Wonderful staff and service, it was Mother's day so menu selection was limited? Highly recommended the apple turnovers, especially warmed. I had ordered chicken fried steak for breakfast and it was my first ever trying so... it may not be my fave dish as I didn't realize it came covered in white gravy,however many people do enjoy this. If you like biscuits and gravy with more protein then you might enjoy it! The coffee was good, not and other menu options looked great also. It is a very welcoming atmosphere. read more

Weird little place we came here because we were staying upstairs, we were all excited to start our day and asked the server what she thought about the country fried steak and eggs, she replied I don't care for the food, but others say it's good??? So odd, it seemed to be frozen out of the package fair, I had a pancake that was light and fluffy, the best part was the honey whipped butter on the toast and pancakes. With our discount for staying it was good. I wouldn't go again tho, very limited menu no Bene that we saw in photos. All the staff seem pretty cliquey and not accommodating to guests. read more

McCloud, California? Where's that??? Just over the hill from Mt Shasta Ca is one of the most quaint and bucolic little villages in the whole state. Take a walk around the tiny town and you will agree, but make sure you stop in for some of the best cooking on the planet at the White Mountain Cafe. Tracy, the new owner and chef, is a perfectionist to a fault and it shows in the restaurants homey ambience and the fantastically prepared food she delivers! After enjoying the McCloud waterfalls, we decided to check out the town of McCloud before heading on to Mount Shasta city. Our stomachs informed us they had other plans - i.e. lunch - and soon! And that's how we ended up at the White Mountain Café. Some places you come in and just feel comfortable right away, that was the case here. We could tell right away that this place was well run and cared for: perfectly clean with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. A bit of a unique look to it too; we found out later it had been converted from its original pharmacy origins. Customers were a nice mix of locals and tourists. We had some true comfort food for lunch: a tuna melt for my wife and the 'Ol Trusty BLT for me, with a side of fries. Both our sandwiches were delicious, mine with lots of bacon, and the fries were super. Our server was friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Small towns may be one of the few places with their own unique character, too small to interest the chains that can cast a blanket of sameness over an area. we often eat here, but this is our first visit after the new change in the owner. We arrived 90 minutes after they had opened. No customers. We thought they were closed. There were two elderly people who said they were the new owners AND, they only accept cash. Who. even carries cash today. NO ONE. Thus, an empty cafe. We left and will not return. Wow the cafe has expanded their menu to include omelets and offers a 2 egg omelet as well as the traditional 3 egg. My husband had the stuffed hash browns with a biscuit that was wonderful. Their hollandaise was thick, creamy with a wonderful hint of lemon. They've got anything you could want from burritos, to chicken fried steak. They will even make you a breakfast sandwich if you ask! The service here is wonderful, couldn't have a nicer group of folks working for them. The inside is a charming old soda fountain turned into a little country diner. The only thing was my husband and I were a little bummed that we got there maybe 10 minutes after 11am and were unable to get breakfast and their lunch menu pretty much consists only of grilled cheese and burgers. After a long hike, this is the perfect place to grab some burgers, sandwiches, and fries to fuel up. I cannot recommend the Carnitas Cubano more, the pork carnitas was so incredibly tender. Plus, their mimosas were only $6-7! Service was a little slow, but there was a festival in town so the long wait times made sense. I will 100% come back here again next time I'm in town. read more

Food was decent! They do not have many options, but it is a small shop in a small town. I wanted to try the breakfast, but if you come after 11 you cannot order breakfast. I ended up getting tomato soup and my blt sandwich and both was really good. Bacon is high quality and soup was good. Not sure if it is the owner that is always working the the server/ host/ busser does everything in the front, so seems to be short with customers and only helps if you ask. Overall, was not the best place around, but works if you want breakfast in the morning or lunch. Seating is limited as well. read more

Great place for breakfast before skiing at Mount Shasta Ski Park or exploring the falls. McCloud is definitely a hidden gem. They serve breakfast and lunch everyday except on Wednesday's when they are closed. Just good comfort food at a great price and service with a smile. Fantastic diner/cafe! I had the pancake breakfast- two pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 homemade sausages for $9.99. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious! They are served with two syrups, maple and raspberry. A big slab of butter was melting all of the pancakes when my plate was served, what could be better? My Mom had biscuits and gravy. The gravy and biscuits were delicious. It was a huge portion too! My Dad had the breakfast burrito and enjoyed it. The burrito was huge and served with a side of their homemade salsa/sauce. This place was a favorite among the group of 6 that I was with. We were in McCloud for a wedding and stopped here to eat lunch. We were all beyond satisfied with our meals! McCloud is one of the best-kept secrets in California. This quaint and picturesque town located within view of Mount Shasta is like something you find in a book, TV show or movie. The best thing is that it isn't pretentiously so. This is historic small-town California at its best. Each time we visit the area, we stop by White Mountain Cafe. Located on the northernmost end of the family-owned White Mountain Mercantile (a single building with multiple shops and a hotel), you will be surprised at what you find. The restaurant in simple, eloquent cozy and, well, like something you'd find in a novel. The food here is good -- surprisingly good. We love the breakfast menu. The coffee is always great (and I always forget to ask what company they use). If you're in the area and looking for a spot off the beaten path, this place is a must-stop. Lunch was way affordable. Hand-cut chicken tenders... same with the fries. Delicious club sandwich and BLT. Offer of watermelon on an extremely hot day. Even the salad dressing seemed homemade. Friendly owner, which isn't always the case for us tourists in small towns. We walked in close to closing without knowing it. They stayed open beyond closing to feed us. I'm looking at the reviews below and am concluding that they must have been written during the previous ownership. The food WAS very good! We live in Mt Shasta and have, in the past enjoyed a drive to beautiful McCloud for breakfast at he White Mountain Cafe. We made that drive for breakfast this morning, WRONG! WORST "chicken-fried" steak, eggs and potatoes I've ever had by far. And I'm 82 and have eaten at a lot of places; got the belly to prove it! My friend had the standard bacon and eggs, badly over cooked bacon, terrible potatoes and runny gravy. Get it together guys. Have the previous owners back and learn how to cook. Now I have to call the people I've sent there recently and apologize. Damn, it could be such a good place. read more

Places need to update or produce accurate menus online. They are no longer serving some of the items shown in these photos here. Messed up our ordern way overpriced for the food. Pancakes taste squishy and like they came from a cardboard pre mix of the some dort. Scrambled eggs are wet. Reallt sucks because it is in the hotel, no where else to eat. Low quality food for a $50 tab. Oh and bacon uncooked on ends. I feel bad for feeding this to my child and the middle of the pancakes are uncooked. Just terrible food. read more

This place is amazing. We live about an hour away but make a point to come here for breakfast when we can. The house spuds are my favorite and are a must order. The eggs Benedict is the best I have had, but you also can't go wrong with the pork belly hash. I've never had a bad meal here! They do get busy though, so be patient and if you walk in at peak times with a large group, you'll probably have to wait. But they are a friendly group with a very talented kitchen so it is worth it! read more
