I am forever grateful for the foundation of recovery I received at Cornerstone. Relapse is not part of my story and I attribute part of that outcome to my case manager Irma Villapando. She recognized that my family and I saw relapse as inevitable until she took the time to teach us otherwise. I went to Cornerstone last night to check myself in. The first thing they said was... let me see your insurance card. Very caring. After they told me there would a strip search and I said "no" they were so rude. I wish I could remember the young ladies name that said, "what, have you never been naked in front of men before?" Then when I decided to walk out the same "girl" said, "you know your wife isn't going to come pick you up". So thoughtful. I could tell they really had my best interest on their mind. Any way, if you have a problem. Go somewhere but I would not suggest Cornerstone. read more

The staff were good, they deal with a lot of very difficult people in their early stages of detoxification. The less than stellar reviews are a shame and obviously posted by people that failed to give their recovery a chance or expected the tx program to fix their deeply hurting loved one. This place has really gone down hill. They are very understaffed and overworked which becomes apparent when dealing with them. They are horribly rude, condescending, and completely unprofessional. They gossip about the clients right in front of the other clients. There is no follow up or follow through. The case managers are a bit better, but they never have time for you. They will keep you there longer than needed so they can collect the insurance. It's a good program, but the staff is the problem. read more

I have given 16 years of my life away to my addiction and Cornerstone has helped me so much to regain control again. I cannot express how much that means to me and my family. My case manager Darlene is the sweetest and most supportive person and I cannot stress how fortunate I have been to have her aid in my recovery. Cornerstone of Southern California is a grear program. I am 81 days sober and clean, and counting!

I would like to write a heartfelt review for the entire team at Cornerstone. We are truly grateful for all that Cornerstone did for our daughter and for our family. We were dealing with addiction, as well as other complications. Our family was devastated a few months ago, and now we have clarity and a solid foundation. The entire team was so helpful and compassionate. Their support ecosystem is amazing. They have groups, therapists, medical professionals and case managers. There is also an amazing family support group that you can attend for as long as you want. I especially want to give special recognition to our case manager, David Michael. He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, understanding and intelligent. He was always available, and without his guidance and support, we would not have made such tremendous progress. I will always be forever appreciative that he walked us through the most dark and difficult time of our lives. read more

I webt to Cornerstone November 2011- May 2012, had to go to jail for 60 days and then came back July 1-14 2012. I never experienced the detox, as i had stopped drinking a few weeks prior of going to Cornerstone. I went as direction from my lawyer as i was fighting my 3rd DUI case in less than a year. I knew i needed to get sober, so i stopped drinking and then checked myself into Cornerstone. The houses were comfortable and the house manager that I had made sure I had everything I needed (if I needed a brush or teeth paste she offered to help me get it). I was fortunate enough to have had everything I needed. But she was nice. Tried to make it home like especially because I was in there for the holidays. I wasnt at the house much.... I worked part time and I was in a serious relationship with my boyfriend. They seriously tried to do everything they could to discourage our relationship.... but we got sober together, and were married now with Kids. I understand where they were coming from though..... a relationship in your first year or so is not a good idea. I guess we were a rare case. The groups and meetings and such were very structured and one on ones with case managers were a bit weird sometimes but I understood why. I went to 5 AA meetings a week in addition to my groups 5 days a week at Cornerstone. I enjoyed then and got help, made some friends too. I had Don Hadley as my case manager after Carla. Don was awesome. Really realistic and down to earth. No bullsh**. I like that. Dr Herring was my favorite. She honestly cares so much. She and Simon stone worked with my lawyer to actually have them write court letters on my behalf on how I was doing in the program and to please accept my time as time served. I was looking at around 1 year sentence. Dr Herring actually flew up to San Jose where my court was (my final court date) and went and spoke to the judge and represented me wonderfully. She and Simon really had my back. My sentence was so small compared to what it could and should have been. I thank them every day for fighting for me. I did work the program and I did stay sober. I was a bit in denial when I got there. But they helped me see I had a real big problem with alcohol and i need to stay sober forever. I was happy leaving Cornerstone, of course. But I thank them every day for the beginning chapter of my sobriety. I am still sober. I am married to the same guy I was dating back then, and we have 3 Kids. Life is beautiful. I belong to a recovery church where I sing worship and get to help people every day. I'd love to work in a detox one day. Thanks Cornerstone!!!!! read more

