what made the trip was our guide, Clint. he was friendly, safe and incredibly knowledgeable. we didn't feel rushed at all. although it was hot - the breeze helped! bring water and a small cooler if you can. we saw a tremendous amount of horses, dolphins, sea turtle nests and more. highly recommend.

The 10 in our family, enjoying time in the Outer Banks for 50th (in-laws) and 25th (my wife and me) wedding anniversaries, had a fantastic time with Craig. He was knowledgeable, personable, and brought us to many different places. In all, we saw around half of the entire herd of horses in the area, and were fortunate to meet many of them up close.

What an incredible adventure! This is an experience not to be missed. Our guide did a fabulous job of getting us to where the horses were. We saw 24 of the 99 wild horses in four harems. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the horses individually as well as their habits and how they interacted. I learned a lot about horses. Riding on the beach and in the unpaved areas of OBX was a cool treat on top of seeing the wild horses. There are many excellent wild horse tours to choose from, but trust me, THIS is the one you want to take! Definitely take your camera, the best one you have. Also take a windbreaker of sweater because it gets a little chilly cruising down the beach. Have a blast!

This was a great experience. Our guide lives here so he was knowledgeable, excited to share the experiences, and taught us so much. Please be aware you may not see horses on the beach - it really depends on the horses themselves. Beautiful horses and the local nonprofit makes sure they're safe.

And another one back in a neighborhood in Corolla!

It was exciting to be able to drive right on the beach and see the wild horses! It was an unforgettable experience! Loved it!

Corolla Outback Adventures offers Wild Horse Vehicle Tours along the OBX coast. Overall, my wife and I had a great experience during our first ever wild horse tour. Checking in was a breeze - the gentleman we encountered was warm and friendly. Our tour guide was amazing - she was clearly very passionate about her job and horses, knowledgable; and she made our tour memorable. We saw several wild horses throughout the tour and were able to get a lot of cool pictures/videos. Although we didn't see any horses on the beach right along the ocean, we were able to see them in the dunes and near some beach homes. Our tour guide stopped often to educate us on different things about the area (i.e., baby sea turtles, land development over the years, horses, etc.). If you're looking for a unique opportunity to do while visiting OBX, check out Corolla Outback Adventures - you won't be disappointed!

So happy we went with this tour. Our tour guide Kathy Sue was knowledgeable about the area and the horses. She gave so much great info, had an awesome sense of humor and was an excellent driver. Such a fun day!

Paul was our guide and he was awesome. What was supposed to be a 2-hour trip, he took so much extra time every time we saw horses and stopped. But it took us two and a half hours. His knowledge of the horses and the history of the land really made it enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour.

One of the reasons to come to OBX is to see the hold stallions. We where luck enough to stay on the outback and they would pass very close to our rental each day. You can take a drive and run into most of the herd daily.

Enjoyed this tour immensely! Edna, the tour guide, was pleasant and knowledgeable. We were lucky enough to see 7 horses on our 9am tour. It was a bit chilly and extremely windy in the back of the truck... don't forget to bring a jacket!

Highlights/Lowlights 1) great tour guide! 2) saw horses several times We made reservations online the day before (highly recommended!) for three and had no troubles checking in and getting on the tour truck. Our tour guide, John, was HILARIOUS! He was so entertaining and had great facts about the outer banks. The truck is open on the sides and back so prepare for messy hair. The tour lasts about two hours but flies by! You will see wild horses, birds, and quiet parts of the beach. Definitely worth the $49!

We booked a private sunset tour for our group of 11 with Corolla Outback Adventures. Our tour guide, Brad, was funny and informative - we were in the back of the truck while he drove, so he'd stop periodically to check in with us, give us info on the history of the area and of course, the horses. We had a great time and were able to see horses in both the residential areas and along the beach. It was a great night and we'd definitely go back again for another tour.

We had an amazing time on the horse tour. Our guide was super knowledge and was excited to answer all our questions. We had the opportunity to see about 30 of the 100 or so horses that live in Currituck County. Our guide told us all about the history of the horses (Spanish Mustangs) and stories of the current horse families.

    How bumpy is the ride?

It is considerably bumpy. It is all off-road. There is quite a bit of movement. We discourage anyone with neck or back troubles, etc.

Reservations are necessary as even in November I could not believe how many people were taking this tour. The tour starts at there office approx. 15 minutes away from where horses roam. The hummer vehicles are operated with diesel engines which are loud making conversation a little trying. The driver uses a mick and two speakers located at front of vehicle. People in back rows had a very difficult time hearing driver. Tour begins with a drive on beach to arrive in dunes where horses are most likely found. This company has many vehicles running at same time and drivers communicate with each other when horses are located. Very interesting to see that these animals live amongst private home properties in the sand dune area. The drive can be a little bumpy at times as paths are all natural, no paved roads. After taking this tour I am so glad we did not attempt this on our own. These horses roam a large area and are hidden by dunes, brush and buildings. Besides the fact you need a vehicle to traverse loose sand. If your interested seeing wild horses in a natural environment this tour is worth your time and money. I do say that a better sound system in vehicles would enhance experience.

Our tour guide, Horace was amazing. We saw all kinds of horses and birds and Houses. The dunes were fun. Our driver was in and out of the dunes and the trucks. It was like a race, but fun and relaxing. There's a halfway point where he stops to let the ladies use the restroom which was very accommodating. We really enjoyed this trip. It's a must for everyone to do this. It was on my bucket list. I am a happy camper.

We laughed so much, saw the most beautiful horses, learned about the horses and Corolla in general, and even saw some bald eagles!! If you're looking for a fun way to tour the beach, definitely book a tour! Plus, this group is actually working on protecting the horses!!! Some of the money from these tours go towards preserving land and caring for the horses (but only if absolutely needed, as we learned! For the most part, the horses are left completely alone unless it's life or death). A couple things for parents with young kids: The car seats fit perfectly, no issues at all. And they are able to see everything from their car seat!

Never did I imagine that I'd get to see the horses living/roaming amongst the houses of Corolla Beach. I had no clue a community could exist like this and without going on the tour I never would have believed it. Geoff, our guide, was great and informative. He took us all around to make sure we could see horses. He told us all about how they're cared for and tracked (but not really tracked). It's amazing that there's so much involved to make sure the wild horses are treated well. There's a mutual respect between the horses and people. I fell in love with the community on Corolla beach and will be back to stay and watch the horses roam free. Definitely take a tour- it's so well worth it!

There are 75-100 wild horses on the sand dunes. The open air truck carries about twelve people. We wore seat belts because the trucks rolling in the sand gets very bumpy. We hopped in the modified Ford F-250 with outdoor seating and drive to the beach. Immediately we passed two wild Spanish Mustangs taking a stroll down the beach. Then we must have seen 40 more throughout the tour. We all loved it - it was more than just looking at horses, the drive down the sandy beach in the tour truck was an adventure in itself. Many of the horses were in the yards of the beach houses. The guests and residents here know the horses are the true land owners and the people are the ones permitted to be there :). FYI - it is a two hour tour. Half way through they stop at a park for a bathroom break and a leg stretch. We also brought a cooler with food and drinks.
