What a beautiful and serene winery! The thing that I've commonly needed about Sonoma wineries if that they're more down to earth than Napa wineries but the wine is just as good! The friend that took us here mentioned how she likes that you never feel rushed. I see why people purchase wine club memberships now. As a Pendulum wine club member she gets wine pick ups, discounts, and unlimited tastings with three guests. The setting is beautiful! So many flowers. Nicely shaded picnic benches with umbrellas. They have a large fish pond and it's 25 cents for a cup of fish food to feed the turtles and koi. This is one of the most family friendly wineries I've seen. Many people bring their kids. They have corn holes too. Fancy and Pudding were the highlight! I reached out and felt like a Disney princess having one of them come to me for pets. The restrooms were very clean as well! It was fun browsing the store too. And of course the tasting and charcuterie board were a fantastic experience. I loved the cheeses and almonds they had. We had the option of deviating from the tasting menu. But everything we tasted was great! I think you can also bring your own snacks. It's a great winery experience. To start I want to say our first visit here was amazing. The staff in the tasting room were really good and suggested some really good wines which we were able to taste as well. We ended up buying 6 bottles back then. Also the kids liked feeding the fish in the pond. This time we visited during the Labor day long weekend on a Sunday. There were considerably more people here compared to our last visit. The staff member in the tasting room was disinterested from the start. We told her that we really loved the Cashmere Black last time and wanted to get that and some more. She just handed us the wine list and waited for us. There was an awkward pause. I requested if we could taste a couple of the recommended wines to which she hesitated. I tried addressing the situation by asking her why there was some resistance and also assured her I would pay for a tasting if that was an issue. She did end up suggesting some good wines (and taste a few). We ended up buying 5 bottles this time. Cline Family Cellars is a family owned sprawling Vineyard with beautiful landscaping. We are told some of the trees there are as old as 300 years. They have several areas ear marked for events, tastings- both indoor and outdoor. Several picnic tables are available. There are water bodies, plenty of onsite parking. We had a really fun, informal tasting at the bar. The bartender talked to us the whole time about the wines and gave a great tasting. So I first visited this winery back in the mid 2000s. Totally loved that tasting as it was super mellow on a weekday early afternoon and I totally got introduced to this winery's offerings. Fast forward to present day and they seem much more popular as the tasting room was very busy even for a weekday out. But they seem to have adjusted to that as you can taste standing up in the tasting room or go have a seat outdoors anywhere within the building and get the pours brought to you, for just $10 more per flight tasting. I chose the latter as coming from a road trip, I just wanted a stop to relax and smell the roses. Well a glass of NorCal red will do here. First I will point out that their grounds are immaculate. Most wineries are, but some are more rustic/farm-like. This one is very manicured and geared for tourist. The vibe also is very Southern to me, like Georgia plantation. The house/visitor's building has this southern charm to it with a covered wooden porch that wraps around the whole building. Some of the outdoor tastings are held here, especially in non-peak hours as the employees won't have to go too far for pours. I found being out on that porch very relaxing, they even had soft volume reggae piped from the stealthy speaker system. A tad warm that day, but I was taking that over the stuffy tasting room where people were standing elbow to elbow. Got to taste about 5 wines. I told my host/pourer that I was mostly into red wines, so she improvised the printed tasting a bit, and I always appreciate that. I tasted 1 rose (Vin Gris) which was actually phenomenal as I usually just find most roses to be meh. This one was special, more complex, just not sweet and fruity. The tastings on this out were more geared for the grapes grown in their Sonoma vineyards. Tasted 2 pinot noirs from 2 different areas, 1 zin and 1 cabernet sauvignon. I did remember on my first out here that the tasting was more geared towards their Rhone style grapes/blends. I didn't get any of that on this out. I more than usually will buy a few bottles from a winery, and this place will waive the tasting fee, if you buy 2 bottles or more. Which I find super fair and awesome. I always give the crooky side eye to those wineries that still charge $30+ for a tasting even after purchasing over $80 in wine. (Side-eye straight to Napa wineries). I also found the wines here to be of great value and nothing was really over-the -top. Most wines were like between $28 to $60. Didn't really see anything over that, as most places do these days. I didn't get a sense that they were out to produce luxurious rich and heavy wines. I just sense bright yet with structure wines meant to go with food. And I am always a fan of that, as I can't wait to pair my take-home bottles with a good meal. read more

