A big part of the experience with renting an apartment is the staff. at Tamai Towers, Dave, Deb, Brian, Dusko, and Son have made that experience a very positive one. Responses were always timely, professional, and Deb specifically was always easy to interact with. Maintenance tickets were always resolved expediently. The online account worked fine, and if anything went down / disturbances arose on the site or the building, the staff always communicated what was happening and what was being done to resolve any hiccups. The Lease Agreement is what you'd expect from a corporate property management company, but even then it wasn't as stringent as some of the other ones I've seen. AKA they want their tenants to enjoy their experience living at their complexes, and do not want to stress them out with high security deposits / 60+ day notice to vacate requirements / high cost utilities / hidden fees. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a best value apartment in the heart of LoDo. Overall, if Cornerstone Apartments runs their other complexes like the team at Tamai Towers, I'd say look at all the options they have in the neighborhood you're interested in. Solid, safe, cheap apartments near the downtown core. Perfect for people who don't care what brand the refrigerator is. Quick bus ride to 17th and Stout. Best part is the maintenance team are good people. My maintenance guy Wyatt is on the ball with every request, and knows what he is doing. So is Tony, he swapped the fridge for me my first week here. The negative reviews on here are from negative people. No place is perfect, and for the price you should know this ain't the Ritz. Know that cornerstone will treat you fairly. No hidden fees like at other cheap places. Online rent payment is a breeze, lease is standard, no surprise inspections, great maintenance team. Also, Pat at the front desk is one of the kindest people I know. It's been a real treat to have her great me every day after work :) read more

The power to my laundry room in my building went out in the middle of a snowstorm. I wouldn't have been worried if I hadn't been washing ALL of my bedding. The washers stopped in the middle of the cycle and were submerged in water. I called maintenance and they were very patient and understanding. I had originally made a service request with a gentleman on Saturday for 3 maintenance requests. He told me someone would be in on Monday, but no one ever came. I followed up on Wednesday, as well as Thursday's with Kourtney and Caley. Kourtney especially was great about following up with a technician because we had someone come later that day. Unfortunately my actual property manager Tom was unresponsive (but yet he had time to leave a note taped on my door about a payment...?) when I tried to reach out. He never followed up after I left a message. Luckily, the girls at the main office were nice and helpful. Will, the maintenance gentleman, was great. He came in the cold after a long day, assuming we were last on his list. He stayed a while until the job was done right which I really appreciate. He was really nice and friendly and polite. Overall - I good experience. I negative that they never did my maintenance request when I originally suggested on Saturday - completed 4 days later. If I could leave NO stars, I most certainly would. DO NOT rent from these guys. Absolute worst customer service I have ever received, and I have leased from many different apartments in my lifetime. I had something come up where I needed to sublet my apartment and relocate. When I called Ted, my property manager, he let me know this could not be done even though I had been told upon signing my least that I could. Not to mention, in my lease there was evidence that I could, but had to get my "agent's consent". Well, Ted wouldn't budge on giving this consent, even after I had found someone ready to take over the lease and pay any additional charges/deposits necessary to do so. I asked to escalate my issue and talk to someone above Ted, which took quite a lot of pushing to even get done. Once I finally got Charlie Hogan's info, he would not take my calls and ignored my emails. I went to the office to meet him face-to-face, but he was "in a meeting". I had to get someone legal involved to call and finally get a call back from Charlie and when I did talk to him he yelled at me and was extremely condescending and rude and NOT at all willing to help. Customer service? NON-EXISTENT. I can't even explain the level of rage I have with these people and I will be happy to let any and all know that they should NOT sign with Cornerstone unless they want to have a bad experience overall and ZERO customer service. GREED is all that is happening here, these people do not care about anyone but themselves and their greed. Not to mention the lack of help when you have an issue at your apartment, my list could go on and on here, but the biggest issue I had was theft. Many people in my building had packages stolen and laundry from the shared laundry room. When I contacted Cornerstone about my SEVERAL stolen packages, all I heard was that "someone would be in touch". Guess what? No shocker here, but no one got back to me. This is just one example of many. Bottom line is, Cornerstone is nothing you want any part of. I will also be turning them into the Better Business Bureau and continuing to share my pitiful experience. read more

