This is our favorite breakfast place in Siskiyou County so we are lucky to now live just down the road and eat here whenever we have a breakfast date! We really are coffee snobs, and this espresso is just GREAT to us. My absolute favorite is the eggs benedict and I've never had less than a perfect poached egg. Nothing worse than when it's hard or underdone....It is really a well done vibe, simple but you feel welcome to stay a while. An unexpected gem off I5. We dropped off the freeway on a lark and visited Dunsmuir. Time for lunch: a nice looking place on main street. Well, just about the only place. Pleasantly decorated country theme. I had the turkey burger on focaccia and my wife had a BLT. Both excellent! Our chicken curry salad, pasta alfredo, hash browns, and focaccia toast were quite good. The ham in the triple cream omelet was a little overpowering, but the spinach and mushrooms were yummy. Yuuuuuuum! This is the best place to get breakfast pastries in Dunsmuir. They were super busy, but we were just getting some pastries to go. We were told the wait is always 30 min or more on the weekend to have sit down breakfast. I was sad we were low on time, cause the place smelled amazing. We got a carrot muffin, blueberry scone, peach turnover, and breakfast scone. Out of the pastries we got, my favorite was the breakfast scone! We always make it a point to stay in Dunsmuir because they do have several excellent restaurants despite the size of this tiny hamlet! One reason we spend the night here is so that we can breakfast at Cornerstone...this time we met the new owner. She was very welcoming and personable. We shared some memorable hot cocoa photos from past stops in the cozy restaurant...in return, she loaded us up with some sweets for our journey! The coconut, blueberry scone was beyond words!!! So moist, sweet and wonderful! The homemade breads: whole wheat, sourdough, what pecan...fabulous! The green eggs were delicious, next Tim I will leave off the pesto sauce (which I think was made from spinach). The buttermilk pancakes were huge and fluffy, the scrambles delicious...make it YOUR next stop in Dunsmuir! read more

Great variety of a home cooked breakfast. Greybeard and I split a "trucks top omelet." Plenty of food. The offerings of buckwheat cakes, oatmeal, smoked salmon bene, so much to choose from. We stopped at Cornerstone Cafe in Dunsmuir and had lunch on our way back to the Bay Area. We all ordered the Gyros meal and were so impressed by the Turkish flavors and the freshness! Amber was so welcoming and Dillon, Executive Chef/Owner, took the time to introduce himself and to say he had recently acquired the business. I have always enjoyed coming to this mom and pop joint/café and have always had such a genuine and authentic experience. Big shout out to Brandi, who seems to remember me every visit and by name. She gave me one of the best experiences I have had after the pandemic hit last summer. She made me feel safe and accommodated my worries with ease and a smile. My food was on time, deliciously fresh, and hit my pallet wonderfully. To end my visit with a sweet treat; Brandi made me the best Carmel Macchiato. My visit was a huge success. my RV was hit by a truck tire and the closest exits was Dunsmuir where came upon the Cornerstone. The Executive Chef set me up with lap top seating and electricity so i could Zoom my classes in time at 8am! he the brought me out a Sacramento Breakfast burrito that was the best i have ever had!! i will always remember Dunsmuir Cornerstone and without the tire crash i would never of stopped. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and my family lives in Castella! So every time I go visit the area I have to stop by the Cornerstone Cafe! The food is always on point, the service is great. Drove the extra miles to have breakfast on a Sunday morning. What do you know, they were closed. Even though they advertise being open on Sunday morning. In fact I don't believe I have ever seen this place open. Strange that a restaurant that specializes in in breakfast and brunch is closed on a Sunday morning. I'm surprised that this place is in business given that they seem to be closed all the time. A very unorthodox business model, you are leaving a lot of money on the table. Please update your operating schedule. People would love to spend money at your establishment, you just need to be open. Very disappointing. Especially here in Siskiyou county where there only a handful of places to go. I love supporting local small business, but you need to be open in order for us to support it. Good luck. I want to start that I had a sandwich from here and thought it was mediocre at best and I had a eggs bennadict and the yolks where hard. I was willing to write off this restaurant as not so worth it. Today I was in the area thinking I want to like this place it's local and has friendly staff. I had tried the scramble with I want to say it was chicken apple sausage and hatch chilies. Let me say it was extremely good. Cornerstone Cafe had rediemed themselves fully in my eyes. I can highly recommend them for this dish, the pastries and cakes, and the ginger lemonaid. Ate breakfast here, never again. I love granola, they make theirs and it tastes like rubber fruit and stale everything else. I had ordered the fruit and yogurt with granola. Received a large portion of plain unsweetened yogurt which was ok. Had a muffin, dry and no flavor what so ever. Hubby ordered eggs over easy, they were way over cooked. There are few small towns as accessible, historic and beautiful as Dunsmuir. Fewer still of significance to the building of California, if you know your history. Add to that a spot right off Highway 5 past Lake Shasta and before Mount Shasta and Oh! My! My! Delicious and inventive menu with great prices, and terrific service. My breakfast Go-To and my seasonal all-summer in-laws as well. The wall art is something and to behold and don't miss the prehistoric seashells in river rocks in the wall by the front door. A few issues, ordered the veggie hash which was missing a lot of the ingredients listed on the menu, the food took an incredibly long time to come out when the majority of the restaurant was empty, food was lukewarm upon arrival and there was a very large cockroach in the restroom. I wandered into this place last Saturday afternoon, when I was craving a scone. The scone is all I bought, and it was the best, most delicious, most perfect scone I have ever eaten. It is a very good thing for my diet that this place is a 5 hour drive from my house, because the scones are irresistible. They are also over 20 WW points apiece, I am sure. read more

Went on Saturday, November 4 for the bakery goods and my friend and I was so pleasantly surprised of the taste of the cinnamon roll... so yummy. We took a few assorted flavors of scones to go and also have no complaints. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming which was the case for all the shops in this little town. Driving south on I-5 and pulled off in this adorable little town. Surprised at a nice selection of bakery goods. We got muffins and a breakfast scone. The muffin was loaded and the scone was like a full breakfast with bacon, cheese and spinach. Very good caramel latte, they grind Peet's beans. read more

Went to our usual breakfast spot today but they were so busy they had no tables. Decided to try The Cornerstone which WAS our go-to breakfast spot in the past but we had not gone in for quite some time, since they changed ownership. Wow! We were very surprised by the fantastic service, thanks to Barry and owner Deb. Service is not something you are likely to find very often in the area so that was amazing! VERY friendly and efficient. The menu retains most of the best options from the old and extensive menu, and hooray! The harvest muffins are still there! We shared an Applewood Bacon omelet and a Belgium Waffle with fresh berries. The food was excellent, and the coffee kept flowing. Food was served in record time, hot and delicious. We took a menu to add to our B&B binder for our guests. A great spot in Dunsmuir! Give them a try! read more

We just happened to came across when we were in Dunsmuir the food and service was exceptional.

Many of us have fave dishes that we order to gauge how good a restaurant is. For me, that's a Cobb salad. The Cornerstone's version is REALLY great. Plenty of smoky fresh bacon and avocado, for a reasonable price ($13, I think). Great atmosphere, excellent service, too. Highly recommend! read more
