Came into town for a getaway. And. First off the town in beautiful and everyone is so freakin kind and personable. Anyways. Came into here for breakfast and I wasn't disappointed. Everything was so good. The new owner Dylan came out and asked how everything was and we got to talking. He has big plans for this cute little establishment that are definitely going to be worthy of trying. I had the all American breakfast with sausage and the sausage was absolutely amazing. My wife and I took our boys to Dunsmuir for the weekend and we found ourselves at this restaurant craving breakfast. The wait staff was so sweet and the food was delicious. I loved the waffle I ordered the best! My wife's breakfast burrito was amazing. The dining room was clean and nicely decorated. It seemed a bit pricey, but it was an overall pleasant breakfast. I will recommend Cornerstone in the future and I'm sure we will return when we come back to this area. read more

We had read the reviews and needed a planned breakfast stop on our drive up 5 to WA. Delicious food, very friendly wait staff, very reasonable prices and very family friendly atmosphere. I ate the lox on a bagel with cream cheese, dill, red onion and capers the salmon was so fresh and tasted perfect. The coffee was hot and just kept coming, my kids had waffles, the breakfast burrito, and a bagel with cream cheese. Great experience would definitely recommend and will plan to come back on our way home. read more

This place use to be good. Service was unfriendly and slow despite not being busy. The food is lacking creativity l, lacks homemade touch, and nothing special like it use to be. My omelet was served by itself, grey-colored eggs, and no sides with it. My husbands bacon and eggs overcooked and dry. Jam was in Smucker's packets (In a small mountain town like this, homemade jam is abundant and would be special to serve even during Covid). Server took forever to wait on us, and we seemed to be an inconvenience to her. Multiple staff members walked by our dirty plates for about 20 minutes, never removing them, attracting more flies while we waited to get our check and cash out. Mopped up table with wet dirty towel and placed new guests there with menus stuck to table. This place can be great again and we really hope new owners try to make some changes as it used to be a wonderful place to come for breakfast. read more

We enjoyed having breakfast this weekend on Saturday so much - we went back the next day. The Denver omelet was perfect with the freshest of veggies. The service was great as well. This place made our overnight stay in Dunsmuir perfect. This was a recommendation for breakfast from the owners of the Dunsmuir Inn and Suites. They were right on! The breakfast menu was well varied and had an option of polenta instead of hash browns on the menu. I had eggs, sausage and their polenta "cake" or patty if you will. It was awesome. I wish I could get that at other dinners. The service was good and everyone was very friendly. I love the small town feel of this place. Will be back if I am ever up there again. read more

We found this restaurant on Yelp, and we were thoroughly delighted. Deb greeted us so warmly the first day, and our waitress Rosie was very friendly and inviting. My husband is a vegetarian, and there were many options available which was quite delightful. He had the Garden Benedict on special with Siracha hollandaise, it was so good he had it the next day as well. I had the smoky Portabella mushroom omelette and it was absolutely amazing. I also usually get the eggs Benedict to see how arestaurant really does. This was by far my favorite Eggs Benedict of any place I've had. We will certainly be back anytime we travel north. The Cornerstone Cafe is amazing! My family enjoys vacationing in Mt.Shasta during the summer and winter months, and we always make sure to stop by for breakfast and lunch. In the past 10 years we've tried everything on the menu, and have never been disappointed. We especially love the Curry Chicken Salad, Bagel with Lox and Pesto, Godfather Sandwich, French Fries, Omelets, Red Potatoes or Hash Browns, and Hot Chocolate with fresh whip cream. I had the California omelet. It was nothing short of amazing the stuff inside was SO fresh! My food was just delicious. Had a sample of my grandpa's buckwheat pancakes, also amazing. Had some of my moms eggs and hashbrowns... take a guess, amazing as well. Next time I'm in town visiting, I'll be trying some more of their options because what I had so far is really good. This is a very veggie friendly restaurant and bakery with friendly service. The only complaint about the time we had there was the particular waitress we had. She gladly convinced them to cook my grandpa's pancakes after the 11 o'clock griddle cut off time, which was awesome, but then her group of friends came in to order coffee from the cafe bar. Uh. We had coffee too. Coffee that we ordered a loooong time before they came in and before she took our food order. Not even froofroo coffee, just plain old stick it in the machine and push the on button coffee. So, had she not been sidetracked enough to forget our drink orders by her friends ordering after and receiving before us this would have been a solid 5 stars. She wasn't rude by any means, ever, I just got really sick of grandpa asking where his coffee was. I realize Dunsmuir is a small community, but there are certain expectations of service even if you do know everyone in town, my family knows this as well as everyone else living there. Regardless, I'm coming back again. If you don't want to have to stop at more fast food places and desire a filling breakfast, consider stopping here. Quaint cafe in the middle of a quaint village. We stopped here on our insane trek between San Diego and Vancouver. We arrived with over a 2 feet of snow and an appetite to match. I was surprised to hear that they had homemade polenta, marinara sauce and baked goods. I must admit that the breakfast items were not as spectacular as I assumed (with the whole homemade aspect to it). It did taste healthy. The polenta was good, not great. I had the Veggie omelet that was jammed with fresh tasty veggies. The Banana Pecan French toast was nice, though it was lacking a bit in the flavor category. The marinara sauce was banging and my harvest muffin made me cry tears of joy. I would stop here again and I am impressed that the food tasted so good in the far reaches of the wild. read more

