whewww, what an experience! I had the pleasure of visiting Scribe as one of my gal pals is a member here. What a standout winery! It's members only (plus entourage) and we were able to enjoy a bites pairing with our wine tasting on their hacienda. Upon checking in, we were given a complimentary "splash" (it was more than that) of their rosé of pinot noir, then shown to our table. The grounds are gorgeous- it feels very secluded and the design and layout was spectacular. We were served by Fran, who was so knowledgeable and had some super cool tattoos that my friends and I were in awe of. We tried the sylvaner, chardonnay, syrah, and pinot noir. The light bites were delicious as well and were filling for our group of 5! They brought out a salad with rosemary roasted almonds, anchovy vinaigrette, fried olives, blistered shishito peppers, green beans and gigante beans, and toast with roasted tomatoes, dill, basil, and a cheese(?). Everything was so fresh and such a delicious pairing with our drinks. We also got a splash of their vermuth at the end. We were told that Scribe acquired some of the property next door so they'll be focusing on estate wine creation. This was such a delightful experience and I'd love to return to check out the small shop they have onsite (it was closed when we visited). Thanks Scribe! read more

I can honestly say this was probably the BEST winery experience I've had in wine country. I've done a few wine tastings around the area and nothing compared to this! My girls and I went for my best friend's birthday and we honestly had such a wonderful time. When you call and inquire they tell you that non-members can only book on weekdays, so my girls and I made a reservation on a Friday. You pay up front for the total amount of people, which also includes tax and service tip, so when you arrive on the day of your reservation, no payment whatsoever is needed! It was $85, and with tax and service fee it came out to $111 each. When my girls and I arrived, we were greeted by a host named, Justin. She was immensely warm and inviting, basically sunshine in a person, and made us feel so welcome and comfortable!! She poured us a welcome glass of rose, and my girls and I were able to walk around the property (which was truly stunning) with our glasses. When we were seated, we were served rosemary almonds, and our server came up and introduced the history of the venue, as well as the menu, and wine. The menu was set, and it was absolutely incredible. This was the first time I felt as though this experience included an actual MEAL rather than an array of small bites or a small charcuterie platter: 1. fried olives 2. tomatoes and cucumbers with whipped feta (MY FAVORITE) 3. Prosciutto, melon and basil 4. Braised butterbeans with SCRIBE olive oil 5. House-made flatbread (so delicious) The wine was amazing, of course. We received about 4 glasses of 3 oz pours, which was enough for us. The Chardonnay was definitely my favorite. If you're ever in the Sonoma area, I HIGHLY recommend making a reservation you honestly WILL NOT REGRET IT. read more

The nicest people all around, Scribe was so visually stunning that even on a cold day, you preferred to sit outside to enjoy the views. We were sat promptly with a pour in hand already, and had a gorgeous view of the lemon trees and property. I cant remember our hosts name but she was super sweet, never pushy in us buying anything or liking anything. They brought out multiple blankets for us for the chilly weather and we waited about 10 minutes after being sat to get our snacks. The food was all so fresh, with lots of great flavor but also feeling healthy- we particularly loved the arancini and the bread with oil. The wines were all tasty but honestly, not as memorable as the views/staff/food- I think this winery is definitely worth a visit for those elements alone. The Scribe experience is truly like no other. My friends and I were visiting from Seattle and had been wanting to come here for a while. We were so pleased to know we could get on the waitlist for a tasting. First of all, the grounds are insanely beautiful. The architecture of the house and surrounding landscape was gorgeous. We were immediately enchanted. I was concerned with the high price (coming from Seattle) for the tasting, however, the food pairings made it all worth it! Absolutely delicious bites paired with fantastic wine - the standouts being the Rose and the Cabernet Sauvignon. I was so impressed with Scribe that I joined their membership despite not living nearby. The first shipment literally came days later. Unreal! WOW! Easily the best winery I've ever visited, with incredible service and delicious wines. Our wine expert was Justin, and she was incredible. Not only was she knowledgeable about all the wines, but she had lovely anecdotes to share about the winery's history and the region. As a subscriber who had never visited Scribe before, this visit was everything I could have hoped for and more. I first signed up in November 2023, and while I've heard that industry-wide, subscribers typically drop their subscription after 18 months, I plan on staying a SVS member for the foreseeable future. Not only is Scribe on the cutting edge of wines, but they're future proofing themselves by getting young people into wine. If I was an investor, I'd throw all the money I have at them. As a subscriber, they'll continue to be my winery of choice and the place I purchase my nice wines from. The Hacienda Tasting had delicious food and wine pairings that truly satisfied. It was also lovely to be able to wander the grounds after we finished our tasting. I cannot recommend Scribe enough. read more