REGARDING DETOX: One star BUSINESS. If coming for DETOX, you will be coerced and conned in every way, be it insurance, any and all family, significant others, to continue into their other programs. If not being able to make a phone call to anyone without supervision or someone listening, so that they can butt-in and push their agenda means something to you, do not go. MONEY is their agenda here. IT IS A BUSINESS. There is a few staff that actually cares and respect you. One of their doctors is basically inept, BASICALLY, not fully, but many patients have more knowledge and correct them. They even did my intake and exit exam on the day I LEFT. No registered nurse on staff ever, and you get pushed around like a child. If you're willing but not willing to be a doormat, goto a REAL MEDICAL DETOX, and do 12 Step if that's for you. Don't let subpar medical treatment for a medical detox be a thing. Remember the power of positive thinking- if you think you're an addict for the rest of your life, WELL YEAH you are! If you're trying to get away from that and are TRULY HONEST WITH YOURSELF, STAY POSITIVE, AND TAKE DIRECTION KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ASSERTIVENESS AND WILLINGNESS- You can check out the options for yourself. You don't like a negative review? Then what good is Yelp? Welcome to the real world. Thanks for the week of detox off 6 years of methadone and benzodiazepines. Cornerstone was a decent facility. The staff seemed caring when you could get their attention which wasn't often. Getting to meet with your case manager was especially difficult during the detox period. Basically If you were not acting up you didn't get attention. Requests to see the Dr. or make a phone call went largely unanswered. The inability to make phone calls became an important point when I was requested, in the Detox facility, to sign the agreement for the cost of extended care. All documents at Cornerstone are signed electronically and you are not given the time to read the contract nor are you allowed to make a call to anyone (family, insurance, financial planner). As mentioned previously that case managers did not have time for you unless you are acting up. This means that they also do not have the time to let you read anything you are asked to sign. This is really important. My case manager told me that the insurance was being taken care of by Cornerstone. I had no way of knowing that Cornerstone would bill my insurance company as if I was in IOP (intensive OUTPATIENT program). I was never an OUTPATIENT while in Cornerstone and they have refused to bill my Insurance as an INPATIENT which I was while I was at their facility. This means that you are required to foot the entire bill for lodging/food. Neither my husband nor I was informed that the insurance was not going to be billed according to my treatment plan. read more

Cornerstone staff and programs are top notch If you are willing to do the work, every staff member there will be there to help you and encourage you in your recovery. They have family nights where family members get support and learn how they can best help their loved ones. They made a miracle happen for me. But you have to do the footwork and continue to be committed long after you leave. I am so grateful to each person I met at the facility from Dr. Stone to my wonderful case managers. I'm reviewing the short-term detox program only. Came for a 5-day alcohol detox following a relapse post-inpatient treatment. Got thrown into a room with 2 strangers stepping over dirty clothing in no lighting, tossed a few meds. Slept, ate some lame Mexican food, then as soon as I was coherent shoved into one of the two filthy residential homes. They expect their detox patients to be on an aggressive, 4-5 meeting per day program with 6-am wake-ups, NO CAFFEEINE, NO SUGAR, and cooking your own crappy frozen meals while you're still shaking and getting anxiety attacks. Want to leave because it's not a fit for you? They hold you hostage and dial up family members with or without your consent to force your hand and coerce compliance. Bail on their demands and get stuck with the bill rather than getting your insurance to cover. The questions and psych evaluations are WAY too personal and ask far too many questions about problems unrelated to the core addiction. Extremely uncomfortable, especially when answering said questions for someone of the opposite gender with no introduction or guarantee of privacy. Absolutely no cooking utensils. Food is rotten, kitchens are filthy, and during my stay several residents got into physical altercations or sexual escapades which involved forcible removal by law enforcement. After much bitching and moaning, was able to get some critically needed access to handle basics like paying bills and handling work affairs -- needless to say I didn't have the chance to handle these details before going into connectivity black-out. Who the hell asks someone on detox to get up at 6 AM when sleep is one of the most critical elements of combatting withdrawal? And how is that person expected to cook for themselves in less than 24 hours? Awful food, terrible staff, dirty accommodations, filthy sheets, invasive and manipulative employees, STAY AWAY. So many far-better detox facilities available where you can do simply that - VEG OUT and DETOX, not get thrown into a quadruple-IOP while you still can't see straight. UPDATE &a RESPONSE - Addressing your reply Tim - food prep was NOT a provided service at the time of my stay. We were expected to cook our own food out of the freezer and threatened with punishments if we didn't clean up to perfection less then 24 hours into detox. The facilities were filthy. Requested a fresh set of sheets and was provided with stained and filthy ones. Meds were careless. read more