I just wanted to give a shout out to the amazing team at Cornerstone. Daniel, Colin, Maggie, Mark, and Cody. When every I put a work order in to get something fix, they always a prompt, professional, and most of the time go beyond the scope of just fixing stuff that is broken. For example, the water in my kitchen sink was not getting cold and was leaking underneath sink. It ended up being a huge job. The pipes were all rusted out. Daniel came and saved the day!!! Daniel fixed the problem with new pipes and noticed I needed a new garbage disposal (I didn't even know I had the hook up available to install) Daniel is Amazing!! I dont have to worry about cleaning up after him when he works on something, like I have had to with other property management companies. They knocked instead of just entering my home without notice (I've had problems with this before in other buildings). I've never lost a DOLLAR of a deposit before living here, where they are charging me $1100 for renovations. Did 3 months of loud work on my apartment building to replace windows as I moved out, with no decrease in rent as accomodation. Do not rent from them, it will be more expensive in the end-- just find a better company even if it means more rent. read more

Did you all seriously write on our personal laundry possessions in the laundry room? This is what I mean, you went into our private lockers and actually took the time to tell us after years of using pod type detergents that we can't use them anymore. The signs all over the room and tiny little washer that services 12 units was not enough. Then you tell folks who have no smoking clauses in their leases that they can't even smoke on their top story balconies. As for work orders, sure never had to file one, I understand that's important but has nothing to do with you telling folks how to live and now suddenly what kind of detergent we are allowed to use. You wrote on our stuff, who does that? Like living with our parents. Also you might want to tell your employees about the new 25 ft off the property smoking rules they aren't following your new rules. Lease is up I am out of here and avoiding you folks like the plague. I loved it here as has another resident who has been here over a decade. You folks are way too much. read more

The apartment had problems from the start , we had problems with mice( they did set traps after we complained) but the biggest problem that we had was the fuse going off- many times we woke up to no heat and electricity (sometimes we had half ) since the fuse box was in the basement and locked up we had to go a day before we got it back on. There was a problem when someone pooped in the laundry room and it was days before anyone took care of it. Also had many packages stolen. read more

It was only about 2 weeks after Cornerstone took over that we all got our notices to vacate. For those of us who have been here for years and are month to month, we got 40 days notice. They offered to waive the application fee if we rented from them but the availability was low and the rents were outrageous. When I found out that I might not be able to find a place and move in time I asked if I could have a couple more weeks to a month so that I didn't have to move everything into storage, just to have it moved again to my new place. I thought that because they acted like they wanted to be helpful that this wouldn't be a problem. Plus they have to honor the newer tenants that have leases, so people will be here anyway. Without explanation they said no. This company is taking over the city, kicking long time residents out of their homes and making our neighborhoods unaffordable. Its disgusting how many times a day I see their signs in front of buildings. I've lived in this apartment, that I love, for 4 years and in the neighborhood, where I feel safe and comfortable, for almost 20 years. Its heartbreaking that these chumps can come in and ruin and displace entire communities, for money. I feel like anyone who rents from them should know that this could happen to you, or already did happen to someone else who used to live in the place you do now. UPDATE: The day I wrote this review I was contacted by the manager and offered a one week extension. This happening 2 weeks before I had to be out doesn't help me. I asked for help when I needed help and was coldly denied. The response from Cornerstone was too little, way too late and clearly only as a result of this bad review. My opinion of this company remains the same, despite this last minute and self serving attempt to be "understanding of my situation." read more

I just moved to Denver and was feeling quite frustrated with the hot Denver rental market. Working with Cornerstone, specifically leasing agent Alex Flynn, made the process soooooo much easier. While I ended up renting an apartment from another company, I was still very impressed with the service from Alex. He drove all over town on a Friday to show units that fit exactly what I was looking for within my budget. He was honest, courteous, funny and super easy to work with...which was commendable because I was pretty stressed out by the time I met him. read more

LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE BESIDES A CORNERSTONE APT As a current resident in a cornerstone apartment, I couldn't be more frustrated with the way they "manage" their buildings. Their property managers and maintenance team responsiveness is laughable. BE WARNED: Heat is not "included" they have 1 thermostat per BUILDING and they let the residents on lower floors like me go cold and uncomfortable for MONTHS, the worst part is THEY DON'T CARE, I call and ask for someone to look at my heat, it's now been a week without a follow up or any response for that matter. They have it "figured out", in the sense that they take advantage of residents to make a profit. They're very responsive up front and nice to work with but, once you sign the lease, they treat you like shit. I'm saving up to buy out of my lease because it's that miserable. read more

I lived in 86 Grant St. when Cornerstone began managing it. While transitions can be hard, Cornerstone handled it pretty well. Yes, our building changed somewhat in the level of professionalism and maturity in residents--we went from being mostly single professionals and couples in the building to younger roommates that liked to host parties--but overall as a responsive management company, it doesn't get much better. They fixed things immediately. They responded to concerns. They put notes up if the noise level seemed to be reported by a lot of residents. They put notes up to communicate water outages and reminders when windows were being replaced and which floors were affected and when. And our building's contact at Cornerstone, Matt, is a very professional, level-headed gentleman, and works with you to make you as happy as he can within the parameters of the lease. He is very nice and delivered the best customer service I have experienced as a renter in Denver. Sure my rent went up annually, but that is the reality of this market in Denver right now. I appreciated that they didn't gauge their renters with astronomical increases and raised them steadily and consistently at lower rates than the rest of the market. I trust that Cornerstone will work to lower rents on their units when the market bottoms out (if it ever does). And the icing on the cake was that when I adhered to the move-out check list, Cornerstone returned every single penny of my deposit. This is an honest and ethical company and I would recommend renting from them to anyone...especially if you can get a unit in 86 Grant with Matt as your manager. read more

My comfort and happiness as tenant apparently doesn't matter. This company is legitimately the worst. Never in my life have I been so disappointed by a management company, for any kind of business. Though our property manager tries, he is incredibly overworked and spread way too thin. He manages close to 20 properties, and it shows. I've lived in the building for a long time, and we are counting the days until we can leave. I have watched the building completely fall apart under Cornerstone's management; it's sad really. They are constantly cutting corners to try and save a buck, and charging absurdly high rent for a low quality experience. To say that I am disappointed puts it lightly. Never were there safety issues in the property before it came under the purvey of Cornerstone. Since then, there have been repeated breakins to the building, including two armed robberies with firearms involved, and a first story apartment window was kicked in from the outside. Previously the property had onsite, live in management that was highly involved in interacting with the tenants. The previous management cleaned daily, interacted with tenants face to face on the daily, and knew everyone who lived there by both face and name. Now we are all literally just figures and numbers on paper. Now they clean weekly, and not very well. Things are regularly over looked while cleaning. Last month a dead bird sat in the basement hallway for five days before being removed, and this week there was dog feces in the lobby for four days before I cleaned it up after tiring of seeing it. Some buildings and neighborhoods need more hands on management, and this is one of them. Cornerstone absolutely does not care if the tenants are happy or safe in the place that they live. They are only concerned with profit and quick turnover of units, even if it means quality is sacrificed. The remodels of units were laughable, with fixtures barely attached, vents painted over, large holes in cabinetry, and showers being painted with acrylic paint to simply cover mold and mildew up, rather than treat and remove it. Other common occurrences have been hallway lights frequently being burnt out, leaks and floods, mold damage, and tenants breaking leases early just to get out from under this management company. I would never recommend this company to anyone, even someone i disliked, because I wouldn't wish for anyone to feel this cheated by a company for the value of their dollar. Rent literally anywhere else. Though the employees I have met and interacted all appear to be nice enough, they're all in way over their heads. The company appears to be staffed by a bunch of really young, really inexperienced people who don't live in cornerstone properties no therefore cannot appreciate the deficits of the company and its efforts. read more