My family took me here for a birthday celebration and it was a nice. They offer a good tasting with wine pairings at outside tables overlooking the area. You are given a tasting when you arrive and then you are seated. The food tastings change with different chefs coming in every so often. The chef this time was Italian. They are very sensitive to dietary needs and will make adjustments. A new wine tasting was presented with each new dish. There was a total of four. We had different Pinot noirs and a reisling All were quite nice. They have a membership program and if you do the testing, you will take your scheduled wine with you when you leave. Went last week and had a very disappointing experience. We had such high hopes after previous experiences. Brought our daughter and her friend for their first Sonoma tasting and it was sub par. The greet wine was the Nouveau Pinot which was not drinkable by anyone in our quartet. We were sat inside because the weather was poor and the dog of the party next to us immediately puked everywhere. I realize this is not Scribes fault but maybe consider groups with dogs should only be allowed to sit outside. No one wants to smell a wet puking dog. The hostess kindly reseated us elsewhere but the dog was taken outside twice past our seats I assume to relieve himself. Ummmmm gross. Leave your large dog at home. The food was below average at best. The bread was the best part. The salads were all soggy, like they had been sitting all day. The rest of the wines were not great either. We were brought the skin on Chard which I already have at home as part of the Fall shipment. I do not need to "try" it here. I asked for tastes of the Atlas Cab and Syrah for my guests which earned the three stars. They are both great. The service was fine. We proceeded to go out doors to take some pics on our way out and the dog ran into my wife. His drunk owners were unapologetic. We won't be back to Scribe for a while. Seems to be slipping. One of the prettiest wineries I've been to, it felt smaller than most but more cozy and a different experience since you can actually walk around the house and into the open kitchen. I came here for a work event with around 30 people and the service and food was so good, everything tasted great and you can tell a lot of effort was put in. I loved the wines here, I actually couldn't keep up since we were getting so many options/refills. The only issues is there were a lot of fruit flies around and they would sometimes fly into your drink lol. But they'll give you a new one with no problem! Well thought out, beautiful and well executed, Scribe Winery is a spot for people who aren't in Sonoma on a wine bus, but who want to linger and hang out. It's gorgeous, and it's spendy. Located right next to Gundlach Bundschu Winery, one of the original family-owned wineries in the area, Instagram-friendly Scribe operates out of a renovated 19th century hacienda, formerly the home of a German business partner to Gundlach Bundschu, back in the early days of Sonoma winemaking. Today, after cycling through years as a brothel and turkey farm, the hacienda was purchased, renovated and it now graces the pages of Architectural Digest (a 2017 AD article features Scribe's transformation.) The result is a stylish setting and enjoyable wines and wine experiences catering mostly to millennials, but potentially with wider appeal. We had a positive service experience at the Hacienda and later at the picnic area. Options to taste at Scribe require that you join their wine club first, and include a considered but casual picnic ($35 a person and family friendly) on the lawn with fresh breads (Acme) and cheeses (Cowgirl Creamery and a goat with herbs and olive oil) and nibbles where you are asked to purchase a bottle, or at their Hacienda ($75 a person) for a side-by-side tasting to compare wines with snacks. This is more of a destination for several hours type place, rather than a quick stop. Enjoyable & very pretty. Definitely you'll need an appointment. read more

