Their team did the design, permitting, and landscaping/irrigation work. The pools team did a great job, and I'm very happy with the end product. HOWEVER.... this review is to comment on my overall dissatisfaction with the company's willingness to honor the landscaping/plant warranties - which they didn't do. Instead, they invoked the "act of god" clause, and left me hanging. The dollar figure is a few hundred bucks, and a little bit of my own labor to replace the dead plants... Given the project was north of 200k, it's a minimal impact, but I'm going to be honest, and state that it left me with a terrible taste in my mouth, and wanted to share it with the broader community. Caveat emptor.

After receiving the initial design, we requested revisions, but communication was slow and updates often took weeks. When we followed up for updates, we were repeatedly reminded that they were managing larger projects, which left us feeling like our project was not a priority. When we finally received the project proposal, the pricing was not itemized, which made it difficult to identify areas where we could scale back to fit our budget. When we asked for a more detailed breakdown, we were told their process is "turnkey," and no alternatives or solutions were offered to help adjust the project scope. Understanding that this was simply how they operated, we requested another revision in hopes of reducing costs. Our last conversation was in November, when we were told we would receive an updated revision within two weeks. Unfortunately, we never heard from Scapes again. We ultimately chose to work with a different local landscape architect who was more communicative, provided transparent pricing and a much better overall experience.

They then asked for another $2,500 to continue, despite having completed practically nothing. They said our deposit was used to buy materials, but no materials were ever delivered. When we hesitated to pay more because of the lack of progress, they abandoned the project and did not refund our $2,000. We ultimately paid $2,000 for one moved outlet. Be very cautious about paying a deposit without clear milestones, receipts, and materials delivered.

DeFeo's Landscaping has been well-known in my area for years, and I finally contacted Eric when I wanted to refresh/redesign an important backyard landscape bed (aka "my happy place"). Eric asked a lot of good questions regarding my likes/dislikes of certain plants, my color preferences, maintenance needs/lifestyle and then sat down at the patio table to put his ideas on paper. I walked away to let him create in peace, then we reviewed his plan and discussed his recommendations. His pricing was fair, I knew his reputation in the area, and I liked his approach so he won my business. He's very knowledgeable and creative. Afterward, I contacted Eric with some questions and suggestions for other plants - he was always very responsive and thorough in his communication. He also made some suggestions regarding the irrigation system. Eric is committed to professional customer service and kept telling me he wanted to design something I could love (within my budget, of course.) He's pretty straightforward and honest, dedicated to quality and customer satisfaction. He's a nice guy, too! Thanks to Eric my happy place has been restored, and the area looks beautiful. I won't hesitate to recommend DeFeo's Landscaping, and am pleased with my first -- but not last -- experience working with Eric.
