Very nice restaurant- simple menu with some unique items. Very tasty. Must try chicken wild rice soup- best ever. Really good bread- you can also buy it by the loaf. Food is made from scratch. Excellent place for breakfast. They also serve alcohol which is a surprise. read more

Since the new owners took over, this place isn't nearly as good. Flies buzzing around. Dirty. Nail sticking out of the wall by about 1/2" and almost ripped my shirt. Portions are noticeably smaller. We visited the cafe for the first time recently. We aren't from the area but have occasion to drive nearby. We'll most likely be making this our usual stop when we have the opportunity. The restaurant was clean, the employees were super friendly, and the food was delicious. I had the garlic butter steak. It was cooked just right and was tender. My husband had the grilled meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes. He loved it. Our server, Haley, was excellent, and the cafe owner was a joy to visit with. This was my first visit here. I had a lunch pasta dish and it was delicious! Then, I had a piece of peanut butter pie. It was good, but not great, especially for $7 per slice. Service was good. My daughter wanted to have lunch here on her graduation day. This is one of her favorite spots so we were good with it. My impression is it's your typical small town café with the exception of poor ventilation because it was very smoky inside. Our lunch took 45 minutes to come out because the waitress said there was a big take-out order in front of ours. The waitress was very pleasant and the food was fine just not used to waiting 45 minutes in a smoky restaurant for lunch. read more

Went based on some of the reviews of fellow yelpers, and was craving for some sweet potato fries. Unfortunately, we went on a Sunday afternoon. It turned out that Sunday is all day breakfast (i.e., could not try what we went there for). Seeing the packed restaurant, however, we decided to stay and tried their breakfast. The restaurant was well staffed but they still seemed to be overwhelmed by the crowd. Floor was full of food droppings and crumbs. And, it took a while for us to get our menu. Once the waitress got to us though, everything went quite smooth. We ordered a "Steak Lover" and a "Short Stack". The Steak Lover came with a steak on a bed of potato wedges, caramelized onions, mushrooms, topped with a couple of eggs. It was also served with two slices of breads. The server did not ask how the steak was to be done and they served it medium. But, was still tender. It was a classic and tasted good. The Short Stack came with two large pancakes covering the whole plate and three sausage links (could select bacons or ham instead of the sausages). The pancakes were nicely done. Fluffy with crisp side. Haven't had such good pancakes for a while (not even in IHOB). Overall, we were very pleased with the breakfasts we got. Well, maybe just a bit too greasy. Hope to try their non-breakfast offerings in the future. read more

I would say this place has the best food in Monticello. The atmosphere was homey and inviting, with a small "everyone knows your name" feel. The food is mostly Americana with a few eclectic dishes thrown in. I had the Gyro (pronounced 'ye-row' not 'Gi-row'), my wife had the open face beef sandwich and my son got the Spaghetti and Meatball. While it was not prepared or served in true Greek style, the Gyro was still very delicious with the best Tzatziki I have had since moving from NY. The open face beef sandwich and mashed potatoes were equally as good with a gravy that I would gladly drink straight out of a glass. I am giving this place 5 stars, even though the Spaghetti, which tasted like they just dumped straight tomato juice on top plan 'fat' spaghetti noodles, was mediocre at best. The Meatball, on the other hand, was pretty good by itself. I normally keep my reviews to just reporting on the food and not the service, but this place has excellent service. The waitress we had reminded me of Paula Dean, of course the pre n-word Paula Dean, and with a Minnesota accent, but Paula Dean non the less. Service + Food + Atmosphere = a place I recommend to the fullest. P.S. Eat half of whatever you get, to make sure you leave plenty room for their tremendously good pies. read more

I love this restaurant. The food is amazing so you get what you pay for. Rather expensive though for a dinner of two. The only complaint I have is how slow the service is for such a small restaurant. Like it would take 5-10 minutes at least just to get a soda refill... Did they go to a different location they it? Also didn't notice if my glass was empty. Excellent little cafe on the corner of one of the main streets in Monticello. The interior is clean and open, self-seating and there seems to be a small town sort of crowd. There's also small town service - it's very friendly, but a wee bit slow. The coffee was good and came out quickly, though, so at least we had something while we waited for the food to arrive. Once the food arrived it was delicious - my spaghetti and meatballs (half order) hit the spot and girlfriend's BLT seemed tasty. We were checked on a couple times during the meal, which was nice. Overall it was a great experience at a small town cafe. I'd definitely consider returning. read more

Alright. I am mind blown about this place. I haven't had good freshly made food like this in a long time. Great service flawless food. Can't beat it. I will now be using it as my place for comparison when I travel. The pie alone was worth the trip. Salty sweet savory I had it all here. Kyle was a real badass. Great service experience. They were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return! We happened to come early at 4p on Saturday and it empty but as we finished up it was really busy already at 5p. My husband and I were first timers yesterday and will not be returning. We watched 5 or 6 tables turnover while we were there and not a single one was ever wiped down and sanitized. This is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable, especially in a food service establishment. read more

We like to try different places to eat. We chose to try this place due to the good ratings. It appears to be a small family restraunt. At least the charm is evident and the good was delicious. We had the spaghetti. Large bowl with a large piece of garlic bread. Not over powering, just perfect. There is a nice variety of food. We will will try it again to try something else. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I rarely give 5 stars because nothing is ever perfect but this was very close for its type of cafe setting.