We've been eating at Cornerstone for over 10 years. The last few times we have been there have been just "okay" but today's food was extremely disappointing. My mom called in an order for a cobb salad and a falafel salad for me and her. When I arrived to pick it up there were 3 salads in the to-go bag, and 3 orders on the receipt. I questioned it for a moment but ended up paying for and taking all 3. When I got home she denied ordering the third salad but said it was fine. We sat down to eat and were very disappointed with the food. My falafel salad that was supposed to contain romaine, spinach and arugula was entirely wilted spinach. My mom's cobb salad, likewise, was entirely wilted spinach. Her bacon was so chewy she was afraid to touch it and the chicken was extremely tough. We ended up throwing all of it away. Super disappointing since it used to be our favorite!! :( Not 5 minutes after posting this review Brandy called my mom and offered us a complete refund. Dunsmuir I've passed you by so many times without even a glance. However not after today when we shrugged and said why not check it out. We had almost given up on finding a place to eat and started to get back on the freeway when I saw the sign that pointed the way to Central downtown where of which we spotted the Cornerstone Bakery & Cafe. What a pleasant surprise to find such a place worthy of any big city right downtown in Dunsmuir. We had great food and wonderful service. Only disappointment was arriving too late for breakfast as the pancakes looked good on people's plates. We made it a point to stop by here on our last day in the Mt. Shasta area because of the great reviews. I'm so thankful that we did! :) Pro's: Our server couldn't have been any better! He was friendly, helpful and attentive, without overdoing it. ;) I had the polenta lasagna with cheese and eggs overeasy, and it was fantastic! My favorite breakfast dish ever! My husband had the Greek omelet. I am not a Greek omelet kind of person, but he is and he said it had lots of olives (which made him very happy) and that the rest of his plate was great We shared a cinnamon bun as well, and it tasted so fresh; it was an ooey gooey cinnamony delight! Con's: My kids shared a waffle and a side of bacon. The only reasons I couldn't give 5 stars for this visit were that the bacon wasn't at all crispy (was even undone on the some of the ends - bleh) and the waffle was not good - it was soft and mushy even without the syrup. The kids ended up ordering a side of toast and a fruit bowl to eat instead. Otherwise, I have to say this was the best breakfast I've had in a very long time! I will definitely put this on my "must" list for any friends/family visiting the area! I will just let them know to also stay away from the bacon and the waffle though. ;) read more

The Cornerstone is an institution, but not in that "been here forever and way past its prime and still banking on its reputation" kind of way... like, in a good way. The food is great and the art hanging on the walls is super-fantastic fish art by artist and super-guide Fred Gordon. The Breakfast is always super good... the bacon is thick and that's important to me. The burger is one of my favorites anywhere... fococia bread, bacon, super, duper yummy. I wish they were open later... if you get off the river in the long nights of summer, you can't head hear... but you are likely to meet your guide here in the morning, or head here for a meal with your S.O.. This is a place that makes Dunsmuir stand out, food-wise. The staff is always helpful and polite. read more

