My friend fell in love with the Chardonnay and we all loved the Zinfandel and the Cabernet, all wines winning several Gold and Silver Medals. I don't say this lightly when I call Corner 103 the ultimate hidden gem of downtown Sonoma. An unassuming but very sleek and modern wine tasting room with some of the boldest and richest wines in the Sonoma Valley. Founded and operated by Lloyd Davis, who began as a financier in New York City but fell in love with the art of wine-making as we should all hope to do one day. Lloyd wants his guests to know that they are the wine experts because only they can decide what wines they like and what wines they don't like. We came on a Sunday afternoon with a group of Yelp friends after having lunch together at a nearby cafe and one of us Yelpers was a huge wine connoisseur and we asked for his best recommendation of where to sample the best wines and he instantly recommended Corner 103 because of their extraordinary customer service and their special wines. Opened in 2015, Lloyd grows many of his wines from a vineyard that's about fifteen miles away from his tasting room. Although it is open by private reservation only, Lloyd was nice enough to open it up to our party of eight people at the very last minute thanks to James, the aforementioned wine connoisseur talking him into it. What is unique about Corner 103, is that Lloyd serves all of his wine in the appropriate wine glass, which are all different, and no doubt take hours to clean each and every day. They also have wines that nobody else in the region has because he needs to keep his wine club members engaged. The work he puts into his wine shows up in every sip. We started with the 2014 Corner Cuvee, appropriately served in a cuvee glass, it was the perfect sparkling wine to start our tasting with, second came the 2016 Viognier which was very crisp and refreshing, we also sipped on the 2014 Grenache, followed by my favorite the 2013 Tempranillo, in addition to the 2013 Cabernet Franc, which was smooth and oakey, with the 2014 Petit Sirah bringing up the rear, and had a nice dark fruit flavor to it. We learned so much during this tasting experience from the differences in your wine glass and how that affects the flavor of the wine when it hits your tongue, to the type of berries he likes to use that enhance the flavor of his wines, to even good wine etiquette such as smelling it correctly and volatilize your wine in your glass the right way before you sip it. It turns out this can take you from not loving a glass of wine to really liking it by changing the flavor profile of wine. Who knew? This once in a lifetime experience made me want to return almost immediately, especially since they have a food and wine experience with catered food on certain evenings. This impromptu wine tasting made me thankful that I was in the best place in the world sipping on some of the best wines I've ever tasted. Even though we weren't members, Lloyd was nice enough to give members in our party a wine member discount so I bought two bottles of the Tempranillo and the Grenache. Through his wine, I can see how Lloyd became so passionate about the wine he sells and pours every day. This is truly a one of a kind experience! But before you think you can just walk in off the streets and do a wine tasting or food and wine pairing, let me just say you need to make an appointment especially when it comes to the food & wine pairing as these take time to prepare. Our gracious host & owner of Corner 103, Lloyd, walked our group of 8 through his beginnings, how he got into the wine business and how he started Corner 103. Just listening to Lloyd talk about the grape varieties, how he picks his grapes from 14 Sonoma County properties with the exception of one being from Mendocino County, you can just hear the passion in his voice, the passion that he has for his wines that he is conveying to you while you are enjoying your tasting experience. And, unlike other tasting rooms, Lloyd does not serve each variety of wine in the same glass. As he stated to our group, each wine needs to be in the proper glass in order to truly experience the tasting from the bouquet to the flavors. I mean, would you serve sparkling wine in a Bordeaux glass instead of a flute or champagne glass, or a Cabernet Franc in a Guinness glass? No you wouldn't and that is why Lloyd serves each of his wines in the appropriate glass, to enhance your tasting experience. The tasting room has a couch with a table & chairs all around for one tasting area, and then towards the windows they have small and large tables with chairs which are perfect for the food & wine pairing. The tasting room has a very relaxed atmosphere so you don't feel pressured, and prices for the wines is very reasonable On this day we tasted 6 wines. First was the 2014 Corner Cuvée which was a nice sparkling wine, 2016 Viognier, 2014 Grenache, 2013 Tempranillo (I have never heard of Tempranillo until this day), 2013 Cabernet Franc and a 2014 Petit Sirah. All of these were unique in their own way. I have to say my favorites were the 2016 Viognier, though I loved them all. We started our trip to Sonoma with a tasting at Corner 103 and it is the highlight of our 6 day stay. We had the opportunity to taste 6+ different wines - each with an overview and explanation of the glass used and approach to tasting. The wines were excellent. The husband and I had an entire afternoon open and did not know how to fill our last day while visiting Northern California. We had spent a couple of days wine tasting and decided to explore a different area than where our hotel was. I am so glad that we did. We came across this winery by chance. We googled wineries in Sonoma and this one popped right up! However, reviews had said we needed an appointment. So the husband called and left a message. Within minutes, Lloyd returned his call and was able to book us. Upon arriving, Brent had set up a small table out on the sidewalk where we were able to see the action of the street and city center. This was one of our many stops tasting for our 25th anniversary. First of all the tasting room really is beautiful. The seating is comfortable and the host was knowledgeable and friendly. The wine was great! That's why we bought so many bottles. That being said, we've been to many many wineries and tasting rooms all over the west coast and in every single one when you buy wine, usually 2 bottles, your tasting fee is waived. Not here. After buying 6 bottles we didn't get our fee waived. That's just bad policy. I forgot I paid the fee in advance a few days before. So after I remembered I tried to get me fee back. It didn't happen. There really isn't any incentive to buy wine here unless you already know what the wine tastes like or your a member. read more