Cornerstone was my first experience with treatment after experiencing addictions for 23 years. I entered the program in January 2016 and am still sober today. The staff truly put their heart and souls into helping me find a new way of life. They guided me each step of the way and helped my family learn the best way to support my sobriety as well. The tools I learned in Cornerstone still serve as foundations for my sobriety today and I am truly grateful that I was able to attend this program. I have completed detox and residential care and I'm currently I'm out patient care. I cannot put into words how grateful I am my family found this place for me. The care and treatment I received from the staff was excellent. The groups are educational and appropriately designed to help relapse prevention intertwined with at least 3 AA based meetings a week to introduce you to others experiences and different stages of successful sobriety and the program. The caseworkers and group leaders are well trained and behave very appropriately with the women and men. I was seen by physicians, psychiatrists and had almost daily one on one therapy, meeting all my physical and mental health needs. My husband was invited to and educated at the family night groups and made to feel like family also. Dr Stone and Dr Wherly (Sic) took special interest in me due to a painful rare disorder I inherited and due to their expertise I am finally out of pain after spending my entire life in pain and my specialist agrees with their treatment and will continue to continue their protocol for me. I feel like I'm finally able to live my life productive and happy as I was meant to. I have hope, real hope for once that I can live another day without a mind altering substance ever again unless I choose to go back to previous way of life, a life of pain and suffering mentally without my family, lying daily in my bed wallowing in my misery while life goes on without me. I wish I could give ZERO stars. One of my family member "Janet" went to this place. Every time I spoke to the case manager, her story changed every time. She would tell me that she would find out information for me and she never called me back. The only time she ever called me was for payment. She even yelled at me for speaking to our primary doctor and then turned nice in a heartbeat when I said I would pay for another week. UNBELIEVABLE! Then after "Janet" came home from Cornerstone, guess what was in her bags of medication. Cornerstone gave the exact same meds they were trying to get her off of. HOW IS THIS ETHICAL? Is this some kind of cruel joke? After about a week, I get a call from a different case manager and oh boy, this person was worse. She told me that she was concerned for "Janet" and that "Janet" needed to basically come back. Of course this meant more money. Again, the only phone calls I ever get from Cornerstone is for money. On top of that, this case manager had the audacity to tell me "Why are you still living at home? Normal people grow up and move out." I was speechless! I yelled back at her "I AM the one who is taking care of all household bills/finances and supporting everyone else!!" I feel like I am in some alternate universe and I am the only one with common sense. Every time I speak to someone from Cornerstone, it drives me insane! They speak about going to support groups and whatnot, but is there a support group for those who have been driven to insanity by Cornerstone? Is there a support group for those who have been conned into giving more money to Cornerstone? And, is there a support group for those driven to med/drugs/alcohol because Cornerstone causes so much stress and aggravation? Probably not.... On a side note, I was looking through the Cornerstone website and all I can say is "BS." Caring people? NOPE! Great place to be? I DON'T THINK SO! read more