We were on our way to another winery when we stumbled upon Cline for a quick pit stop. We loved it immediately and decided to sign up for a membership! They make the membership experience super simple. We come up every quarter or so for a free wine tasting and to pick up our wines. The membership makes sense if you gift or drink 3 wine bottles a quarter. It's easy to make a reservation online or to walk in. They just opened up their clubhouse in the back which is only open to members. You can also sit outdoors around the patio or on their benches with umbrellas. My favorite part about Cline is that they host tons of events, almost once every month. They come at a small cost to members. I have yet to make one but plan to in the future! Beautiful winery with an expansive wine list and great service! I recently visited for the first time and will definitely be back. The property was amazing - surrounded by vineyards, multiple tasting facilities, ponds, cabanas, picnic areas, donkeys, this place really had it all! They had a lot of traditional wines you'd expect to see in the area, as well as some less common and less known varietals. We enjoyed tasking both the known and lesser known and enjoyed many of them. Our favorites from the tasting were the Eight Spurs Zin and the Hat Straw Chardonnay. If I had more space for wine I would've left with much more than the 3 bottles I took. It was really fun learning about the winery and its history. From its roots in Contra Costa County to its current home in Sonoma and all of the different vineyards they have, it truly is a cool story. We were very lucky to experience some behind the scenes action and get to see a lot of the property. Looking forward to coming back again and trying more wine! read more

Came here to enjoy Father's Day and also share a bit of wine country with my visiting family. The host and the woman who sat us were very pleasant and friendly. Honestly the wine was just ok compared to other places but I do really enjoy their dessert wine that they give you a piece of chocolate with. I had to dock a few stars because unfortunately our server made a rude comment and didn't leave us with the best experience. We were enjoying our picnic with our wine tasting and we made a joke saying "where have you been, we're thirsty!" To which our server replied, "well in America, you eat your food then you drink wine" while he was probably trying to make a joke, it just was really distasteful to say a comment like that to my visiting guests. The pros of visiting cline is that it is a nice property especially on a nice day where you can enjoy a picnic and wine. Cons of cline is that the wines are just ok in my opinion (with the exception of the dessert wine) and your experience will depend on who you have serving you. read more

I was lucky enough to visit Cline Family Cellars while on a trip to SF in September of 2022. It came highly recommended by my brother because of its gorgeous grounds. He wasn't wrong! The entire place is stunning with vineyards, ponds, little trails, a cute farmhouse, and many different seating areas. There was a wedding the day we visited so I didn't get to see the entire grounds since some of it was blocked off for the ceremony. Even with that limitation, what I did see was really beautiful. I especially liked the trails that had signs detailing some of the history of the land including the Indigenous people. The staff was friendly and were kind enough to offer to snap a group photo for us and gave my brother's dog plenty of treats. The tasting was great too! I'm no expert when it comes to wine so I'm pretty happy with any wine tasting I get to experience. I highly recommend Cline Family Cellars if you're exploring Sonoma county! read more

I can't believe I forgot to review this one from my Yelp San Fran Edition!! Cline Family Cellars was by far one of the best experiences we had in Sonoma and Northern California in general. The property is well manicured and beautiful. The staff is incredibly kind and so knowledgeable about the wines they have available, including pairings. We opted for the Sauvignon blanc with a charcuterie board, both of which were absolutely stunning. Our server, Kent, was able to teach us so much about the wine and give great recommendations. He was definitely a highlight of the experience! It was so nice to walk around the grounds and look at the clone family history and meet their two resident donkeys! I'll be recommending this winery to any and all of my friends visiting Sonoma! We made a reservation for the Deeply Rooted tasting online, which costs $25pp, and put down $10pp as a deposit. The tasting, which we thought would be 4 wines, ended up being 7 (Cline kindly poured us an additional - Pinot Noir - upon request). We got to try a great variety of Cline's wines, including some more unique varietals, many of which are staff favorites. