Sosie Wine Tasting Sonoma CA Sat 5/7/22

Stepped into magical world of Sonoma Court Shops heading initially next door to Sosie Wines... for Pinot at Fulcrum. Something stopped me from making it few steps further;)
Saw Sosie Wines tasting room, was greeted by Gigi, she's such an enthusiast of the winery! Sat outside in the Vine Alley by the fountain. Felt spectacular!
Loved Sosie, they're open now for about eleven months, fun place, the only tasting room, had some Pinot, brought home their sparkling, everything organic and naturally made (as winemaking process allows it) very personable which I prefer, or maybe just got lucky with Gigi there:-)
È spettacolare!
A taste of Pinot Noir 2017 from Spring Hill Vineyard, Sonoma Coast, to decide on the bottle. Very good, let's do it! Lovely.
So here's what's coming to your nose: black tea (the only kind I drink!), Cherry (love!), juniper & hibiscus. And to your mouth: ripe plum (oh yeah!) & strawberry with equal measures of nutmeg, caraway seed, clove and vanilla. $45 bottle.
Harvest day: 6 Sept 2017, aged 21 Mos. in 40% new oak. You can find all the details right on the bottle: elevation 500ft., soils, clones, fermentation process.
Farmed organically and only 5 barrels made! Instantly feels exclusive. 95 points, Anthony Dias Blue. You can only taste these wines here at the wine room.
Sosie (pronounced So-Zee) is French for look-alike or double. The concept in my interpretation: small artisan shop. Wines produced in small batches with minimal intervention and the lightest touch of oak, inspired by the wines of France. Owners Regina and Scott aim at pairing California grown wines with French soul. The soul which tells them when to pick the grapes and how to treat it in the cellar. They employ an old school approach to wine growing that favors restraint over ripeness, finesse over flamboyance. To make it food friendly akin French Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire, Rhone... to craft California wines that are their sosie.
One third through the bottle, my mood turned to bubbly. Gigi brought out the cork for the Pinot to take back home, and three tastes of Sparkling:
*First Things First* - 2019 Sparkling white Brut Nature, 100% Roussanne. $36 bottle.
*Bare Necessity* - 2019 Sparkling Rosé, Methode Champenoise, $36 bottle.
*A Moment of Weakness* - 2019 Sparkling Red, Methode Champenoise, $40 bottle. Plums, boysenberry, cardamom on the nose. Ribbons of blackberry & raspberry. This bubbly somehow is both creamy and zesty. It finishes dry, with orange peel & baking spice.
How can something this mysterious and brooding be so lip smacking and joyful? It's all about the bubbles!
First Things First! Barrel fermented with full ML, then aged in neutral oak for 6 months, before its 2nd fermentation in bottle. Aromas of apricot, orange and brioche. Rich and creamy with a beam of ripe fruit.
So I did things unconventionally, laughing - in backwards order!
Since tasting fee is waived with purchase of any 2 bottles, and I bought 3, I got to try from both lists: Tasting Menu - 5 wines / $35 and Reserve Tasting Menu - 5 wines / $45. I won't bore you with the wines as I'm sure current releases will change with future visits. Plus, you gotta discover it for yourself. All you truly gotta know: Sosie is the place to be at!
Gigi at Sosie is an amazing sommelier!
Buonissimo!
Cheers!
*I wanna forgive and forget, and poison all my enemies
Beat the savage drums of war all night, and in the morning pray for peace
Baby, I don't ever wanna die, And I wanna hear the angels sing
I wanna give every dime I own, I want all the gold for me
I want everything, hmm I want everything