I've lived at 66 Pearl for almost 2 years now. During that time I have been very pleased with my property manager Matt and Cornerstone Apartments. While the problems have been few and far between, one of my best experiences with Matt was when a pipe broke in the apartment above mine. Even though it was passed midnight on a Monday night he kept bringing dry towels and didn't quit until we had the mess taken care of. For me, it was reassuring to see my property manager go above and beyond like that. As a company they are friendly; timely with service/repair requests; take pride in maintaining their properties (or at least the one I live in-ha); do a nice job of fostering social communities by setting up happy hours; and promote local businesses by continuing to build the Cornerstone Card program. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM CORNERSTONE. Living in a Cornerstone property has been an incredibly --and ongoing-- frustrating experience. My partner and I have lived here for a year and a half, are communicative about our concerns when they arise and always pay our rent on time. Despite this, we've had numerous concerns and have gone unaddressed for far too long-- including washing machines constantly breaking and not being fixed in a timely manner, water being shut off without notice, the internet going out at least once a month and it taking several days to get anyone to simply reset the router (which is IN our building, but locked in the utility room so we cannot access it), the dumpster right outside our door being constantly overflowing with trash and not emptied on a regular basis (which people then sift through and leave piles of trash strewn about the alley and in our back walkway) and multiple packages and mail being stolen from numerous residents in this building. Despite several complaints, Cornerstone has refused to have the keypad to the main door to our building repaired, after 1.5 years of being promised that it would be addressed. This means anyone, at any time, can enter our building without a key. And when myself and multiple residents asked Cornerstone about the possibility of a more secure entrance, locks for the mailboxes or lockers for packages, or even security cameras, we were all told that absolutely nothing could be done. I cannot have any packages sent to the apartment now, and worse yet, because of the common foot traffic of total strangers in our building, I do not feel safe living here Additionally, when my partner and I first moved in our kitchen sink backed up and flooded our entire apartment, and although emergency maintenance did arrive, Cornerstone refused to put us up in a hotel even for the evening. Instead we (my partner and I and our dog) were stuck sleeping in a wet, smelly apartment with giant machines running all night long, with maintenance coming in and out as they needed. This is unacceptable. Beyond this, Cornerstone has entered our apartment multiple times without proper notice for "emergency issues" -- like plumbing or checking the carbon monoxide detector--and once, a maintenance man entered my apartment when I was nude and exiting the shower. I had to shout to tell him to leave. Cornerstone apologized but this same thing happened in two further situations due to the very obvious lack of communication between residents, Cornerstone and maintenance staff. So not only do I feel unsafe because of strangers entering our building whenever they like, but also feel that I do not have any privacy or respect from Cornerstone employees -- or from the sub-contractors that they use for maintenance. My partner and I are actively looking for another place to live, and will refuse to pay ANYthing if we break our lease. While some Cornerstone staff has been kind and helpful (and some maintenance teams have also been great), as a company, overall, I find Cornerstone to be absolutely terrible. They are not proactive or helpful, and clearly care more about their bottom line than the living experience of their many tenants. If you can avoid renting from them, please do-- it's simply not worth it. read more

I've rented many an apartment (in many a places) in my day, and I must honestly say that this is the best management company that I have ever come across. My building manager lives in my building and has helped me out numerous times. They are quick to respond to problems and offer solutions when you haven't even really asked for them (e.g., they offered to move my parking spot when I got stuck in some ice in the alley without me really even requesting a better/more compatible spot for my car). They rent out older units, which could be a problem with other companies, but they are totally on top of it (my included heat was actually a bit too much in the winter). Plus, they positively responded when I wanted to extend my lease slightly for my own ease (I am moving out of state but would stay on with them otherwise) without any extra cost or hassle. Total thumbs up. Good folks, they know you and like you, and they randomly hold about monthly lovely little happy hours. If you have the (little) extra money it takes, go with Cornerstone! read more