My desire to post a review as to my son's experience at Cornerstone comes from the very depth of my heart. With the support of Dr. Herring and ALL of the counselors and support group at Cornerstone my son has now been sober for approximately eight months; is working full time and just received "Most valuable new employee" from his company along with a pay increase of approximately eighty percent. He is doing fabulously well as to reentering and contributing to society, his family and friends. He has been working out regularly and has a positive and determined attitude to succeed. Don't believe all the bad reviews. This place saved my life. It's unfortunate that people write terrible reviews because they are unwilling to accept change. Unfortunatly ive been to many treatment centers over 14 years. Cornerstone is absolutely the best place i have ever been to. It has been owned by the stone family for 30 years. They get to the root of emotional issues and help you to better your life. Susie is an absolutely amazing case manager. Tim stone (Co owner) is very involved in helping vlients in the program. We had an issue with waiting for the vans and Tim stone took 5 car loads of residents back to their houses in his personal vehicle. Horrible experience, quoted one price and it change daily (went up)...never anything in writing, felt stupid when I spoke to the staff... a scam operation at most...they tell their patients that it may take 12 inpatient experiences to get better. This places se a huge difference in my life. I am not sure how it got such bad reviews. If you work the program and put the foot work in it really works. I am 73 days clean and feel a big difference and don't think I would have gotten as much out of any other rehab program. My case manager is awesome and really helped me work through a lot of stuff I have been burying the last 14 years I was using. If you have a family member that needs help I would recommend this place above all other places. If you're not willing to put the work in yourself you're not going to get anything out of any rehab or recovery center. I'm an employee at Cornerstone and am sad to see all the negative reviews at the top, and all the good ones in "hidden reviews" section. It is pretty frustrating that people are not able to view positive and inspiring reviews. I'm not going to write a long review, saying how great our program is. It speaks for itself, and works for people that truly give it a chance. One of my best friends came through Cornerstone, and works a great program years later. The staff are caring, professional, and straight forward. I love working at Cornerstone. Our clients are given all the recovery building blocks that they need, and it is always up to them to use those tools. I have seen many of our clients succeed and help others in recovery. Yes... recovery takes work and dedication. There is no such thing as a miracle treatment center that will change the addict, unless he or she follows direction. Our staff work really hard to help the clients meet their goals. Those that make a choice to take direction, are the ones that beat the odds. I love working with Cornerstone team and our clients. I came to Cornerstone of Southern California in mid November, life was almost impossible in my eyes and even more impossible without drugs and alcohol. They detoxed me and cared for me throughout my first few weeks. I attended group sessions and began to learn about myself and got honest with counselors, psychiatrist, and a therapist about how I felt inside and out. They helped keep me sober and gave me tools to learn to use everyday. They let me work one on one with my case manager Dane who helped me grow leaps and bounds and gave me suggestions on things he hoped I'd do to start to grow and get involved in my sobriety. He also kept in contact with my family thru the whole process every week which I appreciated. We had group processes everyday from 8:30am-3:50pm with 4 breaks in between, and at night we attended AA, NA, or an CA 12 step meeting 6 days a week. Some of the case managers who lead the groups and were involved in my stay at cornerstone were Dean, Dianne, Darlene, Bob, Robert, and Tom. We also had a great group leader twice a week named Otis, all of these people truely cared about my well being and wanted to see me do my best and improve my life. I am truely great fun for how this program worked and all the rules and suggestions they gave me, without there help who knows where I'd be today. On my last day I got to meet Simon Stone who helped write a letter for my court case and he took the time to talk to me, help me and reach out to make sure everything for court would go smoothly. They also kept in contact with my public defender and relayed information on how I was doing too. In leaving cornerstone I have gained tools, fellowship, and a new way of life to live with hope. I am truely great full and will be sure to visit on their monthly alumni meetings. I highly recommend Cornerstone if you want to get help, it is a great place, and safe place for recovery. read more

Cornerstone is a scam. I paid for Sober Living for my son. I paid for a month and Cornerstone found a reason to kick him out in the first week. No refund. He was sober so they kicked him out for fraternizing. They cared more about the money than helping him. read more

Cornerstone is a fitting name. It was from my stay there that i was able to build an idea of who i wanted to be and how i would do it. Since then, 3+ years later, i have been actively working towards that ideal completely unencumbered by the pitfalls of drug and alcohol abuse. It has been a staggering success. I have more material and spiritual wealth than i could have ever imagined possible in that period of time. My mind is free and clear. I have integrity and self esteem. My peers respect me and my family does not fear for my mental health or physical safety. I will forever be grateful for the Cornerstone program for showing me that the world was not as i saw it-ruthless, spiteful, and unchanging- but rather hopeful and interesting and full of possibilities. read more

