It's a chance you take when doing a tour like this but we had an amazing day and saw so many horses. The ride was comfortable and fun. It was a fun off-road adventure and money well spent in my opinion. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. It was my favorite part of our week long vacation.

The tour was awesome! Riding in the Hummer over the dunes and through the 4WD only section of the northern Outer Banks was so cool! We had great weather and saw loads of horses! Tour guide Mike was funny and did a great job of lining us up for good photos but also respecting the distance needed to keep the wild horses wild! Highly recommend, wear layers if it's cool!

The driver/guide was great. I'm sure on its best days, you can see wild horses galloping on the beach but the thing you don't know is that they're probably often found near a bunch of houses as well. There are sooo many houses. And they're just building more. Go check out the lighthouses instead and let the horses be.

Had a group of 12 go out Friday May 8th. We had Tom as a tour guide, he was extremely knowledgeable and fun to have as a guide. He took us to his favorite spots and we saw a ton of horses also which was great. He was very engaging and I loved the history and facts he told us. I would recommend this company a million times again. We had an absolute blast and will for sure do it again if we make it back to OBX.

Mr.mike was absolutely incredible , his teaching ability was outstanding everything was absolutely perfect. He made the whole tour beautiful and fantastic. Definitely will be coming back with more family !!!!

We managed to book a WHAT horse tour on a whim and we are so glad we did! Apparently the wild horse season ended the next day--11/30. Our tour guide Ned (Vehicle: Echo) was very knowledgeable, providing information on Corolla history/sites, local "lore" as well as wild Spanish mustang history. The complementary blankets were a nice touch and came in handy, considering the unseasonably cool temps and super windy weather (dress accordingly!). Driving on the 4x4 is quite the experience and--as Ned advised--there are rules. Spotting horses was a team effort. Drivers are in communication with each other on sightings and passengers are given many opportunities for photos. During our tour, we made around 30 horse sightings (hoof prints came in handy), some consisting of same harems and/or mustangs on the move. Surprisingly, the mustangs did not seem phased by our presence. We managed to see all 3 of the new foals birthed this year. Definitely well worth the money--unless you're staying on the 4x4, I'm not sure you would see horses any other way! Also, please remember to tip your tour guide!

Such an amazing experience! The tour guide/hummer driver was an absolute joy and completely made the experience with his wonderful personality!

Stacey, our driver and guide made sure we saw plenty of wild horses! We also enjoyed being educated about the horses. Her driving was epic!

We had such an amazing tour it was one of those moments where you knew it was worth EVERY penny! We saw close to 35 horses at non peak hours in June. I learned so much about the area and cannot wait to go back!

We booked this a few days before out trip. We took the last tour of the day in hopes that the cooler temps would bring out more horses. We did see many horses in the little villages that line the beach. The hummer vehicle we rode in seemed to be able to go anywhere without trouble. Cheryl, our guide, was great. She cared about the people in her vehicle. She wanted to make sure we all had an opportunity to see the horses. The weather was great, there were many horses to see, we learned about their history and got some great pictures. Some Notes: * we were asked to sit in the far back because our family seemed like they could get back there with the most ease. That back seat is also bumpy... * the website mentioned that the service has acres that they own allowing the people on the tour to get out and take pictures. It was a great tour, but that stop did not happen. The guide did talk about them owning the land, but it wasn't mentioned that they drive on it. * there are a couple bathrooms at the location where you board - it's a two+ hour tour - so, I'd suggest using them :)

Our group of 9 had an awesome experience! Mike was an excellent tour guide, engaging, funny and knowledgeable. We were able to see several groups of horses on our tour. Highly recommend the 5:30 tour, if possible in order to have cooler time of day & seeing the sunset on the way home.

A must if you want to see the wild horses in the Corolla area! We have so many pictures and got to see an array of horses: Family groups with foals and stallions and single bachelors on the hunt for trouble. The guides are terrific at finding them. One piece of advice: Wear those seatbelts and sit near the front if you have back issues! The beach can be rough, and riding in a pickup truck can be bumpy. Try to relax and enjoy the horses and beautiful scenery; you will have a great time!

Ask the Community - Wild Horse Adventure Tours

Can my 86 year old mother who isn't the best walker be able to handle this tour or is it potentially too physical?

My husband has a bad knee and he did the tour. She'll just need help getting into and out of vehicle. No walking on tour. Might want to see if she can have front seat.

We had so much fun on our tour with Rick. Not only did he have so much knowledge about the area and…read morethe horses, he was also just a fun AF tour guide! We laughed so much, saw the most beautiful horses, learned about the horses and Corolla in general, and even saw some bald eagles!! If you're looking for a fun way to tour the beach, definitely book a tour! Plus, this group is actually working on protecting the horses!!! Some of the money from these tours go towards preserving land and caring for the horses (but only if absolutely needed, as we learned! For the most part, the horses are left completely alone unless it's life or death). A couple things for parents with young kids: The car seats fit perfectly, no issues at all. And they are able to see everything from their car seat!

Never did I imagine that I'd get to see the horses living/roaming amongst the houses of Corolla Beach. I had no clue a community could exist like this and without going on the tour I never would have believed it. Geoff, our guide, was great and informative. He took us all around to make sure we could see horses. He told us all about how they're cared for and tracked (but not really tracked). It's amazing that there's so much involved to make sure the wild horses are treated well. There's a mutual respect between the horses and people. I fell in love with the community on Corolla beach and will be back to stay and watch the horses roam free. Definitely take a tour- it's so well worth it!

There are 75-100 wild horses on the sand dunes. The open air truck carries about twelve people. We wore seat belts because the trucks rolling in the sand gets very bumpy. Our driver, Gator, talked to us and answered our questions. I suggest he get a portable microphone so everyone can hear him, and the talk will be more informative. We drove up near the Virginia state line looking for horses. The tour last two hours. We enjoyed it.

We were looking for something only the OBX could offer. A wild horse beach tour seemed like just…read morethe thing. It was great. We hopped in the modified Ford F-250 with outdoor seating and drive to the beach. Immediately we passed two wild Spanish Mustangs taking a stroll down the beach. Then we must have seen 40 more throughout the tour. We all loved it - it was more than just looking at horses, the drive down the sandy beach in the tour truck was an adventure in itself. Many of the horses were in the yards of the beach houses. The guests and residents here know the horses are the true land owners and the people are the ones permitted to be there :). FYI - it is a two hour tour. Half way through they stop at a park for a bathroom break and a leg stretch. We also brought a cooler with food and drinks.