We stopped very briefly at this winery after a very disappointing experience at another. It was very clear that this was not a "family-friendly" sort of experience, but the host was very gracious. We were informed that tastings were by appointment only but that they could squeeze us in. Unfortunately, we had already wasted our appetites on another subpar experience. Despite having kids in tow, they treated us with respect, gave us a small sample and let us view the hacienda just out of courtesy. I was so amazed by the hacienda, and the beautiful floral arrangements (as a person trained in floral arranging nowhere near that good). I would have been ecstatic to try their sampling menu, and plan to return on our next trip to the area to take them up on that spot I wish I had taken. In the meantime, I have wine ordering forms that I will be using. read more

The wines are superb and the food pairing is exceptional. First know that you need to be a member or know a member for a tasting ( we were invited). Each tasting is paired with revolving gourmet cuisine prepared by top chefs. The spacious setting offers many places to enjoy wine-- indoors in their main building; outdoors with incredible views; and a patio with comfortable seating. Knowledgeable hosts cater to your wine preferences and provide detailed tasting notes: we were fortunate to have Aaron serve our party of 6- he was upbeat, fun, and shared some great insights on all the varietals. It's rare that I like every selection at a wine tasting, but without a doubt these were all extraordinary- from a dry Rose to a world class Pinot to a deliciously bold Cab. My friends are members here and they love it. We got the wine tasting with the board. They gave one board per couple and the contents of the board depends on their specials. The tasting with the board is about $90 which is really good. In our board we had a lot of fresh ingredients from their garden in the vineyard. It was really good. It was more of a typical charcuterie board. My friends said last time they had friend chicken on their board. So, it just depends. The wine in the tasting varies as well depending on the bottles they have. We loved their whites. The aesthetic is really nice. They have a tasting area and a picnic area. The server is really nice and very knowledgeable about the wine in the area and in the vineyard. We ended up buying a couple more bottles on top of the tasting. They don't have a time limit on their tables so it's really nice and we didn't feel rushed. It was really fun and it's a super chill place. It wasn't crowded when we went. We purchased wine to take home as well. Highly recommend! We went again the second time and we did the picnic style which is open seating. It was so hot that day but they gave us free ice popsicles to cool us down which was nice. They have benches with tables, blankets if you want to sit on the ground, or deck chairs to just lounge. I came here as a work event. The pros: absolutely beautiful ambiance. The whole vibe inside and out was gorgeous, and I felt more like I was in a foreign country than Sonoma. The food that we got was also super tasty. And, our servers and all the people who worked there were really lovely. The cons: the wine was.... Not great. I know I'm particular with wine and it's all subjective, but it just didn't do it for me. Also, the food was odd in that we were given a "bites" plate but no real suggestion on how to pair it, which also could have impacted the wine flavors. And lastly, the price. Wine tastings can vary for sure, but $70 (that is NOT waived when you're a member...) for a bit of food and a flight is a little absurd for this area. Especially since you have to be a member to visit, but then the tastings aren't even discounted, it seems wild to me that people would choose this place over the wealth of others out there. I'd come back if someone paid for me (like this last time, since it was work), but I wouldn't seek this place out on my own dime. read more