I'm not sure how I feel about this place. We arrived here at about 11:15 on a Friday morning. I was craving a salad. We got the breakfast menu and the only thing that really appealed to us was the French Toast as we weren't in the mood for other breakfast food but the griddle closed at 11 so the server told us we couldn't have that. We settled for other dishes and then about 5 minutes later heard the server tell the table behind us they were serving lunch and gave them a lunch menu. It was a little irritating to say the least as I wanted lunch! Otherwise, my omelette was good and my husband liked his wrap. The service was incredibly quick. I think we were in and out in 30 minutes. The only thing was they brought us the bill while my husband was still finishing his food and it felt like they were trying to get rid of us. So when i paid a visit, its much nicer on the inside than out. I got the salmon melt... it was a filet of salmon, with avocado, and a aoili caper sauce, with pickles, onions and tomatoes. I really liked it, the bread was fresh and the salmon was fresh off the grill. my only complaint was that the clam chowder was soooo cold, well not freezing, but definitely luke warm. besides that, everythign else was great. read more

Stopped in on our way to the Ski Park for breakfast with my son. It was nice not to fight the Summer crowds; we were one of three tables at 8:15 am. We were seated promptly and served coffee the same way. While we weren't in a hurry, we also wanted to eat and be on our way. Our server was far more interested in socializing with her coworkers than giving us much attention. When at the table she was great. But then she'd head back to the kitchen. The kitchen door was open - I could see her talking and carrying on. My Cajun scramble was very good. My son loved his breakfast wrap. Unfortunately all we spoke of on our drive up the hill was the inattentiveness of our server. Sad, as she is good at what she does when paying attention. So sad about my experience at The Cornerstone this last week. The food we received at our party of 4 was the California omelette, French toast, lamb kebab, and the bacon omelette. All of the eggs where over done and ingredients were not cooked. The lamb; we could not cut through. The hash browns were soggy. It's sad this place used to be really good. Along with the bad food, we had bad service. We live locally so I personally have eaten here quite a bit over the years. The guy who served us was nice. But had no experience serving. No water, dirty cups, confused on simple things, and just all over the place. Sad; food was amazing last time I came in August and my service was great from the girl that's been there over the years I have been coming into The Cornerstone . Miss the tasteful food and miss the good service, I always have gotten in the past. I might be back to give it a shot. Hoping this is the only time this happens. The wait staff is quite friendly and the buckwheat pancakes will keep you going for a few thousand feet up Mount Shasta. It doesn't have the old school character since its overrun by uppity retirees. After a couple of days in Mt. Shasta and some very negative food experiences I was so happy to find this place. Very good food, excellent service, comfortable and clean with outside seating and a very casual but nice interior. We had a great lunch and were surprised at the massive Midwestern truck-stop sized portions of their high quality California grub. Highly recommended if you are in the area. Even if you are just driving up (or down)the 5 and get hungry anywhere between Chico and Oregon, just hang on until you get here. You will be glad that you did. read more

Have not been here since I worked for Deb before she passed 6 years ago. On 1/17/22 is my first time back after my grandpa told me how horrible the food and service was I had to take my friend and my kids and go in to eat! upon entering you have to go to a counter to order, the blonde girl with almost white hair is super friendly. The rest of the staff not so much. Menu is super easy to read but doesn't tell what what's on anything. We got biscuit and gravy, 2 pancakes, French toast, breakfast burrito, 1 amerciano and 1 large OJ the biscuit and gravy came to the table cold after a 25 min wait for food, there were onions on top (not mentioned on the menu) my friends allergic. The pancakes tasted ransit like the batter had been sitting for a while super flat gross not cooked in the middle, my daughters French toast was hard not soft like (hard bread) the strawberry's were brown/gray color. My burrito salasa was frozen in the dish asked the waitress to heat it, Ans she just brought another cold frozen dish to the table :( the onion were taken care of but you can tell the biscuits came from a can and thrown in the over nothing great about them. Waitress never came back, no box no nothing to take the food home if we even wanted it. the Cook William Maley and Katie biggerstaff were in the kitchen eating you could see them thru the wholes in the door screen walking back and forth with food going to there mouth. and to told it off when we walked out both him and her walked out the back door to his red car Ans started to roll a joint and smoke it while walking back into the kitchen. super over priced I see why my grandpa will not be back and neither will I. i will not tell anyone to go there. This is our favorite breakfast place in Siskiyou County so we are lucky to now live just down the road and eat here whenever we have a breakfast date! We really are coffee snobs, and this espresso is just GREAT to us. My absolute favorite is the eggs benedict and I've never had less than a perfect poached egg. Nothing worse than when it's hard or underdone....It is really a well done vibe, simple but you feel welcome to stay a while.
