I'd never heard of a Corner Bakery until a recent trip to Chicago. When I saw one here while visiting Irving, I decided to swing by for a quick bite to eat. Although I arrived 5 minutes before they closed, it still took 10 minutes for them to take our order and still managed to forget something in our order. I ordered a Loaded (actually not very loaded at all) Baked Potato soup in a bread bowl and they forgot the bread bowl. We took it to go and I didn't realize it until I arrived home and by then it was too late. The food wasn't too yummy because the soup was so salty and the bread tasted rather stale. i'm sure they can provide better service and I might have caught them on an off day, but I don't think I'll be returning any time soon. I have never been a fan of this place and always preferred Jasons deli. However, they now have a Green chile and chicken panini which is fantastic . Autumn-roasted green chiles, all-natural roasted chicken, crisp jicama slaw, diced tomatoes and white cheddar cheese with roasted garlic mayo. They also have a Chicken Tortilla soup which has a zing to it and matches the panini very well. If they remove the panini ,I will go back to giving them 2 stars. My annoyance here comes from how bland I tend to find everything at Corner Bakery breakfast. I wasn't in the mood for oatmeal, so I went for the All American, which is a lump of bright yellow scrambled eggs, a couple of strips of bacon, some toast, and some potatoes. I didn't care for the potatoes and the eggs were fine after some Tabasco. My toast was soggy and the bacon was very thin. Service was on point and I listened to the wise-beyond-her-years cashier's advice about the "chicken apple sausage". Food was fast and my dining mate did enjoy her Farmer's Scrambler. If you "serve breakfast all day" WHY are you always out of potatoes on the weekends? This is an easy nearby breakfast go to on the weekends but there are never potatoes to go with the scramblers. It's never even an apologetic, "sorry we are out of potatoes but if you're willing to wait 10 minutes we can get some out to you".... But sweeping floors and changing trash bags with the very same grabs with touching food. I witnessed the kitchen workers preparing food with the very same grabs with touching broom and trash bags. I pointed out to the manager and all she said was "I already talked to her". She was not willing to re prepare the orders or money back. She served the food to customers. I frequent this location both personally and ordering catering for the Company I work for. For the most part the morning staff are pleasant and a delight to deal with. The catering drivers have always been wonderful, particulately a young woman named April. My only disappointment in this Corner Bakery location however stems from the fact that it seems the cook is only comfortable making scrambled eggs that are burnt. I've never had a good experience at any corner bakery and I have found that they all have one thing in common- incompetent employees, especially at the register. I don't think they have ever gotten my order right on the first or even second try. I ordered a side salad and said the full name of the salad when ordering (roasted sesame kale), even asked if I could order it that way, and it comes out wrong(kale lettuce Caesar) . I corrected the girl and she took it back to be fixed. 5 minutes later she brings me the exact same salad except with only kale. I spot the manager handing out free cookies and customer service surveys so I wave him down and tell him what's going on. He grabs a menu (because he didn't know what's on the menu) then goes to the kitchen and comes back with THE EXACT SAME SALAD I already had in front of me. Then he tells me I'm wrong and that was what I ordered. No, It's not. So I tell him that the salad I ordered comes with carrots and roasted sesame seeds- he had to refer to a menu once again as well as speak with the kitchen to verify (it is on the freaking menu, how is this so difficult). He gives up (i can see all of this because I'm sitting right by the kitchen) and leaves it for a cook to desypher (thank God). Finally a very competent cook comes out with my salad and even explains to me how it was miscommunicated! Finally! Wish I would have gotten the cooks name because he should be managing that place. Needless to say, we did not get a cookie or get to take a survey. I won't even get into my other corner bakery experiences.......... Corner bakery- please hire more competent workers. Probably the worst experience I've ever had at a corner bakery. The restaurant is not busy and the patio has 8 different tables with dirty plates on them. The food took 20 minutes to come out. My wife ordered the Chopped Salad Entree portion and the bowl was half full and we were told that's the serving size. The Mac and cheese was runny. Hands down the worst experience we've ever had at a corner bakery and won't be back to this one. Please work on service recovery, especially when a customer expressed disappointment when receiving their entrees.