Cornerstone Saved my life, I have 14 months clean and sober today. If you want to get clean and sober and want a new life I recommend Cornerstone. You really have to want it. All the staff are wonderful. They do tell you like it is, and sometimes I didn't like it, however I sucked it up and learned. I want to take a moment to share my experience with Cornerstone Recovery, in particular Dr. Stephanie Herring and the alternative sentencing program. It's no secret that legal issues almost always come hand in hand with substance abuse. Cornerstone has this two headed monster figured out. I was referred to Dr. Herring and Cornerstone by my attorney. I was extremely apprehensive about entering treatment and very concerned about what would happen to me at court. After 10 minutes on the phone with Dr. Herring it felt like a huge weight had been lifted. She took the time to educate me on what Cornerstone could do for my underlying issue of addiction and explained to me what I was really facing with the courts. I made an appointment for intake the same day and got checked in the following day to Cornerstone's Monitored Residential program. Since that day Dr. Herring has made several appearances in court for me. The level of respect the judges and the court has for her and Cornerstone is unbelievable. I'm now going on 120+ days of sobriety and my legal issues that used to keep me awake,have been resolved. I have and will continue to recommend Cornerstone / Alternative Sentencing to anyone in need of help. I cannot express how grateful I am for Cornerstone. At first, I checked into Cornerstone hoping that these individuals would be able to assist me with some trouble I experienced with the law. Not only did the team work to help me with the court system, but more importantly guided me to find who I was again. Everyone from Dr. Herring, Tom, Rich and Ms. Gracie worked to make me feel right at home, and moreover truly helped me to believe in my purpose. They showed nothing but support during the lowest point of my life. I have referred several people to Cornerstone, and I have to say " I am very impressed". One of my good friend's called me in desperate need to help her niece, and Cornerstone immediately contacted her. Within 3 hours of calling, was admitted into the program. The intake department was very helpful with getting insurance authorization and very welcoming when she arrived. My friend's niece was at Cornerstone for 45 days, and she said it changed her life. She had been in and out of treatment before and had never experienced the love, and the feeling of being cared for, that Cornerstone provided. She thanked me profusely for referring her to Cornerstone. Cornerstone knows what they are doing and has over 32 years of experience in addiction treatment, not to mention they are "ETHICAL". This place has great group sessions and a really effective family program. It's true, it's only what one makes of it to really get the most out of it. I appreciated all of the hard work that the case managers did for my relative. I would give it 5 stars except for the fact that information about my relative was given out by one of the employees there which I believe is a HIPAA violation. It is critical that information is confidential so that people feel comfortable seeking treatment. It's their right. Incredible job though to the case managers. read more

I attended cornerstone not to long ago I hated it at first only because I hated the thought of rehab I gave it a try and I loved it I met really great people it changed me for the better. I was court ordered to attend the Outpatient Program for 90 Days and am so thankful for the experience. The staff is so kind and amazing. It has been months since my release and I am still living a sober and healthy life thanks to the guidance of Tom and all the amazing people I met in those 90 days. My biggest take away was learning to respond to situations vs react, Wow, has that changed situations for me. Wow. I'm looking at the reviews here and am amazed at what everyone has said. I went to Cornerstone in August of 2010. I will admit that I didn't always like it. Contrary to the other reviews I felt I was under medicated during the detox process. I would say that is my main complaint. I was at inpatient for 17 days. I then went to extended care for 30 days. After that I went into sober living for 3 months. I learned how to open up about my numerous addictions, found a sponsor, received a fellowship of people I could relate with and have been clean and sober since August 17th of 2010. I am grateful to Cornerstone for showing me how to live a clean and sober life. read more

As parents all I can say is that Cornerstone helped our daughter. No one in program is ever going to say that everything is perfect but they really helped my daughter. I was there a couple years ago it was pretty neat and well organized. We took trips to different cities to learn about other peoples experiences with drugs.
