the name RealD. They have an advantage - the glasses are inexpensive. The theater has to install a special silver screen. The shutter glasses system in theaters goes under the XPAND brand. These glasses need a small battery. They block the scene from each eye, left frame by right frame, 48 to 120 times a second. The Living Room Theaters in Downtown Portland use this system. It is also what is used in home TVs. An advantage is that you don't need a special projection screen for XPAND. The XPAND glasses are more expensive to make and are electronically locked to the theater, so you can't steal them for your home 3D TV. The 6P systems are expanding because they have a better image. The price to build the projectors is dropping. The most popular 6P system is Dolby3D. This technology has the highest level of magic in its making. Screens and cameras work on the red-green-blue system - the primary colors in 6P. 6P has two slightly different reds, 2 greens and 2 blues. The glasses filter one set of red-green-blue to one eye and the other set to the other. Our eyes and the brain put that together as a 3D image. Because it has a better picture, we will see more 6P systems, including the Laser 3D IMAX and other laser 6P systems. But today the nearest Laser 3D IMAX is in Seattle. There are 2 Dolby 3D theaters in the area, Vancouver and Cornelius. The Vancouver theater is run down. The Cornelius theater is disorganized, but there are no lines. Even for blockbusters after the opening crush. We walked into less than a tenth filled auditorium 6 with stadium seating to see Star Wars in 3D. The disorganization comes with the distribution of glasses. The ticket person told us to pick them up at the concession counter. There was a small group of people ordering popcorn and dawdling with the counter person. Fortunately there was a second person who could quickly dispense glasses. But she only had kids glasses. We got to the theater and one of the more competent employees spotted our kids glasses and swapped them for adult glasses. Thanks! The theater should review how they dispense and collect glasses - it's not a hard problem. For instance the ticket taker just inside the front doors could efficiently dispense them to 3D ticket holders. Nothing fancy about the theater, lobby, restrooms, concessions or the 80's neon. The theater website clearly lists all the ticket prices. In theater 6, the sound, picture, seats, stadium seating rake, carpeting and lighting was all great. The theater was clean. Cornelius is my go to theater in the area for 3D despite its distance from Portland proper. Many Yelpers will find it a three star theater, but for 3D it's five stars. read more

This is my new go-to place for movies since I live close-by. Some of the theatres have stadium seating, but not all of them (I was sorely disappointed the first time I walked into a movie without them). The prices are pretty reasonable, and I haven't ever been to a showing that was crowded. Then again, I do favor matinees, so I'm probably not going to any of the busiest showings. This movie theater is hustling to give you a great experience. We have been many times over the years but tonight was our first in theater experience since pre covid. Everything was spectacular! The customer service, the reclining seats with built in tables to hold all your snacks, the freshly grilled cheeseburgers, popcorn, drinks...it was amazing. So reasonably priced and they are clearly working so hard at staying within guidelines and delivering that movie experience we all know and love. We typically go to this theatre, but lately, every time we go, we end up with noisy teenage patrons. tonight, we went to see Invisible Man and there were kids literally running around, making loud noises, laughing, talking, purposely dropping things.... I went and told the workers, and they did nothing... did not remove the kids, just watched from the door. The kids would behave while they were being watched, but I know I'm not the only one who complained. An independent multiplex? Those still exist? They do! Unfortunately, you have to drive all the way to Cornelius to get to it. That's not a far drive for me though, and the opportunity to support a theater that isn't Regal is reason enough for me to support this awesome theater. The first thing you'll usually notice about Cornelius is that it's not very busy for a multiplex. I sometimes wonder how they manage to stay open, honestly. This leads to my biggest pet peeve with the place - often the theater manager is running the ticket office, and occasionally he'll leave to attend to something managerial, and you'll be waiting at an empty ticket office. This is annoying, and the only reason I rated this theater four stars instead of five. However, once you get your tickets, things are great. The usual movie posters and memorabilia adorn the walls. Bathrooms are clean. Popcorn is good, and they use real butter! They also sell Red Vines, unlike Regal Cinemas. Once you sit down, there is usually a slide show running with ads for local businesses, and quiet music. You can actually talk to the people you came with if you wish! Have I mentioned this isn't Regal? There are two screens with stadium seating and THX sound. Cornelius Cinema claims these are the only THX screens on this side of Portland, and I haven't seen anything to dispute that claim. THX isn't totally necessary for great movie sound, but these screens do sound awesome. They also do some really cool special events for big-time movies, like the Pirates or Spiderman series. They'll have people dressed up and giving out movie posters or other prizes. It's this kind of little personal touch that goes a long way with me. Pros: Decent price, THX sound, Red Vines, not Regal! Cons: Ticket office not always properly staffed, a bit far away from civilization Recommended: If you're looking for multiplex options without the multiplex BS, this is your theater. read more