Scribe blew me away, truly. From the gorgeous drive up to the property, the rows of veggies growing in their garden, and most importantly, the wine is amazing. We made a reservation (required) for a party of 3 for a Friday morning around 11am. We arrived a bit early so took the opportunity to walk around the house and property, the lighting was gorgeous and made for some really nice photos. The house on the inside and out was a literal MOOD, one that I want to be in each day. The craftsman style modern farmhouse feels were something from a magazine. The courses are fixed, with a family/tapas style small bites with a generous pairing of wine. As a part of the pairing, we received a variety of veggies and lettuce that was picked from their garden that day, the freshness and flavor was unbelievable. Every single wine we tried was enjoyable from start to finish. We went home with a Rose and Chardonnay but regret not grabbing a few more bottles. I remember 3 years ago when I was driving by and I was like oh what is this place and I came to drive up to it and after seeing it up close I immediately fall in love with them. The story behind this winery is so cute and inspiring. (Highly recommend reading about them). Now I am a wine club member with this. Also use their wines to give out to my clients. I was really, really looking forward to our reservation at Scribe and I really, really wanted to love Scribe. Whether I was having an off day or the Winery was having an off day is yet to be determined but I know for certain I did not have the same experience so many other Yelpers wrote about before me. In fact, so many other Yelpers spoke so, so highly of the service and that is the very thing that was lacking during my visit on Friday, March 22nd. We arrived on time, parked in the lot, and rain through the rain to the Hacienda where we were haphazardly greeted and taken to a long table just off the kitchen. We were brought our first wine (2018 Rose of Pinot Noir) and some almonds, olives, and watermelon radish. The wine was great and the food decent but I was left wanting information regarding the beautiful building, background on the wine, and just conversation in general from our waitress. I don't know if it was because we were seated at a table with another group at the other end or if it was because so many people passed through that room but our staff member dropped things off at our table and quickly went on her way. We also had the 2016 Estate Chardonnay and the halibut, herbed rice, and lettuce came out. A short while later, we were asked if we wanted to switch tables in order to sit at a table "with the best views." Of course we said yes but things got even weirder at that point. I am so very perplexed as to why we were moved mid-meal and our plates did not follow. Sure, the dishes (halibut, etc.) moved but my plate had half of a piece of halibut on it which just vanished. We were instructed to bring our wine to the new table, not our dishes. This really, really rubbed me the wrong way. We enjoyed the final two wines (2017 Estate Pinot Noir and 2016 Atlas West Cabernet Sauvignon) at the new table in the new room but I barely touched the food that was relocated because I was splitting it with two other people and our share-portions went out the window when our plates didn't show up. Honestly, I am really turned off by the experience we had at Scribe Winery. When the remainder of the food went uneaten, no one said anything or inquired if everything was ok. As we were leaving, I couldn't help but notice our original table had one large group sitting at it which made me think we were moved to accommodate this larger group. While I do think the grounds are beautiful, I would not recommend Scribe Winery due to the experience I had while visiting on a Friday evening in late March of 2019. I'm just disappointed I won't be giving Scribe another chance to see if the service so many have raved about in the past resurfaces again in the future. read more

One of my most favorite wineries in all of Sonoma County and Napa Valley. All the wines are fabulous, the views are stunning, and seasonal bites are delicious! The staff is friendly, inviting, and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is chill and relaxed. Scribe makes several varietals and everything is done very well. My favorites are the pétillant naturel wines, rosé, pinot noir, and Syrah. The seasonal bites are brought out for you to nibble throughout your tasting, so not necessarily a "pairing" per se. The food is farm to table and they're able accommodate dirty restrictions. Takes a bit of planning to visit as reservations book up to 90 days out, but definitely worth the drive for a visit. read more