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly. The person leading our tasting was personable and did a great job explaining the wines and patiently answering all of our questions. The piece of sea salt dark chocolate paired with the final dessert wine was a nice way to end our time. Even though it was raining pretty heavily when we visited, the tent provided a nice space to enjoy the wines, and the grounds with water feature are so pretty. We had such a lovely time here with the kids and our dog. There are so many shaded and beautiful spots to wine taste. I loved that for a pretty popular winery, the tasting fee ($25) is waived with 2 bottle purchase. and especially liked that they have bottles starting at $20 which makes it a no-brainer to take some home! You can book tasting by the pond and in a private cabana as well, though the pond is bottle service only, and you can just walk around the ponds later. Super kiddo friendly spot- they brought our kids crayons and a huge coloring sheet that was a map of the grounds that we used as kind of a scavenger hunt map. There are two donkeys, a fish pond (very very hungry fish!). Bring quarters to buy fish food! And there are just so many lovely trails around the ponds and throughout the grounds. We had a ton of fun exploring. Also great charcuterie board for $25!! Nice mix of hard and soft cheese, meat and crackers. I feel that a lot of charcuterie boards have gotten really lame since the pandemic, but this one made up for all the bad ones I've had recently! Had a fabulous time at Cline! We came at the earliest seating 1030 am on a Sunday and were one of the few tables there. It was nice because it was quiet and had a lot of attention from their hosts! We did the regular tasting and they were so nice and gave us an extra tasting of their famous Zinfandel. In general, the place is such a nice venue for wine tasting with lovely views and plenty of space to walk around. We had our pups with us and they brought us milk bones! Great winery for a day trip to Sonoma! I've come to Cline quite a few times now and I've been a pendulum club member for about a year. Usually my trips are very smooth and the staff is friendly. This is also one of the more affordable wine tastings available in the area and they have a great outdoor patio. The staff is great at explaining the different wines and really love their charcuterie boards and other knick knacks they sell inside. However on my last trip I was a little disappointed. I had called earlier that I was going to be a little late and showed up right at the new time they mentioned and got seated. However, once we were seated no one came to start our tasting and the staff was being stand off ish when we asked about the tasting, saying they were unable to serve us. After much discussion they finally realised that they had forgotten about our table and were friendly enough to still do a tasting before closing time. Fine wine but inattentive service and very small pours compared to normal tasting rooms. Servers come by basically providing the tasting notes that were on the menu (3 words per wine). Tastings are all done out of the same small stemless glass. On multiple occasions we were left with empty an empty glass for minimum of 10 minutes, even while place was not very busy. Whereas normal tastings provide adequate wine to enjoy before the glass was empty, these pours were max of 2 small sips. Lastly, upon checking in with the host (who is situated in the parking lot and looks like a valet), we were told to wait by the roses in the front garden. We were seated on the lanai closest to the pond and there were tons of bugs plastered on the ceiling and walls. We were reassured they weren't mosquitos, but when they started invading the wine, the food, and even us, we asked to move across the way. Beautiful grounds. Just left Cline winery. We were there for membership pick up and we were treated rudely by Kate, an older lady, who was serving us at the membership club. We were at our last tasting and told us that we already had our final tasting which is supposed to be 7 not 6. We asked her if she had a sparkling wine opened for us to taste and that's when things got heated. She told us NO and said she couldn't because we already had our last one. We said no we only had 6, we weren't even buzz so it wasn't that is the reason she refused to serve us. We told her we were patiently waiting and then she said SO, WHAT DO YOU WANT in a harsh tone, my brother in law, who is the main member for 20 years was so mad that he left and disappointed that we're treated rudely. I love Cline Old Vine Zin (Contra Costa) which I can find in many local grocery stores. So when I planned my trip to Sonoma, I added Cline and the heritage(?) tasting flight to my plan. Due to running ahead of schedule, I tried to get into Cline about 1.5 hours ahead of my appointment. The parking lot wasn't even half full and only a couple of outdoor tables were occupied in the tasting area. Nevertheless, I was denied entry. I thought it was a joke at first, but turned out not to be. So, 1.5 hours later we returned and strangely still had to hang out by the host station until a rather frantic person carrying an open wine bottle just pointed and said, "Jason?" I nodded and we were led to a table which had been set with new glasses but had not been wiped down from the previous guests. Our server came by quickly and cleaned up. After that, it was a pretty regimented pouring session with the same preface and salutation at the table by the server with a memorized label description in between. They honored my industry discount, so I bought one bottle. The discount didn't comp my tastings, surprisingly. My favorite wine, the Old Vine Zin, is cheaper in a grocery store than I could buy at the winery with my discount. So I didn't buy any of that. The grounds are nice here and is probably a great place to come with a picnic and buy a bottle and enjoy. But for a tasting experience, very meh. read more