My fiancé and I walked in to Corner 103 on a whim and we were immediately greeted by Lloyd. (Totally forgot this place was by appointment only.. oops, should have checked Yelp beforehand.) But as there were only two other people inside, Lloyd let us join in and have a tasting as well. The tasting is 5 wines for $20. As there are 11 different wines to choose from, my fiancé and I just chose to share all of them to try. Lloyd took careful attention to describe each wine to us and taught us a fun way to remember how to do a proper tasting. Think of wine tasting as going out on a date! You can't be too judgmental on your first date, and by the third date you should know whether you enjoy this wine or not. Lloyd has so much knowledge, we were trying to soak it all in during our time there. He definitely made the tasting experience seem less intimidating and you will leave Corner 103 with confidence for next time you hang out with your wine snob friend. This was a cute little place to try wines from all over the Sonoma area, and they are all rated silver or gold. There was hand sanitizer on overt table, which I appreciated. It wasn't busy, so we got a lot of personal attention. For $20 each, we were able to sample 5 wines, choosing from 10 options. I really enjoyed the wines. We ended up buying a bottle of sparkling rosé, and I normally only like reds! Very cute atmosphere, good wines, and service was great. After reading about their experience, I checked the online calendar. Unfortunately, the calendar claimed that there were no openings, but because I was attempting to reserve 3 space the afternoon before we were to go, I took a chance and called directly. Fortunately, we were able to claim our seats at the table. When in doubt, call! The tasting & food pairing at Corner 103 was a highlight of our weekend in wine country that I won't forget. Wow, Corner 103 blew me away. It's phenomenal! The space is absolutely beautiful and intimate; everything was designed with impeccable care, and you won't find any of the typical wine tchotchkes often found in wineries (i.e., cheesy aprons or tacky wine glass charms). It's light and airy and the eye for interior design is inspiring. ALL of the wine is incredible. Most wineries or tasting rooms have a specialty (i.e., zinfandel or chardonnay), but everything Corner 103 was exquisite, from the sauvignon blanc and chardonnay, to pinot noir, zinfandel, red blend, cabernet sauvignon, and more. We were especially pleased that we ended up liking some of the wines we tend to steer away from, such as pinot noir and zinfandel, and ended up even buying bottes of those varietals. I honestly wanted to buy a bottle of every wine we tasted, everything had tremendous depth and full-body. The cheese pairing was fantastic. I have been to countless wineries and tastings, and it was incredible to sip a wine with cherry undertones, then sample with cheese and actual cherries - the flavors exploded and it really helped us understand the wine better. Having someone personally lead the tasting was incredible. At most wineries, customers are jostling at the wine counter competing for the hosts attention, so it's hard to really learn about the winery and the wines. Our host, Lloyd, explained everything in meticulous detail. He was incredibly patient and took the time to answer our questions knowledgeably. All in all, and incredible afternoon over Valentine's Day weekend. I absolutely recommend for a date, girls or guys afternoon out, or a family occasion. At 12 wine pairings, it actually ends up being very convenient (versus trying to hit up 3-4 separate wineries for the same number of tastings in an afternoon), and afterwards we walked around Sonoma square and grabbed some apps (and bought some of the cheese we sampled). We visited Corner 103 on the recommendation of a friend, and she definitely proved how good a friend she is! We actually planned our trip to make sure Corner 103 was open when we visited, because Sue had raved so much about it. We tasted 7 wines, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Merlot, Corner Cuvee and Cabernet Sauvignon. Melissa was our hostess, and she did an excellent job, especially considering my ignorance and the many questions I asked. I absolutely loved the Sauvignon Blanc, in fact I purchased 3 bottles. My next favorite was the Corner Cuvee, and I purchased three of them as well. We did the food & wine pairing, and as I'm not a pate fan, Lloyd substituted cheese for us. Communication was extremely easy via email, even when we had to cancel one person due to illness. The entire experience was wonderful, and I'm looking forward to coming back again to visit and drinking more of their delicious wine. What can I say that hasn't already been said by many others??? Lloyd truly does live up to his promise that he offers a tasting experience for those lucky enough to visit his tasting room. We have gone several times being Sonoma locals and always try to bring our friends in when they visit. This past Sunday we stopped in to pick up some wine for lunch at the Swiss and decided to make arrangements to come back with a couple of our friends in town. Even without reservations he was able to accommodate us...I guess it pays to be a wine club member. What I truly love about Corner 103 is that it is a much more intimate setting than other tasting rooms that pack us in like sardines. We observed several instances during our tasting experience where Lloyd turned away walk in business so that he can focus his time to educate us on not only where his wine comes from but how it is made. He really has a passion and it shows in his wines...which are amazing!!! I'm a member here and have been for about two years. This place is by FAR, one of the best I've ever been to. The staff is great, the owner is wonderful, the wines (all of them) are delicious. There have never been a tasting where I've hated any of the wines they've had. The experience is very informal and personal, the staff is attentive and personable. When Lloyd is around, he will talk to you and give you such helpful and additional information about the winery and their varietals where you feel privileged to be able to partake of the process. I think that it's one of the best wineries in the area for sure and I'm totally biased about in the state. I thoroughly recommend this winery and if you pass by, just come through. But! Matt totally made the experience amazing. We were guests at the fairmont Sonoma and the concierge recommended this place to us. This is not your usual tasting. We tasted over 8 wines with food pairings and along each tasting Matt guided us through the wine, the food pairing and with some funny stories.