I kept seeing the word "hipster" come up in all the reviews of this place and I didn't understand it until I visited... it's definitely a unique Napa / Sonoma experience! The Hacienda oozes summer cool with its funky wines and legit farm-to-table food pairings (the garden is literally being worked in front of you). The winery felt like a cross between Cuba and Brooklyn -- but when "hipster" was actually chill and unpretentious. The wine hosts were super friendly and didn't need flowery tasting notes -- they gave you some background history of the wines and style, but otherwise didn't overload you adjectives and chatter. Sometimes "awesome" is sufficient to describe a wine and can leave it at that! Reservations required (phone only) and they only offer the food + wine pairing on the Hacienda to the public ($60 or $40 if you do food only). The hilly Knoll picnic area looked amazing from all the previous reviews and photos but that was for members only so we didn't check it out. We were plenty happy in our cozy nook on the Hacienda overlooking the garden. The kitchen was super accommodating with dietary requirements (1 vegetarian, 1 pregnant lady!) and we were wowed by the fresh salads, marinated olives + feta, grilled summer veggies, Model bakery breads, and fresh fruits. They even made a delicious strawberry rhubarb mocktail for me! The service was super chill and friendly and didn't rush us at all. We ended up buying a 500ml bottle of their skin fermented Chardonnay to enjoy after our pairing. They were also amazing to our dogs who were a bit more restless than usual because it was particularly hot that day. Scribe has it all. A beautiful setting with rolling hills, palm trees and a goregous 1800 era hacienda home to top it off. The pet nat and Syrah were my favorites. Service has degraded over time. This is my experience with the picnic on the knoll. I will note that you get the same amount of picnic goodies for two people even when you have three (which you are charged for). Being the last reservation of the day, we felt rushed to leave. There was no last call and the 20% gratuity seems overly generous for the lack of service. Our picnic was cleared without our asking when we stepped away for a second. We were clearly not done. The beautiful views of Scribe Winery are not to be missed. You sit overlooking a vast terrace of vineyards--this is a place that requires reservations, so make them in advance. Uniquely, this is also one of few wineries that offer food (which comes automatically with every wine tasting)--a pre-set, family-style meal of local ingredients, some from the garden right outside! After a few pours of wine, we started with a platter of snacks: local roasted almonds, green/black olives in olive oil, and pickled purple carrots. The family-style meal continued with lettuce greens dressed in vinaigrette, charred asparagus with miso and sesame, and a unique vermouth-cured halibut with chile vinaigrette. There was also a bowl of medium-grain white rice with Persian cucumber and garden chive--everything was tasty and very Californian: seasonal, local, and incorporating Asian, Mediterranean, and European flavors! For the views, the great food, and friendly service, Scribe is worth a visit, though the four wines weren't really to our taste, and the tasting with food is a bit on the expensive side at $60 a head. read more

Just visited today for a friends birthday. And wow! Kid friendly. KID FRIENDLY. Kid friendly!!! I loved seeing so many kids around. I mean 5 stars just for that. You have all these wineries that are no kids allowed, but not this one. It was a breath of fresh air to be able to go do a wine tasting with a killer food spread and have your kids with you. There's a lovely indoor area with a fireplace and couch set. They have plenty of gorgeous outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the kitchen. The views are breathtaking. Food: bread, three cheeses, dates, almonds, olives, fennel salad, walnuts, orange slices... so fresh, so healthy, so tasty. Wine: Chardonnay was clean, crisp and dry and Syrah was fruity and delicious. Scribe Winery is one of the more aesthetic wineries in Sonoma because of the beautiful Hacienda house and the gardens surrounding the property. The service is good, the wine is better but as a Scribe fan and member, I have to point out how ungenerous the pours are for the Hacienda Tasting. For the Hacienda Tasting, you're paying $75 per person for a seat around the perimeter of the house and for five tastings. I recently went for the second time and it lost some of the luster it had the first time due to this stinginess. It appears that you could opt for the cheaper Knoll Tasting for $35 but from what I can tell it is just a blanket reservation to sit on the grass and doesn't include any wine. However, for $35 + $40ish per bottle you'd purchase there, it's roughly the same price as the Hacienda Tasting but you'll get more wine. I personally wanted a seat and to taste more varietals so this isn't an option I'd ever chose but Scribe still needs to improve on their offerings. For the tasting, we enjoyed the Estate Riesling, a Carneros Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Sparkling Mission. We liked all the wines and left with a bottle of the 2020 St. Laurent as it was a varietal we were unfamiliar with and we thought it'd pair well with dinner. The Mission Sparkling was an intriguing sparkling chilled red wine similar to a lambrusco. I was reconsidering my membership here, not because we don't like the wine but because there aren't enough perks with this membership. This membership only requires you to pay for the shipments but my preference would be that their membership have a small annual fee, which would have at least one free tasting a year plus first access to their new wines. I want to give them a five star review for their wine but unfortunately I can't justify it due to their current membership protocols. read more

The rośe was my favorite wine of all the wines in Napa. It pays to be a member, they have a separate beautiful outside seating area with tables and blankets. The prices on bottles are really good when sharing with a few other people even though you'll want the whole bottle to yourself. Luckily we were able to grab a table and hang out for awhile.