Worst experience, this worker, an old man, on this day at 9 pm kept coming at me being so rude. He kept telling me that I needed to turn off my lights when they were already off. He came up to my car again and told me I needed to check in when my boyfriend had already went to check in. When I showed him that we bought the tickets already he didn't even know what to say and looked dumb. Ok, so my husband won us a crazy amount of tickets on this site no one uses except this theater or another theater even further out in no man's land. With that said, we finally did "the drive" to use a few passes and see Transformers opening weekend. First impression was that 1986 called and it wants its carpet back from their lobby. The guy selling tickets starts being cranky towards my husband when he hands him the printout for tickets the weird website gave us. He demands his credit card...dude, it was a gift card...he leaves with the paper...no comment, just a sigh...whoah guy...sorry to interrupt whatever you had going on back there. Suddenly a nice older gentleman who seemed like the manager ushers us in and points to this small line of people...k....oh, we seriously have to stand in another line? The movie starts in like 15 minutes according to their site but ok. So, we go get snacks. Broken slushie machine? Of course it is.... And I have to butter my own popcorn? Seriously....good to know for next time since, again, we have a ridiculous amount of free tickets to this place... Back in "The Line"....with 5 minutes... and then the other movie apparently gets out, wow...ok. One lone gun with a dust pan and a broom goes in. Ten minutes later we head in - and then practically get run over by children...it is 10pm...seriously. So we move to the front seating which is older but has not a single other person, thank god...the screen is huge - sound is great which I know since as we are walking in they start up commercials and dim the lights! The commercials were just weird... I will say though we are not as scared going here to see a few epic summer movies with our passes where it is not crowded. read more

I happened to find this cinema being I had movie tickets via movietickets.com and this is the only theater in the greater PDX area that accepted such vouchers.. Our ride was about 40 minutes from the NE and we drove through farmland and countryside, then into a new development and then C9C! It was like a little journey away from the city. When we arrived at the theater it was not so crowded , which was a blessing for us! The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The seats are the rocker type and comfortable. After reading some of the other reviews I am amazed at some of the negative comments. Never has the popcorn been bad tasting. Generally the staff are efficient and rarely rude. We did have the bartender yell at us once to not go in the theater, but I am sure they deal with many customers being rude and trying to slip by to get good seats. The bar is fantastic! I have to admit that I love being able to get a drink and sit at the bar talking to the friendly bartenders instead of waiting in line for the doors to open. Why would you give this place a negative review? For those of us that watch their budget I am thankful this place exists. If we had to drive extra miles just to pay more money, with frankly no better experience, we wouldn't be able to enjoy the theater any more. So, thank you! The perfect place to end a day. We've come here many a times while visiting Forest Grove to see our niece who is at Pacific U. With every trip, we usually end each day with a late movie here at Cornelius 9. It's never crowded, the prices are reasonable (and offer a discount for university students), is place is clean, has a wide variety of snacks and is a quite comfortable theater with good picture and sound quality. That late at night we figured that it was only natural to have just 1 or 2 people running the whole place. So we've gotten used to seeing the same person sell us our tickets, then run behind the counter and take our order at the snack bar and then direct us to our theater room. We've only ever encountered very friendly and attentive staff, which is so refreshing after long days of sightseeing and adventuring. We absolutely love this theater, tucked away in Cornelius. It's our "IT" movie joint when in Oregon. read more

This Cinema is rarely busy which makes it appealing to me. Parking is always a snap. They are now serving beer and wine. $8 for a 22oz Rogue beer on draft and the pint was $6.50 so the prices are not great. The bar is set up in back of the main theater (#5 I think) and has a large TV. You can grab your beer and head to your movie or hang out if you're too early. I also like that you can butter your own popcorn and the free seasonings are nice. I especially like the bbq flavor. read more

Used to go weekly with my Family, Stopped after our favorite manager left and the quality went to the garbage bin. Gave them a chance after almost a year, and was even more let down than the previous visit. Its clear the current Management isn't enjoying their job, and is burnt out. Employee's do whatever they want, whenever they want, as no one is there to hold them accountable, the owner comes in one night a week, complains to his staff, and then goes and watches a movie. Bathrooms are filthy, Popcorn is lukewarm at best. The carpets have seen more spills and stains then you could imagine, but of course haven't been replaced. God forbid you ever enter a movie theater with the lights on, the curtains are some of the most disgusting things on earth, Pounds of dust, food stains, vomit stains, you name it, they soaked it up. Ownership likes to pretend to take an interest and will respond to complaints, but fails to do anything about it other than offer you free movie passes in a pretentious monotone voice. You'll come in again the following Friday and he'll be out of town instead of fixing his product. Yes these things take money, and you'd have more money if you took care of your business and kept talent instead of burnt out employees who are just cashing in a free pay check. I really love coming here to see a movie. The place is very clean and the staff is very friendly. It seems to me that the tickets are a couple bucks less than the "big" theaters. My husband loves that he can get popcorn and put his own butter and flavoring on it.
