McCloud, California? Where's that??? Just over the hill from Mt Shasta Ca is one of the most quaint and bucolic little villages in the whole state. Take a walk around the tiny town and you will agree, but make sure you stop in for some of the best cooking on the planet at the White Mountain Cafe. Tracy, the new owner and chef, is a perfectionist to a fault and it shows in the restaurants homey ambience and the fantastically prepared food she delivers! You leave full and satisfied saying to yourself "that's exactly the way I like it cooked"! The grilled turkey, bacon and cheese was sublime, the crispy fries, the homemade apple pie...yummmmmm! She does happen to be a genius with her pastries, as well. The entire staff is friendly, helpful, and professional and Tracy will always offer up a wry smile and a complimentary hug. If you're passing by, don't miss out on this 5+ Star experience! Jim gives it an enthusiastic thumbs up Cheers

We did a small trip to McCloud. This was our breakfast spot every morning. The service was friend and great! The food was delicious and huge portions. Love the atmosphere as well. A must stop in your day!

After enjoying the McCloud waterfalls, we decided to check out the town of McCloud before heading on to Mount Shasta city. Our stomachs informed us they had other plans - i.e. lunch - and soon! And that's how we ended up at the White Mountain Café. Some places you come in and just feel comfortable right away, that was the case here. We could tell right away that this place was well run and cared for: perfectly clean with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. A bit of a unique look to it too; we found out later it had been converted from its original pharmacy origins. Customers were a nice mix of locals and tourists. We had some true comfort food for lunch: a tuna melt for my wife and the 'Ol Trusty BLT for me, with a side of fries. Both our sandwiches were delicious, mine with lots of bacon, and the fries were super. Our server was friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Small towns may be one of the few places with their own unique character, too small to interest the chains that can cast a blanket of sameness over an area. Fortunately, if you're willing to go to little out of your way, towns like McCloud exist, and in them places like the White Mountain Cafe.

Wow the cafe has expanded their menu to include omelets and offers a 2 egg omelet as well as the traditional 3 egg. My husband had the stuffed hash browns with a biscuit that was wonderful. Their hollandaise was thick, creamy with a wonderful hint of lemon. They've got anything you could want from burritos, to chicken fried steak. They will even make you a breakfast sandwich if you ask! This is a veteran owned business so I love supporting them! Come up to McCloud and enjoy our town and this wonderful cafe.

While we were in the area, we decided to check out this charming little cafe. It has a cozy atmosphere and the staff are genuinely friendly. We went with the sausage skillet and the chicken fried steak with gravy and biscuits. Both dishes were flavorful and satisfying. A great spot for a comforting meal!

After a long hike, this is the perfect place to grab some burgers, sandwiches, and fries to fuel up. I cannot recommend the Carnitas Cubano more, the pork carnitas was so incredibly tender. Plus, their mimosas were only $6-7! Service was a little slow, but there was a festival in town so the long wait times made sense. I will 100% come back here again next time I'm in town.

We arrived just as they opened. One person served everyone in the cafe, and she did so excellently! 5/5 - Biscuits and Gravy: Perfect 5/5 - Pork Belly Hash and Eggs: OMG... best potatos. So crispy and amazing seasoning. I will come back to McCloud for this breakfast! 5/5 - Maple Cakes: Candied pecans, 100% pure Vermont maple butter and maple cream with house made sausage. Awesome. 4/5 - Old Fashioned Breakfast: House made sausage and perfectly crisped hash browns 4/5 - Waffle + Bacon: really good

We have eaten there many times when staying in McCloud. Great food, great service and friendly staff. Going back next week to enjoy.

Food and service was great. Only complaint was owner/manager repeatedly berating cook and waitress. It was really uncalled for.

Warm friendly atmosphere where you feel you've stepped back in another time dimension where you're greeted at the door and the small town where you feel welcome. This is in the historic building where this was the original butcher shop for the logging company, Mother McCloud, surrounded by history of when the town was completely self sufficient. Priceless. Our dinners were amazing. The steaks grilled to perfection. My grandson had surf & turf, my granddaughter was a super thumbs up thrilled with her NY steak. My Cobb salad more plentiful than I could image. Everyone was laughing and enjoying theirselves along with the friendliest staff interactions. I cannot wait to go again. Butcher Block is a must for food, service, and ambience. I would recommend calling for reservations around 4:00 pm as this hot spot filled up quickly.

We chose to sit outside which was wonderful on a pleasant evening. We ordered a particular Pinot Noir. The server came back with tastes of two alternates as they were out of what we ordered. We saw this as awesome customer service! We ordered the burrata with tapenade appetizer and it was the highlight of the evening. The Moroccan chicken dish sounded fantastic, but was just OK. The flavorings were interesting, but after several bites felt too intense. And why was there so much arugula on top? The Trout arrived with a burnt crust and was dry. The server responded the right way and offered a second chance. That arrived looking much better, but was absolutely raw in the middle. The setting, the server's warm customer service, the appetizer, and the wonderful Pinot Noir are reasons for the three stars. They just need to find a chef that can execute the promise of the menu.

I am a tad arrogant, having access to the some of the best cuisine by living close to San Francisco. Now to be fair, their price point reflects what you see sitting on the plate before you. The service is polite. Ambiance is fun. I ran around in these train cars as a child while vacationing with family 30 years ago. My advice would be, go with what works. The previous owner had it going on, knew the territory so to speak. This place has "warning Will Robbinson" all over it, like sushi in Kansas. A tuckered out Fly Fisherman would prefer a great steak and baked potato. No shame in that, it is the pillar of American dining. If I want foo-foo, I will go to SFO. But then again, I think the food in Paris is "OK", (specifically their entrees) Paris has great bread, crackers and cheese. Alright, pastry, baguets, and fromage. All the offerings in Italy are amazing and the only thing to eat in the UK are chippies. The best "foo foo food" was Betlenut Pan-Asian on Union Street in San Francisco. Lost their lease however. THAT was the bom-d-idly. Hey if you want a fabulous steak, try Jacks in DT Redding. Great place, but you will wait an hour, maybe two. But it is worth the wait. Has an interesting provenance, the location and building itself, was a house of ill repute back in the FDR days, so the legend goes. Cafe Maddalena in Dunsmuir is excellent as well. This faux fusion/euro/cubano/too cool to be true... might make 2 years max. It is the epitome of "The fastest way to make a small fortune, out of a large fortune is to start a restaurant." Inherited money, I can smell it burning in the kitchen.
